Hugs is All We Need to Save the World

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has come to our rescue with a solution worthy of a Facebook new like where one can love, laugh, wow, sad, angry and still can just like. My question is why no hug in this great new Facebook features. After all, was it not Mr. Zuckerberg who recently after the Paris bombings, Brussels bombing and Pakistan bombings stated, “This morning we activated Safety Check in Pakistan after a bomb targeted children and their families in a park in Lahore. Over the last two months, we have activated Safety Check several times for acts of terror – including in Turkey and Belgium – so people in the area can let their friends and loved ones know they’re safe. Each of these attacks was different, but all had a common thread: they were carried out with a goal to spread fear and distrust, and turn members of a community against each other. I believe the only sustainable way to fight back against those who seek to divide us is to create a world where understanding and empathy can spread faster than hate, and where every single person in every country feels connected and cared for and loved. That’s the world we can and must build together.”

Further, Mr. Zuckerberg has discovered that all three of these attacks as well as many other terrorist bombings are all designed to spread far and wide “fear and distrust.” Then he has the gall to claim that “understanding and empathy” are the sole means for treating such attacks and not bullets, tanks, aircraft and boots on the ground. He has obviously become too entangled in his creation of Facebook where people can find safe refuge from daily horrors exchanging thoughts and emotions, often through emoticons which stand in the place of actual emotions just as Facebook stands as a substitute for reality. It is this replacement of reality by a caricature on a computerized community where one gains friends through cute kitten videos and virtual roller-coaster rides shared with acquaintances from the four corners of the globe who we know only by the title and profile they present. For all we are aware these people could just as easily be United States soldiers as they could be some African Prince from Zambia who needs help getting their ten million dollars out of some bank in Switzerland. That is the problem with these virtual people with virtual persona and virtual backgrounds. Everybody is as real as their Sims character and just as reliable and trustworthy as few million pixels are capable of being. The problem is this is the world Mark Zuckerberg made as real as the actual physical world thus it is no surprise that his world-view seems just as fitting as a Facebook personae or whatever can be created with a set number of keystrokes. And if you are not happy with the real you one can always simply build a new virtual you where you have everything your little heart desires as long as you have a Yahoo mail or G-mail account and a charge card to complete the deal, that is the reality of our virtual world. This is the new reality which Mark Zuckerberg helped to create which comes complete with proxies et al.

For all we know, Mark Zuckerberg not only made his millions of dollars with this Facebook world but it is his reality as well. He may have sunk a little deeper into the Facebook realms than is healthy but when one has the credentials and monies which Mr. Zuckerberg possesses then one can retreat into their little pixilated world and never need surface and see that which is real. For a perfect example of one person going round the bend and relying heavily on a wall of lawyers along with that veil concealing their lives keeping them from creditors or even reality, one need only read the life history about Howard Hughes. His grasp on reality fluctuated from lucid detailed hold on reality to paranoid schizophrenia. Whatever disease has captured the mind of Mark Zuckerberg we may never become privileged to know as when one is as wealthy and well connected it becomes very traumatic dealing with their situation as one will never know whether they are knocked down and playing possum and simply biding their time to make their escape. It is entirely possible and even probable that in the world in which Mark Zuckerberg pictures himself, a big and wonderful hug actually does solve all problems; but in the real world where Paris gets shot full of holes and Brussels explodes with Jihadi violence, there is no Facebook hug that can solve such a situation. Not even a hug which has 64K of a description would bring Islamic State from the darkness and into the light of enlightened society. Claiming that love, or a BIG Facebook HUG would satisfy much of what the Islamic State demands of the world makes as much sense as reelecting Obama again would make. A hug can never replace running the world and no amount of promises or affection would deter the Islamic State from that goal, period.

There are going to be those out in the world who will demand to know how I could ever claim that a hug would not end the threat of the Islamic State. Allow me to settle such a demand with some well-known and understandable facts. President Obama has already tried the hug approach and that failed and failed miserably. He has also tried flattery with equal results. Even President Obama ended up using bombs assassinating a number of Islamic State’s high commanders. Truth be told, there has been one group which has dealt with the Islamic State and addressed the necessary steps to not only minimize their efforts but to also press that advantage in order to take back mile after mile of formerly ISIS occupied lands of Northern Syria and Iraq and retain them for quite some time. The world owes the Kurdish Militias, the Peshmerga, a huge debt as they accomplished so much with little assistance and even with little assistance from outside their own ranks. The Islamic State has started another push against the Kurds since the beginning of the month and the success of their push has yet to be determined. Should the Kurds need better supplies it would be in the interest of anyone who opposes the Islamic State despite any misgivings they may have with any singular group. The Kurds have been carrying the majority of the fight against the Islamic State sometimes against the odds. It was Kurdish forces which aided and rescued the Yazidis when their plight was critical and many were stranded largely on a single mountain and things looked desperate. It was unfortunate that the Kurds could not have succeeded at rescuing far more Yazidis but even for such a noble effort there was not to be any sizeable assistance from Europe or the United States. It has been just such actions which have pushed the question as to whether or not the Western World, particularly the United States, honestly were leaving the Kurds out to dry and were never going to truly offer the Peshmerga the assistance to allow them to mount a credible front.

We hope that the Western World is not going to simply give the Peshmerga a big hug and wish them well. Rather than a really big hug, the Kurds truly require heavy weapons and air support. At this crucial junction it would be prudent to provide air cover and save the hugs for when the fighting is over and the Islamic State has been ground down and shown to be truly weak. This is what is needed and not hugs or likes on their pictures. There are not many groups which have been consistently and almost exclusively fighting and pushing back the forces of the Islamic State. The Kurds have accomplished much of their success receiving hugs and kudos and little else. For the first years they received likes on Facebook and basically had to do with those hugs to bolster their morale. More bullets and grenades would have been preferred to the hugs on Facebook. Perhaps these were the hugs Mark Zuckerberg was referring though it is doubtful.

Back to Mark Zuckerberg, the man with a plan. His concept that ‘love’ will conquer all, or at least hugs can defeat the Islamic State, ISIS, ISL or Daesh is as preposterous as claiming that President Obama has an integrated plan for the Middle East which will persuade Iran not to develop nuclear weapons, ICBMs and deliver a package to the United States approximately three miles over Kansas City, and no it does not matter over which side of the river as the electrical grid will be toast seconds after the strike. What makes such an attack so horrific is it will hug tens of millions and even hundreds of millions of Americans in a slow death. The electrical grid will die by having its main transformers, the ones which take the high tension wires’ from approximately sixty-six-thousand volts down to two-hundred-twenty volts for delivery to your homes. These transformers are more powerful than the Autobots even including Optimus Prime. These transformers are built only in Germany and Japan and Germany may be an Islamic country all that uninterested if the United States, Canada and parts of Mexico are blacked-out without refrigeration and the vast majority of eighteen wheelers with their sensitive electronics fried and unable to move. Sickness, starvations and marauding gangs will be the rule of the day. Many military units will band together and take over a small fiefdom and rule like overlords until the Islamic forces arrive in number to complete the takeover, and they will not desire more than a mere five or six percent of the population to survive, if that. So, Mark, be ready to lose some weight before you get to hug your Jihadist and when you do let me know how well received a guy on guy hug worked out for you. In the meantime, it would behoove the American voters to find some form of reason and a military veteran or supporter to be President and preferably one with more sense than most of the candidates for President have shown in foreign policy as without a solid, hug free, foreign policy much of the free world will not make it to 2025 and even with a near perfect choice for President this time around does not guarantee American survival.

The Agony and the Ecstasy

Writing a daily post on a news blog where you have been writing articles almost daily is that there are slow news days, no news days, and days such as today where almost all the news is about something I have already written on, and for most, written on extensively. I am sure my regular readers have memorized by now and know every letter and note written on such things as the San Remo Conference, the Iran nuclear disaster of a deal, Sykes Picot, Balfour Declaration, Green Line, Global Warming, United Nations Human Rights Commission, Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Netanyahu or even something so specific as Turkey and the Kurdish Militias so there is no real need to go these today. That is the problem and I really do not want to be bummed writing about the ongoing terror stabbings and car assaults along with rock and boulder throwing and firebombings and it will have to suffice that they are all ongoing and more. So that leaves us in the quandary as to what to write about. And quoting John Cleese, “And now for Something completely different?”

And Now For Something Completely Different John Cleese

We could do hopes and things we hope to do sooner rather than later such as trips to see new things in Jerusalem, and that is what is so really exciting about Jerusalem that even if you lived there you could almost daily find somewhere you had not been or something new about a place you have been to daily such as saying your morning prayers at the Kotel. Of course a trip to Jerusalem would mean I would need to post really early on one day and then depend on my tablet holding a charge for the next day which would hopefully be about the trip. We may end up posting earlier on some days as there is a class I hope grabs my interest sufficiently to make me desire to learn more, one can always be exposed to more and hope the teachers or class interactions to make a lasting impression so one also learns more, and isn’t that the challenge of so many things in life. When we are young and so completely ignorant we learn things often the first time we are introduced to them such as the stove top is hot, a closed bedroom door means do not enter, that is unless there are sounds which definitely need investigation in your young teenage child’s room and then you enter even if it takes kicking the door open, and you have no idea how many times I thank Hashem that I never faced that challenge. There is no blessing greater than a child who even if they hated you’re telling them what to or not to do and despite protesting or yelling that you will not ruin their life still obeyed your council and even admitted that you were right in the end and are now successful and happy even if they still have one last council which will be the most difficult when that time comes, that is their making Aliyah when you tell them it is time. There are so many things in life we can thank Hashem for, those things we thank Hashem when they happen and those things it takes us time to realize why such things were for the best. It really is strange how life with all its challenges and twists and turns result in placing you where you need to be and gives you the tools to meet the coming challenge. Let us pray we always find that strength.

There are those events that we really have no clue and will go to Hashem when our time comes and then we will be instructed exactly how that was necessary and we will look back and understand that our part, though small and beyond meaning to us was so very vital and we will praise Hashem for allowing us to be a part of His designs and we will feel proud of that moment as we were when young and we pleased our parents as after all, is not Hashem the greatest Parent possible? Just hope that we made that sacrifice or committed to that challenge that Hashem assigned us and Hashem was not required to give that privilege to someone else as we fell short. What will amaze us is how even things which we thought were so wrong were so somebody else could take on a challenge due to our little shove on their lives because of our failings, another item that will allow us to see those acts as something so required, kind of how Joseph’s older brothers likely felt, well, besides their being terrified when they finally realized that Joseph was now the second most powerful man in Egypt and could have then slain at his slightest whim, and we read of the wisdom of him to not do so and allow for the formation of the twelve tribes as Hashem had desired. We really do not know what things were really necessary and what were things just for making our lives enriched and satisfying us like having all the vanilla (or flavor of your choosing) ice cream in the freezer and nobody to yell at you telling you that you have had enough ice cream for the day. Such are the little things which mean so much to each if us and we will be amused if not shocked when we have revealed to us what acts we performed regularly that so pleased Hashem.

One would have thought that the President would have considered the possibility that he might lose the game before initiating a game of political hardball with Prime Minister Netanyahu on Netanyahu’s home court. From all the hurtful reactions and threats that he be declared the winner and have his way or else one might also begin to question the sanity and ability to command the largest and most powerful military on the planet. For all intents and purposes, President Obama has truly lost his mind over losing an election in which he was personally present but not an actual candidate. Is it beyond the ability of the childlike man sitting in the most powerful position in the world to accept that the citizens of another nation might decide independent of his desires when electing their nation’s leader in times where that nation possibly faces some of the most daunting challenges to its existence in its ever so fragile history? If such a contingency was not considered as even possible, let alone probable, and thus comes as a total surprise and impossibility to comprehend or accept by President Obama, such that in reaction to this reality he now threatens Israel with annihilation, must be taken as evidence that the President may suffer from debilitating imbalances and is now a threat to not only Israel but the entire world going forward. The reaction to something that had to at some point have been contemplated, that playing hardball politics against a seasoned and proven adversary might not be decided as the President intended, was at best childish and unwarranted from such as the President of the United States. That despite sending the best of the best of the available political operatives, the ones who were to be credited with engineering President Obama’s reelection campaign in 2012, backed by millions of dollars and euros from the United States and European governments and still being unable to defeat Netanyahu had to be an option to the situation even if an unexpected option. That President Obama would take such a defeat so intimately personal is the surprise even beyond the failure of such an overbearing effort, but perhaps it was the overbearing nature of the effort which enabled its downfall. Simply described, me thinks the man doth protest too much.

What is necessary now is for somebody in the White House to fall on their sword but still attempt in doing so to explain to the President that sometimes in life one will eventually, no matter how seemingly impossible, actually come up against an opponent who will prevail even against one’s best of efforts. I realize that this may just be the first time that President Obama had somebody, or around four-million somebodies, go to the polls and refute his wise and sagely advice and instead vote for somebody whom President Obama finds beyond distasteful all the way to an adversarial pain in the derriere. But to then demand that despite the people of Israel in an open and free election choosing this person as their next Prime Minister that this person must now act as if the other side won and is dictating policies is beyond arrogant and just a bit pedantic, unwarranted and beneath the office which Obama holds. That President Obama apparently intends to punish Israel and use the full force and power of his office to do so is as frightening as it is unwarranted. The comments that the United States, meaning President Obama without consulting either the peoples or the Congress of the nation he presumably leads, is reassessing relations with Israel and intends to quite possibly force a solution upon Israel against the desires and will of the Israeli government and to do so unilaterally and by any and all means at the disposal of the President of the United States and his administration using international bodies and alliances which will knowingly place Israel and her population in dire peril of loss of life and nationhood is simply unacceptable use of the power of the President. Does anybody honestly place forcing Israel to completely surrender all points and be forced to not only surrender all points to an adversary whose stated intentions is the destruction of Israel and the murder of its predominant population and to do so unilaterally and without receiving any assurances or even any hint that such surrender of all points of negotiation produce an end to the violence against Israel from these Arab entities is more a declaration of war than a diplomatic seeking of a resolution. Does President Obama honestly intend to use force of arms to insist that Israel now comply with his standing threat to pull back unilaterally to the pre June 1967 war lines, also called the Green Line, without any guarantees or concessions from the Arab side by Mahmoud Abbas and then begin to negotiate the remaining issues such as dividing Jerusalem, final borders and other issues. This was what was presented to Netanyahu as a potential solution being considered by the White House. The unanswered question of what remains to be negotiated once Israel has ceded every inch of lands which are contested beyond Israel pulling up her roots and moving to Madagascar or wherever as the only remaining issue at such a point is how many Arab refugees will be shoved down Israel’s throat destroying any and every last vestige of the Jewish nature of Israel and one more time sending the Jewish people out into the Diaspora begging the permission of others to survive in a world which is closer to the next Holocaust than it is to accepting a Jewish state despite the actual, and hopefully not temporary, state for the Jewish people.

What is beyond belief is that President Obama honestly expects Prime Minister elect, he will not actually be the Prime Minister until he has been tasked with and successfully forming a coalition of minimally sixty-one Minister of the Knesset, to commit national suicide just so President Obama can claim another Nobel Peace Prize while claiming to have untied the Gordian Knot which has proven to be the Arab-Israeli peace. The problem with this solution is it resembles exactly the method used in legends by Alexander the Great when he cleaved the Gordian Knot in two claiming to have untied it though use of force was not considered a proper method and thus Alexander would eventually fail in his efforts to conquer all lands the knot represented. The use of force or threat of force will not be any more successful in untying the Gordian Knot of the modern world any more than Alexander’s skillful use of his strong sword succeeded in ancient times and will only make matters closer to all-out war. Israel will not go quietly into the gentleness that good night, but into her old age will she burn and rave at close of day and rage, rage against the dying of the light. Israel has waited her sons’ and daughters’ return to once again be blessed by this land and this land will remain our succor into eternity for as long as the sun does rise and the winds gently caress these lands will it remain our home to even our last dying effort will we hold to our rightful inheritance. The land is ours by right of promise from Heaven echoed rightfully by men of courage whose efforts and love of Zion engaged and brought forth the Balfour Declaration which was then universalized and made the law of the lands under the auspices of the League of Nations who adopted the Balfour Declaration word for precious word written into the San Remo Conference and ratified unanimously by the League of Nations and adopted by the United States by the Anglo-American Convention on Palestine in 1925 and confirmed in 1945 by Article 80 of the United Nations and has never been abrogated thus still is applicable under International Law. President Obama should be informed exactly what he is intending by his actions, that should he persist then his actions will be interpreted as a declaration of hostility and an attempt to abrogate standing International Law and also to have taken actions against a standing treaty which as such is the law of the land for the United States. The areas into which President Obama, in his obsessed mind, plans on treading is thin ice due to the roiling boil of the waters beneath. Should his plan include use of the United Nations Security Council, let him be warned that the United Nations is also bounded by the San Remo Conference and under its own Charter in Article 80 these promises were reaffirmed and ratified once again entering the conclusion of San Remo into the present framework of International Law. With such justification and the righteousness of our claims to this our lands will Israel stand against any efforts you may intend to sanction in your name. Remember that without Congressional actions the President of the United States may not declare war or deploy troops and doing so against treaties entered into by the United States and ratified by Congress that the President might once again find himself standing lonely on the battlefield of ideas without a clue. No, President Obama, you may not take your vengeance out on a nation just because they did not heed your presumably sagely advice and instead elected a leader who will serve Israel and Israeli interests the world be damned if that is what is required. And if this leader fails in that task, then we will elect a new leader more attuned to the needs of the day and sworn to protect that which is rightfully ours by treaty and, more importantly, by the will of Heaven. Would you like to see our deed? Well, it can be found in Genesis where Abraham was promised all the lands where it states in “Genesis 17:8 And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.” Is that easy enough because if not there is more even to include the treaties of man which promise the same and more, but you already are knowledgeable of such things being the most able man on earth. After all, according to Patrick Gaspard, your first White House political director, in an interview with The New Yorker in November 2008, he quoted you having stated, “I think that I’m a better speechwriter than my speechwriters. I know more about policies on any particular issue than my policy directors. And I’ll tell you right now that I’m gonna think I’m a better political director than my political director.” With minimal extrapolation we can guess you exceed at all things mortal and border on the realm of the immortal, still, Israel will not be pushed. We are a stiff-necked people and even more-so when our own beloved Zion is up for presumptive discussions. Do not doubt that for a moment, simply do not transgress there and think real hard as to whether such threats and actions will be worth the price you will pay when all is said and done. Just go repair Syria, ISIS, Libya, Yemen and the other problems which cry so much louder for your attentions, but those would require heavy lifting and you see Israel as an easy target, the low hanging fruit but you are mistaken, very mistaken. One would have thought you might have taken the hint from the election, leave well enough as is and go tackle some pressing problem and leave us to deal with our situations. Bye-bye.
