The true test of a Zionist and of Zionism generally lies with the answer to a single question, where does your heart lie when you think of a Jewish State. There is but one acceptable answer, ‘My heart lies with Jerusalem and with the building within of the Temple, the Throne of G0d.’ This is true as we proclaim every year at the end of our Passover Seder in every Jewish home, “Next year in Jerusalem.” The final truth lies within Psalms in the powerful words within the lines to the “Song of Babylon” written in Psalm 137 which reads:

1) By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.
2) Upon the willows in the midst thereof we hanged up our harps.
3) For there they that led us captive asked of us words of song, and our tormentors asked of us mirth.
4) How shall we sing the LORD’S song in a foreign land?
5) If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning.
6) Let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth, if I fail to count Jerusalem the greatest of all my joys.
7) Remember, O LORD, against the children of Edom the day of Jerusalem; who said: ‘Raze it, raze it, even to the foundation thereof.’
8) O daughter of Babylon, you will be destroyed! A blessing on anyone who pays you back for the way you treated us!
9) A blessing on anyone who seizes your babies and smashes them against a rock!

This is the test which the new Israeli government led by Prime Minister Netanyahu as there will be calls from much of Europe and the Western World with a few notable exceptions; Canada will oppose such a demand be lain upon Israel for as long as Stephen Harper remains their Prime Minister and likely carried on for as long as his Conservative Party holds on to power in the Canadian elections. There is also a strong possibility that Great Britain will also not favor the division of Jerusalem providing the Israelis put forward a strong face of determination to never allow the dividing of their Capital City or the loss of the Temple Mount and all the importance which that holds. Other than these two it would fall to any conservative or traditional party to take the lead for any other nation to oppose such a demand. The crux of why this may become an immediate crisis belongs to President Barack Obama who as the leader of the United States will be left to direct and dictate the manner that United States Ambassador Samantha Power will vote and whether or not she would utilize the United States veto power to block any Security Council Resolutions which would call for Israel to return to the Green Line which describes the armistice lines from the 1948 – 1949 War launched by over a half dozen Arab States to annihilate the nascent State of Israel which divided Jerusalem. Many wish to demand that Israel grant Eastern Jerusalem to the Arabs to use as the capital for their state, ignoring the fact that Israel annexed the entirety of Jerusalem after reuniting the two halves of Jerusalem in 1967 and by doing so included all the Arab residents who had resided under the Jordanian occupation permanent resident status which makes the individual to hold all rights as an Israeli citizen with the exception of political rights. The Israelis actually are only required to grant any Arabs or other non-Jews all rights but withhold political rights according to the San Remo Conference and the British Mandate, both included as valid by the United Nations Charter in Article 80. Israel went as far as to grant the former Jordanian citizens who were included in the reunification annexation of Eastern Jerusalem partial political rights when they were permitted voting rights in Jerusalem city elections. This one further indication proving that all of Jerusalem belongs to Israel and it will never be permitted peaceably to be torn in half; to this too do we say “Never Again!”

Any government which would permit the division of Jerusalem will find itself on the wrong side of the people of Israel who in polling have supported and demanded that Jerusalem remain unified and the Capital City of Israel for this time and forevermore into the future and never ending usually surpassing 75% and even reaching over 90% in numerous local polling. Thus we can easily conclude that any platform which supports the division of Jerusalem as one of their main planks in their platform can forget gaining a majority no matter what their social programs or other money promised to particular groups in order to convert their opposition to splitting Jerusalem muted while they are a part of the coalition such a party might manage to make. The problem is that such a government would be extremely unstable for as soon as a vote came to permit the splitting of Jerusalem or the making of Jerusalem an ‘International City’ presumably managed and run by an agency of the United Nations the promises made not to vote against such a resolution brought before the Knesset would probably not be honored by a significant number of Ministers from such parties who would vote against any such resolution. Furthermore, the Israeli Supreme Court has recognized the annexation of Jerusalem and thus they also might step in to invalidate anything passed through the Knesset and signed by the Prime Minister making any such deal void and without support by the government without opposing the Supreme Court and facing dissolution of the government and new elections. This would place the central issue of the ensuing campaign the division of Jerusalem and losing any possibility that the rights of Jews to visit holy sites in the Old City and around and on the Temple Mount as once the Arabs have control over Eastern Jerusalem such attempts by Jews to visit these sights would result in their death as soon as they were identified. This situation itself, and such extremes required to visit other holy sites described above, are sufficient to reject any proposal for peace which would preclude access by any Israeli to the Temple Mount or the numerous holy sites of Judea and Samaria.

That brings up the other point which is often claimed about the universality of the holy sites and their access being guaranteed for all peoples. This was part of the claim made when the IDF was pulled from Hevron and the majority of the city was relegated to Arab control. This required the strong presence of Israeli security personnel to keep the Cave of the Patriarchs, the Cave of Machpelah, in order to make it safe for Israelis to visit this holy site. The worst case scenario comes from Joseph’s Tomb, Kever Yoseph (Hebrew: קבר יוסף) which is located in the outskirts of Nablus and is completely within Arab areas of control, as they enjoy an almost completely autonomous region within the parts of Judea and Samaria (West Bank) of Area A and B, which according to all agreements is a place of holy pilgrimage or visitation for prayers and other religious purposes and is set apart as to be made available and safe passage to and from this holy place of great importance to the Jews. The reality is something completely different. There is one visit permitted each month, with permitted being very loosely defined, which is arranged by the IDF were one or two busses, heavily armored made bullet proof and strongly reinforced to withstand mines, and a convoy of IDF troops fully armed for security who escort the few fortunate visitors to the tomb somewhat after midnight and steal away back to the safety of Israeli governed lands making very sure they have left at least an hour before sunrise. Even with this covert action there have been times when the convoy was set upon and for reasons of security the trip is cancelled and a retreat to safety becomes the main objective. The trip can be cancelled right before they were to depart if IDF intelligence reports that trouble such as an ambush is a definitive probability. Part of the time spent at each visit is used to cleanup and repair as much of the destruction done to the tomb since the previous month’s visit, whether it was a single month or three or more months since the last visit. The tomb is violated every time after the Israelis try to make it presentable and given the honor it deserves and the Arabs apparently do similarly but have little respect or honor felt towards Kever Yoseph.

The manner and security required for visits to Joseph’s tomb, Rachel’s Tomb, Kever Rachel (Hebrew: קבר רחל), which is a place where women will visit for special prayers the first of each Hebrew calendar month and also require heavy security as it is located northern outskirts of Bethlehem which is within the disputed areas and under shared Arab and Israeli security and Arab semi-autonomous rule and this often leads to the Jewish women being assaulted with rocks and other items hurled at them which most often do not strike within the high walls placed around Rachel’s grave and the women are completely safe within the rebuilt dome which grants them freedom from assault as they pray and neaten the area making the tomb a more honored place. This would be the requirement and limitations placed on the Temple Mount and the Western and other walls of the Temple Mount, the final point of defense in days which are hopefully permanently behind us as Jerusalem deserves a future free of strife and sacking as has been its unfortunate history and may Jerusalem never again feel deserted by her faithful servants whose hearts are gladdened by a visit to her ancient walls and its grasping for a degree of modernity. Israel must demand that all of Jerusalem remain under complete Israeli rule as it has only been since June 1967 that every religion is permitted their rights to visit the Temple Mount and witness the city, both its centuries old buildings intermixed in areas with modern structure thankfully mostly in a style which has them more blend than clash with their surroundings. Let us end with the most remembered lines from Psalm 137 lines 5 and 6 as they speak strongly and resonate at least in this Israeli’s heart, mind and especially and primarily my soul.

If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning. Let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth, if I fail to count Jerusalem the greatest of all my joys.

Hamas Replacing Palestinian Authority Through Terror War

The immediate response when told that Hamas is the future of the Palestinian efforts to destroy Israel is people ask if you have missed the news that Hamas was dissolved and that the Palestinian Authority won and has taken their position as the leaders of all of the Palestinian Arabs, both the West Bank, actually named Judea and Samaria, and Gaza in a unity government with Mahmoud Abbas at its head. That is what the news has reported but then again that same news claims that Israel started the last Gaza War despite the abduction and murder of three Israeli teens by Hamas terrorists followed by two weeks of accelerating rockets raining on Israeli communities before Israel fired a single shot. But don’t trouble the news media with trivial facts as they would only serve to confuse them. So, rather than write more letters to the editor, why don’t we share some facts about the premature announcement of the death of Hamas. The story starts about a year ago when the Egyptians destroyed unbelievable numbers of smuggling tunnels which Hamas had taxed to provide them with their operational budgets. Hamas had much of its terror financing provided by Iran and Qatar but still had the operational budget to cover their governance of Gaza. It was that operational budget which put Hamas into a bind from which it had no escape, so they decided to simply surrender and gift the Palestinian Authority with the burden of ruling and managing the day to day governance of Gaza. This also placed the numerous months of unpaid salaries for Gaza government employees before Mahmoud Abbas and the new unity government. Freed from having to govern and provide for Gaza, Hamas immediately turned to what it does best, attacking Israel and committing terrorist offensives all in the name of Allah and being financed and supplied and even oft times directed and managed by Iran and Qatar. So now the Palestinian Authority gets to run the day to day drudgery of managing the entirety of the Palestinian Arab population including meeting salaries of excessively over-bloated government heavily tilted to security and police forces as it also must provide for the Fatah terrorist arms.

As a parting gift, Hamas forced the Gaza war with Israel which resulted in great amounts of destruction throughout Gaza which now has become the responsibility of the Palestinian Authority and the unity governance to direct all the reconstruction while Hamas continues to conduct its terror war. Hamas did pay a price in Gaza for their forcing the war with Israel and many Gazans hold great amounts of resentment against Hamas for their forcing three wars with Israel within the first decade since the Israeli disengagement, an event which was supposed to provide Gazans with a great and promising future only to be destroyed by Hamas initially by their military takeover of Gaza and then its three wars with Israel. Now that Hamas has surrendered Gaza to the Palestinian Authority, the displeasure with the lack of repairs, rebuilding and reestablishing of a functioning economy now falls inevitably to the Palestinian Authority who has had the entire responsibility placed in their lap. On the other hand, Hamas won far more support all across the West Bank and even with those fanatics in Gaza due to their fighting with Israel while the Palestinian Authority appears to be cooperating with Israel by comparison. Hamas has taken on the mantle of the strong horse compared to the Palestinian Authority appearance as the tired and beaten horse. The war with Israel was intentionally initiated by Hamas so as to gain popularity in the one place where they had no direct influence, the West Bank. This was accomplished through the war with Israel and their claims to have won the war simply by surviving and, according to their propaganda, forcing Israel to retreat from Gaza allowing Hamas to turn Gaza over to the unity government. Then they have made grand demands in order to make peace and by refusing to sign anything less again could claim to have resisted Israel and as no peace or agreement has been signed to have defeated Israel and embarrassed Israel on the world stage. Whether any of these claims are actually true matters little, just being able to make such claims will serve the Hamas propaganda goals and give them an advantage whenever the elections for the new parliament and leadership take place to takeover rule from the temporary government put in place as a placeholder from the time when Hamas acquiesced to the formation of a unity government and the formation of the new unity government which will rule all of the Palestinian Arab population across the West Bank and Gaza. Hamas has been playing for the advantage in these elections since a good year before they appeared to collapse and be forced to allow the Palestinian Authority take over rule in Gaza from Hamas and their plans continue on pace for any eventuality where the elections will finally be held.

Hamas is now freed of the tawdry tedium of ruling Gaza and are completely freed to conduct their continuing terror war against Israel and by so, campaigning for the eventual elections for the unity government. They no longer need bother themselves with collecting taxes from smuggling tunnels, especially since digging such tunnels after Egypt has collapsed them and often even filled them with water from the Mediterranean Sea, which provided funds for governing Gaza and paying the payrolls which they had been falling ever further behind. They simply had to take the funding and supplies provided by Iran and Qatar and consume themselves purely with conducting their terror war. The recent murder of the four Rabbis during morning prayers in Jerusalem along with severely injuring a half dozen others and murdering a Druze police officer who rushed in as the first officer to arrive in a heroic attempt to save those who he might be able was perpetrated by Hamas using terrorists from the PFLP (Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine) terrorists, a terror group which some have claimed has been subsumed by Hamas as have other older and smaller terror entities. The rioting on the Temple Mount has been paid for and choreographed by Hamas despite the instigations made by Mahmoud Abbas which he has been spouting in a feeble attempt to take credit for the violence as he knows that without such credit he will have no possibility of winning any future elections. The drive-by terrorist attacks where Palestinian Arab drivers ran through crowds waiting for the light rail trains, busses or at street corners to cross intersections were committed by Hamas drivers. Almost all of the attacks, riots and violence committed by Palestinian Arabs in and around Jerusalem have been planned, financed, equipped and terrorist provided by Hamas. Much of the rock throwing has been perpetrated by Palestinians responding to the incitement of Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas has yet to infringe on this territory but if these attacks should take a more violent turn and begin to be shooting attacks or using roadside bombs, then we can expect that Hamas has coopted the general levels of violence which have plagued much of Judea and Samaria and the Jewish residents living therein. The recent explosions of violence in the Galilee might be either Hamas or Abbas and his incitement pressing themselves into new frontiers, only time and questioning from arrests will reveal.

The main thing to keep in mind is that Hamas is expanding their terror war out of Gaza and across the length and breadth of the West Bank in an attempt to gain general acclaims and maximize the support they can garner going into the elections for the new unity government. These elections were supposed to have taken place during the Gaza war which, of course, made holding elections quite impossible. The elections were then put off for a few months until order was reestablished in Gaza and the government could make ready to facilitate elections. This may be the one calculation which Hamas may have miscalculated, namely that now Abbas has control on when and if elections are to be held. As Abbas has put off the elections for his own office countless times since they were presumably to be held in 2009, it should be second nature to him to put off elections for a new unity government for easily an equal amount of time, say about five years. Abbas is not anybody’s fool and is fully aware of his life expectancy should Hamas take control of the Palestinian government. It was recently made so clear to him when the Israeli Shin Bet and IDF broke up and arrested a large Hamas cell which had been planning to strike the Palestinian Authority with a coup in the West Bank and take over the government. Their intent was to explode the entirety of the West Bank into a roiling terrorist war forcing the Israelis to invade the West Bank to restore calm at which point Hamas was planning on launching their coup and would have likely blamed Israel for the deaths of the Palestinian Authority leadership which they would have removed to make room for their takeover. Their plans probably were counting on the European, United Nations and maybe even the United States President and State Department to take the bait and also blame the Israelis and without bothering to wait for any investigation demand that Israel redeploy every Israeli from beyond the Green Line and remove all IDF, police and other forces also within the Green Line resulting in Hamas taking over both the West Bank and Gaza and removing their competition permanently from the picture. With their grand scheme shot to pieces, it appears that Hamas has taken to plan B and are simply going to sustain an elevated level of violence and bide their time hoping either to win in elections or regroup and make another attempt at a coup in the future. Hamas can always start to make demands for the elections for the unity government to be held though they will do so from behind the scenes using people who are not known Hamas members or even use Palestinian Authority personnel which they have coopted, there has to be a few turncoats among thieves, and wait for the Europeans and United States to pressure Abbas into holding elections and, after being burned last time by Abbas cancelling elections for his post, demanding that the elections be comprehensive and every position be on the same ballot. Hamas is willing to be patient as whether it takes elections or a forceful coup, they are assured that they will eventually assume the governing of the Palestinian Arabs by vote or by putsch, either one as they are not proud. In the meantime the leadership of Hamas can continue to collect their skimmed funds and enrich themselves further as the other lesson the Hamas leadership has learned is that terror pays and pays very handsomely.

Why Religion Has Started to Die in Society

Almost three-fourths of those Americans polled by Pew Research agreed that religion is losing influence in American life. This is reported to be the highest this subject has ever reached and thus begs a number of questions. The most evident question is what have these nearly three out of four Americans done to bring religion back into their lives and the lives of those around them. Religion cannot retreat from its place in society all by itself; it has to have accomplices who no longer incorporate religion into their daily lives. It is probably a fair statement to say that if only half of those who polled lamenting the loss of religion in the public square would make a personal effort to bring religion into the square that this would be sufficient to bring about the start of reversing that trend. The other truth is that there has been a concerted effort by a small but vocal and bothersome minority which have aided the retreat of religion from the realm of the American society, and they will need to be fought tooth and nail if their nefarious deeds are to be slowed and eventually thwarted and reversed, but it will take most of that almost three quarters of America. If in the words “Under G0d” could be added to the Pledge of Allegiance by President Eisenhower on Flag Day, June 14, 1954, by a Joint Resolution of Congress, then religion can be restored to its rightful place in our society if the majority of Americans wish and act in a manner that assists rather than neglects the place of religion in their daily lives.

Of course there have been other forces at work beyond the control of the average person as an individual. These are mostly societal pressures which often react to the concerted pressures made by smaller groups which are better organized and financed thus giving their views weight beyond that of any number of individual citizen even should they be part of the majority, even should that be a vast majority as long as that majority has not mobilized uniting together and financing concerted efforts to push their views before those who control the establishment of laws or their enforcement. One can place blame on those in high office who permit or even encourage such regulations and laws which work against religion but before doing so there are a few items within their own lives which they would be better served by addressing them if their efforts should prove less than helpful. Before claiming that the powers that be have acted irresponsibly they need to review whether their own actions have properly portrayed through their lives the importance of religion. The most important single item one can do to show their support for religion and their desire to have it reflected through the society in which they live would be to regularly attend weekly services and being active in the organized religious activities related to their particular religious beliefs. Nothing sends the message to those in high office that religion no longer matters to the citizenry louder than empty pews in the nation’s churches, synagogues, temples and other religious services. Holders of political office are not so well tuned and sensitive that they can divine the thoughts of the people by some extrasensory means allowing them to form opinions and impressions of the people’s beliefs in some way other than drawing conclusions from the activities of the people. Short of making decisions formed by the actions of the people they can only respond to what it appears that the people are demanding of them and that is where a small minority can sway these lawmakers simply by inundating them with calls, e-mails, letter and other forms of lobbying. The regular citizen rarely writes their representative and believes that simply by voting for a person to represent them is sufficient to have that representative actually represent them without any efforts on their behalf. So, if one’s actions such as attending regular religious services or writing and calling their representative’s offices, both in the capital and locally, then they are simply relying on exactly what to assure their representatives understand the importance of religion is in their lives and how important it is for religion to be permitted in the public square. But what are some of the other forces pressing religion into retreat from its former place of prominence in American society.

As already mentioned, there are forces at work here which have as their sole intent to beat religion out of the lives and society no matter what the cost or dangers. One such group is the Freedom From Religion Foundation. This and other related anti-religion and anti-faith based organizations spend millions and concerted efforts to chase religion from the public square by any and all means necessary. Such groups have lobbyists who press their influence personally making themselves friendly and close to your representative, make letter writing campaigns whenever legislation they support or wish to defeat inundating your representatives offices both in the capital and locally even going so far as to assure that these letters no matter where they originate are postmarked within your representative’s district for maximum influence, organize phone campaigns calling your representatives offices not only in the capital but in every community within his district, and know all the other ins and outs of pressing your ideas and opinions maximizing their influence, which is all part of the political game. The problem is that they also are minimizing your ability to influence your representatives and often doing so using people largely who do not reside anywhere near you and share none of your convictions, but they have the clout to silence your desires and press their desires squelching all others. This is the most serious problem with representative governance no matter its form, the ability of a small minority to use potentially nefarious methods and silencing a potentially vast majority in the halls of power. There is an easy and available means by which such groups can be vanquished and silenced their influence without doing anything immoral or underhanded, but it does require good people to take actions and do so under the auspices of a joint effort through an organization to which they all belong and are active in, their religious institutions where they gather and worship together. Unfortunately, the empty pews are evidence to the reason such efforts are so easily ignored; they have few who can be motivated to make the voice of the majority heard.

There is yet another problem which may be another facet of the lack of people attending services regularly, or even at all even on the most major of religious days. This next reason, next excuse, may also be a result of lack of regular attendance as by feeling that these leaders stand alone makes them more vulnerable to the malevolent forces. These leaders of our neighborhoods, or at least in better times they were our true leaders, the pastors, priests, rabbis and other clergy, other men of the cloth who have come under attack by forces within our societies. Some of these forces are the same as the ones garnering undue influence over our political representatives and others are the arms of our governance which are simply responding to what they perceive as the will of the society as well as to the dictates of the courts which are influenced by the cases brought before them. When courts see that across the lands there are cases brought demanding the ban of all religious symbols from the public square and the only protesters with numbers are supporting these legal maneuvers, they can only act to support what they perceive is the law as they witness the people interpret the law. The clergy would have a greater standing and voice if their houses of worship were filled weekly by people enthusiastic in celebrating their faith. But when they preach to a small few each week then their strength and power is reduced to a level equal to the numbers in regular attendance.

The United States is approaching the place where Europe has already reached where the clergy fear to speak out against injustices or to oppose those in the government allowing government to stifle and mute their voices. They have fallen in influence so far that they now speak for almost nobody and are thus easily pressed into a corner where they speak solely of those things which are supported by those who appear to have the hearts and souls of the majority of the people. A society is molded and formed by those who have the support and power granted by the ones willing to force their opinions onto the seats of power. That seat of power potentially is the secular governance or it can be the pulpits of the houses of worship, that choice lies with the people. Attend the houses of worship in numbers and the government will notice and adjust to that influence. This has been proven in Europe where the Mosques are vibrant and well attended while the churches in the home of modern Christianity sit empty echoing the silence, providing they have not been sold and converted to Mosques. If people desire to see the future of their communities and in turn nations all one need do is seek where and which religions hold the wills of the people and have the greatest support and there lies your future. It really is that simple.
