Is Israel Necessary?

Most of the animus and hatred towards Israel is against the Jewish People as well. The scorn and defamation used against Israel are simply adjusted forms of anti-Semitism modeled to target the Jewish State instead of targeting the Jews themselves. Many of the accusations heard against Israel today can be traced linearly to the anti-Semitisms in both the East and West, in Christian and Muslim worlds which permeated their lexicons throughout centuries since the inception of both religions. Both Islam and Christianity claimed to have replaced the Jews defining the Jews as cast from Hashem and now a tool of Satan. Islam also claimed to have replaced Christianity which should make them just as wary and nervous over Islamic extremism (in reality it is actual essence of Islam and not some stray sect but the mainstream in Islam) and the threats they pose and even proclaim loudly for all to hear. But is Israel necessary or is its existence a causal effect stoking stronger anti-Semitism as a result of Israel’s existence. This will depend on whether people are willing to be objective and honest when addressing the problem just existing has been for the Jew living in much of the world, specifically the Christian West and the Islamic East.

The very first item one need get their arms around is that people in the West have been fed a romanticized version of the history within the Islamist world. The Jews know this first-hand as in Israel our population is spread fairly evenly between those who fled, were exiled or otherwise forced from Christian lands and those who fled, were exiled or otherwise forced from Islamic lands. The stories bare a striking commonality, when things went well, the Jew was left to live on the fringes of society and not permitted equality with their hosts and always eyed nervously and when things were less than exemplary, then it was the Jew who bore the brunt of the blame and was the group which was always just a crisis away from persecution, torture, pogrom, being run out of town or simply being executed for being a Jew, the obvious source of all ills. Most of the Jews who came to Israel from Europe after World War II and soon after her declaration of independence arrived with the clothes they were wearing, often tattered and torn to the point of not being recognized as suitable clothing and maybe a small satchel with everything they had left in the world, often worth next to nothing as many carried pictures of their relatives who perished in the death camps. The decade after Israel survived her initial war, where six Arab armies and a slew of militias attacked the nascent state on the first morning of her existence in what was supposed to be a simply slaughtering of the Jews, the Arab World spat out their Jews after stealing everything of any value. Fortunately, nobody informed the Jews about this and Israel, despite losing Gaza to Egypt and Judea and Samaria to Jordan, retained the remainder of what was allotted Israel by international treaties and conventions convened after World War I. The reestablishment of Israel was decided in the aftermath of World War I and thus was a fact in the making before the Holocaust, so Israel was not founded because of the holocaust, the Holocaust was partly due to the British refusing to permit the Jews to declare their independence and working behind the scenes with the Arabs in attempts to delay and eventually renege and not permit Israel to be born. The Jews are a pesky bunch as once they get their mind set on something, they usually attain that goal, and Israel was no exception.

During the decade after the birthing pains inflicted by the Arab invasion which cost the lives of nearly ten percent of the population of the state of Israel, the Arab world had their cleansing ritual where over eight-hundred-thousand Jews were expelled by various means from across the Middle East and Northern Africa, mostly the Arab Islamic world plus Iran, and were taken in by Israel. These Jews from the Islamic world had been stripped of all wealth; most of their possessions, family heirlooms, businesses, homes, vehicles, jewelry even down to ornate picture frames and anything that glittered were stolen. They arrived in Israel with their clothes on their backs and if fortunate, a suitcase or two per family. Unlike their Arab refugee brethren, mostly the Arabs consisted of those who heeded the Mufti of Jerusalem when he bade them to take refuge behind the Arab armies and then they could return in a few days and share the wealth of the Jew; the Jews welcomed their brothers and sisters and despite financial hardship, they took them to their bosoms and built Israel together. The Arab refugees waited and after two years of fighting where the Arab armies failed to destroy Israel, the Arabs rounded up their faithful who had done as the Mufti demanded, and they placed them in refugee camps where they and their offspring have languished to be used as a weapon against Israel and the Jew. This is why truth be told, Israel Never Placed a Single Arab in a Refugee Camp. That is true despite all the lies you may have heard about what the terrible Israelis did forcing all these Arab refugees into camps for generations; it was, is and apparently will continue to be an all Arab project loaded with their spin of propaganda which they employ in their attempt to destroy Israel.

The Arab League, after the Six Day War, met that September and adopted the Khartoum Resolution with what is known as the “Three No’s”, “No peace with Israel, No recognition of Israel, and No negotiations with Israel;” which can be translated into a single no, no Israel. This has been their starting and ending point for all attempts at finding a solution, including the results even if not obviously the exact words of the Khartoum Resolution, they kept the spirit. So, exactly what do the Arabs and Islamic world desire? That is an easy one to answer, they will accept any peace where Israel is placed under Arab rule, the Jews are to be treated with the same respect as they were in Medina, and then there will be a second Holocaust, as close to seven-million Israelis who are Jewish will be murdered and the over one-hundred-thousand Christian Israelis will be made to be Dhimmi if they are fortunate and murdered with the Jews as there will be an attempt to make the prediction from 1948 so succinctly by Azzam Pasha, Secretary-General of the Arab League at that time who stated, “It will be a war of annihilation. It will be a momentous massacre in history that will be talked about like the massacres of the Mongols or the Crusades.” But the main reason that there exists a necessity for the state of Israel does not have to do with her current population, they are safe for as long as the IDF remains strong and motivated. What it does have to do with are the Jews still living in the Diaspora as they will sooner or later face times of oppression and active attempts at extermination and their only refuge will be Israel.

Today, Israel is approaching the point where half the World’s Jews reside in our homelands. These are the homelands of ours after many painful compromises, surrenders as without a nation and an army, how does one contend with the British Empire whose soldiers populate the entirety of your lands and refuse to leave. This is where the tale actually begins. After World War I and the defeat of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire, Greater Germany and the Ottoman Empire by the Allied powers, the lands of the losing side were cut into numerous nations with each of the allies given lands from the Ottoman Empire to oversee reconstituting some form of governance. (For a map of the resultant division in Eastern and Central Europe and the Balkans click here) Below is a map of what was the British Mandate for the establishing of a homeland for the Jewish People. The British made a clerical decision that their mandate to use these lands for a homeland for the Jews meant that some of the land would be used for such and the British could do as they pleased with the remainder. Their initial desire was to keep their promise to the Hashemites and provide a kingdom for both of Hussein ibn Ali al-Hashimi’s sons. Thus, Faisal and Abdullah were crowned with Faisal becoming the king of Iraq and no lands for Abdullah. But the British had a solution and they approached the Zionist Congress, a group of Jews armed largely with pens with which to write to newspapers and officials, but nary a useable gun between them, and proposed that the British Mandate become two lands, one Arab and one for the Jews. The British suggested the Jordan River would make for the perfect boundary with the 78% to the east of the River becoming Jordan under Abdullah, and the remaining 22% would be for the Jews, they promised, solemnly, which means they did not mean to leave well enough alone. The Zionist Congress agreed as what else could they have done. So, any Jews who were residing, farming, tending herds or anything east of the Jordan River found themselves forced to abandon their stake and hastily make for the western side of the Jordan where they would be safer. When the United Nations, which under Article 80 of the Charter is supposed to enforce the Mandate system as received from the League of Nations, broke their support for the original British plan and decided that there needed to be two states for two peoples west of the Jordan River. This is the original two state solution. Once again, those responsible for making decisions for the Jews accepted the United Nations compromise, as they did not see any alternative at that point. The Arab League rejected this proposed solution as they had already planned to take care of these upstart Jews as soon as they claimed to be a nation. As this was a General Assembly Resolution, as soon as one side refused it, the resolution is considered dead and buried, well, except this one. The Arabs have claimed that they would accept this solution now but it is no longer considered viable. Truth is, Israel is residing on 22% of the lands initially set aside for the Jewish State and this is too much for the world, they want Israel to be smaller. How much smaller? Well, how small can you make it; can you make it so small that it disappears? That the world would accept with great fanfare and celebratory parties around the globe.

But Israel has managed to not only survive, but to thrive, and this rankles a great number of people. But despite all of her successes, Israel has not yet fulfilled her true purpose, a purpose which despite our hopes that this never becomes the case, we see the world and know the true test for Israel will soon be upon us. Israel is the safety catch for Jews which we have had to survive without for approximately two-thousand years. During the Holocaust and all the horrors which were World War II, for Jews there was a specific horror as it opened wide the world body and revealed a darkened heart which had no mercy, concern, care nor compassion for the Jew. This was the Voyage of the Damned, the ship was the luxury cruise liner M.S. St. Louis which left Germany with over nine-hundred Jews fleeing the Nazis who had papers and all the right permissions to disembark at Cuba. Bending to pressures from within and without, the Cuban government reneged on their permissions cancelling their papers refusing to allow them to disembark. The M.S. St. Lois made her way back to Europe with every nation she passed along the way refusing to take any of the Jews except for a small number, some who had British citizenship and some who found any means of not returning to Germany. Most of the passengers who were returned to mainland Europe did not survive the war with many finding death at the hands of the Nazi death machines at Auschwitz and Treblinka. These Jews had no Israel, and this is why the world required an Israel.

Looking around Europe and the rest of the world and witnessing the ever-climbing occurrences of Jew hatred in all the forms of anti-Semitism, and the need for an Israel becomes excessively evident. Jews have been denied marching in LGBTQIA events, the Women’s Day March and numerous other events which are part and parcel of the intersectionality definition of those causes which are acceptable and those which require the exclusion of all who support it or are suspected of supporting those unincluded causes. Israel is at the very top of the list with a whole set of sub-causes attached. One of the disqualifying traits is being too obviously Jewish and thus appearing to support Israel. The sole means of breaking from such labeling is to openly and with great ardor supporting the Arab cause and denouncing Israel louder and longer than anyone else, then, just then, maybe you will be permitted to join the intersectionality club. When the people of the far left and their endeared ones such as Ms. Omar, Ms. Tlaib, Ms. Sarsour, Ms. Perez and Ms. Mallory take the helm of the progressive causes in a decade or so, the relationship between Israel and the United States will be on thin ice. Each election will decide whether Israel is favored or targeted. From that point, it is but a slip on a banana peel to the complete rejection of Israel and the rejection of the Jews within the nation. When the United States reaches the point where her Jews are endangered, the signs should be noticeable, as this will follow after Europe has tread that same path a short while earlier. This is why the world needs Israel, if all the discoveries, cures, life improving technologies, agricultural miracles and all the other contributions which come from Israel were not sufficient, which apparently they are not. Israel has been a repository from more than Jews needing a safe place to which to flee. Israel, from 1977 to 1979, permitted approximately three-hundred-sixty Vietnamese boat people fleeing the 1975 Communist takeover of Vietnam to take up residence in Israel offering them citizenship if they so desired. Some of these refugees went so far as to convert to Judaism and their families still reside in Israel. Israel has treated thousands of Syrians who have fallen victim to the horrific civil war raging in that nation. Israel provides medical care for thousands of Palestinian Arabs each year despite the constant threat of terrorism coming from the Palestinian controlled areas. Additionally, Israel is often the first to have a fully operational field hospital set up wherever in the world a natural disaster or other calamity has taken place. These are just a small sample of the reasons that Israel should be viewed as a treasure and not shunned as a pariah as is proven all too often when votes are counted at the United Nations General Assembly and other activities by numerous United Nations agencies. Still, the number one reason the world needs Israel is simply as the place where they can send their Jews when they decide that they are no longer desired. That is a sad commentary on the world, but it is an unfortunate truth.

And the West Sleeps in Ignorance

We have had two Defense Ministers/Secretaries resign within a week or so of one another. The first being the Israeli Defense Minister, Avigdor Lieberman, who protested the lack of response by the Prime Minister, Bibi Netanyahu, to the firing of almost five-hundred rockets into Israel on and above the incendiary Balloons and Kites which destroyed wilderness preserves, forests and acre upon acre of farm lands which were almost ready for harvest bring months of toil and hard work by the farmers to naught. The second was the United States Secretary of Defense General James ‘mad dog’ Mattis who stated that his disagreement over pulling of American troops from the Middle East left him little choice and stated to the President was, “Because you have the right to have a Secretary of Defense whose views are better aligned with yours on these and other subjects, I believe it is right for me to step down.” In both cases, the holder of the Defense Portfolio felt that their service was no longer required simply because they had a diametrically opposing view to how the nation should address Islamic aggressions and towards terrorism in particular. This is actually representative of the reaction of the entirety of the Western World when it comes to their addressing Islam and its attempts to infiltrate and subsume Western civilization through a stealthy abduction through the ballot box.

Many on the left end of the political scale claim that any suspicions over the attempts by Islamic forces and interests to take over the Western nations through subtle use of the ballot box and hijacking of political parties is simple paranoia. Sometimes paranoia is based in real fears which demand attention even if most of the public are completely oblivious to the threat. We have a simple and now obvious example from the mid to late 1930’s. During this period a Jewish leader of bringing Jews to their ancient homelands in the Middle East, Ze’ev Jabotinsky, made numerous trips to Eastern Europe to speak with the Jews warning them that they were going to be killed and needed to move to Israel. He was met with derision and was even banned by numerous Rabbis from speaking to their congregants. Many a town would threaten him with violence and he was chased out of the area. Well, the few who did listen to him survived the Nazi takeover of most of Europe exterminating as many Jews as possible in every one of those very same communities which Ze’ev had visited. In too many cases there are no survivors to tell what their Rabbis had to say once they were in the Concentration Camps and realized what was about to occur. Europe has been inviting the waves of Islamic men largely of military age without women or families into their bosom. Germany’s Chancellor Merkel led this wave of inviting unrestrained Islamic immigrants with her announcing that Germany was open before them and welcoming their immigration, or should we call it what it really is, infiltration.

France has been an example of the results of this influx of Islamic population with increases of 50% and 60% in acts of overt anti-Semitism in the last few years. The increase in Islamic population cannot account for the entirety of these increases such that it has become obvious that the increases in anti-Semitism while triggered by the influx of Muslims with anti-Semitic beliefs brought over from their former homes has made the expression of anti-Semitic feeling more acceptable and thus brought out the formerly subverted anti-Semitism into the open. These results can be seen throughout Western and Northern Europe (Old Europe) but has been less represented in the former Warsaw Pact nations who have mostly closed their borders to the Islamic immigration waves. Europe is witnessing in the affected countries the rise of political parties catering to the Islamic ideas or even completely new Islamic parties both of which have given the newcomers an increased voice in governance. This will eventually subsume the normative parties simply by using the leftist ideas of multiculturalism and that all cultures are just as valid as any other along with their secular humanistic hatred for Judeo-Christianity and the ethics which come with these beliefs. Add to this their claim that any selective rejection of Islam, even should it be entirely valid, is still a sign of blatant discrimination and Islamophobia. The term Islamophobia is wielded with the same efficiency as a barbarian axe was wielded bringing the fall of the Roman Empire. This charge of Islamophobia and the alliance of the left with the Islamic influx will eventually succeed in their quest to remove any and all of the Judeo-Christian influences throughout much of Europe. The surprise will come when once they have eradicated all Judeo-Christian influence and instead of their secular humanistic ethos, they are facing Sharia and a strict Islamic influence. The Gay community will quickly return to the closet or be murdered for their lifestyle. Women will find themselves encased in the burkas with only their eyes showing and just enough so they can see where they walk. Of course, they will not need to see where they are going, as they will be required to have a male relative escorting them wherever it is they need to travel. Women not dressed in burkas or traveling by themselves will be subject to anything from taunts to being raped, as they are obviously loose women. Further, any women reporting being raped will be stoned to death as a harlot, only making such a reaction to women walking around unescorted or dressed improperly all the more common.

We know, we are being ridiculous, this would never happen in such cosmopolitan places as Paris, Vienna, Rome and the rest of the major European cities. Sorry to report, but this is already the case in parts of many European cities such as Paris, Amsterdam, London, Manchester and all too many more. Women traveling through on buses or trains require protective escorts just to travel through some of these zones. Anybody caught drinking alcoholic beverages face harassment or attack with an extreme beating resulting if they do so within an Islamic area of these cities and towns. The face of Europe is changing and from appearances, the Muslims are not even waiting to have a majority in any of these cities before demanding that the laws and institutions be altered to comply with their Sharia and the Quran. There are already Sharia Courts in numerous European countries which operate on a completely separate set of laws than the nation is accustomed. How much longer until the Islamic influence erases the Judeo-Christian ethics and how will the people respond when facing Sharia as the new law in town.

Imagine Paris without its theaters, without dance halls or discotheques, without bars or bistros, without alcohol, without movie theaters and without chorus lines. Imagine London without pubs. Imagine Germany without beer halls. Imagine Amsterdam without gay clubs. Imagine Europe looking more like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iran or Algeria. Imagine Europe bereft not only of anything Christian, but devoid of Jews and completely under Islamic influence and Sharia as the law of the land. Imagine Europe without even the slightest remnant of freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of thought. Imagine Europe as an extension of the Middle East and Northern Africa. That is the logical extension of many of the current political philosophies. The concept that all political visions are the same, all philosophical systems are equal, all religions produce identical societies and that Islam is no different than is Christianity. All of these thought processes are completely bereft of facts. If these concepts were true, then there would be little difference between Iran today and Germany today. This is an obviously absurd idea as they are very different with Germany still remaining a free society while in Iran one can be arrested for thought crime or for being an adversary of the state. In Germany, the government is elected from a ballot which includes anyone who desires to run while in Iran the Mullahs and Supreme Council choose which candidates they know will support their continued ruling of the nation and will rubber stamp their demands and these are the only people permitted to run for office. That is not a free or open election system; it is simply the glossy cover of oppressive governance. That is what is coming to Europe if the people do not awaken to the threats on their doorsteps which currently most of them are welcoming into the bosom of their countries. There is a difference between the separate philosophies and there is a huge difference between those systems based on the Judeo-Christian ethos and those based on Sharia and Islam. From the first the world derived freedom of thought, the integrity of the individual, freedom of religion and the general freedoms which made the Western World the leaders of the modern world while the other produces stagnation, no free thought, only Islam as the accepted religion, everyone must obey Islam which means surrender or submission. Islam can be compared to the pre-Reformation Church where the Pope was the one who laid out the law and none were free to believe otherwise. The best example of such was Galileo who was restricted to house arrest for much of the end of his life for reporting what he saw in his telescope. Had it not been for England having a despotic ruler who believed in freedom of thought and that science was of a benefit to the kingdom, much of modern science would have remained in the darkness. In the Islamic world, after their “Golden Age” that is exactly what occurred.

After the loss of the Ottoman Empire during World War I and the subsequent occupation and fairly quick exit of Europe from the divided up Ottoman Empire (see map below) the Islamic world came to the conclusion that in order to regain their preeminence which they held in their former times, they should return to the age of conquest that they enjoyed under Muhammad and immediately thereafter. Under this interpretation of their best way to regain their proper place in the world, they began to turn to military reactions to anything they saw as contrary to their best interests. The initial and still number one item which they take exception to is the very existence of Israel. The fact that the “accursed Jew” has taken control of a piece of the Islamic Waqf, permanent Islamic lands which must never be permitted to fall into other hands, is by far the greatest insult that Islam could ever suffer. Had it been anybody but the Jews who ruled Israel, Islam might have eventually come to grips with it and set out to simply make life difficult and wait for the interlopers to leave. This was what they did with the Crusaders, Napoleon and the Europeans who had colonies or mandates in the Islamic lands of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). They claim that they will also do this with the Jew because, like their propaganda, Israel is just a white European occupation. That is interesting as half of the population of the Jews in Israel came from the MENA nations who dispossessed themselves of their Jewish populations by and large in the 1950’s when they made almost one million Jews exiles after stripping them of any wealth including taking their money and bank accounts, taking their jewelry and taking anything else of value plus their inspectors often took pieces of clothing they found attractive when checking their bags to assure they were not stealing anything of value. According to their governments, anything a Jew had which was of any real value must have been stolen from one of the members of the true faith of Islam; no Jew could have ever earned such things of wealth. Still, the Muslims think that the Jews will simply disappear and return to Europe, Russia and wherever else. The problem is that even should most of the Israeli Jews wish to go elsewhere, no nation would accept them, this we know from the Shoah when Jewish refugees, such as those on the MS St. Louis who were refused entry by Cuba, the United States, Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Ireland, England except for a few who had British citizenship papers, and ended up back in Germany. Israelis are home and will not be going anywhere, even if the world had open arms for us, which it does not.

Back to the two Defense Ministers/Secretaries who resigned because of differing opinions with their respective Prime Minister/President and what it has to do with the spreading of Islam. Both resignations were made due to what they interpreted as weakness in the face of terrorist activity. Lieberman resigned over the lack of action against the Hamas rocket barrage and Mattis resigned over President Trump pulling the American forces from Syria and much of the remainder of the Middle East. Without deciding if their actions were wrong, we can still discuss their reasoning. Lieberman deeply lobbied for a strong and even decisive assault on Gaza which may or may not have preempted the ability for the IDF to operate in the north where it has found a number of Hezballah tunnels stretching into Israel which could have been used in the future for infiltration and attacks. There are many in Israel who question the statements made by some of the General Staff that Israel would be stretch to the breaking point or beyond if she ever was required to fight both Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Gaza and Hezballah out of Lebanon. Lieberman believed that the IDF was fully capable of doing an insertion operation to defang Hamas and Islamic Jihad while handling the operation in the North. The Prime Minister thought otherwise and likely had the support of the General Staff who likely claimed that to do both would require calling up most of the reserves and putting the nation on a total war footing which would severely hamper the economic health of Israel. We have noticed the propensity of the Israeli General Staff to make everything sound like a near impossibility, something the IDF has proven that, with the proper time and intelligent planning, they are capable of conquering virtually every challenge put before them and often with minimal numbers of reservists if any being required to be called up. Another item is that reservists need to understand that they can be called up with minimal notice and be prepared to take on any challenge at a moment’s notice.

Mattis, on the other hand, resigned as he felt that the United States required some forces to remain in the Middle East to combat terrorism which has shown a definitive propensity to grow from nothing into a major threat in a short period of time. President Trump, on the other hand, was making good on his promise to neuter the Islamic State and then have the United States leave much if not all of the Middle East. While the leaving of the United States presence in Syria leaves both Israel and the Kurds facing imminent threats, the Kurds have definitively the greater threat. President Trump has stated that he was given assurances from Turkish President Erdoğan that his forces would not sweep through killing the Kurds in northern Syria and Iraq. We hope that President Trump did not actually believe that promise as we can assure him that within a month of the American pullout, the Turkish troops will continue their eradication of any Kurdish population of note in northern Syria and may even sweep into Iraq where Iraqi and IRGC forces are already attacking Kurdish forces and endangering Kurdish civilians in Mosul. Between the two Defense Secretaries/Ministers, Mattis was by far the more correct in his reasoning and reason for leaving. Lieberman can claim what he wishes to claim, the real reason he left the government was to make himself and his party appear to be more right wing and more nationalistic and having a stronger anti-terror position than it has proven to have. He was seeking gains in the polls and hoping to increase his party’s number of ministers in the elections coming at the end of next year at the latest. His was just as much a political move as it was one of principle, and of course, political moves often are aligned with moves on principle or the appearance thereof. Mattis, on the other hand, is retiring to his home and private life and likely has no political ambitions, thus his was a true resignation over opinions. Both still had the same message, take the Islamic threat to Western civilization seriously before it overruns the West.

As we have already noted, there has been a number of Islamist and even more anti-Israel and anti-Judeo-Christian ethos candidates elected to office with many of them being elected to the United States House of Representatives. These individuals were all members of either the Democrat Party or the Social Democrat Party, a more left-leaning wing of the party. What these also were was an indicator of what is in the future for the Democrat Party, a leftward swing with a strong Islamist flavor. This also means that the new Democrats who are their future will not be supporting Israel, as was traditionally a bipartisan support. The Democrat Party is going to increasingly oppose any and all support of Israel including refusing to veto anti-Israel resolutions in the Security Council. This will lead to numerous condemnations of Israel and possibly even to United Nations imposed sanctions and trade embargoes on the Jewish State. Once the newer Democrats take control of the Democrat Party and even take the White House, and we are talking about a Democrat President who would make President Obama appear to have been a Zionist, Israel will find herself without any aid from the United States, no spare parts for her American fighter jets and weapons systems and bereft of any protectional umbrellas which the United States had previously provided. This reality is something that Israel would be smart to anticipate as it may be coming sooner than anyone realizes, outside of our readers. Supporting Israel may have been another of Mattis’s reasons for resigning as the removal of the United States from Syria means that Israel is now more vulnerable to Iranian build-up of forces in Syria now that they will have a direct land route to Damascus from Tehran through Iraq. Further, it means that the United States will have little leverage against Hezballah in Lebanon and the main force from outside the Middle East in the region will be Putin and Russia. Fortunately, Israel does have decent relations with Putin and Russia but still will be facing renewed and new threats from Iran across the Golan Heights and from Lebanon as well as Iran now being able to easily transport the add-on guidance packages allowing Hezballah to install them on their larger rockets making them into accurate guided missiles capable of accuracy within a few meters or less. This is an existential threat to Israel which has been used to draw a red line, one which is probably of greater consequence than that of President Obama. Things are slowly but surely getting, as Alice might have said at her tea party, Things are getting “curiouser and curiouser.” Here’s hoping they do not get any more curiouser.

The Eternal Middle East Question

This eternal question is what will bring an end to the Arab-Israeli Conflict. The question presupposes that the question has an answer and the world has been chasing this presumably illusive answer for the past hundred years. They had the first worst answer initially as the British along with many others did everything they could to prevent the Jews from reaching the critical mass for them to declare Israel’s birth. The British realizing they could no longer prevent this inevitability simply left as quickly as they could arming the Arab forces while disarming the Jews as they left in one final attempt to prevent the success of the birth of the Jewish State. The Arab war of 1948 was best described by Azzam Pasha, Secretary-General of the Arab League at that time, “It will be a war of annihilation. It will be a momentous massacre in history that will be talked about like the massacres of the Mongols or the Crusades.” Obviously, his expectations were not met and the nascent state of Israel survived the year and a half of war. The main reason that there has not been peace came later as a result of the Arabs to their losses in the 1967 Six Day War. September, after the war, the Arab League met in Khartoum where they passed the Khartoum Resolution which included the Three No’s, “No peace with Israel, No recognition of Israel, and No negotiations with Israel.” This has continued to be the driving core of the Palestinian Arabs who will refuse any peace in which Israel remains ruled by any other than the Arab Muslims. This conflict has never been altered from the original stated desire of Azzam Pasha, the complete annihilation of the Jews and the total destruction of Israel.

So, the question is still being at the center of the Western World in their attempts to placate the implacable. They treat the conflict as a territorial conflict rather than a conflict of annihilation, the view the Arabs still cling to despite the seeming warming by the Sunni Arab states seeing Iran as a greater threat than posed by Israel. Just because they see Iran as a greater threat, this does not mean that they are willing to accept the existence of Israel in any permanence. Should Israel face some disaster leaving it vulnerable, the Arab nations would leap at the opportunity to destroy their nemesis. This is the reality which is not well understood in America and ignored by the Europeans and the United Nations, both of which know the truth. This is the reason that the Europeans are currently warming up to Iran as they see the Iranian nuclear program as the answer which will bring the Arab-Israeli Conflict to an end. They have little problem with the Ayatollah’s declaration that Israel is a one bomb nation. Of course, Europe plays both ends dealing with Israel to gain from their technological advances and soon receiving natural gas from Israel. On the other side, they also continue to provide much of the funding for the Palestinian Authority and UNRWA.

The Arab view of the conflict, as we have seen, is easily defined, the complete and utter destruction of the Jewish State and the Jews within her. The Israeli side of the conflict is also easily defined, peace. We would very much like for the international community to keep their promises made after World War I and allow Israel the boundaries agreed upon under the British Mandate resulting from the San Remo Conference. That would give Israel an eastern border of the Jordan River and would technically include Gaza. The real problem is what is to be done with the throngs of Arabs who came after the Jews provided a thriving economy, at least under Middle East standards for a nation without large oil reserves. This problem was further exacerbated by the British importing additional Arabs in their never-ending efforts to prevent the Jews from ever reaching a majority. Then there are the Arabs from Jordan transferred from Jordan often without their agreement and the Arab land giveaways to prominent Arab Jordanians who never resided in these lands, they were assigned to provide status and to place virtually over the land Jordan occupied illegally for nineteen years under Arab titles. These land giveaways are used by NGOs currently in order to prevent Jewish building beyond the Green Line. The Arabs will continue to refuse to absorb even a single Arab making any Arabs who might be deported due to their being illegally placed in the region by Jordan would be placed into even more refugee camps which would be claimed were illegally separated from their rightful lands. Any honest history from 1800 forward would document the fact that Arab presence in Israel was a trailing fact, not a leading fact. The Arabs came to Israel after the Jews had already built irrigation and businesses making for the Israeli rudimentary economy. By the beginning of the Twentieth Century there was a burgeoning economy resulting from increased Jewish settlement despite the attempts by the British to choke Jewish immigration into Israel. This was on top of the British making a present of 78% of the British Mandate to the Arabs which is the initial and actual developing of an Arab state separate from the Jewish state. In the intervening years while all remained under British protectorate rule, Jewish settlement in the area of Transjordan (today Jordan) was absolutely forbidden which meant that Jews who owned land east of the Jordan River were robbed of their lands. On the other hand, Arab settlement west of the Jordan River within what was to be the Jewish State was encouraged and often forced upon Arabs. This is the main reason for the current conflict which presents the world with a modern Gordian Knot.

The problem can be easily explained using as an example recent events since the arrangement of a ceasefire between Israel and the Hamas forces in Gaza. Israel used a very carefully planed and executed selective bombing of Hamas and Islamic Jihad bases and other tactical locations using roof knocking in order to clear the targeted buildings of any Gazans inside including Hamas and Islamic Jihad combatants. This method minimizes civilian and combatant casualties but Israel is so intent on preserving the lives of Gazans that the IDF literally sacrifices opportunities to kill Hamas and Islamic Jihad combatants as well. This is one of the tactics used by Israel that the rest of the developed world militaries are somewhat upset and claim that these Israeli tactics are beyond anything that the Western militaries are willing to employ as their intent to kill their adversaries outweighs the concern for innocents who might be caught up in their bombing. Israel is so dedicated to not harming any unnecessary individuals that Hamas and Islamic Jihad have too often protected their most important strategic buildings by placing women and children on the roofs which prevents IDF fighter jets from delivering their bombs to the target. This is also how they prevent the IDF from targeting their rocket launchers by inviting children to watch the rockets being fired and how they are reloaded and everything keeping them close to the launchers making it a safe zone free from Israeli fire. These are just a few of their tactics which they utilize and then claim that they defended these sights proudly and with great vigor and strength which prevented the Jews from being able to strike them. But these are the small things compared to what came after the ceasefire was agreed upon and the fighting ended.

Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar (pictured below) on the Friday after the ceasefire issued threats against the Jewish State. He spoke at a memorial service for Hamas terrorists who were killed during the clash with Israel. He was quoted as having stated, “I advise Israel not to try and test us again. This time you did not have a lot of casualties and you managed to rescue your special forces. You should not try again, because next time you will have to release thousands of prisoners.” This is a reference of the Hamas strategy of holding the bodies of any IDF soldier killed which the IDF was unable to retrieve hostage demanding thousands of terrorist in Israeli prisons be released in exchange for each body. They currently hold two IDF soldier’s corpses which they are refusing even to name a price for an exchange knowing that it pains their families leaving them without closure. It is just another attempt at torturing Israelis by any means they are capable, pollution of burning tires blown into Israel by the offshore breeze, burning of crops with incendiary kites and balloons, rockets launched into Israeli residential centers in the middle of the night, rioting which is covered on news internationally and boasts of their superiority to Israel in every field of endeavor and particularly in fighting a man’s war.

But Yahya Sinwar was not done exchanging insults as he continued by stating, “Our hands are on the trigger and our eyes are open. Listen Netanyahu, and listen whoever will receive the defense portfolio. Anyone who tests Gaza will find death and poison. If we are attacked, we will let the barrage on Tel Aviv do the talking. Our missiles are more accurate, have a longer range and carry more explosives than before.” He is not bluffing on this threat as Israel knows well that Hamas and Islamic Jihad have been provided with larger rocket engines allowing for greater ranges and larger payloads. The one limiting factor is the greater the range to their target, the smaller the warhead can be as it is a trade-off between the two regarding the limitations of the fuel. Still, Iran has found the means of providing ever-improved rocket engines and has started to provide Islamic Jihad and Hamas with rudimentary guidance systems just as they are providing for Hezbollah in Lebanon where they are modifying their longest range and largest payload rockets with these guidance systems in preparation for the next Lebanon offensive against Israel. This may come once the fighting in Syria has reached a point where Iran can also provide IRGC forces to attack the Golan Heights simultaneously. They may even attempt to coordinate having Hamas and Islamic Jihad attacking from the south as a preliminary front and then launch their combined attacks in the north from Lebanon and Syria. Such a conflict would inflict likely severe damages in Israel but these would be minor compared to what the response would do to Lebanon, Syria near the Golan Heights and Gaza as Israel would have little choice but to wage all-out war. In such a situation there would be no roof knocking before striking sites, this would be a war to end these threats permanently. Anything less would enrage the Israeli public who are growing impatient with responses which do little to end the threats and make the regions safe permanently, not just for a few months or possibly a year if we are fortunate.
