The Thrill Returns

Chris Mathews used to speak of the thrill running up, or was it down, his leg whenever he heard a speech by President Barack Hussein Obama. We will not be hearing about him having some form of similar reaction to speeches by Hillary Clinton. Well, we might, but at least it will not be because of speeches by a President Hillary Clinton, at least for now as the United States voting public is very difficult to predict. If we remember correctly, after rejecting Richard Nixon they eventually did elect him President, and then threatened to, and very well would have, impeached him over the Watergate break-in. Well, back to thrills and body parts. The Democrats for the past several months after the election were all but calling for FBI Director Comey’s head on a pike and would have danced jigs, or at least felt a thrill, well, at least a tingle at his being fired. Yet, the funniest thing happened the other day. After the news broke of James Comey being fired, a fair number of Democrats came before the media to protest the firing of the man they had just a day earlier desired humiliated or possibly have his head on a pike. Such a change overnight, it makes one wonder what could be at play here. Let us not leave you in suspense, we have detected a trend in the Democrats, and, strangely enough, the media as well.

We have noticed that the Democrats have reacted with great horror and shock at every turn, no matter what the actions of President Trump. This particular time it is most interesting as some in the media and with the Democrats ridiculed Trump claiming he was keeping Comey on as the Director of the FBI as payment for Comey destroying Hillary’s opportunity to become President with his ill-timed press conference announcing the reopening of the investigation of the Hillary e-mail probe. This might have worked well but for one small item, Trump does not keep people in positions simply because they perform a favor or two in his service. Further, as FBI Director, Comey was not performing any duties in the favor or service of the Trump campaign. Comey was caught between a rock and a hard place as the laptop computer taken in an investigation of former Senator Anthony Weiner inappropriate sexual e-mails to an underage girl as the laptop also contained hundreds of communications between Hillary and her closest and trusted aid and Anthony Weiner’s former wife, Huma Abedin. With literally hundreds of new e-mails to go through and review, what was a responsible FBI Director supposed to do, wait until after Election Day and the votes were counted and then tell the media of the reopened investigation or tell the media immediately about reopening the investigation. What to do, what to do? Imagine the soul-searching done by James Comey with this weighty decision keeping him up probably all night long pacing the floor from his bedroom to his kitchen, back and forth all night long until morning breaks and finally with the rising sun he makes his fateful decision. He made his press announcement and the Democrats went berserk all but calling for his head on a pike. What was surprising was the rapidity with which the media reported this earth-shaking news, but then it was a bit more than even they could keep silent about. Then Hillary lost the elections and the media had to join the Democrats on demanding Comey’s head on a pike as the only others who could be blamed was the media themselves. So, that is where things were for a good stretch with most Democrats and the leftist media blaming Comey for telling the media about resuming the investigation and not hanging Trump out to dry over the Russian interference. But things in Washington are not always set in stone as much in a quagmire of oozing swamp, which had not been totally drained yet.

Then, after the Inauguration, the media and Democrats had a second angle from ruining the chances for Hillary being elected, his ongoing investigations into the Russian interference in the election, another reason given for Hillary losing the election. Of course, there were those who griped that Comey was possibly stalling the investigation into the Russian interference and this brought them back to Comey being a tool of President Trump. That all came to a critical point where everything changed when President Trump unceremoniously dumped Director James Comey this past week. Suddenly, James Comey was the victim of a terrible vengeance over the FBI ongoing investigation of the Russians influencing the elections. Then there is one small problem with the expectations over the Russians influencing the election. In the words of Senator Dianne Feinstein, as covered by the Los Angeles Times, there has been absolutely no evidence of Russian interference or influencing of the election and Hillary Clinton actually might have managed to lose the election on her own merit. But there, if you listen to some of the conspiracies, James Comey had to be fired because the FBI was getting very close to proving Trump worked with Russians to steal the election from Hillary Clinton and impeachment was just a few more days, weeks at most, away. Unfortunately, the FBI reports that they also have found no evidence that implicates the Russians as interfering or influencing the elections or even their coordinating with Wikileaks to interfere or influence the elections. The FBI and the CIA are both not closing, but they are no longer investigating the Russian election quandary. The Senate has ceased their investigation. The House is likely not far behind. Simply put, that investigation has proven to be a dry well and that is the reality which those still screaming over need to get their arms around.

The question is what will be the next reason where demands come for investigations, as it must be provable that Hillary Clinton actually won the election and belongs in the White House, if only the people were told the truth. This has gone from one reason to the next and appears to be running out of excuses and evils which require investigations and whatever else can be demanded which, if things go as truth will out, or so the anti-Trump forces keep informing us, that Hillary won the election and even at this late date can be placed in the White House and Donald Trump can be placed in prison for the rest of his life as he deserves for stealing what is rightfully Hillary Clinton’s. How long will this continue? Well, that probably depends on how long Donald Trump remains President. For the meantime, we had all better get used to Facebook and other social media being constant yelling about the dirty deals Trump made with Russia and how he is mismanaging the nation and soon the world will explode and everything is all Trump’s fault, and that’s the truth. And if you are upset about this, well, there is one piece of advice we can give you, get used to it, period. Things will remain like this until the correct people are in charge and the adults have returned to the positions of power. The question now is, who will be feeling a thrill in the near future and why.

Trump Clinton, the Aftermath

Well, it actually is all over except the shouting, and there sure seems to be a whole lot of shouting. If you do not believe us, go visit Facebook and if your page is not filled with screaming heebie jeebies, well, then your friends either do not speak English or other major languages or your friends have never heard of this place called the United States of America. Just for your edification, right now they do not appear all that united. The winner of the election rightfully depends on how you figure the winner. By the rules set forth in the United States Constitution, Donald Trump won receiving the majority of the Electoral College Delegates and it was not even close. If, on the other hand, you play by whatever rules best support your argument, in this case the popular vote, then Hillary Clinton should be the President. But if you really want to be picky, then the Democrat candidate should have been the disenfranchised Bernie Sanders and everybody knows that he would have won, just ask his supporters, they’ll tell you all about how he was cheated and how he would have creamed Trump in the General election. Just in case you have not caught on, it’s complicated. To make matters even more bizarre, Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate for President, did not win a single Electoral College Delegate but still demanded recounts in the three states which Hillary Clinton was closest to beating Donald Trump and would have, any two of the three, given Hillary Clinton the victory making her President. Just for clarity, Jill Stein had nothing to gain in any recount even if done by a blind supporter of her candidacy. For reasons that escaped those on the left, that includes most Hillary Clinton supporters and all of Jill Stein supporters, the courts refused the recount efforts and decreed that the recount request by Jill Stein was ridiculous because it could never have gained her any advantage. They were very polite not to dress her down for acting for Hillary Clinton and at the Clinton Campaign’s request that she be her agent so that Hillary could remain above the dirty down under shenanigans. So, the end result is Hillary Clinton won the popular vote, which is like saying she received over 60% of California and New York plus, for the record, over 90% of Washington D.C., which way outnumbered anything Texas could produce as it was almost close in Texas, 55% Trump, but Donald Trump received the most Electoral College Delegates, that is more states which were close such as Wisconsin, Ohio, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Florida and you get the idea, thus winning the Presidential race. For those having difficulty, if one were to be running for school president and each of the twelve levels of classes received one delegate and candidate A won three of the classes by fifty votes each but Candidate B won the remaining nine classes by three votes on average then Candidate B wins the election nine to three but loses the vote count by one-hundred-twenty-three votes.

Now let us give you the particulars. You will hear the claim that each person’s vote in Wyoming, the least populous state, was equal to a thousand votes in California, the most populous state, which explains why Hillary Clinton killing Donald Trump in California but losing Wyoming was important, that actually is how it is supposed to work. If the vote were straight popular vote would anybody ever campaign in Wyoming or Alaska or anywhere other than California, New York, Ohio, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Florida and Texas? Winning California, New York, Ohio, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Florida would easily win you the popular vote but what about the remaining forty-three states, what are they, chopped liver? That was exactly what the Founding Fathers wished to avoid except in their day it was Ohio, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. The Electoral College is made up of five-hundred-thirty-five delegates. Each state receives two delegates to equal their number of Senators and then they get a delegate for each member of the House of Representatives. Every state is guaranteed a minimum of one Representative thus in the Electoral College Wyoming gets three delegates and California gets fifty-five delegates. The population of California is many times greater than the population of Wyoming, sufficient that seventy-five delegates might be a closer representation of the difference, but that is not the rule and the rules for the election were clear, crystal clear, at the beginning of the campaign. Despite knowing that she would win in California and New York, Hillary Clinton still campaigned in both states as if they were in question and crucial to her winning yet she spent little if any time in Wisconsin, Ohio, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Michigan believing they too were guaranteed. They were not. Still, the screaming will continue as if a great miscarriage of justice has been committed because Hillary Clinton was owed the Presidency and Donald Trump is a poser.

So, what is the truth behind this election? Well, first off is Donald Trump is not worthy of the office of President, but then again neither was Hillary Clinton. Probably there might have been a third party or independent candidate worthy but the actual reality is the only ones with any hope of winning were the two major party candidates. So, what are the American people to do when both parties put up such candidates? They chose, it is that simple. Truth of the matter is that there are likely a fair number of people who voted for Donald Trump who now wish they had not but had Hillary Clinton won there would have likely been a near equal number of people upset with having voted for her. When the vast majority of the people are voting against one candidate rather than supporting the candidate receiving their vote, there can be no validated winner. That aside, the fact is Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton by three-hundred-six delegates to two-hundred-thirty-two delegates. That is an electoral landslide despite losing the popular vote. That leaves a vast number of disgruntled Americans facing a President who feels he has an electoral mandate. The media will do what it is able to deprive Donald Trump of any feelings of great victory be constantly questioning his victory and claiming he stole the Presidential election. Even the more conservative and Republican friendly media will not be all that favorable to Donald Trump thus he is unlikely to have many friends anywhere along the political landscape. But there are those who claim, us included, that if you are making everybody angry then you are probably being extremely fair as nobody likes a fair decision, they want their side to obviously win.

Still, the question is what choice was there when both candidates were so obviously flawed? The honest truth was the election was more about which candidate was going to lose, not who would win. Hillary lost the election far more than Trump won the election. Each candidate received more of their votes from people scared to death of the other candidate in the White House. As it turned out, more voters in more states were terrified of the Clinton Foundation and the pay to play politics than they were of a complete clown and poser playing at President for the next four years. More people over a wider geographic area felt that Trump could and would do less damage to the nation than Clinton. There were no great expectations or value voters but had there been such, they voted Trump over Clinton. The reality was once Hillary Clinton campaigned in a single speech that she would be President Obama’s third term she lost. Her repeating that mantra cost her the election as the states between the great mountain ranges, the Appalachians and the Rockies, voted all but unanimously for Trump. Hillary won the megalopolises and Trump the smaller cities, towns and countryside. This election was very much similar to the Truman defeat of Dewey by taking rural America over the cities. That election was initially called for Dewey famously by the Chicago Daily Tribune leading to the famous picture of Truman holding up that paper with the headline of “Dewey Defeats Truman” at his victory party. There was one news magazine which had reported a Clinton victory in the election thus history repeated itself except we had to fake the picture. This election will be exciting demonstrations and questions about what will be and might have been. No matter which side of the argument you sit, you cannot win on Facebook. To be honest, Facebook has gotten borderline toxic no matter who you supported as the extremes are ruling the posting wars. If you can survive more than fifteen minutes either you are ignoring the vast majority of posts or you have apolitical friends. All we can request is please bring back the kitten and puppy pictures and funny videos, please.

Headlines Then and Now

The future will debate on into infinity what would have been and what was. There will be predictions of how different things would be and debates over if Trump or Clinton really is the anti-Christ. Trump is the President and the best thing we all can do is pray that he makes at least mostly good choices. We also need remember that many of the things Trump will do, that can be reversed in the future just as things President Obama did are now being altered or nixed all together. That is how the American system functions, or malfunctions, all depending on whether your side is in power or not. After four years the American people will be given the opportunity to decide if Donald Trump was a worthy President or not. First the Republicans will get to decide whether to run Trump again or not and then the people will get a chance if the Republicans have not replaced him. Then there is the chance that Trump will decide four years of the bearing the responsibilities is a bit much for him and not run for reelection. It is possible as it has probably happened before like when Lyndon Baines Johnson decided not to run for another term seeing he would definitely have lost and did not want that on his resume. Whatever the case will be, in two years the entire House of Representatives is up for election and one third of the Senate, which leaves a large amount of potential change if people decide that the nation is going in the wrong direction still. This election was somewhat about the direction of the nation with Hillary Clinton claiming to retain the status quo and Donald Trump being the agent for change, radical change. What was interesting is that radical change won as that is uncharacteristic of the American voters and has seldom been the case. The last time such was chosen was Ronald Reagan, not to draw even the slightest of comparisons though if Donald Trump does half as much good he will have been a success. That will likely get some reactions claiming we are insane if we believe Reagan was a good President and that it was Carter’s policies of freedom that broke the Soviet empire down. That is the belief in some circles; fortunately we travel largely in equilateral triangles so as not to get dizzy. All that can be said in honesty now is may Donald Trump be guided by the better angels and produce good for the largest numbers of peoples as he is able with the limited amount of power he legally wields and may he only wield those defined powers.

Fallujah Residents Caught in the Jaws of a Vice

Let us pretend for a moment that you and your family are amongst the Forty-five-thousands or so civilian residents remaining in Fallujah and you want to survive; what does one do? If you remain in the city, the unmerciful shelling and other indirect weapons will eventually strike your home destroying it and your terrified family. If you try to leave, both sides will do what it takes to get you killed. The Islamic State desires two things from the Sunni citizens of Fallujah; they want you murdered using the most horrific means possible such that you and your family can be shown in Facebook and in the media who are stanchly supporting the story line and as human shields once the fighting commences. What story line is that, pray tell? Well, that depends again on whose telling the story. The Western coalition will tell the story of your family’s death as a horrific price being paid to free the city from the Islamic State which placed your family in harm’s way. The Islamic State and Muslim Brotherhood will use the horrific and tragic death of your family as proof of the horrific cost of this war brought down on the rightful rulers of Fallujah by Iran and the Shiite militias who are nothing more than blood thirsty mobs of subhuman scoundrels of the worst kind. The Syrian supporters of Bashir al-Assad will claim that the tragic death of your family simply proves what they have claimed from the start, that they are simply fighting against these same Sunni terrorist forces and the world simply does not understand the situation because if they did they would be backing Assad, not bombing them. The Druze and Kurds would likely claim to put a pox on both your houses as all they want is to rule their own little plot of lands free from the slaughtering forces of both sides which have routinely murdered their families in the name of liberating or defending them literally since the end of World War I and the disaster that Sykes-Picot brought down on the region by its design. These guys may be the only ones with clear vision and also the ones who see the sole path to enlightened behavior, give each tribe or even family their own fig tree, orange tree, a few grape vines and a dozen sheep per adult male and everybody go home. Unfortunately for you, your family and anybody still in Fallujah; ain’t never gonna happen!

Apart from the obvious tribal divides and the religious Sunni-Shiite divide, there is another overarching problem; only one side will be left standing at the end of the day still seeking to rule the world and the world does not want anybody ruling the entire world except for their sacred and Heaven chosen leaders. In Iran that is the Supreme Leader whoever is currently in that position which right now is Ali Khamenei. Those with the Islamic State want their Caliph Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Ask the Western Leaders and they just want to have the old order restored and everybody at each other’s throats but leaving that to killing those within their national border within reason or they will remove you from power and the next idiot they leave in charge will start killing those within the border until it gets ridiculous at which point the Western militaries will come in and replace them with another opposition leader thus keeping the region forever embroiled in petty intra-fratricidal schemes and fighting instead of making any progress towards a modern cohesive society which can compete with Europe in any means of production and resorting to the only other thing they can do for currency, sell the raw materials within their borders to the Europeans who will then make the goods to sell to you and your people who are the chosen sect of the month.

Almost nowhere on the face of the planet is there actually nations whose leaders and people desire for all the rest of the world to do well and also desire their people and nation to be free to pursue that which benefits all their people the best and most rewarding way possible by the best available means. Often where one has a leader who appears to desire, there are those groups within the nations who desire to wrest power from that leader by any means necessary and not always within the structure of the society even be that a democratic style of governance with actual fair elections as elections can be so messy and your ideas are all about order, instilling and keeping order, order as you see fit to define it. Where you have a people that desire that the leader inevitable sees some injustice or place in the world where things are not being done in a proper manner as defined by their views, then they must put together a coalition of the willing and sometimes the not so willing and repair that problem until it no longer can bother them. This is sometimes done in a civilized manner otherwise called a trade war. Right now the civilians of Fallujah would welcome a trade war and settle for there being no leader anywhere with a say in their business, not even from amongst their own fellow Fallujahittes. We have to face it that Fallujah had it not so terribly awful under Saddam Hussein as there were plenty of other eggs to crack and/or fry before they came under his attention, never a good thing. Then saving the day came the Americans and their coalition of the willing under George H. W. Bush to free Kuwait and put Iraqi Dictator Saddam Hussein back to Baghdad preventing him from turning south and taking Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States thus gaining a monopoly on much of the world’s oil. Many question if it was worth the price as he remained in power which caused yet another destructive war whose costs are still not ended piling up.

The cost of a war is impossible to gauge until far after the ramifications are complete. By that standard the initial push by Persia into Greece which eventually led to the conquest of Persia and beyond by Alexander the Great which brought on Rome which fell into a morass of tribal fiefdoms and the Byzantines which fell before the Caliphate and finally knocked out by the Ottomans who fell in World War I leading to Sykes-Picot which leads to so many wars as well as World War I leading to World War II and the current mess we call the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and the refugees flooding into an already bankrupt and financially desperate Europe and spilling into Canada and the United States where the race for the Presidency will be Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton and the beat goes on, and the beat goes on…
