Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas Speaks on Peace

Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, Israel’s presumed “peace partner”, in a speech on Sunday to graduates of a university in Jericho, clarified that unless all of the Palestinian Authority demands are met there will not be a peace agreement with Israel. Abbas threatened there could be no agreement with Israel; we quote, “Unless all the demands and rights of our people are realized.” This is another instance of what we like to call the Palestinian official code, a special situation where the Western World’s media finds it next to impossible to translate any speech given by Islamists in the Arabic language while they find anything said in English by these same sources as front-page top-of-the-fold main-headline material. This is the reason behind the impression that the Palestinians are not only willing to make peace with Israel but that they are anxious and actively seeking avenues that lead to that peace willing to do whatever it takes to achieve peace with Israel but Israel is the side being obstinate and unwilling to make peace when the actual truth is closer to the exact opposite. All one need do to realize the truth of this situation would be to visit two media outlets which translate many of the Arabic speeches, television programs, news reports, editorials and other politically significant news which is otherwise only available in Arabic or Farsi, CAMERA (Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America) and PMW (Palestinian Media Watch). There are other sources such as some of the Israeli media which is written or translated into English, Russian, French or other languages but some would claim that Israeli sources would be biased which is why the above sources are so great, they are simply translations of the actual worlds spoken by Abbas and other Islamic leaders without commentary or slant, just straight forward translations.

In Mahmoud Abbas’s speech to the university in Jericho he revealed the intransigence of the Palestinian side in negotiations and much of what he said corroborated other leaks and comments which have come from Palestinian spokespeople regarding the current peace process talks. These negotiations are presumably being conducted under tight security with both sides held to secrecy with United States Secretary of State and the Peace Talk’s Mediator Martin Indyk insisting that neither side report on the discussions, progress, subjects discussed or any other information to the media or others not necessary to the process. This has been kept on the Israeli side to such an extent that Tzipi Livni has not even reported to many in the leadership of the ruling coalition in the government which has led to some vexation and suspicions that she may be willing to give away the store. On the other side, the Palestinians have had some apparent leaks though they have come from some in the leadership but not directly involved in the negotiations, thus one must decide if they have been informed of actual events and agreements or discussions from the negotiations or are they simply speaking for public consumption and simply telling the people what they believe they desire to hear. Still, even if Abbas’s comments in Jericho were simply soothing words spoken to soothe the masses, they are still important as these are the feelings of the Palestinian population and their leadership and therefore have consequences.

The whole body of these leaks has included some basic themes which have been repeated sufficiently that they have come to define the Palestinian position and their minimal requirements, demands, and willingness to compromise (or not). So, what are some of these positions which have been emphasized during the current talks? There has been a steady procession which has included Mahmoud Abbas, Saab Erekat and on to other spokespeople who have claimed that the Palestinians only agreed to enter negotiations after they had received written guarantees from Secretary of State Kerry and President Obama that the borders of the Palestinian state will be the pre 1967 War Armistice Lines, also known as the Green Line or Auschwitz borders. A slight variant on this is that the guarantee they received not only guaranteed the most optimistic borders but that every single demand for concessions would be guaranteed to be forced out of the Israelis and be forced to make peace completely on Palestinian dictated terms. The demand that within the borders of any Palestinian state every last Jew must be removed and never allowed within the borders for any purpose is an interesting claim they make as it stands in direct contrast to the promise that so many politicians and leaders from the Western world, United Nations and NGOs have made to the Israelis that all of the Jewish Holy Sites will be open to visitation by the Jewish people at any time they desire to visit them for prayer or any other purpose. Some of the sites which would come under Palestinian control should they actually receive borders they are demanding, the pre 1967 War lines, are the Cave of the Patriarchs, the Temple Mount, the Western Wall, Joseph’s Tomb, Rachel’s Tomb, Mount of Olives Cemetery, numerous ancient Synagogues and Tombs of Rabbis, Prophets and other Holy Forefathers as well as the cities of Jericho, Shechem, Hevron, and the Old City of Jerusalem. With these places only being visited under heavy guarded entrance using armored busses and heavy IDF escort vehicles and troops usually in the wee hours of the morning in order to minimize the threat and despite all of these precautions there are often riots arranged and waiting for the Jewish visitors as by treaty the IDF is to inform the Palestinian Authority and receive clearance before any visit. This is a far cry from protecting these sites and allowing unfettered access to all wishing to visit at any time day, night, Monday through Sunday. Allowing the Palestinians an actual internationally recognized border will only make such visitation that much more difficult if not impossible.

Many of the Palestinian leaks have reported the willingness of the Israeli negotiators, sometimes naming Tzipi Livni directly and others just claiming the Israelis have agreed to. Some examples of these statements include the removal and resettling of tens of thousands of Israelis back inside the Green Line, the division of Jerusalem, releasing all the remaining Palestinian terrorists still imprisoned in Israeli prisons, the surrender of retaining troops along the Jordan River Valley as an early detection force protecting Israel at her easternmost and best defendable geologic barrier, open border permitting free access including military trade without limitations, and the universal Right of Return to every single Palestinian refugee claimant to have their lands, homes or equivalent properties returned to them and also changing the Israeli population into an Arab majority population instead of majority Jewish population thus destroying it as the Jewish homeland. Fortunately many of these seem impossible or at least highly unlikely to have been agreed to even by Tzipi Livni. Though she may give away the store compared to the desires of the majority of the Israeli population, she is not going to leave Israel completely unable to defend itself or overrun by Arab refugees from the four corners of the globe. In some ways it matters little what results being included in the peace agreement as the Palestinian leadership ever since the inception of the PLO in 1964, that’s three years before there was any contested land and Egypt still held Gaza while Jordan held the so-called West Bank, has declared their sole intent not the formation of a Palestinian state but the eradication of Israel as the Jewish state. With the destruction of Israel as their ultimate goal, once the Palestinians have their peace and they believe they have attained the most favorable borders they are ever going to be able of receiving, then they will build up their military and terrorist infrastructures, supplies, and abilities until they believe they can attack and destroy Israel. When that day comes the world will witness a new Arab Israeli War and realize that the Zionists who maintained that the Palestinians and their Arab sponsors really wanted a destroyed Israel and not a Palestine. Should Israel be able to defend herself and things turn out as they have in the past, then we will start again with the Israelis are occupying the Palestinian homeland. Somehow I doubt that will work as efficiently the next time, but then maybe I should not be that optimistic that the world would not once again line up and demand Israel prostrate itself and succumb to the Arab demands yet again until the next war.

Netanyahu’s Sacrifices for Peace Irrelevant, Abbas’s Acceptance Counts

The world is watching Netanyahu listening to every word, detecting every facial expression, watching his body language, gaging the intonation as he speaks, and critiquing even the slightest nuanced twitch, blink, wink, nod, and motion with a scrutiny that has no equal comparison. One would think the existence of the Solar System stood in the balance of what Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu says, how he acts, what he offers and even whether he smiles when he meets Palestinian Authority Chairman Abbas and shakes hands. The highfalutin members of the United Nations are all lined up ready to pounce on the first presstitute that comes within their range in order to be among the first to critique exactly where Prime Minister Netanyahu went wrong, what he should have said, how much more land he would have been required to offer and every single piece of superfluous minutia explaining that Netanyahu once again blew a once in a lifetime golden opportunity to make peace if only he had done, given, offered, accepted or acquiesced one last iota to bring Abbas beyond the cusp and had him singing a peace accord. The leaders of the European Union and each European Leader and high government official along with the board members of the world’s NGOs are similarly chomping at the bit just to get a bite of the corpse of Prime Minister Netanyahu should he fail to stroke Abbas sufficiently to make peace. The leaders of the Arab World will chime in claiming if Netanyahu had simply accepted the Saudi Initiative in its entirety and surrendered the sovereignty of Israel to the Palestinian refugees from the four corners of the globe and turned every Jew, Christian, Bahá’í and other non-Muslim into Dhimmi status then there could have been peace and the Israeli Jews would no longer have the stigma of Apartheid hanging around their necks. The only problem which infects the reasoning of all of these people is the same disease that infects United States President Barack Obama and his Secretary of State John Kerry, the phobia that Israel is at fault and the unfortunate and beleaguered Palestinians are blameless and truly seek only peaceful coexistence but they are denied their state and human status by an imperial Jewish State. Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice displayed exactly the misconception that the Palestinians are blameless victims suffering under the oppressive cruel demeaning treatment by the Jews when she claimed she saw the suffering of the Palestinians under Israeli occupation as being similar to her experience of being black in the Jim Crow South of the United States in her youth. As long as the world takes that type of view or any view similar in nature they will not be able to see their way to the reality of why there has not been a peace reached between the Israelis and the Palestinians.

The reality is Prime Minister Netanyahu can offer any solution and no matter what is offered, if it does not bring about the complete destruction of Israel as the Jewish State and does not place every Israeli Jew into a second-class status, then it must be rejected by Mahmoud Abbas. Should Abbas ever accept a Palestinian State, even if it includes every square millimeter of the West Bank, Gaza and Eastern Jerusalem including the entirety of the Old City and the Temple Mount, he would be murdered within the first week as he would be seen as a traitor to the Palestinian cause which has nothing to do with a State called Palestine but has to do with the utter and complete destruction of the State called Israel. This has been proven over and over from statements straight out of the mouths of Palestinian leaders. It is due to such fears that Mahmoud Abbas has set his litany of preconditions making sure to include a number of poison pills which he knows that no Prime Minister of Israel could accept as to do so would mean the end of Israel as not only a Jewish State but as even being a location where Jews would be able to reside in safety. That is the purpose of the demand of Right of Return for approximately five million Palestinian refugees from every one of the camps which are located in Gaza, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria. It might be noted that a number of the Palestinian refugee camps within Syria have been shelled, bombed and attacked by the Syrian Army and other forces loyal to al-Assad mostly because most Palestinians are Sunnis. If one were to look at the maps used in the Palestinian schools, whether they are run by Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Fatah, PLO, or UNRWA, they would find the maps show all the lands between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea as being Palestine and there is no trace of Israeli existence. Many popular songs sung by young school children as well as broadcast on Palestinian radio and television list numerous cities which are within the Green Line as being Palestinian cities. The entire Palestinian culture is based around the concept of the total and complete destruction of Israel and the annihilation of the Jews residing throughout the area. There is one well known fact that should cause people to pause and consider what this one undisputed fact implies. It is granted that there will be Arabs who currently live in Israel with full citizenship and full rights with Arabs serving in the Israeli Knesset, their parliament, and as doctors, judges, restaurant owners, business owners and every other job where they often work side by side with Israeli Jews, Israeli Druze, Israeli Christians and all have the same rights but any land that will go to form the Palestinian state must be purified and purged of every single Jew as there will be no Jews allowed to live within the Palestinian state and those who own lands will forfeit their lands one way or another. If a Jew were to make a stand and remain on their land in their home on land they have a deed of ownership, once the Palestinians took possession of their lands they would murder that Jew without remorse or even a second of thought. How can the Palestinian state be a democratic nation with rights as understood in much of the world if any Jew who ever set foot within their borders would be murdered immediately just as if he had entered Saudi Arabia, another nation where being Jewish is punishable by death? That is the state the Palestinians expect to bring into existence from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea cleansed of any Jews or any trace of ever having had Jews living on their lands.

Should the leadership of many world bodies and organizations, the leaders of the majority of nations and people in general were to suddenly decide to drop their blind detestation for Israel and the Jewish people and make an unbiased assessment of the Palestinian-Israeli peace process, they would immediately begin to look to Mahmoud Abbas and ask of him when he would actually be receptive to any reasonable offers for a peace agreement. They would stop judging any Palestinian leader or spokesperson when they speak in English, French, or any language other than Arabic (Farsi for the Iranians if this is to be applied to the entirety of the Middle East) and simply judge them by their words said in their native tongue spoken to their own people when they are amongst themselves. If you desire to actually see and hear what these people have to say, not just the Palestinians but much of the leadership within the entire Muslim World (one great example being Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood Imam Qaradawi), visit CAMERA (Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America)MEMRI (Middle East Media Research Institute)PMW (Palestinian Media Watch) and Arutz Sheva (Israel National News) and be introduced to translations into English in the first three and a fresh and different attitude on Middle East and especially Israeli news and events in the final link. There is a reason why Israel gets the lion’s share of the blame and the Palestinians always seem to get sympathetic coverage by the press. In Israel the media personnel are allowed to go about their business and gather their information both good and not so good and report what they see warts and all. Most of the Press in the West Bank is controlled by Fatah and the Palestinian Authority while all the media in Gaza are strictly monitored by Hamas. In both areas no story gets filed without being approved and no camera footage or pictures are permitted to be put on the wire before getting them approved.

One famous incident of an unapproved media film being publicized reveals the entire censorship in place by the Palestinian leadership over the media. It took place in October 2000 when two Israeli reservists took a wrong turn and as a result entered Ramallah. The Palestinian police placed them in custody in an attempt to save their lives, an honorable act for which they almost paid for with their lives. They eventually had to turn the police station over to the mob who viscously and vilely murdered the two Israelis in one of the most horrific events in history. An Italian film crew working with Mediaset, Italy’s largest private television station, captured the entire event on film and relayed it back to Italy without first receiving Palestinian approval. Immediately after the film was aired the Palestinians knowing it was shown in Italy moved to expel and forbid any Italian media personnel. The deputy chief of Italy state television channel RAI located in Jerusalem, Riccardo Cristiano, published a letter of apology in the official daily newspaper of the Palestinian Authority as a mea culpa which was demanded by the Palestinian Authority before they would allow their reporters to return to the West Bank. Mediaset was banned after the incident from covering anything in the West Bank areas under Palestinian Authority control. That is the difference, Israel you can cover everything while in the Palestinian controlled areas the media have minders or use stringers supplied by the Palestinian Authority or Hamas, depending on the location, to report the news. That restricts what is seen in the world as the truth of events, statements, and virtually anything else that is presented to the world as honest reporting on the Palestinian areas and their leadership. It is just as bad if not worse than believing Pravda during the Cold War when researching the Soviet Union or the United States.

All that taken for what it is worth, the truth is that all the fuss and bother being reported coming from those in Israel who are worried that Prime Minister Netanyahu might be willing to give away the store really do not have much to concern themselves with. Even if the rumors are true and Netanyahu will offer to surrender ninety percent of the West Bank territories to Abbas with land swaps making up the remaining ten percent, Abbas will not accept the offer as it is nowhere near all-encompassing enough. These worried Israelis only need worry that Abbas might have something in mind where he believes he can take that offer and parlay it into having the United Nations grant him the remainder by forfeiting the original United Nations General Assembly Resolution 181 passed on November 29, 1947. That was the resolution which called for the original partition which would have split the lands between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea evenly between a Jewish state called Israel and an Arab state called Palestine. The Jewish state was largely made up of the Negev Desert which encompassed two-thirds of their allotted lands while the Palestinian state contained the Galilee farmlands, the most fertile land which currently is within the Green Line and is Israeli owned. The Arabs refused this offer and declared war on Israel a few months later on May 15, 1948, the first day after Israel was founded the evening before. The result of this war which the Arabs referred to as a war of annihilation that would bring on the genocide of the Jews in Israel actually resulted in Israel gaining all of the Galilee and gaining a fair amount of territory. The armistice lines from this conflict became the Green Line which is also called the 67 Lines. This was the War in which Jordan gained the West Bank, Syria gained the Golan Heights, and Egypt gained Gaza. Those were the Arab occupied lands which Israel liberated in the Six Day War of June 1967. That war was in response to the Egyptian blocking of the Straits of Tiran which was considered a casus belli. After Egypt and Syria massed troops and tanks in attack formation on Israel’s northern and southern borders and President Nasser was heard on radio and television claiming their armies would push the Jews into the Sea, Israel launched airstrikes on the Egyptian Air Force striking most of the planes still on the ground. Jordan joined the assault on Israel despite Israeli warnings and pleadings not to as Jordanian King Hussein thought the Israelis were lying when claiming the Arab forces were being beaten and instead believed the Egyptian and Syrian claims of massive victories and attacking the outskirts of Tel Aviv. Each Arab nation lost the areas they had occupied since the end of fighting in 1949 and Egypt also lost the entire Sinai Peninsula. And, as they say, the rest is history, or in this case, history still being made.

Why Israel Needs Pre-Conditions and Why the Palestinian Abuse Them

While reading my usual news sources the other day, I came across this quote that led to some thoughts about the “Peace Process”. Someone from southern Israel, probably Sederot, Israel, said the following, “Our expectation is that the IDF will do whatever it takes. We’re a little afraid that if negotiations start again, the terrorists will respond by further escalating the situation.” I pondered this and realized that it was the absolute truth. Whenever actual peace negotiations are carried, even in the fits and starts with all the interruptions for any reason which makes one side or the other take offense, the number and severity of the terror strikes upon Israel mark a definitive increase. With this in mind it struck me that Israel should be making the preconditions demanding that everything be agreed to and the next and only session of peace talks would simply be the signing ceremony with all the pomp and ridiculousness such an occasion would merit. The alternative is week upon week of rockets and mortars raining down on the southern residences of Israelis within the ever expanding range of Gaza fired rockets; increased attempts of murderous suicide bombings; more out of control dump truck, bulldozer, construction vehicles, and other large vehicles crashing down the streets of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem; rock and rifle shots taken at vehicles traveling within Judea and Samaria; murderous infiltrations of Jewish residences both within and beyond the Green Line, and whatever other of the plethora of methods used to kidnap, injure, murder and terrorize Israelis by the “military wings” of Fatah, Hamas, and the rest of Israel’s peace partners. With such a threat guaranteed to commence as soon as talks are announced, why Israel would ever agree to sit down without a done deal waiting is beyond rational thought. This is why Israel should be making the type of preconditions which include everything Israel both would insist upon and even slightly desire so the agreed compromise of conditions would be a ready to sign agreement before the talks are announced.

So, why is it that the Palestinians are making all the outlandish and unreasonable demands to be met before negotiations begin? There are two reasons; one has existed since before Yasser Arafat ever first sat down with an Israeli, the other came out of the blue courtesy of the United States. First, the present from the United States that unfortunately keeps right on giving. That little gem is in the form of one each President Barack Obama and his great and total lack of understanding of, or possibly extreme antipathy towards Israel. President Obama’s first ingenious move with which he claims was intended to simply clarify and define the situation in order to facilitate a more positive situation was his and his alone as nobody had even thought of demanding of Israel a complete building freeze in all the lands past the Green Line, and even to include within Jerusalem and its suburbs. I am sure that as soon as Mahmoud Abbas and Salam Fayyad regained their collective breath and composure, they immediately took up this new and absurd demand that President Obama had gifted them. I mean, they could not appear to be less pro-Palestinian than the supposedly Zionist controlled President of the United States, could they. President Obama has since then thrown in a couple more free demands as he has called for the boundaries for the future Palestinian state to be based upon the 1949 Armistice Line, another Obama original, and the division of Jerusalem to facilitate the Palestinian Capital being in East Jerusalem, needless to comment that this division would include the entire Old City and cut the Jews off from the Kotel and any of their holy sites within Jerusalem as well as Judea and Samaria and necessitate the relocation of over a half a million Jewish residents. It is with great trepidation that I even comment as to what President Obama will suggest next. Could it be giving the Palestinian State the Negev so they have easy access between Gaza and the West Bank?

Now to the other reason that the Palestinians are demanding the entire package and more without their needing to make even the slightest of concessions, even to saying they recognize Israel as the Jewish State. The reason has been noted at least a million times by virtually countless people; the Palestinian leadership do not want a state, they want Israel dead and buried with its head on a silver platter. They are fully aware that as soon as they make a peace with Israel, they will no longer be front page, top of the fold news for each and every horrific or outrageous act they pull off. They would actually be expected to stop killing Jews; Launching rockets and mortars into Israel, stop slitting Jewish families throats in their beds on Shabbat, even the three month old babies; and worst of all, their gravy train would begin to dry up and end within a year or two at the longest. The Palestinian leadership knows they have the best of all worlds. They can skim millions upon millions of dollars and euros right off the top and bury it in that mess they call their budgets and accounting registers. They now enjoy the freedom to say peace in English and kill and slaughter, tear out their throats, paint the grounds with their blood about the Jews in Arabic, and nobody will care, let alone actually report it in the news. Oh, sure there is MEMRI, CAMERA and Palestinian Media Watch who actually translate much of what is said by the Palestinians and about the Palestinians by other Muslim politicians, clerics, and media, but very few people ever bother to actually take the time, expend the tremendous effort, actually bookmark these sites, and even go so far as to click on them on that rare occasion when there is nothing on HBO, Showtime, or the other 5,000 channels, 1,284 in HD all the time, and there’s nothing better to do and get informed. For the record, I would like to thank these people who exert a lot of effort and provide some very useful and needful information for the tireless and thankless work that they perform 24/7-365. Should a treaty ever manage to be signed and sealed between Israel and the Palestinians, then they would have to govern, pick up the trash, make a budget, and actually find some method other than begging from the West, the same West they treat with scorn and vile threats, so they can live happy and fat. No, the Palestinians make demands for the simple reason that they are determined to have the answer to their excessive and ridiculous demands be a resolute “NO!” The absolute proof was when Yasser Arafat stormed out of negotiations with Prime Minister Menachem Begin with United States Madeline Albright chasing after him to no avail after he was offered virtually everything he had demanded. The difference was between 100% of East Jerusalem and the West Bank and 97%. Arafat realized that the deal was so close that it was possible that Israel could agree to any counter-proposal he might make. Arafat’s solution? Storm out of the meeting and refuse to even listen to a single word the pleading American Secretary of State Madeline Albright was literally crying in an attempt to just get Arafat to come back in and make one last and possibly acceptable to Menachem Begin, counter offer. The Palestinian leadership learned a lesson that day and have made absolutely sure never to get that close again and risk losing the sympathy and money foisted upon them by a world gone stark raving mad.
