Hamas Abduction Balloon Must be Popped

From the beginning of this most recent Hamas systematic escalation of violence against Israel generally and her Jewish population in particular, one of the main objectives shared by all the Hamas terrorist fighters was the abduction of an Israeli, soldier or civilian was not among their concerns. This may have been what foiled with the abduction of the three youths in Judea and Samaria when after one of the kidnap victims succeeded in contacting Police led the Hamas kidnappers to believe they were likely to rapidly be facing capture so they immediately murdered the three youths and disposed of their bodies as rapidly as possible in a shallow grave. This was followed up by the claim earlier this week by Hamas that they had abducted an IDF soldier. This caused joyous celebrations in both Gaza and Judea and Samaria where there were crowds dancing and sharing sweets and cake. Initially Israel denied that any of their soldiers were not accounted for but later this fell into doubt as it appeared that one of the seven soldiers who were inside an APC (armored personnel carrier) which was destroyed and had been further destroyed by the ensuing fire, they found that potentially some body parts and his id tags were missing from within the destroyed vehicle. This creates a potential situation which has numerous similar cases from the past where terrorists such a Hezballah or Hamas have captured a live IDF soldier or taken an IDF soldier’s remains and held either in order to exchange either the live soldier, as Hamas did with Gilad Shailt, or the deceased soldier’s corpse, as Syria has done, for the release of terrorists from Israeli prisons. This must be the time where Israel puts this cynical and monstrous abduction temptation to rest permanently by refusing to permit such ransom from paying benefits ever again. Where this may become difficult is with United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and United States Secretary of State Kerry and their teams all pressing Israel to agree to any sets of demands from Hamas just so long as they can declare that peace in our time has been attained and go home until the next war, and unless something radically different than all previous insanities is attempted this time, there will be a next war and another after that on infinitum.

There is one change which can alter the entire atmosphere and it is up to the Israeli leadership to initiate the necessary changes. The Israelis must inform all parties who are attempting to mediate an agreement that Israel will not entertain any peace proposals as long as any of their soldiers, civilians or even the mortal remains of a soldier or civilian is potentially being held as a hostage in order to force Israeli compliance and meeting of demands to release terrorists or any other demand which might be pressed for their return. After presenting the Israel position on this subject will come the difficult part, sticking to their guns. Once they have informed both Secretary Kerry and Secretary General Ki-Moon of their position and opinion that they refuse to cease their assault or even begin to negotiate until they have whomever Hamas may be holding returned, they must then literally be willing to hold fast to that position and when these diplomatic opportunists return demanding Israeli negotiate, they must politely refuse and restate their demand that their people be returned regardless of their condition. When the point is eventually made that prisoners of war are usually negotiated for to gain their release, Israel must reply that this war is not a war between nations but an act of enforcement against an alliance of terrorist organizations which Hamas and Islamic Jihad are identified as such by both the United States and the United Nations therefore the laws of prisoners of war do not apply and it is actually a hostage situation and Israel will not be negotiating with terrorists who are holding Israeli hostages. They must make the point that the Israeli operations in Gaza will continue and will, if necessary, overturn every last brick and tear away every board until they locate their missing personnel or their remains and that if Hamas has any desire for an end to hostilities, they can start by returning the abducted Israeli personnel. Then, until Hamas complies Israel needs to continue their Gaza operations and continue to seek their personnel and take whatever measures militarily are required in order to gain their release and return without exception or mercy.

The Israeli people need to reinforce this position by making it obvious through polling, demonstrations, petition drives and every other possible means that not only are they in complete support of no negotiations and no peace until all Israelis are returned to Israel and that if the leaders of this government are unable to hold such a tight line and position then the people will do whatever it takes to vote in leaders who have the willpower and intestinal fortitude to stand up for every Israeli as any one of the people of Israel could be the next terrorist bargaining chip. Only by making the abduction of both civilians and soldiers and even the stealing of the remains of a fallen soldier or Israeli civilian will not serve to the advantage and will result in bringing ruin down on the terrorist group and the population which supports them and such force will only increase over time. We have tried the other approach of negotiating for the return of our people or their remains and such has reached the point where the costs can no longer be tolerated. For that reason and for the future safety of every Israeli the practice of abduction and ransom must end and end immediately with whatever Hamas believes they are holding if such proves even that they have stolen parts of one of our brave IDF soldiers who sacrificed all in our protection. For those who have given so much we must demand their loss is respected by our leaders and such respect is forced upon our enemies such that they never again even think of stealing a single cell from one of our fallen heroes. For the future and for the dignity of fallen soldiers in this war and in all future conflicts we must stand firm and take this to whatever extreme proves necessary. We already know that our enemies do not believe in the same virtues as do we and that they hold opposing ideas of what is valuable as they value death which they prove by placing their innocents before their fighters while we value life which is why our soldiers stand between the people and our enemies. As was stated by Prime Minister Netanyahu, “We are using missile defense to protect our civilians, and they’re using their civilians to protect their missiles.” The differences are as stark as they have been in any war in the history of mankind. This is the latest struggle between civilization and the barbarians and the barbarians of Hamas cannot be permitted to use any act to gain advantage no matter how depraved or obscene.

Hamas must be destroyed as must their friends in Islamic Jihad and the plethora of terrorist groups throughout Gaza and eventually the same will be necessitated for Judea, Samaria and East Jerusalem and further with those who are their supporters and sympathizers wherever they are to be found. And the accusations that Israel is using disproportionate force, we hope so as only a fool restricts the force they will use to equal the force used by their antagonist, especially when it was their antagonist which started the conflict. The world needs to adjust their moral consciences when they can ignore the carnage in Syria, the destructive barbarity which has brought back the use of crucifixion in Iraq, the war torn strife paralyzing Libya and the rest of the conflagrations around the world but become apoplectic the second Israel protects her people from the indiscriminate launching of rockets into her civilian population covering over three-fourths of the nation. The Malaysian airliner shot from the skies over eastern Ukraine by Russian separatists murdered more innocent civilians than Israel has civilians in Gaza during the entirety thus far of the conflict. What the news reports are refusing to tell the people of the world is that the fatalities in Gaza have consisted of close to 80% Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists but the news simply reports the total number of dead and implies that they are all civilians. I ask you honestly, how is it possible that the only dead in Gaza could all be civilians when the news has shown Israeli strikes which targeted only Hamas or other terrorist armed combatants? It simply does not hold up to inspection or reason, but many are fooled into thinking the number of dead in Gaza do not mean that any terrorists have been killed. Wake up and think for yourselves or the world really will deserve whatever it gets, just do not expect those who are awake, thinking and actually seeking truth to stand idly by and go over the cliff with the unthinking droves of sleepwalking humans who simply lap up whatever pabulum they are fed by the media.

Before getting into some of the technical information and adding some credible commentary and statistics on the situation here in the Hamas-Israel ongoing confrontation, a little personal note. There have been Code Red sirens warning of potential rocket strikes in Nahariya and Ma’alot which are normally only concerned with rockets fired by Hezballah out of Lebanon but apparently are at the extreme end of range for some of the Fajr 5 and the M75 rockets used by Hamas in Gaza. Thus far there has not been any strike within earshot of our place in Nahariya, Bruch Hashem and we pray that things remain that way. We have seen the effects of having a Code Red siren on some of our fellow citizens. Tapping an elderly lady on the shoulder lightly in order to allow her with her three items to go in front of us at the checkout drew a different response than one would normally expect. The poor lady nearly jumped out of her skin and reacted breathlessly stating firmly and emphatically, “Don’t touch me, I thought it was a rocket.” After her breathing, and I suspect heart rate, came back to normal we had a pleasant conversation and all ended well. I am blessed that my wife does not appear to be anywhere near as nervous or panicked; actually she has been very calm. I am quite proud of her for her fortitude as I realize that living under the gun, so to speak, can rattle even some of the most resolute and strong willed of us. Another point of interest was we had to go out within fifteen minutes of the Code Red alarm, they suggest you remain in a safe place for at least ten minutes, and we expected to have the sidewalks and roads to ourselves, no such luck. The roads, sidewalks and especially the beach by the Mediterranean were less crowded that usual, they were anything but devoid of people. The Israelis are mostly very calm and resolute in seeing that these hardships, even though they do require certain precautions and interruptions to our daily lives, will not steal from us the feelings of normalcy and safety in our homes and cities and nation. That is something we refuse to allow.

For everybody’s information, there were three weeks of steadily increasing rocket fire into Israel which had reached a crescendo of almost one hundred in a single day before Israel responded with a forty-eight hour warning for the assaults by rockets to stop. That included rockets shot at Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and central Israel where the majority of the population, infrastructure, manufacturing and commerce all reside. Even then, it was almost thirty-six hours past the deadline before Israel launched a response. Where you are hearing all these national leaders, international representatives and leaders of NGOs, Human Rights Groups and various others all condemning the Hamas rockets fire and the use of disproportionate force, that is all well and good but where were these very same sources of such equanimous condemnations when only Hamas was firing tens of rockets and approaching a hundred rockets a day for three weeks before Israel made any response? Were they sleeping like Rip Van Winkle or Sleeping Beauty and only arose from their slumbers right after Israel finally responded to protect her citizenry? Yes, there were a few who condemned the Hamas assaults before any Israeli response, but most of those people are still demanding that Hamas stop the rockets knowing full-well that once the rockets stop raining down on Israeli civilians, the Israel attacks will also cease. The same cannot be said for Hamas stopping their rocket barrages should Israeli forces stand down.

There are a number of contrasts which need to be examined and brought into the light so the world can see reality, not that many of those who only see a problem if Israel is defending themselves, such as United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay who released a statement claiming that the Israel defensive actions were criminal as they struck the homes of Hamas leadership where it is known to most everybody, but apparently Ms. Pillay did not receive the memo, that there are stores of rockets, weapons, ammunition, explosives and other tactical information and resources which under international law makes those homes legal military targets which can be struck and destroyed. Demolishing those homes does not constitute war crimes or any other offense other than to Ms. Pillay’s sensitivities. Another point apparently unknown to the outside world despite the evidence is that a Hamas officer made a television announcement demanding that the brave citizens of Gaza should remain in their homes after receiving warnings of a potential strike in their area and others should run towards any targeted location when they receive such notices and not run to safety. The reasoning behind this directive is that Israel has often called off strikes when civilians are seen to be in harm’s way of the attack and there have been a number of attacks that Israeli commanders or pilots have called off their primary target and either returned to base or struck a secondary target because of civilians, or especially children, are seen to be in close proximity to the target. The cases where civilians have been injured or killed are when Hamas places civilians inside the targeted location in order to have human tragedy stories and war crimes complaints they can sell to an ever willing and compliant press anxious for any news with which to condemn Israelis and the IDF.

Another front which very exactly focuses one’s attentions on the difference between Hamas and the other Palestinian terrorists, that includes Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian Authority and Fatah, versus Israel is the developments and steps taken by each side since the last confrontation between Hamas and Israel in 2012. Hamas has added three new rockets to their arsenals and has built extensive smuggling tunnels and infiltration tunnels under the Gaza-Israel border and into Kibbutzim or concealed areas in order to sneak attack or abduct Israeli soldiers or civilians in order to repeat their successful trading of Gilad Shalit for over one thousand terrorist prisoners. Israel has produces as many Iron Dome batteries as they could make with little regard to the cost and built a great number of new and better shelters for the civilian population and such that there are always sufficient shelter space in close proximity to virtually any location. Israel has included into their building codes requiring that every apartment or house have a rocket safe room reinforced to prevent most rocket attacks even from direct strikes. Israel has placed their premium and critical attentions to the protection of their civilians and their efforts have given the greatest of all fruits, very few serious casualties from the barrages of rockets and mortars. Hamas demands that their civilians try to become martyrs that they can use in their public relations war on Israel. Hamas realizes that when there are many more Palestinian casualties when compared to Israeli casualties they can scream that Israel is using such overwhelming force that they are committing genocide and the mainstream media in the West will gobble these accusations and run with them all day and night on every newscast and special report. That is a lie and the truth is that Israel values human life to such an extent that they take every conceivable and available step to protect their citizens while giving the residents in Gaza at least ten minutes and even a whole day’s warning before they strike a target in the hopes that they can get a safe distance and prevent their becoming casualties.

I cannot stress the difference in the safety of civilians between Israel who even values the lives and health of their enemy’s civilians more than their leaders appear to value them. This is proven in another little mentioned part of the story which has been covered here but few other places. Israel has continued to transfer tons upon tons of supplies into Gaza every day even while the conflict has raged. We are speaking of anywhere from seven to twenty tractor trailer loads of food and medical supplies. Israel has continued to provide Gaza with one third of their electricity and with water. Israel is not treating their injured as they are being treated by the Egyptians in hospital in the northern Sinai Peninsula. Israel is permitting the transfer of people of which some are probably Hamas members to the hospitals in Egypt for treatment despite it being well within Israeli capabilities to prevent such transfers of people. Israel continues to treat the Gazans who were receiving treatment in Israel when hostilities broke out. This would have included the relative of one of the leaders of Hamas, recently resigned as of the forming of the unity government Prime Minister Haniyeh, whose mother-in-law was recently treated in an Israeli hospital. What nation provides their enemies during active warfare with food, medical supplies, electricity, water and treats the relatives of their enemies’ highest leadership in their hospitals? If you can find one other than Israel I would be interested in hearing all about such a generous people.

There are many realities which are not being reported throughout the world in the mainstream media. I can write about the realities and give the examples all of which are readily and easily verifiable through simple searches on the Internet. The best thing that could ever come of these efforts would be for many to verify what I report and then tell those people you meet on the way through your busy day and correct the misinformation and replace it with the truth and perhaps together we can rectify some of the smaller evils taking place in our worlds. The minds of people do respond when they are introduced to new information which can be verified or comes from a trusted source. It may be a slow and possibly tedious and possibly tendentious way to try and set the world right, but if we do not at least try then we are permitting the lies to rule the world. When lies rule the world then freedom and liberty find themselves orphans without a home. The truth not only sets you free but can also set those you meet on your way free and eventually can free everybody if only we try and simply refuse to relay falsehoods and propaganda from evil and deceitful sources. Any deceitful source is also an evil source as it poisons the minds and the character through its retelling of lies which will rot one’s soul over time. Breathe in the refreshing winds of truth and allow them to spread and sweep away the stench of lies and condemnations of the innocents. Israel is fighting a war on the front lines against the world’s most powerful force for darkness. Don’t take my word; allow me to introduce you to what Winston Churchill said of the Muslim people and religion. Part of Churchill’s writings on Islam stated, Individual Muslims may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome.” You can read the rest here if you are so interested.

Israel Must Take Definitive, Unequivocal Stand Against Any Further Terrorist Releases

There once was a time when Israel drew a strong, definitive, well-defined line that her leaders refused to cross and her people had enforced refusals to negotiate with terrorists and to never under any circumstance release terrorists for any reason, even to presumably save kidnapped or captured Israelis no matter who they may have been. Eventually, after much erosive pressures Israel caved and made the initial exchange of a terrorist for a hostage. This was a shocking new turn from the nation which would, against all the odds, manage to pull off the most miraculous rescue operation in which her special operations forces from the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) infiltrated the Entebbe International Airport in Uganda on 4 July 1976. Israel daringly loaded one-hundred commandos over two-thousand-five-hundred miles (four-thousand kilometers) to rescue the one-hundred and two hostages held by a Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) terrorist cell. These were the remaining Jewish passengers plus the pilot, Captain Michel Bacos, who refused to leave while any of his passengers remained endangered from the original three-hundred and four passengers and twelve crew members of Air France Flight 139, an Airbus A300, on route to Paris, France. The Israeli rescue mission cost the IDF one officer from among the personnel deployed for the mission, Lieutenant Colonel Yonatan Netanyahu, brother to current Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu. The rescue mission has been immortalized in film and well documented and studied as one of the most daring and successful anti-terror rescue missions ever attempted, let alone carried out. This was the measure of Israeli principles and determination when it came to negotiating with terrorists.

Unfortunately, the Entebbe mission actually was executed after Israel had already compromised on their stated rule of no negotiations, no prisoner swaps, and reliance on the IDF and Mossad to prevent or rescue any hostages. The definitive act occurred as a response to the hijacking by the PFLP, the same terrorist group responsible for the later Entebbe hijacking which proved that one successful hijacking releasing terrorists would lead to further such hijackings, of an El-Al flight from Rome to Tel Aviv on July 22, 1968. The plane was diverted to Algiers where all but the seven crew members and five Israeli male passengers were released almost immediately after landing. After forty days of negotiations Israel backed down releasing sixteen convicted Arab terrorists in exchange for the hostages. The slippery slope continued eventually leading to the most disastrous of negotiations with terrorists with the Oslo Accords in September of 1993 which promised that Israel would allow the return of Yasser Arafat and his top echelon of terrorists and Israel would attempt to negotiate the formation of an Arab state for the invented Palestinian people to be formed from within the then existing borders of Israel. This led directly to the disengagement from which birthed Hamas controlled terror entity within Gaza and later to the exchange of over one-thousand terrorist prisoners for the return of a single soldier, Gilad Shalit. Israel now faces the next installment of her emasculation where three teenage youths have been abducted and Israel is searching in hope against hope to find them alive and well before they can be whisked away and hidden beyond any reasonable reach of Israeli forces.

With the precedent having been set and the trending reached such an absurd level that no Israeli Prime Minister can, without the near complete support of the Knesset and a willing media to give cover, take the now near impossibly difficult path of refusing to meet the demands of terrorist hijackers or kidnappers. Directly due to the collapse before political pressures from the “Free Gilad Shalit at any Price” campaign which took the form of demonstrations as well as an all in sympathetic media further supported by Knesset Ministers using the strong public protesters as a backdrop to politically attack the Prime Minister, all converging to permit the release of over one-thousand terrorist prisoners for the sole IDF soldier, any attempt by a future Prime Minister to refuse to negotiate or release any untold numbers of terror prisoners is guaranteed to spell political ruin and an end to that ruling coalition and very possibly a complete defeat and possible collapse of the party lead by said Prime Minister. With this in mind, one has to realize that the recent claim by Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haneya who called for the release of all Palestinian terror prisoners from Israeli prisons is not seen as excessive by the Palestinians or much of the world. There have been calls from Hamas controlled television stations for the kidnapping of six additional IDF soldiers so as to gain the release of six-thousand terror prisoners in Israeli custody. Palestinian media has already explored the concept of gaining the release of at the least three-thousand terrorists in exchange for the three young teens kidnapped last Thursday. These threats are additional reasons that the roadblocks and checkpoints are necessary in order to prevent the movement of the kidnapped youths, Eyal Yifrach, Gilad Shaar, and Naftali Frenkel, thus allowing for the IDF and other units to locate and rescue the young students and prevent the government and nation of Israel once again being held to ransom their children’s safe return.

Israel is going to need to take some time once this current crisis has been resolved even if it must be done in the manner of already set prerogatives. Then the Knesset will necessarily need to address what will be the path proceeding forward from this point. The first decision is whether or not the people of Israel deem it a necessity to support those Jews and Israelis living beyond the Green Line and if not should they be required to relocate within the Green Line allowing for the return of the disputed lands to Arab control. The next decision is similar to the first except this time the lands addressed are those of East Jerusalem including the Old City, Temple Mount, Kotel and Western Wall. Once the Israelis have voted and reached a collective decision, then the Israeli people need to address whether or not to allow any government elected official or appointed official to decide to trade terrorist prisoners for abducted Israeli civilian lives and on another front IDF soldiers who have been captured during operations or kidnapped by terrorist forces or their state supporters. Once these decisions have been voted upon and decided, the results would need to be incorporated into the Basic Laws so that the will of the people can be enacted and enforced and thus made binding on future governments such that there will be no ambiguity. The pieces of truth that Israelis must contend with and recognize is that no matter their choice in these referendums, the Palestinian terrorist government and forces will continue to abduct Israelis, they will continue to attempt to terrorize and murder Israelis, their view of a perfect world is one which is completely Muslim and without a single Jew anywhere, the terrorist entities will test Israeli resolve and exploit any weaknesses they find, the world will never ever support the Israelis, and finally the only recourse Israelis have today are the same choices their forefathers faced throughout the history of Judaism and these choices will continue to be the ones perplexing Jews into the future. Unfortunately, all too many people and too many Jews refuse to learn anything from history. Even sadder is how many believe that history has nothing to teach us because we today are more evolved, more sophisticated, more intelligent and just generally more capable of coping and finding new ways of doing things, which is why everything we read in the newspapers reads so similar to items we could have read and learned about in those old and dusty history books. As the famous sayings by poet and philosopher George Santayana go, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it,” and “Only the dead have seen the end of war.”
