That So-Called Peace Between Hamas and Israel

The first thing one has to realize is that to Hamas this agreement is not an actual peace agreement as any in the West would consider, it is actually what in Islam is known as a hudna. The reality is that Hamas as an Islamic jihadist military unit, any other reference or description of Hamas is a pure falsehood, and they cannot enter into any form of actual peace agreement with an infidel, let alone the nation of the Jews. What they are permitted is to enter a hudna which is based upon the deal the prophet Mohammad struck with the Quraysh tribe that controlled Mecca in the seventh century where the peace was to last ten years but after two years Muhammad felt his forces were now sufficiently stronger than their enemies so he used a minor infraction as the excuse to negate the hudna attacking and destroying his enemies. This is the peace that Hamas has offered, a hudna just as they have twice before where after two years Hamas returned to warfare as soon as they had regained sufficient munitions to cause Israel potentially great amounts of damage and spread terror through continuous rocket attacks and surprise attacks using their tunnel systems which Israel eventually presumably destroyed as they located them. An agreed hudna with Hamas or Islamic Jihad or other Islamic forces only guarantees that they will return to violent assaults as soon as they reach a position where they feel confident that the situations are favorable for them to gain some form of victory. Such a victory does not necessarily mean an outright victory but in the case of Hamas such an advantage might be as simple as gaining greater access to the outside world or solely to their main supporters, Qatar and Iran. If any Western nation or groups of nations enter a hudna they would soon face a situation which may have been best described by Patrick Henry’s adaptation of the Bible verse from Jeremiah 6:14 while addressing the Virginia House of Burgesses during their debating whether or not to join the revolution against England and King George III where Mr. Henry orated, “Gentlemen may cry, Peace, Peace; but there is no peace.” Unfortunately I believe that this will describe the situation after this supposed open-ended ceasefire, probably an even better description for a hudna than most dictionary definitions as an open-ended ceasefire only continues as long as neither side takes it upon themselves to close the agreement ending the ceasefire and reestablish open warfare in a single moment without any necessity of informing the other side; they will likely figure it out fairly soon.

The problem many have with these repetitive conflicts initiated by Hamas concerns what results is Hamas actually aiming to reach? They obviously are not going to defeat Israel as the IDF has far greater capabilities and if the tome of battle were to turn against Israel, the IDF commanders only need be given orders to increase efforts and remove some of the restrictions on their troops when they consider opening fire on threats and targets they encounter. There have been estimates that IDF attacks, particularly IAF airstrikes, are called off or avoided simply because of innocents entering the field of fire or because legitimate Hamas targets were set up adjacent to protected target areas where civilians faced extensive casualties including fatalities had a full-on assault, bombardment, bombing or other means of combat been employed. Israel released a number of videos which depicted examples of IAF bombings being cancelled when the pilot informed his base that there were civilians, especially children, were entering the area and would be within the potential blast radius, especially if there were secondary explosions due to armaments being present within the targeted buildings or areas. The sole aim of Hamas is identical to that of the Palestinian Authority and Mahmoud Abbas, to use the modern day versions of the ageless anti-Semitic blood libels and poison Israel before the rest of the world engaging international NGOs, human rights groups and the various United Nations bodies and agencies with special efforts to gain a binding Security Council Resolution either forcing Israel to surrender the lands the Arabs lost after their attacks on Israel in 1967 and eventually a decree rescinding the establishment of Israel and the numerous treaties and agreements ending World War I, from the League of Nations and finally from the United Nations. It has been the Pan-Arab strategy ever since they were unsuccessful in 1967 and again, despite having complete surprise, in 1973. This intent has been part and parcel of Mahmoud Abbas as Yasser Arafat’s second in command from the founding of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) in 1964, a full three years before the existence of the so-called occupied territories unless you agree with Yasser Arafat and Mahmoud Abbas as well as Hamas and Islamic Jihad that all of Israel is occupied Arab lands.

Right now, unfortunately, the immediate problem in Israel is that many of the leadership who have controlled the politics for the past decades have tired of the repeated open terror conflicts, abductions, bombings, stabbings, rockets, mortars, rock attacks and the various other acts of violence losing their intestinal fortitude making them accept every offered cease in the violence even should they repeatedly prove to be simply false offers made simply to permit the terrorist forces to resupply and reposition before resuming their attacks. This was made excessively evident during the recent conflict with Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Israeli’s defensive efforts named Protective Edge. Prime Minister Netanyahu was so anxious each time Hamas proposed a ceasefire or even to suggested ceasefires by Egypt at a minimum even if he managed to resist the complete surrender conditional terms offered by some presumed allied powers. The Prime Minister appeared to be excessively sensitive to any criticism that his actions including firing a member of his own party from their position as an Assistant Minister in the Cabinet, shouting down demanding that the leader of another party cease his comments which were counter to the Prime Minister’s positions and accepting a ceasefire unilaterally only informing the members of his Security Cabinet after the decision had been made thus avoiding any difficulties a Cabinet vote may have caused. These actions by the Prime Minister came as for the first time in decades the vast majority of the Israeli people were in complete support for any military response the Prime Minister might have ordered including the retaking of Gaza and the complete defeat of Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the other terrorist groups in Gaza. The blowback of the Prime Minister acting with such timidity despite the supportive expectations from the Israelis drove his approval ratings down from their highest point of 82% at the beginning of the conflict down a full 44% to rest currently at 38% and likely to drop further; especially should Hamas break this ceasefire any time soon.

The problem is that as a parliamentary form of government the people do not directly elect the Prime Minister and instead can vote only for a particular party and whichever party gathers the most votes along with the necessary support of other parties in order to form a coalition which then chooses the Prime Minister, almost always the candidate chosen to lead the ministers of the party which was chosen to form the coalition. This means that as long as the old guard can manage to hold control over their party, something they often can continue to manage as these older leaders are the same people who tend to find ways of ordering the list for ministerships in any election where they can place their allies and supporters at the front end guaranteeing their continued control. This unfortunately means that any change is far more difficult and making any overt change in leadership or deviation in the positions the government represents. The proof of this can be seen by looking at the names in the names of those in the top positions and holding the most important ministerships over the last two decades where one will see some alterations but no across the board changes. Netanyahu, Livni and Lieberman have been in positions of importance of heading a party even if not in every coalition over much of that time and there are numerous other names with only a few changes such as Yair Lapid and Naftali Bennett and only time will tell if either of these newcomers will be capable of retaining their positions in the future, though I have a feeling one of them has a bright future. There have been increasingly loud calls for a reformation in how the leadership of the government is determined with many making such noises calling for an actual Constitution which will spell out a means for the direct election of the Prime Minister independent of the Knesset parliamentary elections. This idea will eventually be realized and very possibly much sooner if governments and especially Prime Ministers refuse to heed the desires and demands of the people and especially should future Prime Ministers ignore the wills of the people and act unilaterally circumventing their own Security Cabinet out of fear of conflict. Such actions if they become commonplace will force demands for such changes with far more immediacy. For now it will be interesting to see what happens should Hamas break this ceasefire anytime in the next six to ten weeks.

And They Ask Why Israel is Unable to Reach a Peace with the Palestinians

There may not be countless reasons why the Israelis have been unable to reach a lasting peace with the Palestinians but let us list a few of the reasons and actions which depict the roots of the difficulty. One of the most important impasses has been the fact that the Arab world as well as the Palestinians refuse to recognize Israel serving as the homeland of the Jewish people. They refuse to recognize that close to three thousand years of Jewish history was made in and around Jerusalem, Hevron, Shechem, Bethlehem, Jericho, Yafo, Ashkelon, Beersheba, Nazareth, and all of the land west of the Jordan River. They deny that either of the two Jewish Temples ever stood in Jerusalem on the Temple Mount and claim that the Western Wall was built in order to allow the construction of the al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock despite the wall dating back approximately one thousand years before the birth of Mohammad, let alone the building of the Islamic structures placed on the Temple Mount in order to supplant the Jewish Temples having been built there and also in an effort to prevent the construction of a third Jewish Temple. They claim that Abraham, Moses, Jesus and many other Jewish holy figures were Islamic and the Jews falsely claim them to be Jewish. The Jews have difficulty making any peace based on mutual recognition of each other’s rights as a people when the Arabs, both Palestinian and numerous others throughout the world, refuse to recognize that Jews have rights as equals with Muslims and demand that the Jews live as Dhimmi under Islamic rule and forfeit any claims to equality or rights of a citizen in their own state. The fact that as Muslims the Palestinians also believe that as the lands of Israel were conquered by Muslims and were once ruled by Muslims that the lands must forever be under Muslim rule otherwise a state of conflict must exist until the lands are returned to Muslim rule. But all of these are often dismissed as technicalities which could be resolved if the Jews would simply be reasonable and recognize the rightfulness of the Islamic claims to the lands and how the land must be ruled by Muslims while all others must live as Dhimmi under the protection of Muslims and under the Islamic code of Sharia relegating them to second class citizens at best.

Then there are the more visceral offensiveness often displayed by many of the Palestinian Arabs that do more than indicate the complete lack of respect but also a rancorous hatred by the Arabs for the Jews and Israelis in general. A recent example of such was the second time in five months that Palestinian Authority Arab residents of Beit Umar, located between Halhoul and the Etzion Bloc and not far from Hevron, have placed a Nazi flag over a major thoroughfare where Jews pass in their vehicles simply to serve as an insult and instigation for further ill feelings. This is committed while at the same time the Palestinian Authority leadership refuse to recognize the history and the fact that the Holocaust ever occurred. Their Holocaust denial stands in contrast to their claims that they will finish that which Hitler started and complete the final solution. This goes hand-in-hand with their celebratory celebrity status given to the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem Haj Amin al-Husseini who spent most of the time during World War II in Berlin or within the lands under Nazi rule where he lobbied very strenuously in favor of the eradication of the Jews of Europe and demanded that when the Nazis conquered the Holy Lands and the rest of the Middle East that the Final Solution be extended to deal with the rest of the Jewish people. The Mufti also recruited Muslim volunteers for the German armed forces operating in the Balkans forming two Muslim S.S. divisions. He also broadcast propaganda into the Middle East in an effort to turn the Muslim populations against the allies and into the service of the Third Reich and he was rather successful. The entire history of the Palestinian Arabs is a fabrication spun to follow loosely Jewish history and was crafted by Yasser Arafat and Mahmoud Abbas soon after forming the PLO as they saw that they could spin and propagandize into existence a false history establishing a Palestinian people that was indigenous despite there not being any history of such even during British rule or under Ottoman rule. They were aided greatly in this narrative by their handlers from the KGB which backed the efforts of the PLO as the Soviets backed the Arab nations against Israel from the late 1950s until the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Another reason that a peace has been difficult, if not impossible, has been the fact that whenever negotiations resume between Israel and the Palestinian Authority the levels of violence and numbers and severity of terror attacks greatly increase. In response to this increase the United States and the Europeans treat it as something for which Israel must simply endure and they claim that it is simply a strong reason for Israel to make concessions and do whatever is required to appease the Palestinian demands and thus allow for a peace to be reached. The Palestinian Authority also use this lenience bordering on permission from the Western leaders as a blessing to continue their violence while making even more demands. No matter what Israel offers the Palestinian Authority negotiators demand even more. Even President William Jefferson Clinton admitted after the Wye River negotiations that Yasser Arafat turned down what was probably the best offer that could have been expected and which, according to President Clinton, met 99% of what Arafat was demanding and yet he simply turned down the offer and simply walked away not even offering any new deal or compromise. It was soon after this that Yasser Arafat ordered the start of the Second Intifada which claimed over one thousand Israeli lives before Israel finally replied with the IDF going into the Palestinian areas within Judea and Samaria breaking up the terrorist networks and destroying their supplies of weapons, explosives, bomb belts, and other terror supplies and stores. The given fact was that Ariel Sharon had entered and defiled the al-Aqsa Mosque was proven to be a lie. It was confirmed by Suha Arafat, Yasser Arafat’s wife, after his death that he had ordered the Second Intifada immediately after returning from the failed negotiations and that he had planned them before leaving for the Wye River negotiations. Furthermore, anybody who has paid even the slightest of attention to the growing litany of demands, preconditions, and presumed Israeli obligations which are regularly carried out and demanded before the press by Mahmoud Abbas have realized that the list is virtually never ending and that if Israel were to surrender even half of the demands in order to make peace then there would be no Israel as a result.

Palestinian society is inundated with anti-Israel, anti-Semitic, and anti-Zionist propaganda through their music, television, radio, media, school lessons, textbooks, political speeches, and every possible avenue in their society that terrorists are honored, terrorism is highly valued, and hatred of Israel and the Jews permeates everywhere they turn. They name roads, parks, schools, soccer teams, tournaments, parades, playgrounds, summer camps and everything possible after terrorists usually choosing those who either died in what they define as a glorious manner killing the hated Jews or those who were the most deadly murderers of civilians. They often refer to these terrorists as holy warriors fighting in their holy Jihad against the occupier Jews yet if Israel replies in any manner using IDF troops the Palestinians then decry that Israel is using the weapons of war against defenseless Palestinians. In their version of a just world the Palestinians are permitted to utilize any and all methods and opportunities to kill Israeli civilians but Israel must never be permitted to defend and fight against even the terrorists. They have become excellent propagandists often utilizing the same methods utilized by the Nazis and the Soviets in their implementation of using news, music, and all forms of communication in order to inundate and indoctrinate their population as well as representing their plight to the world demonizing the Israelis for wanting to live in peace in their own land. When those the world demands you make peace with will agree only that you have the right to the peace of the grave and that they not only intend to put you into one, they plan to dance on them once your covered, providing they can wait that long, then making a just and honest peace becomes impossible. Many ask what would it take for the Arabs to make peace with the Israelis. The only way that even a temporary peace could be reached would be if the Israelis threatened to conquer sufficient Arab territory that making some form of peace would save them, then they would agree to make a Hudna. What many in the West do not understand is that in Islam there is no word for peace. They divide the world into two spheres, the lands of Islam where Islam rules and the lands of war where Islam will eventually defeat them and rule these lands in the end of all struggle. To the Muslims the only way the world can have real peace is when Islam rules over all of the Earth and all the inhabitants are followers of Islam. When the Muslims make a treaty they call it a Hudna which is a peace which is to presumably last ten years or until the Islamic forces feel they are strong enough to prevail on the field of battle. A Hudna may not be broken by the non-Islamic forces and can only be broken by the Muslims when they are confident of victory and not before. Even the supposed ten year limit could technically be extended should the Islamic forces remain inferior and unable to be assured of victory. Who would not desire to enter into a Hudna styled peace agreement knowing the truth? Such a deal they have for us.

United States Longest War

Ask most people what the longest war the United States has ever fought and you will most likely get Afghanistan as the answer. The only problem with this answer is it only states the most recent battle of the longest of wars in which the United States has been engaged. The truth is that the war the United States has been fighting in Afghanistan as well as in Iraq are but battles in a generational contest in which the first shots were fired in the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean off of Northern Africa even before General George Washington accepted the final surrender from British General Cornwallis after the battle of Yorktown. The United States was founded already in a state of war which eventually would become known as the War with the Barbary Pirates. After two separate campaigns the Barbary Pirates were forced into signing a treaty ending their attacks and kidnappings on United States merchant vessels. This signaled an end to aggressions as far as the United States was concerned, but not so for their adversaries who simply had made a Hudna, a temporary end to a conflict taken by Muslim forces and nations when their enemy is more powerful than themselves. A Hudna differs in one significant manner from an actual peace treaty, it is a temporary form of a truce which is intended to be broken whenever the Muslims believe they have gained the advantage and are able to defeat their enemy.

This war of which this writing refers had its beginning in the city of Medina with the rise of Mohammad as the leader of a tribe who made up the first Muslim Army. Once gaining a strong and able army, Mohammad wrote a whole new set of rules and laws for the religion he was founding. No longer was it necessary to honor other religions or people as had been the case in Mecca where the first parts of the Quran was written. In Medina the Quran spoke of mutual respect and honoring the rights of those who were different. Such was no longer necessary and the sections of the Quran written in Medina spoke of the supremacy of Islam and the requirement to spread Islam until it becomes the only religion on Earth. These two separate faces of Islam has come to serve the Muslims well as it allows them to coexist in peace when their numbers are small and they are the strangers in a new land and to impose their religion once their numbers have reached a critical level. This war which was first declared in Medina with Mohammad and his rise to lead and eventually rule in Medina and set in the Quran the ideology that Islam must become the sole and supreme religion on Earth. Even with the death of Muhammad in 632AD this aim of spreading Islam throughout the world has never died. This long war has lasted emerging out of the Arabian peninsula continuing through the Crusades, the wars between Muslims and the Hindus in India and in modern times between Pakistan and India, the many permutation of the Arab-Israeli war, the Balkans conflict over Kosova, the Chechen conflict with the Russians, and even the current Shiite-Sunni conflict which is an intrinsic part of the Civil War in Syria among other conflicts throughout Islamic history.

The actual beginning of hostilities between the Barbary Pirates and the United States was initiated by President Thomas Jefferson despite his strong aversion to engaging in foreign conflicts, treaties or alliances. Thomas Jefferson’s initial contact with Islamic culture came in the company of John Adams when they were the ambassadors to France and Britain respectively when they met the ambassador from Tripoli and inquired as to why his countrymen were attacking American merchant ships and abducting their sailors. The ambassador answered honestly and simply responding, “That’s what we do. We are commanded to do so by Allah. It was written in their Koran that all nations which had not acknowledged the Prophet were sinners, whom it was the right and duty of the faithful to plunder and enslave; and that every Mussulman who was slain in this warfare was sure to go to Paradise.” When Jefferson became President he decided that paying the Jizya to the rulers in Tripoli who were demanding more tribute every year had become overly expensive and endangered the future of the United States. President Jefferson stopped making the payments which resulted in a first of two wars between the Barbary Pirates and the United States. Where there was eventually a treaty ending that war, the Barbary Pirates once again returned to attacking merchants of the United States resulting in a second Barbary War.

Whether the current hostilities in Iraq and Afghanistan since 9-11 are actually a continuation of the Wars with the Barbary Pirates would be a stretch, the underlying rationalizations and justifications which led to those conflicts are attributable to the Quran. Don’t believe this article, simply take the words from the al-Qaeda Fatwa issued three years before the attacks on the World Trade Center twin towers in New York City which stated, “We — with God’s help — call on every Muslim who believes in God and wishes to be rewarded to comply with God’s order to kill the Americans and plunder their money wherever and whenever they find it. We also call on Muslim Ulama, leaders, youths, and soldiers to launch the raid on Satan’s U.S. troops and the devil’s supporters allying with them, and to displace those who are behind them so that they may learn a lesson.” The supposed original sin committed by the United States and their allies was their response to requests by the Royal Family of Saudi Arabia who requested aid as they felt directly threatened by Saddam Hussein when he attacked and overran Kuwait in August 1990. The United States entered Saudi Arabia in order to defend a Muslim nation from the seeming imminent invasion from a dictatorial expansionist lunatic. For risking the lives and paying a terrible cost in both personnel’s lives, equipment, and funds in efforts to protect a Muslim nation, Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda declared a holy war against the United States which led directly to the death of nearly three thousand Americans on September 11, 2001 to which the casualties in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars and the numerous terrorist attacks since all originating in that initial fatwa. The honestly saddest reality of this is the numbers of casualties and destructive actions are nowhere near reaching an end. How long and the final cost of this longest of wars may not be finished being tallied in our lifetimes, and that is truly the most regrettable of truths.
