There is a high expectation that by the end of the week, if not today, the Jordanian delegation to the United Nations will use their seat on the Security Council to place into consideration the petition for a Chapter Seven Resolution establishing a Palestinian Arab state in Gaza, Judea and Samaria using the 1949 Armistice lines, often referred to as the pre-1967 war borders despite the Arab League refusal to recognize them as a border for the state of Israel, with East Jerusalem as its Capital City. According to Voice of Israel public radio, any unilateral declaration of independence is a violation of the Oslo Accords and that if it receives international support, this would render all diplomatic agreements as void. This week has been witness to another example of extreme folly by the United States with President Obama claiming not to have decided whether or not to use the United States veto to kill the Jordanian petition and Secretary of State Kerry making the rounds talking to numerous European leaders from numerous nations as well as the European Union and also both the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. The reasoning given by the leadership of the United States was that President Obama wished to get a feeling for how the European leadership was deciding to respond to the Jordanian request. There is also rumored that should the Jordanian resolution fail that the French are also drafting a resolution in a similar vein though particulars are quite sparse. There have been reports that part of Secretary Kerry’s actions this week was to attempt to get other Arab and Muslim leaders including from Saudi Arabia, Egypt and possibly Morocco or even others to make an effort to have Mahmoud Abbas, the leader of the PLO which is the Arab group representing the Palestinian Arabs presenting the request using Jordan, as they do not have membership permitting their direct ability to petition the Security Council, to cancel the request for Jordan to present the petition.

One has to wonder what the actual reasoning is behind President Obama’s actions, particularly deploying his Secretary of State to go basically begging Arab leaders to intervene and plead his case for Mahmoud Abbas to withdraw his demands being relayed through the Jordanian United Nations Ambassador and then seeking the positions and reasoning of numerous European and European Union leaders as well as meeting with the Israeli Prime Minister, whose position is unlikely to surprise anybody, and the Russian Foreign Minister getting their ideas and demands about the coming petitioning for United Nations action. All of this could have been avoided if only President Obama was willing to take a stand instead of attempting to gage if the Jordanian proposal was going to even pass a Security Council consideration. This is similar to President Obama’s actions once before when it appeared that Mahmoud Abbas was going to apply for the Security Council to force a solution on Israel by recognizing a state for Abbas and the Arab population he presumably represents and upon finding that that proposition would not pass that it allowed President Obama to abstain and not use the United States veto power thus not offending Mahmoud Abbas. All President Obama needed to do to prevent this entire fiasco from playing out was for him to pick up that phone he was so proud of when threatening to act unilaterally on immigration and other areas of contention in the Congress and call Mahmoud Abbas and simply tell him that the United States is going to veto any prospective placed before the Security Council so he was simply wasting his time and that of everybody else in pursuing a vote on his resolution. That simple act would have brought this wild insanity to an abrupt halt as Mahmoud Abbas probably does not desire a confrontation with the United States, one of the largest donors to the Palestinian Authority and to UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency). But instead President Obama is attempting to be allowed to simply vote as he had in the majority of legislative actions when he was a state Senator and voted ‘present’ instead of ever taking an actual stand.

One might wonder what might be the difference between the petition about to be presented by Jordan and the petition which the French are currently drafting. The obvious difference is the Jordanian petition is a known entity as its contents were made available earlier this week while the French petition is still a work in progress thus any estimations into its contents are simply guesses, even if they are reasoned out, that would only make them reasoned guesses. The Jordanian petition sets a two year timeline whereby Israel must pull all of the IDF (Israeli Defense Force) troops, Shin Bet and other intelligence units, police and all Jewish residents who have built homes and lives beyond the Green Line, the 1949 Armistice Lines. This petition would make November 2016 the expressed deadline that if made as a Chapter Seven mandatory Resolution from the Security Council would obligate the nations of the world and especially the five permanent nations of the Security Council, United States, Russia, Britain, France and China, to provide military forces to apply the stipulation of the Resolution by force. This would place the United States, amongst the other nations, up front and center in providing troops to enter Judea and Samaria and even potentially Gaza and in the name of protecting the new Arab state with Mahmoud Abbas as their President for Life holding power enforced by the armies of the world. These forces would be charged with assuring that Israel refrain from any actions which could be determined as potentially harmful to the Arab state forced into fruition by the collective armies of the world who would occupy these new lands and enforce their will upon Israel.

Such a situation would permit the Arabs in Judea and Samaria to launch rockets down onto Tel Aviv and the rest of central Israel onto the most heavily built areas in Israel with complete impunity as Israel would be powerless to take any preventive measures. The Israelis would be blocked from entering Judea and Samaria even to arrest a known rocket scientist who was developing and assisting in building, aiming and firing these rockets. The same would apply to Gaza which is inhabited and basically ruled by Hamas and Islamic Jihad, both organizations very similar to ISIS, especially Hamas whose Charter instructs them to strike down the disbeliever wherever you should see them and to lay in ambush and terrorize them, and to beat that, their Hamas Charter includes language calling for the extermination worldwide of all Jews and afterwards setting up the caliphate over the world using the United States arsenal of weapons including nuclear weaponry. The existence of American troops as well as European troops, Russian troops, Chinese troops standing to enforce the borders of Judea and Samaria and guarding the Western Wall, Kever Yosef, Kever Rebecca and the Cave of Machpelah (Cave of the Patriarchs) and most notably the Temple Mount itself, places all within Arab territory thus placing them beyond the reach of every last Jew in the world and reserving all of them to the not so tender mercies of the Islam.

Of course, like any of this would really matter once the world has lined up opposing Israel and backing the terrorists and granting these terrorists a launching platform defended by the armies of the world from which to launch their rockets with impunity. Then we need to ask how these troops stationed within these terror-filled areas will react when those terrorists begin to launch attacks on Israeli civilians. Should they actually attempt to carry out the entirety of their mission and with honest efforts to shut down such attacks over the border targeting Israel acting as real peacekeepers? I have a difficult time even visualizing such a construct but I can easily define the acts should such an attempt at interfering with the terrorists be tried. The result would be roadside bombs, suicide bombers and other manners of traps, ambushes and attacks placing the soldiers who took the fateful steps of attempting to prevent Arab assaults on Israel as prime targets for the terrorists until they made the appropriate mea-culpa and stood down from any further attempts at preventing the barrages on Israel. Eventually, Israel would absolutely have no alternative but to respond to the opposition forces protecting the terrorists and enter the territories and arrest those they knew were responsible for launching rockets into Israel. Would these foreign troops then stand to prevent the IDF entering Arab lands to destroy the production factories and terror related structures, reducing their threats posed to Israelis? Would the forces placed within the Arab state by the United Nations then become part and parcel of the Arab army facing off against the Israeli forces? Just such a scenario would become reality and this is something which nations would need to address before sending troops into such a potentially charged situation. These troops would require special mission statement clearly stating what actions they could expect to have their home country sanction and what would be the limits that they could act upon and interfere.

American Price for Palestinian Peace Participation

Most of the time we are told of the concessions, which would be better defined as bribes, the Israelis are forced to make to the Palestinians in order to entice them to come to peace negotiations despite the fact that both sides know they will simply walk away at some point demanding outrageous concessions to return and then blame Israel for not meeting those demands to allow the farce to continue. Well, this time let’s take a look at the price being paid by the United States to bribe the Palestinians to the peace talks. We are going to have to look beyond the guarantees that Secretary of State Kerry gave to Chairman Abbas that the Israelis would be steered and coerced into setting a border that was based along the pre-June 1967 Armistice Lines which divided the Israelis from the Jordanian held lands. Oh, just in case you may have forgotten due to the way it is described that the Israelis stole land from the Palestinians in 1967 which has been the aim of the PLO and other renditions of Palestinian organizations, there was no Palestinian State before 1967. Not ever has there been such an entity. The State that Mahmoud Abbas and his confederates, and Yasser Arafat before him, keep claiming has direct ownership from antiquity onto perpetuity has never existed ever. Even their preposterous claims reveals the depth of their deceit as they have claimed to be descended from the Philistines at one point, the Canaanites at another, or they are descendants of Abraham’s son Ishmael, and once Abbas claimed that the Palestinians had resided in the lands between the Jordan river and the Mediterranean Sea for the past nine-thousand years. Either they are confused about their origins or, as is said, if you believe in nothing you will believe in anything. So, on to the concessions beyond pretending that Abbas and the Palestinians have even a shred of honest claims to the lands that are any more valid than the Jewish claim and that they truly resided here in any numbers before the Jews began to return and build an economy, farm the land, drain the swamps, plow the fields, and tame the land making it capable of supporting any sizeable population. For a description of the state of the lands before the Jewish Zionist’s first returnees, one need simply pick up a copy of Mark Twain’s “The Innocents Abroad” and read his descriptions of the Holy Lands as his travels took place in the late 1860s which is about the start of the return of Jews to the lands joining the remnant population of Jews who had remained in the lands during the entirety of the Diaspora even making up the largest population within Jerusalem through much of that time.

Meanwhile, to the concessions made by the United States in order to entice the Palestinians to bother to actually negotiate instead of simply demanding the world give them. Despite the truth that the Palestinians had been informed before the negotiations began when they chose to demand terrorists be released from prison over imposing yet another building freeze that the Israelis were going to announce new construction since there was not to be any constraints against doing so, the Palestinians still cried havoc and refused to return to the negotiations unless the Israelis now imposed a building freeze while also still releasing the terrorists. I do not doubt that the initial attempt was made to force the building freeze upon the Israelis, though neither side is stating that such was tried, and that the Israelis refused to both release terrorist prisoners and freeze building just to continue peace negotiations which the Palestinians will walk away from before they come to fruition. This left the United States likely facing a breakdown in these much touted great achievement of bringing the two sides together and the promise that this time things would be different as President Obama and Secretary of State Kerry had a new and promising approach that was guaranteed to produce results, after all, they were not beholden to the Israelis like everybody else had been before them, yes, even President William Jefferson Clinton. So, facing this crisis we had the following hit the newswires today, “The United States’ consul general in Jerusalem, Michael Ratney, signed an agreement Sunday with PA caretaker prime minister Rami Hamdallah, according to which the U.S. will pay the PA $148 million.” With such a precedent one can only wonder what will be the final costs to the world to continue the peace process through to the end of the nine-months of talks promised by the Obama Administration’s press reports.

But that turns out not to be the only price paid by the United States. The State Department is more than a little bit put out by the Israelis as it turns out the Israelis refused to heed the request from the State Department not to release a particular terrorist out of the one-hundred-four prisoners demanded by the Palestinians. Of course had Israel refused to release even a single prisoner from the Palestinian list the peace talks would have been placed in jeopardy. So, as to the plans that were impressed upon the Israelis by Secretary of State John Kerry, they released the first group of twenty-six terrorists of which one was an individual the State Department has warned Israel against releasing. You see this particular terrorist when he killed an Israeli he chose poorly and murdered an Israeli who had dual citizenship or simply had been an American before making Aliyah and returning to Israel. Not only had he been an American before taking up residence in Israel, he was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. The name of the murdered Israeli and former United States Marine was Frederick Rosenfeld and the terrorist who murdered him was Al-Haaj Othman Amar Mustafa. Mustafa and two other attackers ambushed Rosenfeld. After pretending to befriend him as they walked near his home in the town of Ariel, in Samaria in 1989, the three terrorists stabbed Rosenfeld, attacking him from behind, and left him to die.

A State Department spokesperson quoted by The Daily Beast “The State Department conveyed the administration’s concerns regarding the release of this prisoner to the government of Israel, while recognizing the victim was a dual national of Israel and the United States.” The spokesperson continued to point out that the Israeli side “acknowledged our views, but it was ultimately their decision to determine which prisoners to release. This is a very difficult situation for all involved, and further highlights the importance of making these negotiations successful.” How so deeply touching that the United States would actually take umbrage at the murder of an Israeli, though he had to also have been an American who served in the Marine Corps, but it was still touching. It does pose the problem of exactly how does the official American position feel about the hundreds upon hundreds of other Israelis who were murdered whose terrorist perpetrators of these viscous and horrid acts are also being released. Do not get us wrong, we abhor that any of these monsters are being let loose to murder and destroy more lives in the future but this was not Israel’s idea, it was agreed upon between the United States and the Palestinian leadership with the United States ably represented by the State Department. Perhaps had the State Department checked the list before presenting to the Israelis with the Palestinian demands they could have asked the Palestinians to allow this one terrorist to remain in prison. Somehow I do not think the Palestinians would have obliged and quite possibly gotten some strange sort of pleasure knowing they were also punishing the Americans with this one prisoner being released. But I fully expect it to be brought up repeatedly as a point of contention which displays how callous the Israelis are to American sensibilities and not laid at the feet of the Palestinians who originally aided this terrorist attack and now demanded the release of its mastermind. The United States has our sympathy equal with the feelings we have as we commiserate with those Israelis whose loved ones were slaughtered by these monsters now being released to continue their trade of horrors. The $148 million, not so much feeling there as treasure is worthless compared to the cost of a single life which may be the eventual price of allowing these terrorists to go free and murder again, and if it will be but one life and not dozens, it would still be one life too many.

European Union Curses Israel as It Approves Hezballah

The European Union took a number of interesting stances and steps this past week concerning interests and recognitions for entities, states and organizations in the Middle East. Once again the European Union voted on whether or not to recognize Hezballah for being a terrorist group thus joining with Israel, the United States, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Oman and other nations. Predictably the European Union was unable to fully agree and continues to refuse to call Hezballah out for what they are. The European Union also voted this week on how to address Israel and those Jews who live or work in what the Europeans have recognized as the lands set aside solely for the formation of a Palestinian State. Their decision was that Israel has no rights or claims whatsoever to any lands beyond the 1949 Armistice Lines and that any product manufactured by an Israeli company in these contested areas must be labeled as being made by settlement industries and thus be considered unlawful produced goods. Once again the Europeans have found some manner to show approval for Hezballah while finding ways to disassociate from Israel.

In once again rejecting a motion to recognize Hezballah for what they are, one of the world’s leading terrorist groups with a record of murderous attacks including two massive bombings of Jewish buildings including the AMIA (Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina) headquarters and the Israeli Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina as well as the attack on a tour bus in the airport of Burgas, Bulgaria. The reason given by those member states of the European Union refusing to call terrorists as terrorists was that Hezballah is heavily represented in the democratically elected government of Lebanon. Using an election where a terrorist group threatened voters, committed fraudulent practices, assassinated opposition candidates and literally bullied and stole an election as becoming the rightful government of a nation, then I guess the European Union should reassess their positions on North Korea, Iran and other nations whose elections are little more than a sham where the results could be made available days, if not weeks or months, before the actual voting takes place. The truth behind the European Union cowardice is they are aware exactly what Hezballah consists of and understands that they are simply placating the alligator in the hope it eats them last. Perhaps somebody should tell them the importance to the mindset of many throughout the Middle East that chooses the weakest to attack first, kind of taking the low hanging fruit from the tree first, and that all the European Union is doing by not condemning Hezballah is weakness and asking for them to kick Europe first.

The European Union deciding to boycott as much as possible any Israeli products coming from lands beyond the Green Line which demarks the 1949 Armistice Line is not the simple choice they have made it out to be. They do not care that they are hurting the very Palestinians they seek to support as many of them are employed by these very companies and factories which the European Union has now blacklisted. They ignore that those very Palestinians make anywhere from two to five times the salaries than their neighbors who work for either Palestinian companies or the Palestinian Authority. The Palestinians hired by these Jewish companies in places like Ariel and Beit-El even make more than do the security and terrorist prisoners who receive special premium monetary compensation directly from the Palestinian Authority who provide these prisoners with salaries higher than all but the top echelon leadership of the Palestinian authority. It is further proof that the second highest paying positions a Palestinian can pursue is to be a terrorist attempting to murder Jews while those working in the Jewish industries and other businesses still earn higher salaries. The European Union has decided to designate the Green Line as the recognized and official boundary between Israel and Palestine despite their not having yet recognized the actual existence of Palestine.

What is interesting about their view of Israeli borders contradicts treaties, conventions, and declarations which were signed by most of the European governments which make up the European Union as well as directives from the United Nations. But duplicity is in the running for the highest and most preeminent of practices defining the European Union and the majority of the member states while honoring traditions and previous promises we find the European Union taking far more flexibility as we need to understand their nuanced views that things are fluid, changeable, you know, finding expedience is far preferable than taking principled stances. Europe has long past its being an eminent and consequential force on the world’s stage and now resembles the remnants of the Ottoman Empire after 1492 and the Reconquista in Spain until its demise in World War I which lingered on well past its demise as the powerful force of empire simply because nothing had come along and finished off the injured beast that once set terror in the hearts of those who would challenge them. Will Europe ever reassert itself and take back some of the shine of her glorious history? Perhaps, but first they will need to reverse themselves from the disease of decrepitude whose most debilitating symptom is declining societal birth rate. Until Europe can reproduce at levels to, at the very least, replacement rates, they will suffer from loss of identity with their past as they import an alien culture which will eventually supplant their former culture. Once the new culture gains sufficient percentages that their active culture supersedes the old culture, turning back becomes impossible. Decisions like the two taken this week by the European Union are signs that they have already begun to adopt a new culture and are turning their backs on their former culture. If there is still a spark of hope for a European recovery, it will be found in the pews of the great Cathedrals of Europe. Unfortunately, those pews are empty and slowly, one by one currently, those very same Cathedrals are being sold and converted to Mosques, the new culture supplanting the old in as grand a spectacle as possible.
