Israeli Left Showing Their Empty Hope and Change

The leftist block has already revealed their campaign in the coming Israeli elections and it is what some have expected, full of sloganeering with a very heavy dose of personal attacks on Prime Minister Netanyahu. The basis of their campaign will be a mix of claiming Israel needs a change in direction and they are the only people offering any hope for that change. Hope and change, it seems I have heard that slogan from another leftist elite. This anti-Bibi trope will be the entirety of their campaign claiming that Prime Minister Netanyahu was unable to move Israel forward as he had no plans for addressing Israel’s main challenges and problems. What they will not tell you is that Yair Lapid and Tzipi Livni conspired to bring down the coalition neutering it from within while setting up an extreme elitist left block and doing so without having elections. They will hope that Israelis will not have noticed their acts of perfidy in overturning the elected government which the people of Israel had placed their confidence in the past election. The left has a basic message which boiled down to its essence simply states, we will be better than Bibi. The vitriol will come out to defame the current Prime Minister and the leadership of the other nationalist party heads such as Naftali Bennett. Their defaming rhetoric will be gladly echoed throughout the leftist media both in print, on radio, through television and on the Internet especially on social media. When the heads of the left are before the media the questions will lead to answers which will paint a picture where they are the saviors of Israel who are needed solely because Israel needs saving from Netanyahu. That will be the major reason for hope and also their reason for change. They are betting that the Israeli public is tired of Netanyahu and that is all they need to gain power and return Israel to their other idea, surrender the lands and we will have peace.

They will claim that Prime Minister Netanyahu refused to continue the peace negotiations just as Tzipi Livni had almost reached an agreement. The claim will be that Netanyahu could not accept peace because he is a slave to the settler movement, if only that were true. Livni and Lapid will claim that they were on the inside and saw how Netanyahu scuttled the peace talks because he refused to surrender the settlement crazies and instead was going to stick to a slogan of no land, no peace, which indicates Israel will not compromise on keeping the settlements even if that means the Arabs will refuse to make peace without the surrender of all the lands they claim. What will be missing from their message is that they were ready to give up the lands beyond the Green Line for Abbas’s promise that this would end the terror war. They will claim they had reached an agreement with Abbas which would have brought peace with dignity, but dignity for whom? What will be left out is that they were willing and attempting to form a far left coalition which would agree to the proposal of surrender to Abbas in the hope that it would bring peace. They were prepared to trust the man who almost from the word go handed Gaza over to Hamas allowing for the terror war from Gaza to continue. They will claim that Israel should trust them to reach an agreement with Abbas which will result on another disengagement, this time from Judea and Samaria instead of Gaza, with Israel surrendering land in exchange for lying words from the serial liar Abbas. They will claim that this time it will work because they are committed to a fair and honorable peace. All they really want is to stand in the spotlight beaming while they bask in the brief glory of having reached an agreement. Neville Chamberlin also reached an agreement and basked in the spotlight beaming as he too claimed to have brought “Peace in our time.” What he had actually done was, as Winston Churchill responded to Chamberlain’s deal reached at Munich, “You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor and you will have war.” Add the word ‘terror’ before ‘war’ and you have a response to the peace sought by Livni, possibly with Lapid’s concurrence.

The nationalists have come to the proper realization that Abbas is incapable of promising anything as he has no power or influence even over Ramallah itself and is but a straw man guaranteed his place to serve as the reason for Israeli surrender. Every time the season comes for reestablishing peace talks, Israelis and their leadership are pressured into giving concessions in order to prop up Abbas such that he will be able to claim he has gained an Israeli surrender which will make his conceding to talks worthwhile. Then the Israeli leader claims that whatever was surrendered would have been surrendered in any peace deal anyways so it was not given in vain. When the peace talks collapse, as they are fated to do as Abbas cannot make peace and survive, literally survive, that small surrender is lost never to be regained. That is how instead of talking about where to draw the borders of an Arab state we are talking about the Green Line and East Jerusalem instead of someplace inside Area B. This is how we are talking about surrender of ninety-five percent of Judea and Samaria instead of twenty percent. That is why Abbas is now telling the Arabs that soon we will be talking about the end of Israel, and the Europeans are supporting just that result from future talks. These are the results promised by the peace camp, the same people who brought the Oslo Accords which has become a major affliction threatening the very existence of Israel. That is the promise that further negotiations will bring about. Abbas does not desire peace, he desires being given Israel one piece for peace at a time. That is the hoped for change that the leftist will present though they are loathed to speak that truth.

Many on the right are hoping for leadership to arise which can replace Netanyahu, but that is not in the cards this election. But if Israel is to have a leader after Netanyahu, that too is not in the cards for now providing Israel desires to have a leader after the one elected come this March. Many are realizing this truth lately that there is no partner for peace because there are few Arabs who desire peace without it being granted on the corpse of the Jewish state. That alone makes the Jewish State Law necessary though neither Livni nor Lapid could see that as they are blinded by the hope for the change which results in their rightful receipt of a Nobel Peace Prize. The nationalists do not crave such honors; their honor is the health and continued existence of the state of Israel and its Jewish cultural flavor and refuge it offers to all Jews. That is what the nationalists on the right support and is the sole answer which will provide Israel a future. That is something we need depend upon as peace has been the forbidden fruit whose nectar we have been promised a thousand promises ago and still we have yet to get a tantalizing bite of that honey soaked apple. The left will claim that the path Netanyahu will have us tread is one which is without any true peace and thus no peace with honor. What they cannot understand as they have been blinded by the shiny light of peace, but of an illusionary peace whose light is but the deceit of illusion and the actual result of any peace which grants the Judean hills overlooking Tel Aviv to the Arab rocket launchers is not a real peace but simply a prelude to war. Netanyahu is working towards a peace which will not bring the end of Israel nor bring on another Arab-Israeli war. Netanyahu is the Prime Minister who can avoid another all-out war with the Arab forces while those who guarantee a quick peace are blindly leading Israel into war. Their hope and change is a dangerous and rocky path over a familiar road and many see that road which is paved with Israeli concessions ends in a familiar place, and that place has always brought forth war. War is the one change we cannot afford, and that is the reality in which Israel will be voting come March.

As elections approach there will be party primaries followed later by the general elections. How we vote in each level of the election cycle may surprisingly be a parallel to Psalm 26:2 and the different translations from the original to the modern day. The modern translation states something along the lines, while retained the flavor to the original and having the essential difference, “Lord, try me and test me; look closely into my heart and mind.” The original translation stated, “Lord, try me and test me; look closely into my heart and kidneys.” How this relates to voting in primaries and general elections and which goes with which, well read on.

There is always the temptation to vote with our hearts which very few are capable of avoiding without, according to most modern thinking, the discipline of our minds. Ancient Jewish teaching may teach a different lesson which might also have its place in our modern world. But first how can we differentiate how to choose our votes between primary elections and our votes in general election. Let us first assume that we are choosing a righteous manner for our votes and not some cynical use where we attempt to damage a party we would never give even a thought of supporting in the general election, as none amongst us would ever choose such a deceitful path. There is a basic difference between primary elections and general elections. A primary election is where as a voter we are free to vote for anybody we desire as it is supposedly a measure of our most honest desire, especially in a parliamentary election where our choices will determine the order of the party card which it will present listing its representatives for office and if those you choose make it high enough on the list, then you get your own little piece of representation in the government. In the general elections you are not really voting for a person as much the party which you feel will serve you and the nation the best. Of course if you are fortunate to have any of the people you voted for in the primary elections head the Party ticket, then if your party is tapped to form a ruling coalition and they succeed, then your primary choice will likely be the Prime Minister and you get to feel vindicated, otherwise we must simply feel satisfied if we are able to get any of those we voted for in the primary elections seated in the government after the elections.

The primary elections is the place for voting purity where you listen to your heart and then refine your choices with the filter which is the kidneys which remove the impurities and assures that the blood carries sufficient red blood cells transporting oxygen to the body, assures that chemical and mineral concentrations are within the proper limits and are the organ which receives approximately twenty percent of the blood pumped by the heart from each beat. Thus using the heart and the kidneys we take our desires and refine them such that they perform the best in producing results which reflect the honest desires of the combination of everyone’s individual preferences in composing the tickets presented before the general electorate. Further, in most primary elections in a parliamentary system many parties allow for each ballot to contain more than one selection to be tallied and each party has their own manner for tallying the ballots cast. In some you receive a ballot with a set of positions for each member of the party to place the names of their preferred candidates’ names. Then the votes are counted and, where appropriate given weight depending on position if appropriate, and the tallies then decide the position on the party’s slate each candidate will be placed. If their party receives as many or more mandates than their position on the slate, then they will be placed in the government and if their position is beyond the number of positions, then they go home instead.

There are those parties where they have an established slate of members which stand and their primaries are scheduled independently from any election cycle but are held at set intervals. These parties thus do not hold primaries simply because a government has been dissolved but simply hold elections periodically and this can lead to them placing the same slate before the voters with the same leader at the head of the ticket thus allowing for the exact same presentation on the party’s slate to stand for more than a single election if the elections are held prematurely before the end of their scheduled term such as the elections currently being faced in Israel. Parties can also decide on new slates for each election having them chosen by a select committee which could be decided by ballot, decided by executive selecting committee or by any system which the elites of the party might choose as long as the rank and file members agreed to such a method for choosing the ballot and the steering committee no matter how unfair such systems may appear to outsiders. When the elections approach all parties slates are revealed to the public and then the elections are held and the people vote.

During the general elections we have only a single vote which we will most likely give to the Party we prefer or to the party whose person heading the party slate we most desire to be the Prime Minister. Whichever party is amongst the top vote recipients and with the greatest probability of forming a viable coalition, that party and candidate for Prime Minister is tapped to try and form a ruling coalition and if they succeed, then a government is formed, and if they fail then the next most likely candidate for Prime Minister and their party are given their opportunity. Should nobody be capable of forming a coalition, then new elections will be forced to be held and the entire cycle is repeated. When we vote in the general election, we are still given an initial impetus to vote in a particular manner by our hearts which is tempered by the logic and other mindful considerations from our minds, which places the deciding voices of the public before the separate parties of combined tickets such as the one be being formed by the Labor Party and Tzipi Livni and her party. What makes this a heart driven decision is that Labor stands to gain the equivalent of possibly as many as four seats but if predictions are accurate the presence of Tzipi Livni and her party will only produce at best three and most likely two additional seats. The Labor Party is likely to grant Ms. Livni as many as four or potentially five seats depending on the total number of mandates received by the combined blocks. This will mean that Labor will likely receive less additional seats than the number of slots they will be giving to Tzipi Livni and those in the leadership of her party. This will probably prove to be a great deal for Livni and not so much for Minister Hertzog and the Labor Party. Since there may be other parties reaching agreements where they combine tickets or agree to either both be included in any government or neither be included such as was done in the last election with Yair Lapid and Naftali Bennett making an agreement that either both parties or neither party would enter the government forcing Prime Minister Netanyahu to agree to include both parties in order to reach a coalition and may have been part of why the coalition failed prematurely. The different potential combinations and the fact that our usually favored party might decide to team up with another party with which we have a high degree of revulsion would make our support for our usual party problematic. This is why our vote in the general election requires more than just the heart, but the kidneys purifying the decisions of the heart is not likely to be helpful in choosing when the parties make agreements with those we refuse to give our vote to under any normative situations, thus instead of the purifying kidneys we substitute our minds to massage and shape the feelings of our hearts. By using our minds to shape and adjust the dictations of our hearts we might find we are capable of voting for our usual preferred party despite their compromising their purity and positions combining with some we do not honestly desire to prefer and reward with our votes. Thus in the general election we still initially choose with our hearts but use our minds to determine if our party will remain sufficiently pure no matter those they share power with in order to maximize their representation in the government after the elections. Thus we temper our hearts with the logic and power of our minds in the general election contrasting the purifying our primary selections of our hearts by filtering all with our kidneys and that is the major difference between the primary voting and our general election casting of ballots. So, which translation of Psalm 26:2 do you believe best represents your own election thinking for the primaries and the general elections and for what reasons?

President Obama, King Abdullah II and Israeli Elections

I probably should have included the United Nations Security Council in the title as well as that is where this drama will eventually play out. It’s a serious game of ‘who will blink first’ combined with ‘truth or dare’ all rolled up into a larger game of ‘chicken’ over the coming Israeli elections. President Obama really is tired of and hates Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. He despises his nationalistic pride, his belief in right and wrong as delineated by his religion, his fierce defense of his belief and most of all, his refusal to be dictated to and obey every last wise council and direction from President Obama. President Obama does not handle rejection very well, believes he is the most knowledgeable person in all matters and absolutely cannot handle when open defiance also results in proof that President Obama’s demands would have delivered disastrous results plus proving that everything the President held as factual was completely erroneous. What is rapidly pushing things beyond the cusp is the inability of President Obama to handle anybody challenging his authority combined with such denials proving the defiant person having a more grounded view of the realities of the situation proving beyond any doubt that the President’s grasp of the situation was completely wrong. Adding insult to injury, President Obama has chosen to fully back the European argument that the Palestinians are angelic innocents who only desire their rightful and historic homeland restored to them which they lost as a result of Israeli and Jewish aggressions and that all the related violence in the Israeli-Arab conflict would come to an end and peace and joyousness would spread across the globe if only the Israelis would yield to the Arab demands and surrender to the Arab demands. Now the game really comes to a head as the Israeli government has opted for new elections which will make the lack of congenial relations between President Obama and Prime Minister Netanyahu who is seeking to remain in office by having his party, and potentially any other willing and like-minded nationalistic parties, to gain the largest number of seats in the next Knesset (parliament) to return him to the Prime Ministership.

The meme that will be used by the leftist parties and their candidates for the Prime Ministership and other spokespeople and candidates for Ministerships is that Prime Minister Netanyahu is risking the destruction of the close relationship between Israel and the United States which could result in some near disastrous ramifications if Netanyahu is not defeated and replaced by somebody more aligned and friendly towards the American President and his views. Never mind that what is driving President Obama in his views and dealings with Israel is an overriding desire to place Israel in such a disadvantaged position as to potentially make their continued existence virtually untenable. Of course should Israel fall in line and follow the desires of the European leaders, the United Nations, the Arab world, President Obama and some of the far leftist in Israel and surrender before all the demands of Chairman Mahmoud Abbas and surrender all of Judea, Samaria and East Jerusalem, which includes all of the Old City and Temple Mount, for the formation of a twenty-third Arab nation, the resulting situation would place Israel in a severely compromised position which is considered by virtually every last military experts and actual commanders, including both Israeli and those of the United States, to be indefensible borders so vulnerable that they have been named the ‘Auschwitz Borders’, a name first given the pre Six Day War (1967 Arab-Israeli War) borders by Israel’s most articulate foreign minister and former United Nations Ambassador Abba Eban.

One might think that no Israeli leader seeking to be the Prime Minister would ever permit such a situation to come to be, but then many thought there was no way for President Obama to win reelection. This is one of the problems with any political system which depends on the people voting to choose their leadership, the people can be misled and follow a charismatic leader sown the primrose path to desolation and destruction. I think the labels given this situation by talk radio and other personalities in the United States is the problem of the low information voters versus the right-minded thinking of the high information voters. Unsurprisingly, Israel also has its share of low information voters; or at least those voters who live in their own bubble far enough away from any untoward events destroying their serene view of the universe who believe fervently in the far leftist polemical views and definitions of the situations facing Israel and nothing is capable of shaking their foundational beliefs. These people form the central core of those who believe that Bibi Netanyahu is a spawn of evil and everything he stands for is dangerous and must be opposed at all costs. Add on top of this the tendency of candidates to tailor their speeches and positions to match their audience and then you have the potential for sufficient numbers of voters led into voting with what they will later realize was a false sense of security. The last elections had a perfect example of such a candidate with Yair Lapid claiming that he was a far cry from any and everything his father stood for when he won a large following in his initial foray into politics coming from a news media personality. His father, Tommy Lapid, did not even receive sufficient votes the next election to gain entrance into the Knesset as voters were then voting on his actual record and not his campaign soliloquies. Yair Lapid campaigned on a nationalistic and rightist agenda which would have been a long cry from what his father proved to believe. Lapid talked the talk but after gaining the second most seats in the Knesset did not walk the walk. His true agendas came out and he was not as nationalist as he pretended, was actually a relative leftist and his main belief and aim is to become Prime Minister. What is even more frightening is that he desires to be Prime Minister not because he desires to serve Israel or the people, but because he believes deep down that he knows the true and best path and only he is capable of making Israel acceptable to the rest of the world and make a lasting and complete peace even with Israel’s most ardent of detractors who would only actually be satiated by the destruction of Israel and its people. But Yair Lapid is far from alone in these feelings as there are many others beyond just Tzipi Livni, Naftali Bennett and Isaac Herzog. I am lead to believe that it is part of the desire to lead a political party in Israel to believe that you are the rightful and sole person capable of leading Israel on a true and safe path which will provide the most advantageous leadership possible and definitely more advantageous than what any of the other party leaders would be capable of providing. Guess it kind of goes with the neighborhood.

Adding in Jordanian King Abdullah II, the Jordanian King recently had a head-to-head talk with President Obama after which President Obama was quoted by UPI as having stated, “We share concerns about the continuous tensions between Israel and Gaza. We are going to work together for a Palestinian State.” This is interesting in a frightening sort of way as currently Jordan sits in the United Nations Security Council and will assume the Presidency in January and is planning on presenting a proposal seeking a binding resolution under Chapter Seven setting a deadline for Israel to surrender to the territorial demands of Mahmoud Abbas permitting the formation of another Arab state consisting of all of Judea, Samaria and Eastern Jerusalem. These lands will be necessarily denuded of their Jewish residents. This confiscation of their lands and businesses will be made without any manner of remuneration for their value; any financial compensation would be left to Israel to provide which basically comes to a form of double financial jeopardy. Of course all of this leads us to the recent revelation that President Obama and his close knot inner advisors are mulling exactly what sanctions they should place on Israel if Israel does not immediately adopt policies in line with the concepts which President Obama has expressed repeatedly to Prime Minister Netanyahu without any obedience from the Israeli leader. The particular area which has President Obama incensed is any building which Israel allows in areas beyond the Green Line, the 1949 Armistice Lines which denoted Israeli controlled areas up until the Six Day War in June of 1967. What makes this seem frighteningly identical to what Israel perceives as its perfect storm would be the presentation by Jordan under Chapter Seven Resolution bindingly stipulating that Israel surrender all lands beyond the Green Line and return to controlling only the lands it held before the Six Day War and force the Israeli Jews living currently in any parts of Judea, Samaria and East Jerusalem to be resettled within Israel at Israeli expense and have the United States refuse to utilize their veto and allowing the resolution to be adopted.

This may be the exact meaning of the threat supposedly revealed to the Israeli leftist newspaper Haaretz which printed the report this past week. This has been considered the opening salvo from the Obama White House team to affect the Israeli elections. American perfidy intervening in Israeli elections attempting to influence the results has a history. The Clinton White House dispatched members of their election team to Israel to assist the Labor Party and other left leaning Parties in their successful, well, one might call it a putsch others a campaign with a smidgen of foreign interference, whichever you prefer in assuring the then Prime Minister Netanyahu was not successful in retaining his position. The following results from this intervention led indirectly to the Gaza divestment under Prime Minister Ariel Sharon who was elected to replace Netanyahu as the leader of the Likud Party as a result of his loss partially due to the intervention by President Bill Clinton’s operatives in the 1999 elections. President Clinton pulled this coup of sorts in order to put a more pliable leader into the Prime Minister’s office in order to permit him to reach that ever difficult Arab-Israeli peace accord. President Clinton went forth arm-in-arm with Prime Minister Ehud Barak who succeeded Netanyahu thanks to the political assist from the President of the United States onto make peace with Yasser Arafat by presenting him with the most generous of offers by the Israelis working with President Clinton. Despite their best combined efforts, the end result was a scene covered visually by many news reports showing United States Secretary of State Madeline Albright running to the best of her ability after Yasser Arafat in Paris calling out pleadingly for him to please return to the negotiations as Arafat strode out into his limousine and departed. Chairman Arafat found himself presented with a plan by Israel which met his every demand set forth the previous day which the Israelis made their offer as President Clinton gave them whatever assurances were required for them to make the sacrifices. We will never know whether President Clinton was being forthright or simply telling the necessitated tale to reach the desired goal as this offer was refused by Arafat by his walkout as he could not say no to the exact terms he had demanded, only walking out could provide the needed escape from reaching an agreement. Why President Clinton was taken at his word is baffling as previously President Clinton had made a verbal agreement with Prime Minister Netanyahu to release Israeli spy Johnathan Pollard in return for Netanyahu meeting some demand and after Netanyahu complied, President Clinton told him he was a fool believing that Pollard would ever be released by the United States. There were rumors of a more pointed rejection which will not be quoted here as there is no way to verify the comments.

All things considered, it will be interesting while covering the Israeli election cycle on how exactly President Obama sticks his fingers into the mix and attempts to stir it to his desired pleasure. The one guarantee is that there will be interference with the Israeli campaigning by not just President Obama and company but also many Europeans will do what they are able though their injections will come through the use mostly of NGOs that they pay to lobby Israel to meet European wishes. The European Union is liable to interfere more directly likely making bellicose demands that Israel consider certain realities before electing their next leader. Realities is defines as the world according to the European union and has little if anything to do with what is best for Israel except most often being directly opposed to what is best for Israel. Then there will be the campaigns and their loose dealings with the truth which in our case means disagrees with our sensible perceptions of reality. We will also continue to cover other items of concerns including the negotiations of the P5+1 and Iran, Arab terrorism, and general items of interest concerning Europe, the Middle East, the United States, the United Nations and the world and beyond, especially if that much anticipated UFO landing on the White House lawn, in front of the Knesset in Jerusalem, or on the Temple Mount in which case Israel will be blamed for attempting to destroy the al-Aqsa Mosque with their spaceship which had been hiding on the far side of the Moon.
