The First question we need answer is can, and if so how, the United States return to being the moral leader of the free world. Unfortunately it will not be so easy as to return to acting as a leader or changing its retreat from the forefront and taking up the banner dropped January 20, 2009 when President Obama was sworn into office and made his very first phone call from the Oval Office. One can learn a lot about the direction the Presidency will take going forward by paying attention to the smallest of things, an off the cuff comment, the wistful glances at the least opportune times, immediate reactions when one is caught off their guard and acts from deep within; but none are more telling than finding out what one places their most important relations which can be ascertained by often the simplest of actions. The telling act by any President is the order in which they place their first phone call from the Oval Office on Inauguration Day. Newly elected and just having taken the oath of office, twice we find out though stories on why and what was different the second time vary, President Obama did what likely every President has as soon as they get a chance, they go into the Oval Office and sit behind the resolute desk and take in the view of the most important office in the world and then it hits them, they are the most important person in the world right then and there before doing anything to prove themselves. Then they take the phone and make that all important first phone call from the seat of power. Who they call and in what order is an important stage for realizing what direction and the importance of issues and relations are all revealed over that first week and the phone calls they make, the people they arrange to meet, and the people they have closest to them assisting their sorting out who is responsible for what, the attention paid to those first briefings and their first time for each function. More often than not it takes six months to figure out which direction a Presidency has set for itself. Not so much with President Obama.

Abbas and Obama Handshake with Netanyahu Watching at Opening of Peace Talks where the three met for a photo-op announcing the start of peace talks brought on with ten month building freeze as enticement, but Abbas never negotiated except to demand officially announced permanent building freeze which Netanyahu agreed to permanent stealth freeze but not announced. Abbas and Obama have pressed for announced freeze to ruin Bibi’s political future and bring down present government hoping Labor-Livni government will win next time.

What President Obama placed his highest emphasis on was apparent as soon as he finished pressing that last number for that all important first phone call; that was the first step in foreign policy agenda which has not strayed one iota from that initial act. So, who did President Obama call with that first phone call after walking into the Oval Office and seating himself down in the leather bound chair behind the massive resolute desk and reached for the receiver and punched in that first number making a call to a leader outside of the United States, what did it say about the forty-fourth President? Well, the fact he called somebody overseas, we know that he had at least one foreign agenda item at the top of his list of priorities. That the call was reportedly of a friendly and possibly defined as jovial told us he had called somebody he felt comfortable talking with and with whom he could be at ease and lastly, that the President called the person by their first name he was talking to what might be termed a friend who thusly indicated that if this said anything about President Obama and foreign policy it was that this was very likely an area the President placed great importance and emphasis for the President’s agenda. So, who received this all important phone call which was so potentially revealing about the Presidency that unfolded over those first hours on that all important day of firsts? That was the most shocking and gave many a jolt and served as a clarion wake-up bell as it placed a shroud of doubts which actions over the next few months and beyond reverberated the importance the President himself placed on his relations with the recipient of that first phone call, Mahmoud Abbas.

We were never made aware of how long it was before President Obama placed his call to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu but we estimate it was not until much further into his Presidency and we suspect that first call was likely made out of necessity rather than cordial relations. We were told that Prime Minister Netanyahu did call to extend warm greetings and wished the President well but we were never informed by either party whether the two actually spoke or if the phone call was simply registered along with the myriad of other similar phone calls. Armed with the information available we have Mahmoud Abbas as the very first person President Obama called and that he placed this call from the Oval Office later in the afternoon when President Obama first visited his new office and that it was the only call made during that first visit though such is unconfirmed and will likely remain as such. One thing which has been validated by actions is that the first phone call was a good measure of the man who had just taken the oath of office and would preside over the most influential position and force on the world’s stage. It did not take much longer before the foreign policy agenda began to emerge from behind that shroud of uncertainty when the President gave his speech from Cairo. The affirmations that President Obama was going to be far more preoccupied with the Middle East and promoting an agenda deeply steeped as his preeminent “Hope and Change” agenda which would result in far more change and turmoil over the ensuing years.

The next shoe to fall came over the President’s presumed backing for forcing a peace between Israel and the Arabs and that President Obama was willing to place his office squarely behind Mahmoud Abbas and the Arab Palestinian claims for statehood when the President came out pressing Israel to return to the negotiations table and to once again demanding Israel make concessions in order to gain the cooperation of Mahmoud Abbas because if he did not get some guarantees up front, what was the use of his even negotiating. There were no doubts that Israel would want to negotiated, Israel was always ready to negotiate. The offer was a fateful one as it had never been rescinded since that initial promise to a building freeze for ten months while the negotiations would presumably work through to an actual final agreement. Why would it not as here we had a United States President who was ready to assist the two sides in reaching an agreement, maybe too interested in reaching an agreement. Prime Minister Netanyahu took an unprecedented position and froze all building in Judea and Samaria which was announced and also in East Jerusalem though this was an under the table promise which for political reasons could not be made public. The first nine months passed and the sole meeting had been the customary photo-op and then Abbas refused to negotiate and instead spent that entire time demanding that the building freeze be made permanent and to continue in perpetuity until a final agreement could be reached. Suddenly Mahmoud Abbas after about three months of insisting on a permanent building freeze slightly altered his terms and now demanded such a freeze be not only the Israeli unofficial policy but that it be announced for all the world to witness this concession, unprecedented concession, had been forced by Mahmoud Abbas. It seemingly was all about Abbas parading around with streamers flowing off his cape announcing concessions he had forced and less about peace and actual negotiations. Over time it became apparent that Prime Minister Netanyahu had given his word to President Obama that there would be a building freeze in place on all of Judea, Samaria and even East Jerusalem though it would be a silent unannounced freeze and would often take form to appear as if building was imminent but that he, Prime Minister Netanyahu and his Defense Minister, Moshe Ya’alon, would continue to enforce a silent building freeze in order to get Mahmoud Abbas to the negotiations table. After nine of the ten months of announced building freeze had passed, Abbas continued to demand assurances and an announced permanent freeze knowing that the minute such an announcement was made that Prime Minister Netanyahu’s political career was over. Netanyahu also knew this and so the unofficial and unannounced but still permanent building freeze has been in place ever since with no doubt President Obama at every junction reminding Prime Minister Netanyahu that the man in Washington demands he keep his promise despite not holding anybody else to their promises including Iran and their nuclear, for peaceful purposes only, weapons program.

So now we have Israel in their seventieth month of an unofficial, unannounced, complete building freeze on Judea, Samaria and East Jerusalem where no buildings for Jews are to be constructed by where the Arab Palestinians are permitted to build without any of those pesky and irritating requirements such as licenses, inspections, or even ownership of the land on which they build even to include Area C which was under Oslo reserved for Jewish rule but promised to Israel, the Jew amongst the nations, and are not of any consequence. Only promises forced from the Jew Nation are enforceable but promises to them, you must be kidding, are worthless just as all promises made to Jews since history was first recorded. Anyway, what are they going to do, sue us? Where, in what court, who would even listen to them. Don’t they know that the courts are only there to enforce judgements against them and that even the United States has grown tired of their constant demands for the Palestinians to recognize them? Why does nobody in the world honestly recognize the Jewish right to self-determination, a country for the Jews? Next you will tell me it was a promise from Hashem and that permits the Jews the right to a country. As we all know, President Obama was converted into Christianity and taught about Christianity by Reverend Jeremiah Wright who practices a form of replacement theology which does not recognize any Jewish claims to the Promised Land and rather believes them to have been cast off by G0d and left to do the devil’s work and are cursed by G0d to lives spent as cast out from His righteous protections, accursed forced to live lives of doubt scorned by all and forced to live being chased from one land after another never permitted to put down roots or ever to know peace or security. For twenty years and being converted by, married by, children baptized by this one preacher, Jeremiah Wright; yet, we are supposed to believe that President Obama never heard a single disparaging word, or at least seldom was heard a disparaging word and the skies are not cloudy all day.

The new presumably right leaning, nationalist, Zionist Israeli government has taken office with the guarantees that the gloves are finally coming off. Well, we’re waiting and thus far we have seen no changes which for the slightest make one believe that anything has changed. I know, Iran is far more important and then there is the Islamic State which promises to be on both borders, Gaza as well as Judea and Samaria and the government just is unable to address the building freeze and the truth is there will be plenty of room for building later after these crises are gone. Somehow that seems awful difficult to believe and it would be more readily believable that there is still that pesky building freeze in place and President Obama has you pegged as simply a pushover and the only person in the entire world he can bully and as long as he can he will continue to bully you to death and what does that say about you and the Israeli people. We should not be on bended knee before any others for Hashem is the L0rd our G0d and we have no others besides Him. We are not to bow down before Pharaoh nor before Nebakanezzer, nor Xerxes King of Persia, nor Caesar, nor any mortal man including Barack Hussein Obama II as you are My servants and shall serve only Hashem. You have the full support of the people though that will wane as your will appears to wane and weaken as your knees weaken and cease to have hope in their hearts if you do not give them hope in their lands. President Obama has mortally wounded the United States for centuries at the very least. Obama has proven beyond the remotest of doubts that the promises and word of an American President is only as good as his character and worth nothing after he leaves office. Laws do not matter, treaties do not matter, letters of promise do not matter, and with some Presidents even their own word and promises do not matter and this President has lied to you, spat in your face, demeaned you, disparaged you with other leaders (remember Obama and Sarkozy), enfeebled you before your enemies and sold Israel down the river with his arm Iran with nukes treaty. Wake up and smell the coffee and realize that that man in Washington holds nothing but animosity and hatreds for you, your nation, and the Jewish People. Obama does not even serve Hashem as he serves Allah, the god of Abraham, Ishmael and Muhammad, not Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. His conversion and any other vow he may have taken were all in the service of Allah as he was simply taking those steps as required to serve Allah more efficiently and was all taqiyya and thus meaningless. Judge the man by his actions as truly you will be judged and treat him with the same respect he has shown you and his word to you. If you are unable to serve the people of Israel because of a promise made to a lying hater of Israel and everything Jewish outside of campaign cash and lastly has placed Israel in an untenable position by adopting the most hardline of the Arab demands of the right of return to Israel of five-million plus Arab refugees which would bring about the end of Israel as the home of the Jews at their very first election and within weeks of that election almost, if not every, Jew will have departed Israel voluntarily or have left this mortal existence. If President Obama were to have his way, then Israel as the home of the Jewish People and as the dreams and aspirations of the Jewish People will have died a horrid death. He has forced Mahmoud Abbas to take an even more strident and extreme position by adopting every last one of the Arab demands thus making them the mainstream position and also radicalized the anti-Israel demonstrators and groups such that only the eradication of our state is acceptable now as many Jews in the United States and Europe have taken as their position feeling that as leftist Jews they must be more anti-Israel than anybody else, and these are the people who will be used and discarded in order to destroy Israel. The only way to prevent their strident leftist indoctrinations from destroying Israel is for every Zionist and nationalist Israeli Jew to stand and make a difference, but how can we do such when as soon as we do we are reminded that even Prime Minister of Israel Netanyahu, the most Zionist of them all, recognized the illegitimacy of Israel and its Jewish oppression of the Arab Palestinians and that is why he has not permitted building in Judea and Samaria and has ignored the calls for Jews to be permitted prayer on the Temple Mount. We are pleading with you Prime Minister, get out in front and lead as we are already there following and only need you at the fore where as our Prime Minister you belong. Do you think for a minute that Tzipi Livni would have wasted ten seconds before leading marches against the Jews residing legally in Judea and Samaria or anywhere else the leftist desire to thrown the Jews out of. Have we not had enough of being our own worst enemies? Lead us and lead us NOW! If you cannot as you gave your word, then allow another to do so and confess that you are bound by word and duty and for that betrayal you step aside and please make the next Prime Minister a true Zionist in the mold of Ze’ev Jabotinsky.

Time to Open the Temple Mount to Universal Access and Prayer

The attempted assassination of Yehuda Glick simply because he stood and vocally demanded freedom and equal rights for all people of all religious convictions regardless of their heritage, race, gender, origin and, most of all, religion on the Temple Mount should hasten the day when his dream be realized and make that day this day. The entirety of the Temple Mount is not the al-Aqsa Mosque nor is it the Dome of the Rock nor anything else which qualifies it as exclusive solely for Islamic observances. This is not to desire to open either Muslim structure or any structure located on the Temple Mount for public access or to compromise them or the other places of worship or religious significance for any use other than intended by the religious order that holds them sacred and holy. This is an allowance to promote and achieve religious equality and to provide religious tolerance which is inclusive and universal, especially in regard to the three Abrahamic religions of which Islam is included. Israel is a nation of laws which protect every religion and religious equality with freedom to pray as one desires and wherever one desires as long as it is a public venue or an institution or structure of their religion. These laws also protect any religious structure from being usurped or compromised by any act while still allowing for maximum rights to pray and perform one’s religious acts and fulfillments. These laws apply just as much to the Temple Mount as they do to any other place within Israel and to all religious practices of the many and varied peoples within and visiting Israel.

Imagine the outrage that would explode where Jews and Muslims and all others who were not Catholics being denied the right to pray silently while visiting the gardens and walkways or even the heliport before leaving or after successfully landing by helicopter or within any of the lands reserved for the Vatican in Rome. Such a restriction would be absurd and impossible to enforce as silent prayers can be uttered entirely without any outward manifestations and thus without any evidence provided to the committing such prayers making their detection impossible and any enforcement of such restrictions becoming simply a method for denial of access to any areas under such a legal writ for abstaining from prayers from other religions. Yet this is one of the criteria which the members and guardians of the Waqf use to remove Jews from the Temple Mount. Their restriction that no religious artifacts or signs including jewelry, beads, prayer books, fringed garments or other items which the guardians of Islamic purity on the Temple Mount decide arbitrarily are disallowed is simple religious discrimination, an act illegal within Israel and the lands under Israeli law which the Temple Mount, all of Jerusalem and the rest of Area C are within such jurisdiction. This makes any restrictions of prayer, access or any other discriminatory restriction prosecutable under Israeli laws.

There have been threats from Jordan to negate the peace treaty with Israel should the Temple Mount be opened to any form of prayers other than Islamic prayers or if Jews are permitted access to visit the Temple Mount under less restrictive conditions and especially if Israel were to enforce permitting Jews entrance to the Temple Mount from any of its entrances other than the difficult entrance delegated for Jewish access by the Jordanian Waqf. The Arab League has also issued similar warnings of dire consequences should Jews and others not of the Islamic faith be granted freedom to pray and unfettered access to the Temple Mount or should the ruling that every millimeter of the Temple Mount is an Islamic holy place is challenged (which makes one wonder if this ruling also applies to the Christian sites and buildings on the Temple Mount). Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh has also threatened extreme consequences should the Islamic nature and restrictions over the Temple Mount be challenged or altered in any manner, emphasizing that Jews not be permitted even access to these holy Islamic grounds.

Then there is another threat which has been leveled against Jewish rights on the Temple Mount which deserves special reference and that is the assault made on the Facebook page for the Temple Institute. This threat was more specific and personal as it listed fifteen Jewish activists and authorities over the Temple Mount complete with their pictures which include Yehuda Glick, which were taken from Islamist pages. These pictures included Rabbi Yisrael Ariel, the founder of the Temple Institute; Rabbi Chaim Richman, the Temple Institute International Director; as well as other activists and members of both Yehuda Glick founded LIBA Project for Jewish ascent to the Temple Mount and the Temple Institute. Along with the pictures was this warning, “We, the Muslims, will not allow anyone to touch Al Aqsa. Your actions are liable to drag the entire region into war. The Al Aqsa mosque is for Muslims only, and we will not allow you to control it.” What must be understood about the wording in this threat is that when referring to al-Aqsa the Muslim entities and individuals imply every millimeter of the Temple Mount and not simply the mosque by that name. This threat to the persons listed and the other threats are vile in their intent but as repugnant and immoral as these threats may be, we expect that many European governments, the European Union, the United Nations, the United States (or at least the State Department and numerous administration officials though the latter will only be referred to as ‘high administration officials on the condition of anonymity’) and near countless NGOs and other organizations will affirm their support for such restrictions though some, likely very few, will denounce the threats to individuals such as in the Facebook posted warnings and threats.

Lastly we come to the Israeli leadership and their disgraceful groveling before these threats and the demands to restrict Jewish visitation, if not their outright banishment, from the Temple Mount. The statements from the Prime Minister and those issued as originating from his office assuring that the current status quo will remain in effect and be enforced by Israeli law officers and the Knesset. These declarations from Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu are repulsive displays which are potentially indicative of a Dhimmi attitude and of being shameful utterances which imply that Jews are lesser to Muslims and are deserving of being subjected to shameful treatment and must be accepting of shame and discriminatory restrictions and denial of access to the most holy site to Judaism. His acquiescence reinforces the Islamic claims to absolute rights and ownership of the Temple Mount and is tantamount to ceding all rights and privileges to the Islamic influence managed through the Jordanian Waqf and thus inferring the Israeli intent to surrender all claims to East Jerusalem before the world. Such conflict avoidance inspired concessions will only lead to greater and more restrictive and demeaning treatment and rejecting of Jewish rights and even equality regarding religious rights where Islamic rights will trump all Jewish and Israeli laws, rights and concerns. The Jordanian Waqf has crossed the line from adjudicating officials for the protection of the rights for Muslims on the Temple Mount and their access to Islamic holy sites within to a terrorist leadership which intends to deny Jews followed by Christians and eventually all who are not Islamic, potentially even the right version of Islam, of any rights or visitation to the Temple Mount with the intent to make the Temple Mount into the Islamic Vatican of the Middle East. The Waqf has intertwined themselves, if not outright joined, with those from the Muslim Brotherhood as well as ISIS and numerous Islamic Imams, including especially Yusuf al-Qaradawi who in his celebratory return to Egypt speech of February 18, 2011, in Tahrir Square, Cairo, Egypt where he exclaimed his desires to preach in the al-Aqsa Mosque when it became the center for the new Caliphate. Making all of Jerusalem the capital city for the next Caliphate on top the crushed state of Israel which will have removed the Jews from power if not from even more is the stated aim of many Islamic leaders and is part of the goals expressed by ISIS and bowing to Islamic restrictions and discriminations in the here and now only bodes for the realization of the Islamic goal of claiming all of Jerusalem and conquering Israel. There is no reason to give the impression that the Jewish People have such little pride and love for the Temple Mount and for its sanctity and importance to Jews and Jewish history as such will only lead to one conclusive event when the Mufti of Jerusalem claims Islamic victory and complete ownership of the Temple Mount. These current threats are the opening lines which conclude with that declaration of ownership.

The Israeli and world Jewry must make known that they will not accept secondary and lesser rights to have unfettered access to their most holy Temple Mount and do not demand their right to pray there as that is a right given from G0d and thus no mortal may reject the authority for Jewish prayers, or any other prayers as Judaism teaches tolerance for those who deserve respect and thus protection of their rights because they offer respect, not intolerance, on the Temple Mount. This time is developing into a crucial time in history, another pivot point which may have similar impact to humankind as did the emergence of the Greco-Roman influence or the initial spread of Islam or the Mongol conquests. The promise of a great, bright technological world with wonders, inventions and innovations of which many are not even yet imagined.

Alternatively, the future may hold conflicts and destructions beyond reason or measure, each one greater and more violent than the last until we reach that point prophesized by Albert Einstein when he replied to the query as to what kind of weapons would be utilized during World War III. Einstein replied, “I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.” Our fears are that his prediction while not necessarily completely valid as mankind, providing we survive World War III, will still have the knowledge to build at the very least bows and arrows, spears, clubs, swords, catapults, trebuchets, ballistae and other rudimentary weapons which do not necessitate fabrication, heavy metal works or boring with the necessary spin making rifles more accurate than muskets, is otherwise spot-on and a piece of logic and wisdom to be heeded. Unfortunately, with the world on the cusp of a nuclear arms race across the Middle East and North Africa combined with the increasing tensions in every corner of the world to the extent that it appears the world has lost all reason and cautions, should beyond this cusp a war erupt and one nation believing it was on the brink of total annihilation or believing that a nuclear launched knockout strike the most assured route to ultimate victory, they introduce the utilization of tactical nuclear weapons or worse, full strength city destroying nuclear weapons which would spawn nuclear counterstrikes and a nuclear escalating conflict which would leave no corner of the world untouched by the destruction and fallout. The entire direction of the immediate and long-term futures for the human race may once again depend on the decisions made in seemingly innocent and unimportant situations thus enabling and empowering some leaders to believe they have greater power and a military advantage that they will choose to exercise leading to an ever-growing conflagration.

Because of such sensitivity and the necessity to weigh every decision from numerous angles the choice made by Prime Minister Netanyahu assuring King Hussein of Jordan that the Waqf will remain in place and Jews would observe the limitations placed upon them, allowing the Waqf to continue to have complete say over the Temple Mount was difficult, especially as it forces Jews and other non-Muslims to be good little Dhimmis. Obviously we have great difficulty and disagree with this exhibition of weakness and lack of will to take advantage of the sliver of hope to press for the equal rights and respect for all peoples, religious faiths, and all of mankind to visit, pray and enter the Temple Mount through any of many gates, archways and other entrances. The one overriding and horrid reality is that should Prime Minister Netanyahu, with the affirmation and support of the Knesset and the full backing of the Rabbinical leadership, obviously including the vocal support and affirmations by the two Chief Rabbis and the Rabbi overseeing the Temple Mount, actually decide to open the Temple Mount to equal access and equal rights for prayer and equality in all areas the rest of the world would demand that he retract that decision and would accuse Israel of fomenting violence and attempting to start a regional war. Perhaps this weighed heavily on him forcing his decision on the side of caution and avoidance of any confrontation. The problem is that there will eventually be this very confrontation and if Israel has not pressed equal rights for all religions and peoples, then the confrontation will be over the banishment of Jews from any form of entrance to the Temple Mount and eventually to the Western Wall and all of East Jerusalem including all of the Old City, or perhaps over demands that all Jews be removed from Hevron or even from east of the Green Line. The claim to the 1949 Armistice Lines (also called the pre 67 lines) as the new border for a Palestinian state has already been affirmed and set in motion by the Swedish formal recognition of the Palestinian State. Should a number of European States and even the Security Council and the United Nations as well as any nations in the Americas, especially the United States also recognize this as the true Palestinian State and drop any reference to agreed upon borders which provide Israel with defensible borders and instead simply recognize the Green Line as the new border, such will be traced back to the timidity of Israeli leadership and even the Israelis themselves for not strongly defending their claims and rights even on the place most holy to them. Why should the rest of the world give it more effort than the Israelis themselves. The truth is they should not be expected to do more than we Israelis and our leaders are willing to do and go the distance ourselves. There is still time to pressure the Knesset and Prime Minister to do the rightful thing and make the righteous decision.

Are Civil Rights for Sexual Preferences Tantamount to Civil Rights for Minority Races

Looking back to the first plaintive cries petitioning for acceptance and protection from being segregated against in life; many of their complaints revolved around workplace, refusal of housing or rental properties, refusal of service in restaurants or stores, and other generalities which today are granted without even a second thought. No longer is it acceptable or even forgivable to physically assault same-sex partners simply because they disturb your preference for a normalcy where such a situation either never exists because no one desires relations other than the norm or such relations are barred from the public realm.

The initial indications that the demands from the more adamant, some might even say militant, alternate life partners and sexual preferences began to compare their struggle to the Civil Rights Movement of a half century ago. These statements also brought to the fore the first warning protestations that the gender identity lobby was going to aim to overturn every last vestige of normal sexuality forcing their way into mainstream and eventually making their lifestyle and sexual proclivities the norm and traditional relationships the exception, or at least the perception of such. Those making these warnings were mostly ignored as paranoid extremists. Their main claim was that the alternate gender lobby would eventually demand a change in the definition of marriage and even force religious institutions to perform alternate gender weddings regardless of their religious convictions against such relations. Obviously these people were insane and had a very loose grip on reality. Nobody was thinking of challenging the definition of marriage as being a bond between one man and one woman. Such claims had to be absurd and dismissed out of hand, until when in more recent times this exact demand came to fruition. Recent court rulings have gone even further making objections enacted into laws, even those which have passed as citizen initiatives receiving solid majority backing when placed on ballots, have been overturned using Civil Rights Laws and equal access laws as the basis for striking down enacted laws which ban same sex marriages.

As I wrote back in March of 2013 in the article titled The Sane Solution to Same Sex Marriage, the easiest solution is to separate marriage and civil unions making one the purview of the state and the other reserved for religious institutions. With the individual states and other legally approved jurisdictions issuing a license for a civil union which qualifies those so joined all the benefits currently described as marriage benefits such as tax breaks, visitation in public hospitals and other similar rights while marriages will be issued through a religious ceremony and would have no actual civil benefits under the law. With such a difference established the state would still receive their revenue from issuing licenses for marriages and gain additional revenue for same sex unions without all of the aggravations and protestations from the religious and conservatives who have protested allowing marriage to be redefined by statutes or court decisions. The individual states and even more local jurisdictions such as counties, parishes, cities, towns and whatnot can make whatever allowances and combinations to qualify for a civil union without having any effect on the definitions of marriage which would remain with religious institutions. If an union other than traditional marriage of one man and one woman is permitted by any particular church, synagogue, temple, mosque, cathedral, monasteries or other religious institution desires to issue a marriage license to non-traditional couples, then that would be their right as well and they could attract such couples into their fold.

The coming disaster will be the eventuality when men of the cloth will no longer be permitted to even read scripture wherever the original scripture excludes nontraditional civil unions. Such an atmosphere has already cast a pale over the pulpits of Houston, Texas; yes, Texas of all places but such is Houston where they reelected Mayor Annise D. Parker who lives an open lesbian lifestyle. Her sexuality would have little to do with her position as mayor except that her administration recently was embroiled in a tempest over an apparent attempt to force the religious leaders to turn over any sermons or other material which they may have given, written or otherwise distributed which may have had any relevance to be subpoenaed. This action caught a great amount of indignation, challenges and even some outright refusals all basing their hesitance or resistance on religious freedoms under the First Amendment. This did force the Mayor to redefine the subpoena narrowing its coverage but the argument has been started and is not going to end soon in Houston. This was but the initial shot over the bow, given time this type of action will be repeated and slowly but surely it will become accepted and soon clergy will no longer be permitted free range of subject material and will begin to restrict their public positions to politically correct and approved subjects. This is the first step to thought crimes where people can be arrested for holding certain opinions and is the beginning of a dangerous slippery slope to slide down to a dark and hurtful place.

Meanwhile, the gender identity movement has one glaring difference from the Civil Rights Movement. While a minority individual cannot choose their minority status and in everything they do and everywhere they go they continue to obviously be that minority, they literally wear their minority status wherever they go, whether they are alone or in a group, they remain a minority. There is absolutely no choice or manner in which one can disguise or act in some manner and not be perceived as a minority. The same is not true for people with gender identity issues. A same sex couple when walking down the street would only be identified as potentially a same sex couple if they were walking hand-in-hand or with their arms around each other, though such would not necessarily always be accurate as such acts could have other motivations. Still, should a same sex couple simply be walking down the street or walk into a restaurant to have a meal they would not be depicted as such and could pass as two friends walking or taking a meal together. A minority is a minority walking down the street, having a meal with a friend and that is a simple fact which cannot be altered. That is the difference, a choice is made to announce or otherwise make known when a person has gender identity or sexual preferences which may be considered non-traditional otherwise they could just as easily pass as being no different than the next person or group, a minority individual cannot hide their being a minority, period. That is a large difference but the reasoning made by the gender issues advocates is that they should be able to announce and make their difference from the traditional majority without any reactions.

What does one believe would be the reaction if my wife and I entered an establishment which was known to favor people who live alternate lifestyles and we announced we were a traditional couple. Hopefully we would be accepted and not made to feel out of place and uncomfortable. I would hope in most public institutions that the same acceptance is shown people of non-traditional relationships or gender identities. Where the problem arises is solely when religion gets into the mix. This may be the single place where those who live nontraditional lifestyles or have other than traditional gender identities may have to found their own religious institutions or seek those which would accept them as they are. Should they instead choose a traditional religious institution they should expect to need to conceal, or at the least minimize, their nontraditional lifestyle or preferences. The same would apply to traditional individuals should they decide to become members of a religious institution which accommodates solely to people with nontraditional relations or gender identities.
