Must Israel Be Permitted to Deport Migrants?

The Israeli government has announced its intentions to deport thirty-thousand migrants, as they entered Israel serendipitously. The Israeli government claims the migrants are illegally in the country and are not refugees and that it is perfectly safe to return them to their native country or to nations willing to take them if they prefer. These migrants never applied for anything other than employment. They never contacted the Israeli government seeking asylum nor did they ever file any complaint against their home country. Their only reason for choosing Israel was due to the standard of living. We can grant that they did not decide to stay in Egypt for a good reason, Egypt has a habit of executing migrants upon capture, well, unless they are heading for Israel. One can only wonder why the exceptions if not to flood Israel with migrants who do not share the culture or the Jewish faith in order to destroy the Jewish homeland. For all Israel knows, that may also be behind some, or even many, of the Migrants themselves. Virtually all of the migrants come from nations in Africa. The migrants come from Eritrea, Sudan, Kenya and other sub-Saharan African nations. They are to be deported to Uganda and possibly Rwanda or African nation of their choice or anywhere on the globe. Israel has reached deals with certain African nations approved by the United Nations as being safe places for these migrants. The migrants in Israel have already been classified as not being true refugees or refugees who can safely be returned to their homelands, in the case of the Sudan, that includes South Sudan, and Eritrea has been removed from the list of dangerous nations. None of the migrants are facing any charges in the nations of origin but Israel still has offered to repatriate them to a different nation of their choice. The Israeli government has announced they will pay each migrant $3,500 (£2,600) as well as purchase their plane ticket back to Africa providing they voluntarily relocate within the next ninety days. Currently, Israel has 38,000 male African migrants who came to Israel looking for better jobs. In addition, there are close to 20,000 more male African migrants who, although they came for the same reason, are married and raising families, as such, are not being asked to leave.

We understand why most of the European NGO’s, nations, the European Union, United Nations and numerous leftists including a number of rabbinical human rights groups all are demanding that Israel give all of these migrants asylum. Despite none having applied for asylum, the world is doing so for them without even asking if these people actually fled for any reason other than financial considerations. Migrant workers are not a new phenomenon and have existed the world over and throughout time. People have drifted from one nation to the next nation seeking better employment and a better life for their families. Throughout history, the migrants often would follow the jobs and when one area dried up they would move on to the next. In more current times, such migrations mostly occurred within national boundaries. In the United States, workers moved from state to state following the jobs. As airconditioning made areas of the United States which had been intolerable in the summer more hospitable, there was a large migration from the north to the new industries in the south where businesses exploded. In many areas within the United States, there is what is known as migrant workers who cross into the United States over the Mexican border during harvest time and are known as agricultural workers. Entire industries have been built around migrant workers. This works very well across the United States, the European Union and other large areas where the populations have enough in common, such that the migrations would not alter the nations demographics. Where migrants cross international borders, they are often granted a work visa for a limited amount of time after which they are required to leave and return to their home nation. This is what is normal but not what many from the left or from those who wish to destroy the Jewish State are demanding here. These forces are demanding that Israel be forced to take in as many foreigners as can find the means to cross their borders, period. Their hope is to destroy the Jewish character of Israel; they want to end Israel once and for all. What the regular, normal and caring people of the world need to understand in order to assist Israel in her life and death struggle against these people and their efforts to destroy the only Jewish nations in Earth is Israel, especially due to being the home for one of the smaller minorities on the planet, must be permitted the same rights as every other nation to deport unwanted illegal entrants.

What many need realize is Israel is very much like Japan and other nations with historic peoples who remained separate from others. Japan has laws preventing non-Japanese from attaining citizenship, Mexico forbids people of foreign birth from owning land, Saudi Arabia refuses to permit non-Muslims from residing within their borders and numerous other nations have similar rules and all nations have rules as to who is permitted and by what means and procedures others may join their club, become new citizens. Israel also has such laws but the world is demanding that Israel ignore her own laws and instead adopt the rules they want them to use which if followed will destroy Israel as the homeland of the Jewish People. The people who support forcing Israel to adopt self-destructive policies and committing national suicide are the most pernicious form of anti-Semitism. The most disheartening of those amongst these groups are the ones claiming their efforts are a response to their Jewishness. These are most often far leftist secular Jews who believe they are performing tikkun olam, repairing the world. What is even more distressing are those calling themselves rabbi who take such views believing that if only Israel shows these migrants how wonderful and generous they are as Jews that the migrants will show gratitude and allow Israel to remain the Jewish homeland. The natives in the New World showed the newly arriving Europeans graciousness and welcomed them onto their continent and shared their food and taught them how to raise the new crops which were strange to the Europeans and we have seen how well that worked for the native populations of the Native American Nations of North, Central and South America. The native people of Australia, best known as the Aboriginal people, also believed that there was plenty of land and that they could share their large Island with the British and we all know how wonderful that turned out. At least some took the side of the Aboriginal people before they were completely exterminated, but much of their culture has been eradicated.

The Jewish People have had a history of persecution and challenges seemingly beyond that of any other peoples on the planet yet are still a distinct and unique peoples. They are the only people to return to their native homelands from two distinct exiles (three if one counts Egypt) and they speak the only language to be brought back from being considered a dead language used only for prayer as is Latin is, but Hebrew is the only language to come back from near two thousand years as an extinct language. The dispersion from which the return to Eretz Yisroel is from the Roman times and was the Roman means of eradicating a peoples from the planet. The only other peoples to have received this treatment were the Carthaginians, a Greek tribe from the Mediterranean rim who are today lost somewhere in history. The Jews and their religion of Judaism were given the same treatment from Rome in 135 A.D. after the second successful revolt against Rome. The Carthaginians received this treatment for having fought Rome in the three Punic Wars. Apparently the two revolting where the Jews successfully expelled Rome all but cutting their land connection to Northern Africa angered Rome greatly and they did not need a third war before casting the Jews to the far corners of the empire and basically for the winds to drive from history. The Jews are a stubborn lot and since we had a secret by which we remained a people, the world is a very different place. The secret which permitted the Jews to survive the Roman dispersion is also their greatest gift to humankind, Torah. The Jews do not own the Holy Lands; they are its keepers and tenders who care for the land which belongs to Hashem. All lands belong to Hashem ultimately but the Promised Lands Hashem keeps unto himself and permits the Jews permission to tend it for Hashem. This is why the lands of Israel apparently only receive steady rainfall and the other necessities for growing crops and supporting life when the Jewish People are the ones residing and tending the lands. This is part of why no other peoples ever claimed the lands or placed their capital city within these lands. Often the area was considered cursed and having been forgotten by the gods of the pagans and even the Crusaders and Caliphate found that the lands did not produce. The lands could be used for trade purposes such as the port city of Akko or the city of Petra but the climate was still considered harsh. At one point an Islamist ruler from Damascus decided to try and use Jerusalem for the Hajj as another sect of Islam blocked their using Mecca, but before the summer had even ended he retreated back to Damascus and declared Damascus as the destination for their Hajj. There has been research which many discount, because accurate, year by year data was never collected, which has claimed that mineral deposits has proven that from the First Century through to the mid to late 1800’s the lands of Israel suffered severe desertification as the once bountiful rains stopped. Then, upon the returning of the Jews through the Zionist movement, the rains began to return until today Israel has become an agricultural miracle and rainfall had reached record levels since 1900 with especially heavy rainfall in 1948 and in 1967 which correlates with the establishment of the nation of Israel and the unification of Jerusalem. There is an old farmer’s tale of a Gaza farmer telling his grandson that when the Jews returned, so did the rainfall. The data appears to back such up. We can tell of times when we joined groups and prayed for rain and within an hour, the rains fell and continued for two, three or more days. Israel is the land of miracles and they appear to be related to the Jews, the Chosen of Hashem.

Israel’s Illegal Immigrant Disaster

The illegal immigration problems in Israel have the identical overt ramifications as any other issue in Israel, namely that the United Nations, Left and far Left NGOs, the European Union and a whole list of foreign nations are all condemning Israel and demanding that Israel give full rights and comforts to these illegal entrants into their country even as much of the rest of the world is deporting the very same peoples who illegally enter their borders. Even putting the double standards aside, there are numerous other problems these unwelcomed invaders are posing purely within Israeli borders. Many of these illegal immigrants originally come from South Sudan, Somalia, Eritrea, Nigeria, Mali, Kenya and other nations throughout Africa with almost all these peoples transverse from three to as many as seven nations, risking death in many such as Egypt where illegal migrants are often shot instead of arrested, in order to reach Israel, their intentionally chosen goal for obvious reasons. There are the obvious problems caused as many of the illegal immigrants have no employment and are even often virtually unemployable as they have little education and do not speak any of the languages commonly found within Israel. This leads to either their living in overcrowded apartments when they are able to arrange to rent living space. Many live on the streets and in bus stations and other public buildings turning them into dangerous and unusable locations. There are also the personal hygiene problems of every conceivable nature which simply add to the difficulties posed to the neighborhoods where the illegal immigrants tend to congregate. There have come to be entire areas such as some parts of Eilat and much of South Tel Aviv, both areas are where the most affordable housing exists and is where many workers from the lower end of the financial ladder reside as well as elderly on fixed incomes and others who cannot afford to live elsewhere. These people now face a situation where by sundown they must already have retreated to their homes and locked themselves inside for their own safety. Women residing in these neighborhoods are not safe going out alone even during the daylight hours and many elderly are too frightened to leave their houses to visit the doctor, purchase their prescriptions or even shop for food as they fear physical assaults from some of the illegal immigrants who own the streets in some areas.

Another side to the problem is the police have not provided sufficient coverage to make the streets safe for people to use and go about their day-to-day lives. The reason this is a problem has a number of facets which include but are not limited to lack of sufficient manpower to patrol all of the areas, fear that unless the police go in force that individual or paired officers do not pose sufficient threat of force and would often be outnumbered facing both superior numbers and able bodied adversaries who would show the officers little or no respect and would fight and resist any actions against them, and then even when the police do arrest or detain groups of these illegal entrants there are liberal leftist NGOs which provide bail and legal representation to them claiming that society owes these illegals a fair break and we need to understand their plight. Needless to point out, these liberal leftists come from neighborhoods where there are no illegal immigrants plaguing their streets threatening the citizens in their neighborhood so placing those from among the illegal community who do get arrested for acts of violence back on the streets poses no threat to the leftist do-gooders.

And that ties into the most troublesome item in the efforts to address the illegal entrants problem. Where the government has finally taken steps to secure the Israel-Sinai border and stem the influx of illegal entrants, the efforts to find solutions for those already in country have not been very effective. The Knesset for its part has passed legislation allowing for the restraining and keeping the illegal entrants in custody while their cases are deliberated and it is decided if they are actual refugees who would face threats to their lives or freedom if returned to their native lands or if they are simply illegal immigrants seeking a better life living in a society which provides them with supposed employment opportunities or where they can live on government support via the societal safety net which was intended for citizens of the nation, not for freeloaders coming from the outside world. Thus far the Israeli Supreme Court has struck down each attempt thus far to address the problems. The current Knesset passed legislation is currently under, or soon will be; challenge by Leftist lawyers whose main aim in life is to make sure that not a single illegal entrant is sent back to their home nation or is inconvenienced in any manner. The reasoning given is that Israel needs to be a nation of refuge for all people who are in need and should forget about the idea and ideals that Israel is and should act as the home of the Jewish People. These far leftists condemn Zionists as narrow minded bigots and agree with Justice Minister Tzipi Livni who recently was quoted claiming, “I want to see a liberal, Zionist Israel, not a conservative, nationalistic one.”

One has to know that when the leftist claim they desire a liberal Zionist Israel they define such as a nation where Jews are welcome as is everybody else and where there is no thoughts of actually defining the State as a Jewish State and where religion, especially Orthodox Judaism, holds no special place and should receive no special treatment. They believe that Israel would be best served if it became a multi-ethnic, multi-religious, socialist state where everybody and every outcome are guaranteed equal by the government and in order to prove that this liberal Israel does not regard Israel as the Jewish state it must denigrate and work against any religious Jewish agendas. This is what is behind a number of other contentious issues such as the demand by the secularists and leftists that the religious Bible studying adults must serve in the military even if that requires them to give up their dedicated Bible studies. It is behind the Women of the Wall fight to demolish the Orthodox hold of the Kotel, the plaza and Western Wall complex, and who demand that the main area be realigned to fit their demands despite the fact that the vast majority of Israelis desire the rules to remain the same. These ladies were even offered an area recently developed close to the main Kotel where they could hold their style of services and practice their form of Judaism but they demand that they be allowed at the main area and the rest of those wishing to follow Orthodoxy should use the somewhat smaller new area despite the fact that these women are a small minority. Even if they should prevail, then the newly renovated and prepared area would become the new central place for Jewish prayer. Would that then cause them to demand that area in the future? My guess is it would be exactly what would happen.

Israel is at a crossroads where her future is on the line; the Leftists recognize this and are in full-fledged panic. They look at the landscape of Judaism in Israel and note that they are rapidly becoming a smaller and smaller minority. They currently hold many of the government positions and have representation beyond their numbers in the courts and are using these cudgels to bludgeon Israeli society to bend to their beliefs and practices. The leftist also realize that despite the billions of dollars being poured into extreme leftist NGOs by the European Union, European governments, and numerous international leftist NGOs that they are facing a desperate situation and within twenty years Israel will more resemble Judea under King David but with a high tech economy and modern conveniences, than a modern, multi-ethnic socialist dream come true. They believe that if they can just push hard enough and get their agendas established that they will be able to make the socialist societal dream which began with the progressives of the early twentieth century into a wondrous and splendid reality. At the root driving their dream forward is the idea that Judaism and socialist humanism are basically identical and that because of this, they are the real Jews and by solving all the world’s ills through government interventions and programs they can implement a messianic perfection which has been unattainable until now. The fact that their schemes and dreams can never work in practice does not matter because true ideologues do not concern themselves with little matters such as reality. And a final point, many of these leftists believe that if Israel will just get rid of those religious fanatics, anybody who does not worship at the alter to the idol of political correctness and socialist humanism all of which has many of the same qualities as did the Hellenist Greeks, as well as those nationalist Zionists, then they can establish their perfect society free from want or blemish of any kind, where all are equal with a select few, mostly their fellow travelers, are just a little more equal than the rest, and crime and want can be vanquished and a peace can be had with the Palestinians if only those obstinate people in the government would realize the errors of their ways and accept the new world order offered by these international secular-humanist NGOs. Please, save us from those who claim they know all the answers as in reality we do not even know the extent of the questions yet.

Israel Threatened by Illegal Immigrant Hordes

It began as a trickle, a few each month starting a few years back. Most Israelis were sympathetic to the immigrant refugees fleeing southern Sudan and the literal apartheid killing that was taking place. Then there came a new wave including refugees from Eritrea and Somalia. Again these refugees were received with little complaint. The trickle slowly increased to a flow coming across the relatively unguarded and fence free Egyptian border. About the time the flow had become a torrent the problems began to rear the ugly side of these illegal immigrants. The crime wave struck initially in the southernmost city of Eilat where many of the refugees drifted in search of water. Crossing Egypt and the Sinai makes one very thirsty. Soon the torrent had grown into waves after waves and the flood of illegal immigrants now had overflowed from Eilat and began to gather in other cities with a particularly large number taking refuge in southern Tel Aviv. Wherever these illegal immigrants gathered crime increased along with numerous other problems associated with having numerous homeless people living in the streets. With most of the refugees not able to find work, they could be found on street corners, lounging in the bus terminal and often making trouble either out of boredom or due to panhandling for money and even robbing and stealing property from people on the beaches or from stores and stalls in shopping areas. But the illegal immigrants were not the entire problem; there were those whose sympathies were with the illegal immigrants.

Those who lived in the lower middle class and poorer neighborhoods in Tel Aviv and the other cities where the illegal immigrants gathered began to complain and demand for police and the government to do something to alleviate their plight. They simply wanted the laws of the land enforced. That is where the real problem began. While the working class and elderly Israelis who resided in the neighborhoods were being overrun by refugees and a degree of lawlessness that grew in proportion to the numbers of illegals, they petitioned the Knesset and the police to take actions. This was when those who have infinite sympathy for the illegals but no sympathy for their fellow countrymen took up the plight of the illegal refugees supplying them with legal assistance and took steps to delay or prevent their deportation claiming that they would be in danger if returned to their homelands. With the formation of the new country South Sudan, this was no longer the case for those early refugees who had fled the murderous events that plagued their half of the Sudan. This was not particularly true of those who came from Eritrea and was no more valid an argument for those from Somalia than it might be for anybody from that troubled country. Still, these facts meant nothing to the liberal elite who now had a cause and some downtrodden people to save from the ravages of those who were persecuting them.

The depth of the North Tel Aviv elites compassion was given full display last summer when a number of Ministers of the Knesset fighting for the rights of the Israeli citizens to regain their neighborhoods which had the misfortune of being located in the not so elite South Tel Aviv took over one hundred of the illegal refugees and their children to go swimming at an exclusive members only pool in North Tel Aviv. The MKs had purchased visitor passes for every refugee which silenced the initial complaint implemented to try and deny them entrance. Then they were to be denied entry since they did not have proper swimming gear. Not so fast, the MKs had brought sufficient bathing suits for all. Out of excuses, they allowed the immigrants into the pool for an afternoon of water fun and rubbing elbows with the Tel Aviv elite. Well, they would have rubbed elbows with the Tel Aviv elite if almost all of them had not fled the area as soon as it became obvious these people were going to be allowed to enter. So much for their acceptance. Guess the north Tel Aviv liberal elite only love the illegal immigrants as long as they are in somebody else’s neighborhood. You can read all about this blessed, and wonderfully inspired event with these two articles; MK Ben Ari Brings Sudanese to Posh Pool and Operation ‘Welcome Sudanese’ Begins in TA.

Unfortunately, this problem continues to grow as the numbers of illegals continues to rise. The problem has reached epidemic levels and even the leftists have reached the point where they can no longer ignore reality in order to chase a cause simply for feeling their better than the rest of us. Prime Minister Netanyahu has visited a number of African countries to arrange the return of their citizens with little to show for his efforts. Thus far whatever government there is in Somalia has refused to accept any responsibility or even to recognize that any refugees are even from Somalia and flatly refuse to cooperate. Eritrea has not been measurably more cooperative though it is rumored they were at least slightly more polite in their refusal. The nascent country of South Sudan has taken an official position that as a newly established country which is still having border difficulties with its neighbor, Sudan, have officially requested Israel assist by accepting their refugees as a gift from and for South Sudan. They claim they really would be hard pressed to receive any of their refugee citizens back into the population at this time and it would be really swell if Israel would just keep them a while longer. You can read and watch a video of the South Sudanese Agriculture Minister Betty Ogwar presenting the case stating, “When Israel talks about Sudanese, it is talking about all of them – from Sudan and South Sudan. Israel should support all of the Sudanese. They came because they were afraid and came for a better life.” It is all in an article titled  South Sudan Asks Israel to Keep Infiltrators.

This problem is not going to be easily settled and it does pain many Israelis that repatriating these illegal refugees back to their countries of origin has become necessary. Initially, Israel had been willing to accept some refugees, especially from the south of Sudan while the massacres were still a daily occurrence. But peace has been reached and they now have their own country and their lives are not threatened should they return. Just because the South Sudan would rather not take them back and wishes to have Israel care for their people is no reason to actually keep them in Israel. Israel plans on having a fence system in place by late summer and I can already hear the cries of a new Apartheid Fence on the Egyptian border that is victimizing poor Africans. Needless to say, the world while complaining about the Israeli fence will be ignoring how the Egyptians deal with these refugees. The Egyptians and their Sinai tribes simply murder them when they catch them or sometimes retain the women for reasons I would rather not talk about. But it will be the Israeli fence that is evil. Some days you come to realize that you’re simply not going to get a break.

Israel is taking the initial first step towards solving this difficult situation as the State Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday that it would be asking for the courts to remove their temporary order disallowing incarceration and repatriation of the illegal immigrants who originated in the parts of the Sudan which now make up the new country of South Sudan. Once the legal hurdle is cleared I actually do hope that a humane method which allows for respect and proper care to be given the refugees while preparing them for repatriation. Let us assure their last memories of Israel are of a compassionate and fair people and not of a spiteful place where they were treated harshly as they cooperated with authorities. If any of the illegal immigrants do resist or attempt to avoid legal deportation, then a firm hand may be necessitated, but not necessarily a cruel hand. We can demand respect for Israel while showing respect for these people, while enforcing our laws.
