Israel, Different Expectations but not Treatment

Often in discussions over the different reactions to Israel few and far apart acts of lawlessness against the near constant acts of lawlessness and sheer brutality committed daily by the Arabs comes the accusation that Israel must accept different treatment because of the Chosen People and the claims to our being an ethical people. There are points made in those claims if only they were not used as an accusation, used as a club with which to berate Israel in an effort to force her to surrender to any aggression perpetrated against her without ever reacting or lashing out in an act of violence by one Jew despite the lack of support for such acts which so obviously follow and the fact that such acts are punished, not rewarded as with the Arabs who pay their terrorists in Israeli prisons an exorbitant salary and give large compensation and a stipend salary to those families of fallen terrorists. The Duma arson case was an example in full view of any who bothered to follow the case. Israel requested the Palestinian authority to look into the possibility that it was a feud or other Arab on Arab violence as such was within their autonomous region so they held complete security and civil jurisdiction and even before their response was returned claiming a clean investigation the Shin Bet was investigating the possibility this was as it appeared, an Israel crime. Where some questioned the depths and tactics used by the Shin Bet, they did unravel the case and found at least a pair of the culprits and will continue investigating mostly by monitoring the two suspects and other means to see who, if anybody, else may have had a hand in the perpetration of the heinous crime or the planning or subsequent cover-up trying to hide any knowledge or evidence from the authorities. While there will still be many recriminations against the Shin Bet and their techniques, especially the continuing to hold suspects they had completely cleared of any fore knowledge, subsequent potential cover-up or any accessorial guilt for additional weeks of questionable investigative intolerances. But the depth and severity of the investigation and the wide net thrown over not only the two suspects but every and anybody within their social network and beyond put on display the extents beyond the norm anywhere else including the detention of individuals who at best had even a remote possibility of having knowledge as to who dunnit and the use of bringing in family members of those most closely suspected to both glean any additional clues and to be a form of added pressure on the main suspects in attempts to have them crack. In the end it will be, unfortunately, for the political and other lawmakers and the Attorney General and Courts who approved the extraordinary tactics which bordered on torture to decide if things actually got out of hand and if perhaps they were a little too fervent in their efforts against an entire community for the deeds of two miscreants who will be facing serious time in prison should they be found guilty, the evidence will be presented in court and likely not before except through dribs and drabs leaked to the media even against gag orders being in place.

Place the events when an Israeli commits a crime, even a crime of passion where they were responding to overbearing personal turmoil reacting to the constant events of Arab stabbings, assaults, vehicular rammings into crowds, firebombings as well as what has been a daily occurrence for more years than we care to count of large rock and even cement blocks hurled at passing Israeli cars even on the two highways between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, spitting and cursing at Jews in religious garb, assaults on the same, periodic stones and rocks thrown down on Jews praying at the western Wall from above on the Temple Mount, heckling by organized and salaried throngs of women yelling at Jews chasing them on their entire trip to visit the Temple Mount, the recent further change in the status quo adding the latest change of forbidding Jews in particular and often also Christians from praying or even expressing emotion when finally being permitted a few brief moments visiting the Temple Mount before being brusquely hustled to the closest exit terminating what often is a once a year and even once in a lifetime visit to this holiest of sites, and other assaults and indignities which would never even occur in the Western world as such behavior is not a part of daily life because the occurrences are far too prevalent to incarcerate all of the offending miscreants. This is what will become of the daily stabbings as they continue apace since their onset months ago and already they have passed from the news and are being treated by the media as just a common event to be suffered by the Jews for living in Israel and daring to leave their homes. After all, why are we complaining as we should expect such treatment after all we are Jews, what did we expect?

Right there is the crux of the problem, we are Jews, what did we expect. Well, we expected the common courtesy expected by any other human being but apparently there are far too many in the world who still believe that Jews are lesser beings deserving of shaming and degradations one would not even commit to a feral dog, but for Jews we must expect such treatments as it has always been and always should continue to be our lot in life and to expect different is all so typical of the Jews demanding better treatment. We are not demanding better treatment as in above others; there we are but demanding equal treatment. The better treatment we might be demanding is better treatment than we currently receive in places beyond Israel throughout the globe where Jews are often made to feel denied acceptance and often intimidations and belittlement at the hands of others often when the Jew is alone and comes upon by a group of his so-called peers. Not having the typical expected appearance that such individuals would believe a Jew would appear, having blond hair in my youth with blue eyes, I was too often discomforted to witness such events which would always spur me to act which for reasons which escape me (though I have been told by friends I have this uncanny ability to scare people) would always bring such actions to an abrupt end, much to my satisfaction. I had at times been accused as being a Jew lover, an accusation I happily and proudly would wear as a sign of enlightened pride. Even when I told people I was Jewish they would not believe me, too bad.

That is where the problem continues to exist and the recent actions of the European Union and those governmental agencies and NGOs and companies, unions, organizations, boards, musicians and Stephen Hawkins and he claims to be of higher intellect (though I suspect the falling to the BDS pressure was a decision made by his handlers and he was never informed but that might be granting him more credit than he is due as it could have been his decision) who have caved to pressure or peer demands and joined the BDS movement or refused to visit or perform in Israel should be ashamed of themselves for caving to such bullying unless they secretly or not so secretly do hold Jews in disdain and believe them not to be quite as human as they and the rest of mankind. There is a part of the BDS movement as does all anti-Israel or anti-Zionist and definitely anti-Semitic, which the first two are but variations of the last, want to convince everyone to hate Israel but Heaven forbid ever visit Israel even if it is to witness where their religion also began. Ever stop to think why the BDS movement is so adamant against allowing anyone to even visit Israel? Well, let me clue you in on this, they so not want you to see the truth with your own eyes as doing so will guarantee the average person that the BDS movement is empty of any validity and is simply the product of bile and hatred. Any visit to Israel and inquisitive inspection will give the average person a clue, namely except for those wearing obvious attire which denotes their religion, there is no visible difference in the actions of Jews and Arabs no matter the attire. Further inspection will reveal that even those wearing their religion on their sleeves are treated exactly the same. There is no social divide between the average Jew or Arab in Israeli life, culture, law, treatment or social acceptance and standing. This is the dirty little secret that those who hold a deep and personal hatred of the Jewish State, and all too often of Jews in general, is that the entirety of their movement is about hatred of the Jews and has no bearing or truth behind it beyond their desire to discredit the Jewish State because it is Jewish and they must prevent any visitors as just spending a two week vacation traveling around Israel to Jerusalem, Haifa, Netanya (really nice beaches), Tzfat (very nice artwork as many artists reside here), Tiberius (Roman Ruins and other ancient sites and on the Kinneret, Sea of Galilee), Beer Sheva (dessert area and close proximity to Masada and building from the time of Herod the Great, or as I prefer, Herod the not all that great as he was not that nice to those he was supposed to rule and represent) and if you can take a helicopter ride to see Israel from the air you will realize exactly how small Israel is as the helicopter will be constantly banking and anyplace else you will see people going about their daily lives with much more important things to get done than treat anybody with anything other than general acceptance and humanity.

Israeli Defense Forces Seeking Far Horizons Pursuing Lasting Peace Through Eveready Force

Israeli Defense Forces
Seeking Far Horizons
Pursuing Lasting Peace

So, should Israel accept a double standard? Well, not one any more severe than the one we hold ourselves to and that we do hold ourselves to such high standards, it would be nice for an occasional recognition of the fact. We hold the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) as it holds itself to the highest and most professional of standards. These standards are so high that Chairman of the Joints Chief of Staff General Dempsey stated about their practices in the Gaza War:

or an Interview with British officer Colonel Richard Kemp on the Israeli operation in Gaza he stated:

or if you have the time there is the full UN Testimony of Col. Richard Kemp on Gaza Inquiry where he witnessed and stated under considerable pressure to mar the IDF as others had attempted, he told the inquiry:

or listen to a European Union Lawmaker and former reporter who stated despite interruption:

or lastly Lt. Colonel Geoffrey Corn, former United States Army Law of War Expert and Professor of Law at South Texas College of Law witness testimony before the UN Gaza Inquiry where he stated under oath:

All of these experts cannot be simple pawns of the Israeli and part of the mythical Jewish Control the World Conspiracy, can they? Lt. Colonel Geoffrey Corn was witnessing on evidentiary review he carried out into the Gaza War and the criminal charges presumably leveled against the IDF in a trial attempted to be carried out not in a court of law, or even international of United Nations panel for the purpose of holding a public flaying of the only Jewish State by the ‘most ethical dictatorships in the world’ who could be depended on to have made their judgment in the womb but as standing as an impartial judgement of facts over propaganda and was witness before the United Nations on at least two occasions (the other video can be found in our article A Law Whose Time Has Come.

The seeming world-wide efforts to witness Israel into a shame both imagined and underserved which many of these so-called ‘witnesses’ of the ‘known facts’ which are ‘obvious and evident’ to even the ‘most discriminating observer’ after ‘considering the mountains of factual evidence and factual’ commentary, and we left commentary outside of quotes as they are real and exactly that, commentaries often from some of the most blatantly biased and coming from the most dependable of witnesses such as Richard Faulk, Saab Erekat (PA Spokesman and official), Khaled Mashal (Hamas spokesman and officer), and even Justice Richard Goldstone who was hand-picked chairman of the U.N. Gaza Inquiry with the usual wink and a nod as his position was known well ahead of his being selected and even with such a bias he eventually relented that his entire efforts and that of his entire inquiry were decided before their first sitting and could have written the report before hearing the initial first witness and saved the world a two or three thousand trees wasted on the daily coverage in European and American leftist newspapers such as the New York Times castigating Israel and IDF as the most evil and vicious collection of rogues and daemon possessed individuals who were capable of such acts which could not be discussed in polite company. The reason they could not be discussed before polite company was that in such a setting the lies would be exposed, but then these were not polite company and lies were the coin of expressions in the Howled (as in feral dogs over a juicy bone) Halls of the United Nations and all the actions one could expect from such depths of human depravity. The one truth is that the IDF and the UN should seldom be used in similar vein despite too often forced into close proximity but fortunately only in news print and editorials. This is as it should be as they are opposite reputations amongst polite company, otherwise known as those who speak to the truth of their witness because their name and honor are too important to them to sell them to the besmirchers of the world.

The reality is that Israel and the IDF are held to a different and higher set of expectations compared to their peers and gladly accepts this difference and commit each to achieve and surpass even the most lofty of expectations, even if they are often self-imposed. In the IDF any mere hint of impropriety is thoroughly investigated and it has been known and expected for soldiers in the same unit, platoon, squad or weapons system to report even the slightest crossing of the strict rules of war and deportment expected of every member of the IDF. When such bad apples are discovered they are removed from service and more often than not incarcerated for their ill-conceived efforts. Israelis in general and Jews in particular, especially those amongst what is known as the religious Zionists, are expected to live and act morally and aim for the highest heights of moral rectitude and to admit their shortfalls not for shame but as the first step of improvement as no one amongst us is incapable on self-improvement. The highest of expectations are accepted as a challenge we deserve as we aim to be a moral society to which others can look for inspiration and motivation to act morally as Israel is moral and still manages to function and make contributions to the world in virtually every field. The unethical and unequal judgement is another matter, especially as it is so often wielded as a weapon of mass destruction aimed to destroy Israel just for the sake of destruction of the Jewish State. That is unacceptable as Israel sits in a high enough judgements over their actions and moral rectitude and deploring every shortfall where ever found that such is sufficient and outside judgments which are used to defame and not to seek out truth, that is when the unequal treatment, expectations and misuse of the truth simply for the sake of destruction and spite to the Jew, even if that Jew is a multicultural nation where equal treatment of all citizens is the law and fulfilled in all venues and areas of Israeli life. As for the Arab Palestinians, they are citizens of an autonomous region under self-rule and the lack of elections, the most often leveled accusation is Israel will not allow them to vote, is due to Mahmoud Abbas refusal to risk losing his position of power which also provides him with the ability to order the flow of funds, much to his own family and that of his cohorts in despotism.

Is This Obama’s Dangerous Plan for Israel?

At the end of yesterday’s article we opined on the rumors that President Obama has given Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu guarantees that there will be peacekeeping troops placed in the areas which Israel releases for the formation of the Palestinian state in order to prevent terrorist strikes or rockets and mortars being launched into Israel as is done by Hamas out of Gaza. The soldiers manning the peacekeeping forces would come from any of the following; only United States, NATO countries, or even the United Nations. It is likely that Israel would prefer not to depend on either the United Nations or any of the European nations, so such a force will most likely be manned by Americans. We would like to express our distress should these rumors have even one iota of credibility and beseech that no foreign troops be placed in a position where they are presumed to be protecting Israel. The potential for horrific results and of so many ways such a situation could turn out ugly that it would be best to never even tempt fate and disaster so brazenly.

Thinking and researching further on these rumors we came across other ideas of where the Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations may be headed should the talks themselves fail to reach an agreement. Some of this information we gleaned from a number of sources painted a picture that was very distressing. The negotiations which are currently in progress were entered with Prime Minister Netanyahu offering to impose a building freeze over almost all of the West Bank but Palestinian Authority Chairman Abbas refused that offer and instead substituted the demand for the one-hundred-four terrorist prisoners serving life sentences and already having served the longest of Palestinian prisoners to be released in groups as the negotiations proceeded and progress was attained. When Israel agreed after a fair amount of distress and many demonstrations by the Israeli people against such a release of murderous terrorists, especially the relatives of those murdered by these very terrorist prisoners, Netanyahu informed Abbas and the rest of the Palestinian leadership about the imminent announcement of Israeli construction in the settlement blocks which have been agreed since the beginning were to remain under Israeli rule and were part of the land swaps to be formalized through negotiations. So, all the screaming and protesting, posturing and threatening, condemnations and petitioning the world to also condemn Israeli construction plans was a put on act as there was no surprise and they had already approved the Israeli construction. The whole intent of the Palestinian show of rage at the Israeli announcement of new housing was perpetrated in order to draw further condemnations and maybe even stimulate more nations to place Israel under sanctions or other political isolations and restrictions and their plotting worked as planned as the European Union took the opportunity to place an embargo on all Israeli products from the settlement blocks responding to the Palestinian temper tantrum act.

In order to fully understand the end game that President Obama may be planning to execute, one has to understand that President Obama is determined to be the person who forges a Palestinian state and an end to the Arab-Israeli animosities. Another fact that needs to be understood is the entire scheme of the Palestinians from the very outset of the entire Palestinian-Israeli conflict has been to never agree to any solution and continuing the fraud all the while conducting a concentrated, well planned, and well supported propaganda campaign to demonize the Israelis and glorify the idea of the Palestinians as the victims of horrendous treatment under Israeli occupation. The intent the whole while was to take the historic story behind the history of the Jewish people and forge a Palestinian mystique that paralleled the Jews story and use the same ideas right down to using some of the same terms such as the “Right of Return”. The end target the Palestinians are seeking is to have forced mediation and settlement from the United Nations with the Security Council using Article 33 through 37 of the United Nations Charter. One more part of the Palestinians plans is to, as much as possible, have the Israelis treated as the obstacle to finding a peace agreement which they have depended on two main items, first that as they have shown a resolute refusal to bend in even the slightest manner that nobody bothers to place any demands on the Palestinian forcing all compromises to be forced out of the Israelis, and second they have depended on the historic suspicions of the Jewish people and anti-Semitism especially amongst the Muslim world and the Europeans as well as many on the extreme left politically. Using this multi-front attack the Palestinians have managed to successfully attain most of their targets to a sufficient amount that the only thing left for them to accomplish is to convert the United States leadership to turn against Israel in the Security Council and allow for the United Nations and the rest of the world in support force a solution on Israel which grants the Palestinians everything they could ever have asked for.

This target may be within sight, or at worst just around the corner. Secretary of State Kerry and President Obama have both been pressing Prime Minister Netanyahu stressing the point that should these last gasp attempts not produce a peace between Israel and the Palestinians with the formation of Palestine to the Palestinians’ satisfaction then Israel may just find themselves completely isolated and friendless amongst the nations of the world. This has been the reason and message behind the constant repetition that there is a limited window of opportunity for peace to be negotiated. The critically important phrase is ‘limited window’ as it implies that should these negotiations fail, then there is no longer any way of reaching a peace through negotiations. If negotiations can be declared defunct and useless to pursue any further, then the only way to solve such a situation is where the United Nations Charter sets out the requirements and the steps in order to impose an equitable peace as determined by mediation by the United Nations. President Obama had made references to the potential need to impose a peace on the Palestinian-Israeli situation in some talks he held during his first term with some of the Arab rulers and also with Abbas. Add to that, Abbas has made mention of the approaching situation where it may be necessitated to impose a peace agreement on Israel by a coming together of the world to solve this otherwise intractable problem.

So, exactly how would things proceed if the end result being aimed for is a solution by agreement or imposition or however it turns out is required? These negotiations will reach close to their nine-month time limit with no complete resolution attained but with some progress has been attained as there is a requirement for progress in order for the Palestinian terrorist murderers to be released by Israel. The ninth month arrives without any treaty so there is a call to make one last six-month push as the two sides are so close. As per usual, the Palestinians refuse to return to continue the negotiations holding out until some preconditional demand or two are forced out of the Israelis. The likely demand will be for the continuation of the Palestinian terrorist prisoner release likely leading to virtually every terrorist is freed and of course there would now be the call for a building freeze and finally there might be a possible demand for Israel to remove some of the Israelis in the furthest settlements that exist in Area B. After six weeks of strenuous and exhausting negotiations with Secretary of State Kerry making two a week trips to the Middle East or at least somebody from the State Department or Defense Department and possibly a guarantee of sale of some desired weapons for the Israelis and the negotiations recommence. The six weeks pass and instead of progress even things that had been resolved during the nine-month negotiations are no longer settled as the Palestinians go back on agreements and then claim the Israelis have been dealing deceitfully and misrepresenting what was already agreed to because they are refusing to meet their obligations. This is a repeat of previous acts performed by Abbas and by Yasser Arafat before him. When everything blows up with Abbas and Erekat both storming from the negotiations and holding a well-polished and fully practiced press conference where they denounce the Israelis for deceitful negotiating methods, relenting on agreements and every other possible sin one can commit breaking any good-faith negotiations. The mainstream world media runs headlines for a week denouncing Israel for blowing up any hope for peace and then comes the trip by Abbas to the United Nations demanding that the Security Council recognize Palestine and force Israel to comply with their obligations. This time the United States abstains rather than using their veto and the rest is, as they say, obvious. The world turns their forces towards Israel and the entirety of the world, with possibly a few exceptions, all scramble to provide troops to assist the Palestinians in cleansing their territory of any Israeli presence and forcing Israel to retreat at best back to the 1949 Armistice Lines and who knows what could be worse. One must remember that there have been votes taken in the General Assembly of the United Nations where Zionism was equated with Racism and another time to repeal the November 1948 Partition Plan which led to the declaration establishing the state of Israel the following May 14, 1949. What would prevent the United Nations from deciding to replace Israel with the state called Palestine rather than merely forming Palestine alongside Israel?

Women in Combat, the United States Joins the World

Secretary of Defense Panetta told the press and the world that the United States ban on women in combat was to be terminated and now all military positions and MOS are now available to all regardless of gender. There were the expected gasps and exclamations predicting the end of the military as we have known it. Others congratulated the United States for finally joining the modern world and recognizing that women are equal to men and should be allowed entrance into all fields, especially those provincially thought to be the providence of men. We would like to make a bold prediction. There will be very few women lining up to enter into combat arms and of those who take that route the majority will decide it is not worth the effort demanded. There will not be an end to the world or the military as we know them and everything will continue on with barely a ripple. Oh, sure there will be a great din from the extremes still fighting the same battle over the wisdom of allowing women into combat arms, except the sides will have changed. Now it will be those who once argued against the status quo defending it and vice-versa. The only question left to answer is what will happen should the United States become involved in a war with women on the front lines?

The answer to that question has actually already been answered. Does anybody remember Jessica Lynch? Not how her story turned tragic, but the initial shock and reaction to her being taken captive in Iraq. Suddenly Jessica Lynch became the most important captive in the entire Iraq War. The rescue of Private Lynch became the highest priority for the military, the press and pretty much the entire country if not the world, or at least much of it. Special Forces went into high gear with planning and executing a plan without taking six months to do practice runs, or even six days. We heard all about the valiant Private Lynch who fought off as long as she could finally going down with serious injuries to which she finally succumbed allowing her capture. It was the makings of a Hollywood blockbuster. There was even a movie made based on the theme of her resistance and capture. Then something really terrible happened, the truth. The truth sparked outrage and hearings in Congress where Private Lynch explained she never fired her weapon or put up any resistance or even knew any of the events. It turn out she was knocked unconscious when her truck wrecked and woke up captured. The whole house of cards collapsed and the brave woman fighting as bravely just like a man or even better was borne out as the lie it was. The arguments that Private Lynch’s heroic stance was proof that women could stand in combat just as strong and steady as any man also fell apart with the rest of the myth that was sold to the public.

The United States nearly fell apart over one woman caught by the freak instance, something which could become more prevalent with women in combat roles, so what happens when such is reported regularly on the nightly news. My question is what would happen should a battle go poorly and a fair number, say four or five, women be captured. Then what will happen when the press reports this incident? The truth about women being placed on the front lines is not the real question which ever needed to be answered. The real question is how will the United States public react when women are captured or worse, come home in numbers in caskets? Are the people of the United States ready when such occurrences become a common part of future conflicts? Whether or not women can perform in a combat role has never been the question. Even what affect women fighting and possibly dying or being captured will have on their male comrades was not the question. The training and daily rigors of being in a combat unit will weed out any women not physically strong or mentally capable of thriving or even barely surviving in a combat role. Thirty mile forced marches and the other physical and mental requirements which are a part of every year’s training along with the daily runs, calisthenics, weapons training, weapons maintenance and the rest of the rigors involved with being in a front line unit will weed out those who find such to be beyond what they are willing to do.

There are reasonable questions about unit cohesion and the possibilities of relation between soldiers within units are another angle which will produce problems which will need to be addressed. Such problems will not be as difficult as those faced since the change of the policy regarding homosexuals allowing them to serve openly. Any problem that has been predicted to result from women in a combat unit are not as critical as they have been made out to be and likely already there are procedures on how to handle them which can be adopted from other units which have had women and men serving together, even in the field, for as long as we have had a standing military. The military is not where the problem will lie as the one thing the military is adept at it is solving problems and taking care of those who do not follow the rules. The military has procedures, rules, regulations, and all that any organization could ever need to cover any situation which might crop up. It’s the civilians that are the largest potential for problems as we are not under any strict regimentation and stringent codes of conduct, nor are we used to the kind of environment which the military is at its most efficient. We need not concern ourselves with how the military will operate and adjust to women serving in combat units and on the front lines as the military will take it all in stride, write a few more rules, establish some new customs, and then march off to take care of business because that is what the military does. As long as we, the civilians, can give them our support or at least stay out of their way, then the military will take care and adjust to women within their combat ranks just as they have handled every other change societies have been placing upon their shoulders since before Thermopylae. So, hopefully we can have people stop claiming that the military will have big problems when what we really mean is that many in the public will have big problems adjusting and accepting women serving in front line combat units.
