My Sympathies and Concerns for My Tel Aviv Brethren

Like all Israelis and Jews worldwide, my sympathies go out to family, friends and those who knew the young soldier mercilessly murdered at a Tel Aviv train station just as they go out to the family, friends and those who know the innocent young lady mercilessly slaughtered at a ride-stop located in Gush Etzion, which is within Samaria. Both of these young Israelis who represented the epitome and strength of the hopes of a nation and their people will be avenged and their lives celebrated by the continued persistence and eventual vindication and liberation of all of our sacred homelands. There was one disturbing item about the reactions of some to these two related and identical threats to the Israeli people and nation. That was the appearance of initiations that these two deaths were somehow different and that the soldier being murdered in Tel Aviv was somehow a greater threat to Israel than the other which occurred beyond the 1949 Armistice Line and thus was just one of those events which we must suffer because of the ‘occupation’. Truth be told, the Palestinians are no different than the Egyptian, Jordanian, Syrian or Iraqi peoples as they are all Arabs with the same culture, language, religions, lineage and histories and the idea of a separate peoples known as the Palestinians did not come into existence until 1964 when they were manufactured out of whole cloth. One does not have to believe me as the following quotes will show.

First Quote) In a March 1977 interview in the Dutch newspaper Trouw, Zahir Muhsein, a member of the PLO executive committee, admitted, “The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct ‘Palestinian people’ to oppose Zionism.
For tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa, while as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan.”

Second Quote) Auni BeyAbdul-Hadi told the Peel Commission in 1937. “There is no such country as ‘Palestine’; ‘Palestine’ is a term the Zionists invented!”

That put aside, there is no reason for any Israeli, or any Jew for that matter, to place any iota of a difference between Israelis within or outside the 1949 Armistice Line as it is only the demand that any future Palestinian state the Arabs manage to wrest from the body of Israel be free from any Jewish presence that makes the existence of Jews beyond that line of any importance. Further, if one takes the Palestinian stated intentions at the continuously expressed word then Tel Aviv is just as much a part of ‘occupied Palestine’ as is all the lands of Judea and Samaria. It is their definition of all the lands from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea as being all of ‘occupied Palestine’ that makes everything within that definition, and not just Judea and Samaria, part of their reason for violence and terror war against Israel and why Mahmoud Abbas and every other Palestinian leader refuse to agree that any peace accord made with Israel, despite it granting them lands for their presumed purpose of self-determination and independence, will signify an end to their violence and acts of terror in making war on Israel until the entirety of their lands are liberated. It also does not matter to them that the only truly occupied lands do consist of Judea and Samaria and are occupied by them just as it was occupied previously by Jordan and not only do the Palestinian leadership understand that truth, as do the rest of the Arab leadership, the rest of the Muslim leadership, the whole of the European leadership, the whole of the United States leadership, the whole of the Canadian leadership (and at least their government acts on that knowledge and for which I would like to thank them as they deserve the thanks from every Israeli, Jew and lover of Israel), the whole of the United Nations (including all of its various tentacle agencies, courts, conferences, rapporteurs, committees, and other entities) and the majority of educated people worldwide. The sole reason that this exceedingly established set of facts does not quiet the arguments for the liberation of the ‘Palestinian homelands’ is due to the overriding desire to undo what so many, especially the European powers who attended and ratified the San Remo Conference findings and conclusions, across the globe believe to be the greatest error in judgment ever committed by seemingly intelligent people when they made the promise in treaty and obligation to return the ancient lands of the Jewish People to its rightful owners with particular attention to the established fact that between the time of the Roman dispersal of the leaders and armed Hebrews to the ends of their empire to the present time no nation had ever claimed these particular lands to be their sovereign lands nor had any nation or interest named Jerusalem to be their capital city. That is the ugly little and unspoken secret at the heart of the entire effort to make a ‘Palestinian state’ out of the body and ancient heartlands of the Jewish People. This also makes Tel Aviv just as much of ‘occupied Palestine’ as it does Hevron, Shechem (aka Nablus), Beit-El and all of the rest of the lands of Judea and Samaria (aka West Bank, the name given these lands by Jordan when annexing them to remove their traditional and Jewish related original and historic names) are despite the apparent desire by some in Tel Aviv to try and differentiate between those places outside the 1949 Armistice Lines (the Palestinian plans step one) and those lands within the 1949 Armistice Lines (the Palestinian step two) with nary a real difference should the Palestinians ever achieve their true goals.

Additionally, there is another truth which is often ignored between times when the northern border of Israel is seemingly relatively quiet with only the occasional disturbance such as exchanges of fire between the two sides, an explosive device being detonated in attempts to murder IDF or other passing Israeli vehicles or the probing infiltrations testing the IDF response times and severity. This truth is the claims by Hassan Nasrallah and other Hezballah spokespersons that the Galilee is an area which Hezballah is capable of taking with a minimum of effort and that the IDF is incapable of preventing as the Galilee is presumably part of Lebanon and also rightfully the southern lands of Syria of which Lebanon is only an autonomous part. This claim to the Galilee is identical to the claims to all of Israel by the Palestinians, completely false and attributable to titles granted the regions between Turkey and Egypt. These general names for this land mass include but are not limited to Syria, Greater Syria, Syrian Province, Judea, Israel, Samaria, Transjordan, Jordan, Palaestina (Roman name mistaken pronunciation of the Jews main historic enemies, the Philistines), Assyria, and Canaan as well as simply being a province within such empires as Babylon, Greek, Roman, Persian, Ottoman, Zengid, Hamdanid, Byzantine, British, French, Egypt, Hittite, Mongol and Caliphate. Despite all of these empires and names given this small area in the Middle East, only the Jews ever claimed Jerusalem as their capital city which was true even under the title of Judea. Despite the historic facts, the leader of Hezballah, Hassan Nasrallah, has made claims and restated his claim recently for the annexation of the Galilee by right of military conquest to the fertile valley of the Galilee once his forces have routed the Israelis. Needless to say, the real target of Nasrallah is not simply the Galilee but to all of Israel even to include the areas currently under semiautonomous control of the Palestinian Authority and probably Gaza from Hamas as well. Before anyone attempts to correct my mention of Gaza being under the rule of Hamas and claiming it is under the unity government of the Palestinians, we all know it is ruled by Hamas and that should Mahmoud Abbas or any other Palestinian Authority leader or member desire to leave the comfort of Ramallah and visit Gaza they would need to procure the permission from the previous Hamas leaders, particularly Ismail Haniyeh, or face a death sentence and summary execution without even the semblance of a trial. Should Nasrallah once again attack across the Israel-Lebanon border, his aims would not be solely to subsume the Galilee region but to also take Jerusalem, the Negev Desert and even Tel Aviv. No Arab or Muslim force which managed to gain the advantage and defeat the IDF would stop at the Tel Aviv city limits and say, oh, wait, this is Tel Aviv which is completely separate and different from the West Bank, Galilee, Negev and every other part of Israel, it is the one place in the whole universe which is recognized as belonging to the Jews and we have no prior or false claim to which we can point as to why it does not belong to Jews so we had better leave it alone. Believe it or not, Tel Aviv in not inviolable and distinct from the rest of the lands claimed not to belong to the Jews, it is just as much a target as the rest of Israel, even my little corner here on the coast of the Galilee. We should and must mourn and defend to the best of our abilities every Israeli, be they Jewish, Arab, Muslim, Christian, Baha’i, Buddhist or other religion or identifiable origin or, as Benjamin Franklin warned the Continental Congress at the signing of the Declaration of Independence, “We must hang together, gentlemen…else, we shall most assuredly hang separately.” It applies to all of us within Israel, we too must hang together or we will hang separately.

Is Netanyahu About to Pull an Ariel Sharon?

Since the very first day after Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu accepted as the first party into his current coalition the Hatnuah Party and placed its leader Tzipi Livni as the new government’s Minister of Justice and placed Ms. Livni as the lead negotiator of the Israeli negotiations team with the Palestinians, I have had a creeping suspicion that Netanyahu was going to fall on his sword in order to satisfy President Obama and allow anything to be bargained away if it produced a treaty. What made things even worse, Netanyahu announced that she would have complete freedom and full latitude to do whatever she believed was necessary to reach a peace agreement with the Palestinians in the model of the two state solution. The presumed safety catch that would limit anything that Minister of the Knesset Livni may eventually give away was presumably that there would have to be a Knesset vote to ratify any potential treaty and then if particular lands given away met the criteria, then there would also be a referendum of the Israeli people to decide whether or not any treaty would be accepted and ratified. But even here there are some suspicions and recent events and announcements have only served to deepen my qualms that all is not well in Jerusalem.

Before we theorize on the future and what we believe are the signs we will need to be on the lookout for and where such paths lead, perhaps we should review some of the most pertinent facts from the Gaza disengagement fiasco and what the steps were the last time such events transpired. The first item was that the President of the United States was George W. Bush who was perceived to be a good friend of Israel and one who, while not perfect, at least was not going out of his way to destroy and compromise Israel. The Secretary of State was Condoleezza Rice, who despite her misconceptions and misgivings such as believing the Palestinians were being persecuted in a similar manner to the Black Americans during the Jim Crow era; despite her idiosyncrasies, Secretary Rice honestly thought she was working towards a good end and really pursued peace and a better future for all, both the Palestinians and the Israelis; and despite their intents, the Bush Administration fell into a number of traps which doomed their efforts we can claim with some assurance as to its validity that they had honest and good intentions. Their first misstep was their decision to force Prime Minister Ariel Sharon into disengaging all Israeli presence from the Gaza Strip and turning it over to Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinians presumably so that the Palestinian leadership could demonstrate their abilities to rule and manage their own areas and live at peace alongside the Israelis. The thought was that once the Palestinian leadership had proved to administrate the Gaza Strip while preventing any terrorist attacks on Israelis or their territories, then the final formation of a Palestinian State could proceed without any further problems.

The next set of problems followed rapidly one on top of the next. President Bush gave Prime Minister Sharon guarantees that after Israel had released their control over the border areas between Egypt and Gaza, also known as the Philadelphia Corridor, that the European Union monitors and real-time remote video monitoring by Israeli security experts would prevent the movement of weaponry into Gaza as well as monitoring the passage of people interdicting any suspected terrorists. Soon thereafter it was time for the Palestinian government to hold elections. Big mistake number two was cued up as Secretary of State Rice insisted, with the backing of President Bush, that all factions be permitted to field candidates for the Palestinian Parliament, of course including Hamas. Despite warnings from Israel, Mahmoud Abbas, and numerous Middle East experts who warned that allowing Hamas to field candidates would guarantee that Hamas would take the majority of the seats and rise to unseat Fatah as the majority in the Palestinian Authority, the elections were held allowing Hamas candidates who won a majority of the seats as the Palestinians voted for anybody but Fatah as they perceived that Hamas would not commit fraud anywhere near the levels which had been rampant to date in the Palestinian Authority. The Hamas victory scared the living daylights out of Abbas who feeling certain that Hamas would also replace him as President and Chairman of the Palestinian Authority forcing him to cancel elections for these offices in order to preserve his positions. The Americans saw no problem with this as the overwhelming Hamas sweep in the Palestinian parliamentary elections had shaken their trust that they understood the Palestinian’s moods and proclivities. Soon the worst of the disasters that followed one after another came to fruition as Hamas executed a violent coup and took complete control over the Gaza Strip forcing Fatah and their portion of the Palestinian Authority from Gaza to Judea and Samaria, the West Bank. With Hamas in control of the Gaza Strip, the European Union monitors made a quick retreat from their posts back to their hotels in Israel never to return to their posts after which the Hamas personnel who took control of the Rafah Crossing destroyed the video monitoring equipment. This forced Israel to rely on the good graces of Egypt to monitor the Egypt-Gaza interchange which fortunately was more successful than one might have originally expected. As it turned out, the Egyptians had issues with Hamas as Hamas was directly tied to the Muslim Brotherhood which gave Egyptian President Mubarak reasons to be suspicious and to actually monitor the border.

Today the President of the United States Barack Obama is considered not exactly a trusted friend to Israel and some of the members of his Administration are equally not to be trusted by Israel. Some of those who cause both politicians and residents in Israel the most qualms would include Secretary of State John Kerry, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, National Security Adviser Susan Rice, United Nations Ambassador Samantha Power and some might add Vice President Biden though his record is not as adverse as others are. As anyone who has been watching the news out of Israel and the Palestinian areas has noted, the negotiations have been reinstated but at considerable cost to the Israelis who were cajoled and pressed into releasing over the period of the negotiations up to one-hundred-four terrorists who were serving life sentences, some multiple life sentences, and had much Israeli blood on their hands in order to entice and give proper cover for Mahmoud Abbas to agree to negotiate. Of course Israel only received the privilege of holding talks for their unprecedented concessions. Even with such a sacrifice by the Israelis in releasing many terrorists whom they had refused to release numerous times before, this momentous gesture was challenged by the Palestinian leadership who demanded even more. They demanded that the borders for their state be debated from the standpoint that they were to be assumed to be starting on the 1949 Armistice Lines and included every inch of the contested areas of Judea and Samaria plus they insisted they include all of Eastern Jerusalem including all of the Old City and Temple Mount. Israel refused to grant such a request but it has been leaked that Secretary of State Kerry assured Abbas that he would steer any discussion over borders in a direction that would meet his demand. Then, almost immediately after the first meeting when the Israelis announced their intention to build housing in parts of Jerusalem and the surrounding Israeli towns which the Palestinians claim is on their lands the Palestinians threatened to terminate the negotiations unless the Israelis instituted a building freeze immediately and were prevented from realizing such plans. This fortunately blew up in their faces as Secretary Kerry, to his credit, announced that the Palestinians had been offered a building freeze but had chosen the prisoner release instead and that they had been informed that such an announcement of the building was coming within the near future and they had not objected at that time. This squelched their threat to end the negotiations.

The negotiations are supposed to be held in complete silence with nothing to be released to the press or announced in any other manner. Thus far that criterion has unfortunately held. The first sign that trouble is on the horizon came this week when Shelly Yachimovich announced that the Labor Party is ready, willing and very able if not anxious to replace Bayit Yehudi and Naftali Bennett in order to assure that any treaty will be enacted without any difficulties. Here are some of the signs that we need to look for in the coming months of this presumably nine-month series of negotiations which are to produce a workable treaty. There will be meetings out of which there will be no announcements or release to the press held by Prime Minister Netanyahu with his inner cabinet, the same people who voted to allow the release of the hundred plus terrorists. Lead negotiator Tzipi Livni will be noticeable at each of these meetings and may even appear to have a spring in her step and a bright smile that refuses to droop. Eventually there will be disagreements which at some point will lead to a rearrangement of the makeup of the coalition. We will begin to hear rumors that Naftali Bennett and his Bayit Yehudi are being marginalized and may soon be replaced in the coalition. At the same time it is possible that Yair Lapid and the Yesh Atid Party may also be mentioned as inhibiting certain objectives and may join Bennett in being replaced in the coalition. The new coalition will replace these two Zionist parties with Shas and Labor both of whom will willingly and enthusiastically approve virtually any peace agreement hammered out by Tzipi Livni and Saeb Erekat.

Many people would claim that this would not make any difference as any peace treaty if it requires surrender of any sizeable amount of territories must face a referendum of the people and the Israelis would never allow Jerusalem to be divided or for all of the lands beyond the Green Line to be forfeited to the Palestinians. The problem here is the wording as I have been led to understand is rather vague on which lands being forfeit would require a referendum by the people. The last item which will signal an imminent disaster will be the start of a debate in the United States over providing peacekeeping troops to be placed in the new Palestinian State to prevent terrorist attacks and keep everything quiet between the new Palestinian State and Israel. Needless to point out that the American peacekeepers will provide little protection and instead simply provide the terrorists a plethora of targets until they are pulled due to overwhelming demands by the Americans themselves as their ire is raised over mounting casualties. Once we get to the point that there are debates in the United States over providing peacekeepers the only salvation which Israelis may pray for is either the American public raising a holy eruption of indignation that prevents President Obama from following through with his promise to provide peacekeepers or for Heavenly intervention. My prayers will be for Heavenly intervention.

Prisoner Release to Appease Palestinians Actually Disgraceful Threat to Israelis

Much of the information being publicized by all parties about the resumption of the Palestinian-Israeli Peace Process is confusing, contradictory, highly politicized plus causing great amount of agonized and vehement confrontations between the Israeli public and Prime Minister Netanyahu and his inner cabinet supporters. The many fronts of contention are almost too many to comprehend but the main points of controversy are over the Palestinian claim that the invitation to the talks lists agreement on using the 1949 Armistice Lines as basic definition for borders, the Palestinian claim that the start of negotiation will force an Israeli building freeze and worst of all, the hundred plus Palestinians who are to be released as a concessionary gift to Mahmoud Abbas just for the privilege of having him agree to attend talks at all. If one were to look for any bright side of this situation for the Israeli public it would have to be that at least there has not been any mention of the so-called Palestinian right of return. We can probably bet that that will remain as the final demand that will be used in order to force the Israelis to terminate any possibility for an agreement as they cannot accept such a demand and remain the Jewish State therefore Abbas can exit the negotiations and still claim he was willing to make peace if only the Israelis would have granted his one last insignificant point. Of course we all know that the right of return is anything but an insignificant point as it would mean the death knell of Israel as the Jewish State, but that will not prevent much of the world’s mainstream media from quoting Abbas and giving their whole-hearted support to the claim that Israel was being intransigent. Then everybody can return to holding their Naqba Day celebrations; their BDS boycotts, disengagements and sanctions; their Israel Apartheid Day celebrations, the United Nations annual November 29th celebrations for International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People; their Friday demonstrations taunting IDF checkpoints, Israeli towns in Judea and Samaria, Separation Fence protests; and very likely start the Third Intifada with an all-out assault on Jews north to south from Eilat to the Golan Heights and east to west from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea. And we can then expect to read all about the abuses Israel will commit when they have to defend their citizens from the Third Intifada onslaught after duly showing restraint well beyond any other nation’s breaking-point on civil unrest. Those of us who follow the facts and not the popular opinions from the United Nations, the mainstream media, and the perpetual demonstrators who protest anything which stands for Western values or based on the Judeo-Christian principles labeling them as Capitalist Oppressors, Colonialist Powers, Xenophobic Zealots, Proponents of Islamophobia or simply Enslavers and Exploiters of Minorities and People of Color. But what are the actual provisions that are drawing such ire from many Israelis?

The best way to address the situation is to take each contentious issue one at a time. First off, let’s look into the issue of using the 1949 Armistice Lines, also called the 1967 Lines, as the base border from which small alterations will be allowed providing that both sides agree to the exchanges proposed. The first recognition has to be that this is claimed as a given starting point thus far only by Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas while neither, as Abbas claims, United States Secretary of State John Kerry or Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu have supported this position. Factually, Prime Minister Netanyahu has directly denied that this was part of the agreement while there has yet to be any comment from Secretary Kerry. A recent poll of Israelis revealed that over eighty-five percent would vote against ratifying any peace agreement which utilized the 1949 Armistice Lines as the basis for the border between Israel and the Palestinian State. The problem with these borders is that weather permitting one can see all of the middle section of Israel all the way to the Mediterranean Sea which places seventy percent of Israel’s population, industry and vital infrastructure within range of the most rudimentary of rockets and permits those launching said rockets to have spotter, or even observe themselves, able to see the actual impact as it happens and thus makes adjusting fire both much easier and far more accurate. These borders place Tel Aviv, Haifa, Netanya, Ashod, Ashkelon, Beersheba, and among the others, especially Jerusalem all within direct line of sight from the top of the Judean Hills. This is merely the logistical argument against permitting such borders to be considered but as long as Benyamin Netanyahu remains true to his word and allows for the people of Israel to approve or negate any agreement before it is signed and validated, then such borders have little to absolutely no possibility of being accepted by the people of Israel. So, the referendum will preserve Israel from such a fool’s fate even should Prime Minister Netanyahu agree to show such an agreement to the people.

But what about the building freeze? The easy out of such rumors would be to simply quote Bibi’s pronouncement that he plans to approve over one-thousand tenders for new housing in east Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria. Of course we all know by this he means only in Jerusalem and the approved main block of communities and not those wild outposts such as Yitzhar, Itamar, Tapuach or the other ones out in the extremities, as they wish them to be considered. What ever happened to the original idea under United Nations Security Council Resolution 242 and allowing Israel to annex sufficient lands to provide her with defendable borders? As I recall those dizzying days in June, July, and on through till the end of November when finally on November 22 came the edict that Israel should return the majority or at least a significant amount of the lands gained in defending against the war brought on by the massing of troops from Egypt and Syria on her border, the closing of the Straights of Tiran, a casus belli in its own rights, and the entering the war by Jordan a couple of hours after the start on the advice from Egypt’s Gamal Abdel Nasser reporting to Jordan’s King Hussein that they were making advances on the Israelis and that the planes picked up on Jordanian radar were flights of Egyptian planes heading to destroy Israeli targets. The truth was the Egyptian and Syrians were retreating on all fronts and the radar images were returning Israel aircraft on their way home after decimating Egypt’s air power. End result was Israel gained the Sinai, Golan Heights and West Bank and has already returned over ninety percent of these to Arab hands making whatever is left, namely the Golan Heights, Judea and Samaria legally retainable by Israel and that is the real international law. But any building freeze could be employed even while approving new tenders for additional housing as a building freeze is not about approving plans; it is about actual breaking ground and erecting buildings. As for whether Prime Minister Netanyahu will put in a fix that denies actually building while simply going through the motions in order to appear to be building and not enforcing a freeze, well, we will have to wait and see. That would be a question best put to the different ministers and bureaucrats who control the actual building and licensing thus doing actual research to find such an answer. We should know for sure one way or the other within a couple of weeks simply by observing if any further building is still being erected or if all projects come to a halt.

Now for the unfortunate matter of releasing prisoners which was approved by the Prime Minister’s hand-picked Inner Cabinet who were chosen for their inability to refuse the Prime Minister anything he desires. Say what you like about Bibi, he does know how to enforce his own decisions and do so with the appearance of a greater agreement from the government even if one does not exist. We will never know whether or not the entire Knesset would have allowed the prisoner release to go forward or would have stood on principle and prevented such lunacy. If there was a valid reason for permitting these terrorist masters, some of the worst of the worst, to be freed, it would have to be proven that by committing this act there were believable guarantees that the coming negotiations would produce a final end and enforceable and lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinians and all the rest of the Arab League nations. That does not appear to be what was promised in this case. What it appears was promised for releasing over one hundred terror planners, coordinators, trainers, bomb-makers and other nefarious and destructive individuals is that Mahmoud Abbas will allow negotiations to be carried out with the Israelis and allow such negotiations to continue for as long as Israel is being successfully squeezed into making more sacrifices and concessions and once Mahmoud Abbas believes he has gotten everything he will be able to pry loose without having to promise anything beyond worlds and false promises not intended to be kept, then he will walk away from the negotiations complaining of Israeli intransigence and hold a press conference where he will berate Israel for being immovable and unwilling to make the necessary sacrifices for peace and refusing to even consider the most basic and necessary compromises for peace. He will complain how he had made serious, deep reaching and heart wrenching sacrifices and offered the Israelis an opportunity to reach a fair and decent peace and he was rebuffed and turned away. The mainstream press in Europe, the United States, the Arab and Muslim worlds and nearly everywhere else even to include Haaretz and other Israeli news sources will repeat verbatim Abbas’s complaints and fabrications and then after a week of constant berating of Israel over the failure of the talks to reach a peace agreement, then they will interview Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu asking him why it was that he refused to give the Palestinians even the slightest requests and why was it that Israel had again squandered another golden opportunity to meet Abbas, who has done so much and sacrificed so completely and desires nothing more than making a good and solid peace, and take the necessary steps to assure that peace was accomplished. This may not be what was advertised, but it is the coming result.

Please Prime Minister Netanyahu, before even going to the first meeting hold a press conference and present your plan of what an equal and fair peace would look like. Spell out exactly what you are prepared to sacrifice in order to attain peace. Spell out in the most minute details exactly what you desire from the Palestinians and what you are willing to give them in exchange for their cooperation to make a final and just peace. For once get out in front of the propaganda that Abbas will try to spread once he has carved out his most desirous concessions from the coming negotiations. Tell the world up front what are the explicit aims, desires, wants and requirements Israel places on the coming negotiations. Stop with the Israel is ready to make peace song and dance you produce in almost every interview over the peace process. State boldly, explicitly and unapologetically Israeli expectations, requirements and desires in concrete and measurable absolutes such that there are no doubts as to where Israel stands and what Israel expects. The world knows exactly what Abbas keeps telling them that Israel refuses to meet him in making peace but nobody has ever explained to the world exactly what defines acceptable for Israel when compromises are required to make peace. No more general terminology and political maneuvers. Just spell out exactly where you and thus Israel stands and is willing to accept, willing to sacrifice, and insistent on receiving and then simply stand your ground. Yes, the United States is going to try and assist Mahmoud Abbas in his attempts to rake every last ounce of flesh off the body that is Israel. Stand up to them and tell Secretary Kerry and President Obama that you will not bend before their demands and pressures as you are their equal if not their better. Tell the United States spokesperson that you are not going to bend before their pressures and that if they believe they have the better of Israel because they can withhold American aid, then tell them that Israel survived very well without their aid for the first twenty years and three wars and that the main reason that the United States started to give Israel military aid was in order to prevent Israel from manufacturing their own weapons systems which would have competed very successfully against American made weapons on the international markets. And if they decide to call your presumed bluff, then I guess Israel will simply have to start to sell their own military products on the world stage and it is highly probable that Israeli weapons systems will outsell all competitors the same as Israeli UAVs (Unmanned Arial Vehicles) are preferred over everybody else’s products. Remember, the United States original offer to Israel was they would provide Israel with F-15 and F-16 fighter jets at a highly reduced and favorable price even including Israeli modifications when requested as long as Israel stopped their work on the Lavi 4th generation fighter jet. Perhaps a little nudge and a reminder will make your position more tenable and much more clear to Secretary Kerry and all bets are that it would be made very clear by United States Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel along with the designers and board members of Boeing, McDonald Douglas, Raytheon, General Electric and Grumman as they probably would prefer to forgo the competition. Try taking the bull by the horns and proudly present the Israeli side and stand by them in strength and you might just reap some surprising results Mr. Prime Minister.

One final footnote, these are the names and results of the Prime Minister’s Cabinet voting on approving the release of the one-hundred-four of the most notorious and dastardly terrorist prisoners ever released at one time, even compared to those released in order to attains freedom for Gilad Shalit. Perhaps this could have been made less painful but expecting the United States to release Jonathan Pollard as compensation for what Israel has agreed to authorize mostly under pressure from the United States may have been expecting too much humanity from the administration of President Obama. Voting in favor with Prime Minister Netanyahu were Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon, Minister of Interior Gideon Saar, Minister of Public Security Yitzhak Aharonovich, Minister for Strategic Affairs Yuval Steinitz, and Aliyah Minister Sofa Landver (Likud / Yisrael Beytenu); Finance Minister Yair Lapid, Education Minister Shai Piron, Health Minister Yael German, Science Minister Yaakov Perry and Welfare Minister Meir Cohen, (Yesh Atid); as well as Justice Minister Tzipi Livni, and Environment Minister Amir Peretz (Hatnua). Voting against the prisoner release were Transport Minister Yisrael Katz, Communications Minister Gilad Erdan, Tourism Minister Uzi Landau, and Agriculture Minister Yair Shamir, all (Likud / Yisrael Beytenu); as well as Economics Minister Naftaliu Bennett, Housing Minister Uri Ariel and Minister for Pensioners Uri Orbach, (Bayit Yehudi). And taking the route of simply staying on the sidelines by not casting their vote yea or nay were Energy Minister Silvan Shalom and Culture Minister Limor Livnat, both of Likud / Yisrael Beytenu.
