What the IAEA Closure of Their Iran Investigations Really Meant

Perhaps we should be starting with the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) Director General Yukiya Amano statements which pertained to the IAEA’s verification of Iranian nuclear research and development including answers to previous questionable activities and current activities including possible secretive research into weapons production.

We realize that you played that ten, fifteen, thirty times and still he said almost nothing other than we wash our hands of the Iran issue and give them a clean bill of health and for more read our nice, dry and hard to read report, if he said that much. So, you ask hoping we have read the report and you will not need to read the report, all sixteen pages, what did it all say? Well, we could answer off the top of our heads, as probably all of you could, it will say Iran is clean now though they may not have been completely honest in the past; we believe them completely now and there is almost nothing to worry about unless they are lying; but we don’t think they are lying, like we would admit we did even if we were sure they were lying, but you will have to trust that we trusted them. Oh, you really want us to go through the report and take out the pertinent parts, FINE! We’ll do so! Trust there is more article after the summary which can wait until you have the time and nothing more interesting to do. Scroll down and we’ll put a nice picture separating the final writings there to flag you down, so look for the flags.

The following were the actual quotes which may or may not clarify their findings and positions, but we figured that was their intentions.

“From 2002 onwards, the Agency became increasingly concerned about the possible existence in Iran of undisclosed nuclear related activities involving military related organizations, including activities related to the development of a nuclear payload for a missile. Reports by the Director General identified outstanding issues related to possible military dimensions to Iran’s nuclear programme and the actions required of Iran to resolve these.”
The information indicated that Iran had carried out activities relevant to the development of a nuclear explosive device. The information also indicated that prior to the end of 2003, these activities took place under a structured programme, and that some activities may still have been ongoing.

There was mention that their information came from a wide number of sources, another way of saying not to blame them, but just in case there was anything brilliant in the report they said that some came from their own efforts, and then another disclaimer which has to be quoted, “from a number of Member States, including Iran itself.” From here on it is quotes unless in {} or obvious commentary by us. And it will be obvious.
“Between January 2012 and May 2013, the Agency and Iran held ten rounds of talks in Vienna and Tehran, aimed at reaching agreement on a ‘structured approach’…no concrete results were achieved during those talks. …”

Framework for Cooperation

On 11 November 2013, the Agency and Iran signed a ‘Joint Statement on a Framework for Cooperation.’
{We could now quote a whole load of legalese describing their agreement and all the trust and measures and validations and verifications and our eyes started crossing and glazing over.}

Security Council Resolution 2231

On 20 July 2015, the Security Council adopted resolution 2231 (2015), in which, inter alia, it reaffirmed that Iran “shall cooperate fully as the IAEA requests to be able to resolve all outstanding issues, as identified in IAEA reports.”

Area Assessments

Gobbled-y-Goop but here it is in case it might be important, like FoR ReAL!

As previously reported, the Agency has focused its analysis of Iran’s nuclear programme on an acquisition path involving high enriched uranium (HEU). Based on indicators observed by the Agency in connection with Iran’s nuclear activities, the Agency’s work has concentrated on an analysis pertinent to the development of an HEU implosion device.

Past Resolutions of the Board of Governors and the Security Council

The United Nations Security Council has affirmed that the steps required by the Board of Governors in its resolutions are binding on Iran. Between 2006 and 2010, six Security Council resolutions… In particular, in its resolution of June 2010…concerns about the possible military dimensions to Iran’s nuclear programme… all sites, equipment, persons and documents requested by the Agency.

Following the issuance of… essential for Iran and the Agency to intensify their dialogue… providing clarifications regarding those issues.
Further to the Director General’s report of August 2012, the Board of Governors, in its resolution of September 2012… restore international confidence in the exclusively peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear programme.

Efforts to address the Agency’s concerns since November 2011

Structured Approach

Between January 2012 and May 2013, the Agency and Iran held ten rounds of talks in Vienna and Tehran… a new approach aimed at ensuring the exclusively peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear programme should be developed.

Framework for Cooperation

On 11 November 2013, the Agency and Iran signed a ‘Joint Statement on a Framework for Cooperation’… proceed with such activities in a step by step manner.

Within the Framework for Cooperation… practical measures and technical discussions had been held with the Agency concerning the other two.
On 14 July 2015, the Director General and the Vice-President of Iran and President of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran… strengthen their cooperation and dialogue aimed at the resolution, by the end of 2015, of all past and present outstanding issues that had not already been resolved by the Agency and Iran. The actions agreed under the Road-map are listed in Annex I. {Great, now we need to read Annex I}
Security Council Resolution 2231

On 20 July 2015, the Security Council adopted resolution 2231 (2015), in which, inter alia, it reaffirmed that Iran “shall cooperate fully as the IAEA requests to be able to resolve all outstanding issues, as identified in IAEA reports.”

Implementation of the Road-map

In the Road-map, the Agency and Iran agreed to aim to…the Agency had assessed to be “overall, credible”, as well as information received…which further contributed to the analysis contained in that Annex.

As agreed in the Road-map, on 15 August 2015, Iran provided to the Agency its explanations in writing and related documents, on past and present outstanding issues. On 8 September 2015, the Agency submitted questions to Iran on ambiguities regarding the information provided…as a basis for seeking clarification; the Agency’s review of information available…any implications regarding the indicators; and the Agency’s questions.
To remove the ambiguities regarding the information…particular locations of interest to the Agency…15 October 2015.

On 20 September 2015, the Director General and Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Safeguards visited the particular location at the Parchin site of interest to the Agency.

All the activities in the Road-map were implemented in accordance with the agreed schedule and, on 24 November 2015, the Agency and Iran held a “wrap up technical meeting” in Vienna.

Methodology

In November 2011, the Agency provided its “analysis of the information available to it in the context of relevant indicators of the existence or development of processes associated with nuclear-related activities, including weaponization.” Since November 2011, the Agency has acquired more information through activities under the Framework for cooperation, including the Road-map and the JPA, through the Agency’s own efforts, and from Member States, including Iran. As additional information has become available to the Agency, the Agency has been able to refine its analysis of possible military dimensions to Iran’s nuclear programme.

In order to perform the final assessment, the Agency has analyzed all the information available to it in relation to each of the 12 areas, as set out in the 2011 Annex. The Agency has also used the same information to gain an understanding of the whole picture through consideration of the nature, amount and coherence of the information over time.

Area Assessments

As previously reported…concentrated on an analysis pertinent to the development of an HEU implosion device.

Programme management structure

{Iran was using multiple agencies and departments and other subterfuges to conceal their real purposes which we recognized sort of; spread over four tedious paragraphs}

Procurement activities

As previously reported, Iran has stated that the AEOI encountered difficulties with procurement… {poor babies} …Ministry of Defence Armed Forces Logistics (MODAFL), thereby disguising the final user.

The Agency also had indications of instances of procurements and attempted procurements of items with relevance, inter alia, to the development of a nuclear explosive device. The Agency does not have information regarding any such procurement attempts after 2007.

During discussions with the Agency…Iran confirmed its earlier statements that…made a procurement enquiry about a specific high speed camera, the camera had been for a conventional purpose and, ultimately, Iran had not purchased it. Iran also reiterated its earlier denial that a named company had attempted to acquire high-speed switches.

The Agency has not received additional information on this topic since the 2011 Annex.

Much of the reports have centered on that the IAEA has found no indications of diversions or of extraordinary mining in or near known uranium mines and that there probably has been no developmental steps taken beyond feasibility and assuring of having acquired the technical ability to produce nuclear weaponry of the nature and suitability the Iranians desired, whatever all that really means. Anyone who expected an arm of the United Nations run largely by third world officials and nuclear physicists whose highest desire was to travel around the world either inspecting third world nuclear sites or attempting to inspect nuclear weapons programs of nations who would just as soon kill as look upon their own people, so you can guess what the worth of an IAEA inspector is worth. The IAEA is also heavily political and not exactly all that enamored with the Western States or Israel and likely more guided by the membership of the General Assembly than the five permanent members in the Security Council. Further, if the people working for the average large city are fairly incompetent and state officials make the city workers look like geniuses, while Federal employees are legendary for their lack of ability, of course all of these have exceptions such as any government worker reading BTC, so you can imagine what any world employees can be in the competence department. The one thing which can be said is the United Nations workers for all of their agencies have some of the most difficult and dangerous jobs when working out in the world as they are often not exactly appreciated by the governments of the nations where they are assigned and often face threats of death simply for attempting to serve others unselfishly and many probably get abuses which they do not deserve. Imagine attempting to distribute aid and food and other sustenance to the people under a dictator who would just as soon see them dead and wants to steal the food supplies and distribute it to his security forces and army which keep him in power and then it becomes no surprise that often the aid is simply unloaded from the ship or aircraft and then left for the dictator to distribute as he desires because it is not worth being murdered in a futile effort. There are reasons that the United States sends troops with their aid shipments. It is true that the United States military should not be used for meals on wheels but sometimes they may be necessary for those performing the meals on wheels distribution to be allowed to actually move the aid. The world is a far from perfect place, something many of us forget or would rather not face as long as it does not affect us and may we continue to live where life is not endangered just because we hold an opinion which others are willing to kill us over.

Going to another set of thoughts, something we do here often and what else can be said about an IAEA report we all knew would be a whitewash of the Iranian nuclear program anyways and that is what we likely got. The hope now is that we never reap the ill rewards which are possible should Iran produce and use nuclear weapons or that ever there should come a nuclear war which encompasses a number of nuclear armed nations and a general exchange of nuclear weapons causes a runaway ecological disaster having planetary effects which could only result in consequences too horrid to imagine. Such an event would make most of those post apocalypse movies appear optimistic with the likely exception of “On the Beach” depicted. That was presumably what the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT) was designed to prevent and the reason for the IAEA was originally enacted and initiated, but that was when the United Nations member nations were restricted.

That was before the fateful decision to allow all nations to enter the United Nations as all nations were equal and should have an equal vote in such a body and the General Assembly was opened to every nation and dictator who desired equal footing with every other nation. Fortunately the original nations who were tasked with fashioning the United Nations kept veto power in the Security Council for the five nuclear powers of the time, or their closest allies thus the United States, Russia, China, Britain, and France were given veto power in the Security Council, the only body which could order the use of military force. That too will soon be surrendered as the world will decide there is nothing special about those five nations and everybody has to be equal. Once the veto for the permanent members has been erased then the seats on the Security Council will be expanded and the fixed memberships will either be expanded beyond reason or abolished making all nations equal in all things and then the United Nations will devolve into chaos and soon will disintegrate under its own equality as the more equal numbers of dictators vote the democracies out of existence under threat of war, of course, after they have demanded and received nuclear technology including weaponization because all nations are of equal value so they should have equal military power and technologies. We will learn that merit has value but it will probably be learned too late. Equality only works between nations who agree on the sanctity of life, have similar value systems and have a free and open society; otherwise you end up with almost two hundred nations who agree on nothing except that there are well over one hundred who wish to drag the wealth from the most wealthy nations even if it destroys the geese with the golden eggs because they want all the golden eggs for themselves in the name of equality. Such a United Nations will be the igniter for a terrible conflagration. Let us pray that the nations with dignity of the human spirit to protect realize their special place and realize it is not rubbing elbows in equality in the putrid bog where leaders disregard or enslave their populations as in such a swamp all sink into the teeming cauldron of inhumanity and such can only work to the detriment of the world as there is enough heartlessness in the world that without freedom loving nations mutually protecting those values all human value will be lost. That is the number one reason for the free world to realize their precious gift and the value of going to whatever lengths required to protect the freedoms from those who would denigrate all human life trampling underfoot the freedoms which by the grace of all that is holy came from the values which have flourished in the Western World and a limited set of other nations who must remain free at all costs. Freedom once lost is almost never regained and especially if it dissolves from the entire planet in a swarming over the free world of a demographic explosion initially necessitated due to a demographic implosion largely fueled by a loss of faith in Hashem.

Why the EU and UN Despise Israel?

Why do the European Union and the United Nations and so many others hate Israel? It is obvious, it did not fail. When the victorious powers of World War I decided to include forming a Jewish State in the ancient homelands of the Jews, they fully expected to be able to send all their Jews to this land where nobody had succeeded in forming a viable state. Not the Greeks, not the Romans, not the Byzantines, not any of the different Islamic rulers and thus it was expected the Jews would meet a similar fate. The expectation was the Jews would meet misery and hopelessness and surrender and need to beg the rest of the world to allow them to return to their subservience and being a kept people who lived at the mercy and generosity of others. After the Holocaust the Western World did feel the guilt for not at least taking even the most basic of attempts to stop the slaughter by bombing the rail lines leading to the concentration camps or taking the better option of allowing the Jews to emigrate from Germany and following it up with taking the Jews from the expanding Nazi controlled areas. The British may have had the greatest guilt, though their actions would never reveal such, as they refused to take the Jews and shut down entry for the Jews to the Mandate Region from which they had been tasked to allow the formation of a Jewish State by cutting the number of Jews to immigrate between 1933 to 1939 to a maximum of seventy-five-thousand each year and made even meeting that number as difficult as possible. The Nazis offered to force their Jews to be sent to the Mandate lands under British rule which the British refused claiming that the German Jews were the problem of the German government and the British had no concern on what the Germans did with them as long as it did not foist them on the British. The United States showed their colors by refusing to permit additional Germans even if they were Jewish as they had quotas, which were never filled but still the State Department, and Immigrations refused to accept the German Jews and when the MS St. Louis was refused to disembark the nine-hundred-thirty-seven Jewish refugees at Havana despite their having passports and complete paperwork as the Cuban government reneged on their offer and while the doomed ship slowly returned to Germany traveling slowly along the east coast of the United States continually petitioning for entrance pleading in radio messages, the United States government refused to permit them to enter the United States and provided the MS St. Louis with escort vessels to assure that nobody attempted to jump ship and swim to the shores of the United States. Eventually, the United Kingdom agreed to take 288 of the passengers who disembarked and traveled to the UK by other steamers. After much negotiation by Captain Schröder, the remaining 619 passengers were allowed to disembark at Antwerp; 224 were accepted by France, 214 by Belgium and 181 by the Netherlands. Unfortunately for the ones accepted into European nations ended up the fate of those nations falling before the Nazi war machine.

The reasoning that the Jews would fail in making their nation work was based on two opposing principles, the first was the seemingly unyielding lands which had foiled every attempt to tame the land and make the land produce by every previous successful and highly advanced for their ages that had made all the lands under their rule into productive lands but the area set aside for the Jewish State had foiled every attempt to tame it, let alone make it support a peoples. Secondly, the Jews were inferior people scorned by every civil society and considered inferior and incapable of acting at even a normal level as compared with normal people so how would these pathetic Jews ever succeed where all others had failed before them. So, by allowing the incompetent to be gathered to work lands that were impossible was the formula for only one comprehended result, complete and utter failure where the land itself would be the death of the vast majority of the Jews allowed to emigrate there and make the remainder so appreciative of whomever took them back in and cared for their needs would receive such praise and appreciation that the Jews would finally be humbled and accept their fate as the condemnable and damned people everyone knew they were. So, it was an adventure which could only work to make the rest of the world able to validate their superiority over the Jew after they failed to make the land produce sufficiently to support the Jews and were forced into begging for somebody, namely their European superiors, to save them before they all perished. Somewhere something did not quite go as expected. But before that there was more which was committed which should have made the failure all the more probable as within the first decade the Arab world cast out almost another million Jews leaving most of them without any of their wealth and even only the remnants they could shove into suitcases and trunk lockers leaving such things as family heirlooms, their businesses, their bank accounts, and whatever else that could be stolen as at least they were allowing them to leave with their lives. This addition of almost one-million all but destitute Jews were to be an additional and unsustainable addition to what was already presumably doomed to failure. As said earlier, something went awry and things did not turn out as expected.

That is where the world was delivered a surprise beyond imagination, the Jews succeeded. The Jews not only succeeded but thrived and actually performed what was considered not only impossible but could only be classified as miraculous as the nascent Jewish State survived, though they did technically lose some of their lands (though they gained areas to be under their complete control in rural areas in the Galilee but lost half of Jerusalem including the Temple Mount and the Old City to Jordan. Gaza to Egypt and the Golan Heights to Syria) but managed to survive an invasion by seven Arab nations and a number of militias including one of Arabs under the banner of the Mufti of Jerusalem, the same Mufti who spent most of World War II in Berlin as a guest of the leaders of the Third Reich producing propaganda broadcasts to be transmitted into the Arab world to turn them against the allied powers. The Jews not only met every challenge and survived but thrived and brought the dessert and swamps into a land blossoming with produce, made strides in irrigation such as drip irrigation which uses water even more sparingly than normal irrigation, invented new fruits and vegetables such as cherry tomatoes, and then started winning Nobel Prizes as if growing them in their greenhouses, and finally became a tech leader in the world in nearly every science all while fighting a number of wars brought upon them by aggressions by their neighbors as well as from terrorist groups targeting them both from within and without. The challenge of draining swamps, an immediate assault by seven neighbors, and becoming a leading nation in the sciences, economics and virtually every imaginable endeavor their people decided to pursue. Basically, as far as Europe and the world bodies were concerned the impossible is what the Jews managed when returned to their ancient homelands.

This success of Israel, the Jewish State, and her people, blossoming in so many fields was simply something beyond possible and completely unimagined. Somehow the impossible people were thrown into a complete wastelands which many thought to be an impossible land and then the impossible happened; the lands bloomed and brought forth riches and produce beyond what anybody might have imagined and grasses that supported flocks of sheep and herds of cows, impossible but that is what came to pass. The Bible could have advised the Europeans that this would be the case as it was stated that Israel was the lands which belongs to Hashem and that He trusted the Jewish People to bring forth its wonders and for whom the land would release its fruits and blossom. The land was promised not to produce for any other peoples other than the Jews. The Europeans had to know of these predictions from in the Old Testament but their faith in the Old Testament was no longer as they had replaced it with a New Testament and a new covenant which replaced the old covenant. Well, apparently the old covenant has some life left in her and the Jews are still getting the benefit of their Promised Lands giving up her yields and abundance which this land denied all others. The land and the Jewish People radiate great benefits and wealth and even now has provided great fields of natural gas just off her shores and even potentially within her lands as well as oil, Baruch Hashem. Many might call this a miracle; I like to think of it as a promise kept by Hashem whose promises should never be doubted. There is a reason for much of two-thousand years the Jews always finished their Seder meal and prayers those special nights with the phrase, “Next year in Jerusalem” (לשנה הבאה בירושלים).

Haggadah Final Prayer and finish of Seder with Next year in Jerusalem לשנה הבאה בירושלים

Haggadah Final Prayer and finish of Seder with Next year in Jerusalem לשנה הבאה בירושלים

The surprise may have initially been seen with a bemused amazement mixed with perhaps a small bit of admiration. But as many nerds have felt when they also show prowess at some physical or sports effort besting one of the letterman in multiple sports at some time, there is a degree of indignation and angst fueled animosity when those considered inferior prove proficient outside their textbooks, the little State of Israel has also received some less than warm regards as their successes continue and things just continue to get brighter and brighter. There are other considerations but why complicate the matter. The truth is the reasons behind much of the animosity shown towards Israel by the European Union and United Nations may never be fully understood. Granted the United Nations with its predominant Arab and Unaligned Nations voting as a single block in the General Assembly and having large representations in virtually every United Nations agencies and NGOs and the oil monies invested in souring any relations others may choose to show to Israel, the United Nations is already dangerous when it comes to all things Israel. Perhaps the United Nations single minded hatred for Israel influenced the European Union with many deciding it was easier to go along to get along and sacrificing Israel in order to improve relations with such a large majority of the rest of the world is a sacrifice seemingly worth making, especially since Israel shares her advances freely without attempting to deny even her worst enemies the use of her discoveries. Israel has even offered to instruct and work with a number of Arab nations installing and teaching them how to build, install, maintain and otherwise utilize their drip irrigation and other discoveries in agriculture which make irrigating the dessert and growing crops feasible. Unfortunately most have refused such assistance as apparently it is better to not have the capacity to conserve water while also raising crops using irrigation more efficiently is not sufficiently tempting to ease a relationship with Israel. The problem with many Islamic nations is that Israel was presumably lands which as once being ruled by Islam must, according to their interpretations of the Quran, always remain ruled by Islam. Perhaps it is a good thing that the British and Spanish never adopted this rule or they would feel they should own most of the planet between them.

Whether the driving animosity is a reflection of jealousy or going along with the majority to get along with the majority, ethics be damned, it matters little. The reality comes down to garner the hate of the Islamic world and the oil flow may stop; earn the disapproval of Israel is a no thrills, no chills, no downside as Israel does not hold back or victimize others just because they may not act in a friendly or respectful manner and spend too much time being critical as there can be cooperation in many areas even if the political arena is presenting difficult challenges. There are those who are critical of Israeli generosity and refusal to hold those who actively attempt to undermine and subvert their standing as a nation and consistently apply a double standard holding Israel to what might be termed a ridiculously higher standard than they hold other nations or even themselves.

Five beautiful, glorious and holy Torah Scrolls which carry near infinite wisdom and are the foundation of all Judaism and their culture and the Jewish civilization is built around the Torah and the teaching of Torah

There is a reason for holding Israel to a higher standard than other normal nations are held and it is because of the successes Israel has enjoyed, earned as they may be, and that Israel expects excellence from their people, their military and in all things the nation as a whole in order to earn their name as the chosen people for whom the swamps and rock strewn hills and desert all bloomed and produced great production beyond anything other nations had achieved. When the Jewish People proved theirs was a special relationship with these lands which had lain fallow and unproductive for nearly two-thousand years and also rose to the top in virtually every field of the sciences and humanities as well as becoming the “Start Up Nation” and a technological giant and in all these fields, to borrow a phrase often used by President Obama, punching well above their weight, with great achievement comes great expectations and the world of nations should expect more of Israel and the Israelis because they have proven that there is a society which can meet or exceed such expectations. Is it completely fair? No, of course not but who promised things would be fair. Were the years of persecutions stretching back over three-thousand years fair, of course not. So, now that the Jews have been returned to our natural lands should we expect things to be fair. We should expect things to be even more unbalanced and the world to expect things of magnificence from the state of Israel, from the nation who claims to want to be a light unto the nations. You expect to be an example for the rest of the world whether they desire it from you or not then you need to have them expect perfection or near as human beings can reach to perfection and to always demand you do better than all others and just be that light unto the nations because you meet or surpass every expectations. Our Torah tells us that we should strive to be the best that each of us can be and that we are to hold ourselves to the highest of standards so we should take any expectation raised by others as their challenge to us to accomplish such deeds. The only place where we need not listen to those detractors who would not be pleased no matter what is when they demand our surrender from the lands that were promised us by the world at the end of World War I. The world claims we must give up lands so the Arab Palestinians can have their own nation and to that we must ask then what is Jordan if not that nation. The lands east of the river were to be for the Arab Palestinians and the lands west of the river were promised for time immemorial for the Jewish State and this was the promise from the British and agreed to by the rest of the world otherwise all of what was the British Mandate should be the Jewish State. Who knows, after Islamic State decides to set their sights on Israel as their next target they will need to swallow Jordan and whatever of the Arab Palestinian PLO remains on their way to Jerusalem and Haifa and once Israel dances with the Islamic State the Russians and United States will both have one less worry on their plates.

It has long been obvious that though the Pentagon, many on both sides of the aisle in Congress and throughout numerous other Cabinet departments and through numerous sectors and individuals in the United States support Israel and treat Israel as a friend. The animosity which originates from the Department of State sours much of the relations. Israel and the military and intelligence agencies share much information and their different avenues complement each other. There is a long history of Israeli innovation being returned to the Pentagon for incorporation on the United States equipment. One of the earliest of such improvements was what became known as the Super Sherman Tank which Israel redesigned the transmission, engine and upgraded main gun which prolonged the use of this weapons system for many additional years before finally being replaced in the early 1960s by the M60 Tank. One of the more recent and inexpensive upgrades came to the vaunted F-16 Jet Fighter which provided a means for the pilot at a glance to check his six, as looking for somebody coming up behind him as a threat is called. This upgrade consisted of attaching an extended automobile sport side-view mirror; the sport mirror was chosen to reduce drag. Sometimes the simplest of improvements prove just as valuable as retooling entire systems. Then there were the upgraded specifications to the Bradley Fighting Vehicle, many of which were eventually adopted by the United States. Israel also has often been the initial test case for United States weapons systems tests in actual combat, something the Israelis would rather avoid more of in the future but such is not always her choice. But even back in May of 1948 the State Department advised against the United States recognizing Israel when it declared its coming into existence as was also the advice of the Defense Department and virtually any Cabinet Member in President Truman’s staff as well as his closest advisors. One of the stories as to why President Truman went against such advice and recognized Israel immediately after their announced statehood was he was simply remembering the teachings his mother had instilled in him as a young child telling him the Biblical stories about the Hebrews, the Jews and the Exodus and that Israel was the Jewish ancient, and now modern, homelands. If such is a true story, then we thank Mrs. Truman, Harry Truman’s mother for such wisdom in raising her son while thanking Harry S. Truman for his fortitude in the face of raging advice to recognize the Jewish State.

An aside, does anybody know what the ‘S’ stood for as his middle name and the entire story behind it? Oddly enough, Harry Truman believed that all great men and especially Presidents had and always should have a middle initial even if they had no middle name from birth. Harry, for reasons unknown, chose ‘S’ for his middle initial though he never attached an actual middle name. This led some to call him, and not all that affectionately, Harry ‘S’ for nothing Truman. President Truman was also the President who first had a wooden nameplate which instead of his name stated, “The Buck Stops Here.” Sure is a far cry from recent Presidents who if they had a sign it would read, “The Buck Never Got Here and I Found Out About it Just Like Everybody Else in the News This Morning.”

The State Department animosities towards Israel is one item which cannot be laid at the feet of President Obama as the history of such difficulties may have started even before May of 1948 as they likely were opposed to the United Nations vote which suggested a plan by which Israel would have shared the sliver of land allowing for a Arab State next to the Palestinian Jewish State, as the Jews were called Palestinians in 1947-8 and on until the name was appropriated by Yasser Arafat in 1964 when founding the PLO (Palestinian Liberation Organization) which the KGB assisted in forming three years before there were any occupied lands unless all of Israel is considered occupied lands, the claim of the PLO, Arafat and his trusted number two, Mahmoud Abbas. The KGB wrote the charter and fashioned the PLO to mirror the same exact claims made by the Zionists except substituted Arab for the word Jew and even went so far as to adopt much of the Old Testament as being Arab and not Jewish history just leaving out the names but keeping the events in a manner. The KGB plan was to use the same tactics and arguments the Jews had made as the Zionist Congress which gained the promise of the world, including the leader of the Arab world, King Faisal I bin Hussein bin Ali al-Hashimi, when the treaty of the San Remo Conference was adopted as part of the peace agreements ending World War I and also affirmed, adopted and enforced by the League of Nations through the Mandate System all of which was adopted subsequently by the United Nations under Article 80 of the United Nations Charter. The KGB saw the advantage of making the PLO the underdog making the identical claims the Zionists had put forward starting before the dawn of the Twentieth Century dating back to the 1897 founding of the Zionist Congress, the culmination of Theodore Herzl’s dream and life’s work which predated the founding by some years and cemented by the Alfred Dreyfuss conviction for treason for which he was later exonerated and the actual traitors found out after a prolonged agonizing series of events which was heightened and succeeded in very large part to Alfred’s wife, Lucie Eugénie, and the support by Émile Zola who wrote the scathing article, “J’Accuse” on January 13, 1898 (see article below).

J Accuse Emile Zola critique the wrongful conviction of Alfred Dreyfuss of treason solely as a Jew he made the perfect scapegoat behind which the General staff of the French Army could conceal perfidy of one of their own royalties as anti-Semitism played a high motivating factor in belief that Alfred Dreyfuss was guilty as Jews were rumored to be of untrustworthy nature and not loyal to the state. This was played up in his trial but in the end Alfred Dreyfuss became the only man ever released and exonerated after being imprisoned on Devil’s Island Prison.

Meanwhile, the little trip to review L’affair Dreyfuss simply shows that the United States Department of State is anything but alone in possessing such a history and with the current tone and direction in Europe, and even signs in the United States, has company in the present as well. There are those when the largest challenge facing the United States was Soviet Communism claimed that the State Department was staffed primarily with Soviet Communist sympathizers or possible agents, which was given great validation with the trial and conviction of Aldrich Ames and Alger Hiss. Much of the rest of the attitudes of the public that there was a definitive Soviet strain running through the State Department also made sense as the people most desired and required by the State Department were people fluent in Russian and most of the applicants historically had been leftists which immediately sends up red flags (all puns intended) that large numbers of Communist populated the State Department. Now the emphasis for the State Department is the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and Muslim nations including non-Arab states such as Iran, the Philippines, Malaysia and other Asian Islamic majority nations plus some of the Northern African and Horn of Africa Islamic nations. This has brought a number of Arabic and Farsi speaking individuals into the State Department and, as can be expected, the conspiracy theories are all about the Muslim Brotherhood, al-Qaeda, Iranian, Saudi and a myriad of other Islamic infiltrators taking over where the Communist infiltrators left off in the who has infiltrated the State Department paranoia. Of course one must keep in mind that just because one has paranoid delusions that one is not actually correct in their suspicions. With either theory, whether it be Soviet agents or Islamic agents infiltrating the State Department, either or both were not exactly close friends of Israel; one might even venture to place them as enemies of the Jewish State.

The suspicion that the State Department has a distinct dislike of Israel does not need much investigation to realize the reality of such accusations. Add the current White House and the fact that an Iranian born person is currently a close advisor to the President and the tracing of a small but not insignificant number of Muslim Brotherhood related, linked or having strings which lead to the Brotherhood individuals employed by the White House in different advisory and support positions explains the reasoning that President Obama had as his plan from day one to, in his world, “put some daylight between the United States and Israel,” and he has succeeded in this endeavor with great achievements. The President’s other claim upon entering the White House of making Iran a member of the clubs of world nations and placing them as the leading influence in the Middle East as well as the rest of MENA and, if the Iranians get their greatest of desires, far more including Europe and beyond. When President Obama initially stated his desire to bring Iran into the clubs of nations few expected at first that one of those clubs was the nuclear weapons club, one of the more exclusive clubs soon to become the fastest growing club with new members galore within the next eighteen months or less. The world may as well face the facts that unless another nation steps forward to enforce the Nuclear Non-Proliferation treaty (NPT) then not only will Iran be nuclear armed within the rest of the term of President Obama as they are highly unlikely to bet the house and the opportunity to become a nuclear power on the next President honoring the promises made by President Obama and otherwise treating them in the same vein as he treated those of his predecessors, President George W. Bush in particular. If this is the Iranian deadline one can bet that it is everyone’s deadline.

Meanwhile, the State Department is patting each other on the back for another fantastic success just like the success they made in North Korea. One need understand that the State Department is always shocked when the other side of these actually very weak agreements fails to even bother to take ten minutes aside and rejoice their victory before setting about to break every promise and stipulation in the deal they just signed. Perhaps if we made it a rule to sign all agreements the morning of the day observed as their weekend then their employees tasked with enforcing agreements would take at least the remainder of the signing day off before working to invalidate every last word including ‘of’, ‘the’ and ‘and’ of that agreement. There is an exception, and that is Israel. Israel is held by the State Department to a standard unparalleled throughout all of human history. The State Department does not only hold Israel to the terms of every agreement but even believes Israel should also be forced to commit to upholding State Department inter-office memorandums and bullet points. These are not parts of treaties or agreements; these are simply the dreams and other machinations from the dark recesses of the twisted minds of people who really do not like Israel. The animosity towards Israel from the State Department is palpable. This was made evident during the administration of President George W. Bush amongst others before him back to November 29, 1947, or at the least May 15, 1948.

To give a prime example of the brilliance in making the world that little bit extra tough for Israel, the State Department will always be there with its version of tough love, let us look at the foremost action taken at largely the behest of the State Department as communicated to President George W. Bush by then Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. We need to remember that George W. Bush, despite his insistence that Israel be divided further ignoring international law and treaties which give Israel the undivided lands west of the Jordan River. Also in plans to assist Israel by applying the deeply rooted, if not thought out, plan that democracy instituted allowing the citizenry to vote will produce leaders who will be willing to work towards the same goals as the Western Democracies, all will result in more fanfare than progress or change. Never mind that the people in many of these nations and populations have little if any concept on freedom, independence of the ballot box and anonymous voting rights meaning their recorded vote theoretically is untraceable back to them or any other individual. They do not believe that their cast vote matters unless it is cast to retain those in power otherwise when they return to power life will not be comfortable, and one can rely on the promise that they will return to power and their vengeance will be swift and brutal. Only if they are replaced by somebody even more brutal and strong enough to resist any and all attempts to steal their position by coup does this new ruler remain in power. This was recently made very evident when Egyptian President Morsi despite attempting to replace some of the ranking Generals in the military was unable to rid himself of Commander of the Armies Sisi who removed him, set up an interim government run by military council sans himself and while he appeared bold and favored to be the next President. This came to pass and in his first year as President of Egypt he has removed much of the leadership of the Muslim Brotherhood as well as tried former President Morsi for criminal intents thus guaranteeing he will never return to office.

When President George W. Bush insisted that the new election in the Palestinian autonomous regions of Gaza, Judea, and Samaria allow anybody and everybody to be permitted to field candidates, even Hamas, Islamic Jihad, al-Qaeda of Gaza, the various criminal gangs and on and on; Arab Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas protested vehemently but to no avail; Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu warned exactly as had Abbas and with the same results; everybody who knew anything about the Middle East would have realized that Hamas would likely defeat Fatah and the other so-called moderates would lose. Abbas even made sure his office was not included in the coming fiasco. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice echoed the concept that elections would solve all the ills and with proper representation and the terrorists embarrassed sufficiently and out of power as no rational people would choose terrorists, especially known terrorists to lead their society as to do such would be madness. This line of reason was solidly purported by the State Department, the source of this misbegotten concept that democracy, especially democracy where there is absolutely no history of independent thought and even the predominant religion was based on surrender of the self to the whole we were told, the entire world was told, that democracy cures all ills. Well, guess what, Hamas won and won easily. Their electoral victory was muted as much as Abbas was able which may have partially led to the Hamas coup to take complete control in Gaza. Now it is that same State Department which calls for Israel to allow these “Freedom Flotillas” to pass unmolested through the arms sea embargo enforced by both Egypt and Israel claiming that it could do no harm. Israel, quite rightfully, maintains that once a single such flotilla was granted free pass the next ones would be chocked full of arms. Still the State Department is right there looking over Israeli shoulders for the slightest innuendo that Israel may be about to act is done in a manner which the State Department current directives and policy statements. As far as the State Department is concerned, Israel is a wholly owned subsidiary of the United States and is ruled over as a protectorate under State Department management. The State Department has been working endlessly and with unceasing efforts to undermine every Israeli attempt to mitigate the Iranian nuclear threat. It has perhaps the State Department and White House concerted efforts to prevent Israel from taking any action. They leaked the information that Israel had arranged to lease for training purposes a pair of Azerbaijan airfields which had the immediate effect the Israeli hope to use that military option President Obama and the State Department not only were dead set on keeping said military plan firmly cemented on the table but to also cement any Israeli hope to terminate the Iranian immediate nuclear threat their own method. There was another leak; this time from the White House ending the hopes being granted overfly permission by Saudi Arabia. Every time there has been a plan it has been blocked either by the White House or the State Department. It was a report from the State Department which advised every President to demand that Israel return all of the property she may have gained even in defensive wars where she was the attacked and thus aggrieved nation and had every right under international laws to retain any and all lands gained in such a defensive war such as were deemed necessary to provide for defense or that had other valuable resources which would aid in future efforts and discourage their enemies from again bringing war against the aggrieved nation. But instead of the winner getting to dictate the peace, the State Department with valuable assists from the European Union and its member nations, along with the Arab League and the aggressor nations have an almost universal privilege at determining where the boundaries will be drawn almost exclusively placing the lines in some manner forcing Israel all the way back to her previous position reinstating the Green Line placing Israel into jeopardy once more.

Further proof was provided during last summer’s Operation Defensive Edge where the State Department was assigned final clearance for any and all shipments of arms to Israel including guaranteed by documented arms agreements, the kind President Obama claims he was arranging with Iran with one very significant difference, the Israeli arms agreements had been ratified by Congress receiving near unanimous support from Congress. This one extra signoff should have been merely a formality but instead became a complete arms embargo for the duration of the conflict. The coordinated assault meant to force Israel into a defenseless position as she might have run out of munitions, in particular JDAMs and other smart weapons which minimize collateral damage as best as possible which weapons are vital to reduce civilian casualties which Hamas and Islamic Jihad and other groups fighting against Israel who locate their emplacements instead of out in open areas use the heavily populated cities, and Gaza had large areas of farmlands (as depicted in map below showing population distribution in the Gaza Strip) and is not packed border to border with people. Central Israel where Hamas aimed most of their M 75 and the M 302 missiles has a greater population density than does Gaza. Jerusalem neighborhoods would rival Gaza City for population density as would Akko but these facts never quite make it onto the facts sheet the State Department puts out for the media and news shows to utilize as presumably unbiased reporting.

Population density map of the Gaza Strip where the display shows large open areas with little population where Hamas, Islamic Jihad and other combatants could operate without threat to the population but instead choose to place the entirety of their rocket and missile systems within Gaza City, Khan Yunis, Deir al-Bala, and Jabalia Camp. The Israelis, on the other hand, set up well outside the inhabited areas such as Sderot to assure the civilians are in minimal danger though these efforts are wasted as Hamas and Islamic Jihad fire their missiles and rockets and mortars into the Israeli civilian centers hoping to murder noncombatants through their actions, both Israeli and Gazan which doubles the war crimes committed by Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the rest.

Israel has no choice but to believe that Israel may not ever return to the trust level shared for almost half a century. This may mean that the F-35 Jet Fighters will be the first and last stealthy airframes purchased from the United States. As another source would just as likely to become problematic with time, perhaps some serious consideration should be given to produce all vital military components and complete systems within Israel dependent only on the outside world for raw materials such as iron, carbon and fuel. The designs and manufacture should be completed at home. We have the ability and the facilities as is proven by the drone manufacturing where the Hermes 900 drone which is virtually the size of a modern fighter just differently powered and unmanned. On that note we should point out that going pilotless with each fighter pilot placed on the ground nearby or in a squad aircraft which would carry a set of up to twenty-five pilots with each controlling his aircraft inside an escort plane sitting twenty to thirty miles from the deployed aircraft keeping them safe while allowing greater maneuverability for their aircraft no longer subjected to human limitations. Each aircraft is also set automatically to using defensive maneuvers and returning to its home base or returning to the arena should its pilot regain control. Such a system would maximize safety for pilots and Israel could use their advanced drone knowledge to accomplish this system before the rest of the world if only we would take the leap and have the faith in our engineers and technicians to work out such a system where each pilot sits in a mock-up canopy with all the controls just as they are in the aircraft just like the trainers are today except this system does not need to try and mimic the movements and G-forces. The sooner we stress this as Israel’s future air force the sooner it will be the Israeli Air Force (IAF). What’s the saying, “The future is now!” Why not make that the motto of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the Army, Navy, Air Force, Border Patrol and even Law Enforcement, time to get smart, efficient and a step ahead.
