There is one subject that every candidate not able to honestly run on a Zionist campaign theme will spend their entire campaign avoiding speaking about is their position on reaching a peace with the Arabs and how granting them statehood over Judea and Samaria without gaining any restrictions on further demands, end of terrorism, end to hostilities and recognition of Israel as the nations state of the Jewish People. They will talk about how Prime Minister Netanyahu has not moved Israel any closer to peace with the Palestinians. They will bemoan the lack of programs addressing poverty. They will demand that Israelis vote their pocketbooks. They will call for free education, free childcare, free transit tokens for the poor, free food programs, and free stuff for everyone. They will denounce the financial inequality in Israeli society and the loss of the middle class. They will denounce the past leadership for every possible single economic inequality without explaining where the funding will come from. Some might even go to the populist favorite of making the wealthy pay their fair share while promising to equalize the distribution of wealth in Israeli society. They will dance around on every issue except the most important issue which should be the first issue on every Israelis mind; how to provide a safe Israel for all of her citizens from the Galilee to Eilat, from the Golan Heights to Sderot, from Tel Aviv to Beit El.

The question we must demand every candidate and political party must be made to address is what position they take on taking a strong stand against terrorism and in annexing in stages Judea and Samaria after every single terrorist act. All the talk about economic redistribution and establishing higher minimum wages is completely meaningless to anyone if they are not first safe and protected in their country. Yes, the economy is important but nothing will permit the economy to grow in leaps and bounds faster than an end to terrorism and that can only be established when there is a definite and strong price to be paid for every single act of terrorism. First Israel needs to annex Area C dunum by dunum and then move on to Area B and, if the lesson has not been learned, Area A. Once all of Judea and Samaria have been returned to the State of Israel in a response to terrorist acts, then it will take the stiff spines of the Israeli government to remind the world, the United Nations, the European Union, the European governments, the United States and the rest of the world of the promise made in 1920 at the San Remo Conference where the world gave the Zionist Congress and the Jewish People their honor bound promise to return their ancient homelands to their possession for their establishing the renewed Jewish State with the provision that all peoples living in those lands were guaranteed religious rights and legal land rights would remain protected. There was no demand that those residing other than the Jewish People were to be guaranteed political rights, the Jews were free to grant political rights as they chose, but only Jews residing within the lands granted to the Zionist Congress were to be guaranteed political rights. The formation and rights for the Jewish State of Israel had absolutely nothing to do with the Holocaust. It had everything to do with the granting of political and indigenous rights when the lands of the defeated Ottoman Empire were cut and delineated into individual nations by the victorious allies. Much of the decisions were decided by Italy, Britain, France, and Japan and recognized by the United States. The United States Congress passed a resolution recognizing the decisions made in the San Remo Conference of 1920 which was arranged in response to the decisions reached during the Versailles Conference, the Paris Peace Conference, and the other sections which made up The League of Nations Treaty Series which established the main concessions demanded from the defeated powers and established the largest establishments which not only assigned the establishing of the new map by the Sykes–Picot Agreement for the lands of much of the Ottoman Empire and also redrew the map of much of eastern Europe dividing up the lands of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire and redrawing the borders of Germany and placed financial demands on Germany and the rulers of the Austria-Hungarian Empire leadership and lastly the San Remo Conference which established the Jewish homelands. The establishment of the Jewish State was relegated to the British under their Mandate and the formation of a Christian state, Lebanon, and an Arab state, Syria, were relegated to France under their Mandate. The Mandate System was further ratified and reassurances granted by the United Nations in its Charter under Article 80.

The British reached an agreement with the Zionist Congress whereby in exchange for the Zionists relegating their claims to the Mandate lands east of the Jordan River stretching to the border of Iraq to be utilized to form an Arab State for the Arab population within the British Mandate which they granted rule over to their Hashemite allies as the sovereigns as compensation for their loss of their rule over Mecca and Medina to the Saudi Royals in exchange the British guaranteed that the lands west of the Jordan River was to remain inviolate to be the lands for the Jewish State. Perhaps the British need be reminded that the promises and honour of the British Crown is vested in the reserving of all of the lands west of the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea for the Jewish State of Israel no matter how much of an inconvenience keeping their word may pose. For the rest of Europe who appear more and more every day to be increasingly uncomfortable with the remnants of Jewish citizens remaining in their lands who also see fit to constantly denounce Israel demanding that Israel surrender every demand before the Arab demands which they knowingly realize will eventually lead to the end of the state of Israel and the eviction of its Jewish population there is a simple question, are they willing to take in these Jews who would no longer have a nation and should their Jews find themselves unwelcomed within Europe, where would these Jews find a new home without Israel? The Arabs already have twenty-two nations whose total land areas so dwarfs the lone Jewish state of Israel that the comparison should border on embarrassing that the world appears unable to permit this slight sliver of land at the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea to remain in Jewish hands. And to the Arab states which have repeatedly demanded that the Jews of Israel return to their lands from whence they originated, are they prepared to permit the half of the Israeli population to return to the Arab lands from which they or their parents or grandparents were forced from exiling them to Israel? With the rising anti-Semitism rising throughout the world it is beyond unseemly that while the Jews are to be made to feel and actually be made unwelcome in their current homelands that the one nation which will take them and give them a welcomed safe refuge and love them unflinchingly is also being put upon challenging its right to retain the small sliver of land the world made a faithful promise to reserve and protect until they could establish themselves within and then spent the majority of the next quarter of a century making their immigrations there, and their escape from the threats of the Holocaust even more impossible during the years of World War II, and then have hounded much of the past forty years pitifully demanding that they grant the Arabs a second state in addition to the state formed in over three-fourths of the original Mandate in exchange for promises of the remainder inviolate is beyond any measure of defined perfidy. But that is something Jews have come to expect as we have seen every form of persecution and survived every past attempt to dissolve our peoplehood and have out-survived every great power which raised its hand against us and we will survive your hands as well. This is what every party must promise to stand firm against and to assure that every inch that has been promised us from the first day that Abraham and Sarah walked over the river and into the lands surrounding Hevron to the day when Moses walked off over the hills and Joshua returned up to the lands where Abraham and Sarah first surveyed to the land which the Jewish People never entirely were driven from, to Jerusalem which has had a Jewish presence if not a Jewish majority since before the modern calendars of every peoples who counted their days from their first as a civilization, to the lands where we had built the Second Temple as Buddha and Confucius laid out their wise thoughts, to Jerusalem the city we have prayed facing for close to three thousand years, to the lands we were promised and to these lands where the Ten Commandments which serve as the basis for Western civilization, these are the lands every Israeli Party must make their pledge to protect before they promise anything else as without the lands the Jews cannot have anything else. The land is the first promise and all else flows from that.

Promise from a Zionist to the Internationalist Jew

To my brothers and sisters who are once again taking the path of transformation of man and society while dismissing those who have chosen to reestablish G0d’s gift and strengthen Eretz Yisroel to be our home and refuge when evil raises up once again. As you put your faith in the potential of goodness in mankind, please understand that I prefer to stand with the goodness of G0d. You go ahead and paint with your words a wonderful picture of a world that you can see right around the corner if only mankind would join you in your quest for the perfection of mankind. Me, I will celebrate the perfection of the L0rd and try to perfect simply myself through His laws and Torah though I know that at my best I will fall short. You search out that which is most noble within man and dream your dreams which cannot be until the day that was promised comes. You try and make the world perfect while I will remain content to pray to the L0rd our G0d to bring forth the day when he transforms mankind making him perfect. You keep your faith in mankind and I will remain faithful to the L0rd our G0d.

But allow me to tell you that you are not taking a new path which many of our fellow men have taken from the beginning of time always with the same disastrous results. Let me regale you with just a few examples from history from many ages in which men attempted to perfect the world and stand as gods themselves. One of the earliest stories of men so employed were those who in their folly attempted to build a tower to the heavens so they too could be as G0d. They met with the confusion of their languages and the tower never really got off the ground. The builders of the Tower of Babel met an end that was the most fortunate likely as theirs was such an innocent and misguided folly that the L0rd could not see to be harsh with them. But put them back in their place He did with a kind hand; others have not been as fortunate.

Through the ages there have been utopian visionaries and utopian societies which had the answers to all of mankind’s problems. Some were fortunate enough to have their efforts rewarded with a following but none ever succeeded while others brought into existence some of the most horrid and oppressive governances ever witnessed by man. Two of these in modern times were the Soviet Communists and the German National Socialists. One proposed to have the most equitable and egalitarian economic system where all labor and wealth were to be shared equally by all within the society. Of course, with time we found that the few at the top of the power structure and the enforcement divisions proved to be just a little more equal than the rest. Even so, the eventual result of this dream was that man is not yet, nor ever likely to be, a perfect creature and the workers realizing the promise of an equal share independent of effort chose not to put out maximum effort and production declined and eventually everybody was getting an equal share of next to nothing. The other was going to breed the perfect society by the use of eugenics and planned breeding. The aim was to produce a super race of perfect humans who would rule over the lesser beings. Only the superior race would be considered human and all the others were subhuman to be used as worker animals and nothing more. This was not an acceptable route to perfection and the world eventually resisted and defeated this utopian nightmare. Just like Captain Nemo who set out to stamp out the violence of war using his advanced submarine the Nautilus; his produced result was even more horrific than what he was fighting against as he made victim of all without any differentiation between those who defended good and those who were evil. In every instance when man has sought to form a perfect society he has always fallen short because mankind is inherently imperfect.

When the next utopian society descends into a chaotic anarchical chaos or produces a singular elite which supersede their theoretical limitations taking dictatorial oppressive control and you turn to seek help, we will be here to offer refuge for you are still our brothers and sisters and in serving G0d we will not forsake you as He will not allow you to be forsaken. We may do so with a heavy heart because we had tried to warn you that your dreams would end in a nightmare but you insisted. We actually wished you would have succeeded and formed that perfect utopian society and would have welcomed such a result. But, just in case, remember we will always be here to love and care for you as you recover from your folly no matter how many times you insist you can master the frailties of man. This is how it will be for it is how it has always been. Please do us one favor please; do not ask that we participate in your utopian schemes and leave us with our dated, tried and traditional ways if for no other reason than as a place of safe haven in case your attempt to build your vision of heaven corrupts and fails as then you will need us and wish to seek our help. We cannot join your efforts and be your safety as those are mutually exclusive as your ideas are destructive to our ways. Your views of truths and solutions to problems are antithetical to ours and both cannot exist together in the same state. Ours is the state gifted us so we may live lives as dictated by Torah and G0d’s will and that is how it must be. We hold no animosity for you; we just are unable to adopt your desired changes in what must be. We will remain here and be for you a safety net for we can no more refuse you than we can refuse our right hand. Take your dreams and our best wishes and may we both attain what we seek and be there for each other when times of need or troubles darken our shores. We will pray for you even if you wish we would not, for that is our way.

Can Israel’s Image be Salvaged and Polished?

Once there was a time where Israel was seen for what she is, the tiny little country holding tenaciously onto a small, insignificant, former wasteland which was barely visible on maps which is surrounded by the entirety of the Muslim Lands which stretch from the North African Atlantic Coast all the way to the Indonesian and Philippine Islands in the Pacific Ocean. She was viewed as that sparkling gem of freedom, liberty, individual rights and democracy in the midst of a sea of oppressive, repressive, despotic, tyrannical states which crushed human spirit. Israel was once the underdog who had to scrap and fight for her survival against near unimaginable odds and who had managed successfully to do so at every turn. Israel once stood for equality of mankind, individual liberties, endless possibilities, religious freedoms, and unbelievable scientific and cultural achievements that not only survived but thrived against all of the odds stacked against her. What happened that took a place of such acclaim and hope and turned world opinions so horribly against her. How did Israel transform from her once proud and laudable stature into a nation spurned by the world at large, constantly answering charges of crimes against humanity, oppressor of religious beliefs, and usurper of Palestinian lands with an expansionist agenda eyeing all the lands between the Rivers Nile and Euphrates to expand and conquer for the sake of a Greater Israel?

The answer to this enigma is twofold, first is the rise of the ancient hatreds out of history and second the exquisitely planned and expertly executed assassination of the Israeli character carried out on all of the world’s stages beginning with the United Nations and finding its way into every new outlet even to include all too many within Israel herself. After the failure of the Armies of Egypt and Syria during the Yom Kippur War, which was launched in a surprise attack on Israel starting on Saturday October 6, 1973 which was both the start of Yom Kippur and the Sabbath, the Arab nations sought a different approach in order to defeat and destroy Israel. Initially, the combined forces made sizeable gains on all fronts before Israel fully mobilized, which took longer than usual as almost all public and private services and operations were on essential only staffing for the high Holidays, and mounted a counter strategy. This defeat of the combined forces of Egypt and Syria after scoring complete surprise and taking full benefit of every possible advantage available convinced the Arab World that a new, innovative and alternative approach was needed. Thus was the protracted victory through attrition due to terrorism and guerilla warfare tactics was adopted and with it the carefully planned and executed campaign to demonize Israel in every form of media, on every available stage in the world, and through commitment to use organizations such as NGOs and PACs. Quickly, this new tactic began to show progress in the world media the Arab and Muslim offensive to turn the Israeli reputation in the perspective of the world from shining gem and exemplary outpost of freedom in the Middle East to that of a pariah state brimming with oppression and guilty of the occupation of lands which rightfully belonged to the Palestinian People requiring the reestablishment of the ancient state named Palestine. Their success brought with it a steadily increasing number of nations, governments, unions, organizations, political parties, politicians, colleges and the United Nations with its entire assembly of NGOs and commissions.

So, against such an advanced campaign to delegitimize, defame, divest, boycott, and eventually destroy Israel, what can be done to prevent these schemes from eventually attaining their goals? The first step required appears to be counterintuitive, which is for Israel needs to stop apologizing and answering every single charge or allegation no matter how seemingly insignificant simply to attempt to prevent being overwhelmed by negatives. Israel needs to get out from under the repressive effects of the Oslo Accords which have been skillfully applied in a manner that has handcuffed Israel and those who protect her while having no ill or restrictive effects on the Arab, Muslim and Palestinian side. This step could be easily accomplished by taking two simple and immediate steps. The first is to file a complaint with the Security Council of the United Nations requesting they sanction the Palestinian Authority, Fatah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and the PLO for failing to amend the Palestinian Charter by removing the still standing section which calls for the utter and complete destruction of the State of Israel and the subjugation or elimination of its Jewish people. Follow up with pressure in order to get some response, even if it is simply a motion noting the Palestinian failure to comply without making it an actual judgment carrying a penalty for noncompliance. The other step is to provide the Palestinian leadership with copies going to the United Nations General Security Council, the United States, the European Union, Russia, all the leaders of European nations, all the leaders of the Arab and Muslim world and generally announce this last and final offer for peace through the establishment of a state for the Palestinian people called Palestine. This proclamation should state with accompanying map the borders Israel is willing to offer in this final attempt to reach an amicable peace. Where these borders are drawn is actually of little importance as the Palestinian leadership have painted themselves into a corner where they are unable to accept any peace proposal even if it contains each and every one of their wildest aspirations as by doing so they will have committed an unforgivable sin and would have to face the repercussions from their own people. This proclamation should also contain a second map which denotes the borders Israel is prepared to declare should the Palestinian leadership refuse this final offer. Once whatever deadline has been reached which was written into the offer, Israel should annex whatever sections of Judea and Samaria (West Bank) as they require or even simply desire and exile the leadership of the numerous terror groups along with the political leadership of the Palestinian Authority back to their pre-Oslo accommodations in Tunis, Tunisia.

Israel and the Israeli people need to recognize a truth about people and the ways in which the world works; nobody, no organization, no country, no world body, absolutely nothing will be kinder and like you more than you are able to express the same feelings about yourself. This is a basic truism about people and a basic truism that also applies to countries. As long as Israeli politicians, newspapers, organizations, broadcasters, or people are unable of praise and giving testimony to the goodness of Israel, the world at large will continue to disrespect, disregard, and assume the worst evils of Israel. If Israel really desires wiping the tarnish off her international reputation, she first must change her voice which speaks so loudly to the world which consists almost exclusively of detrimental degradations impugning Israel’s character and denouncing her rights for the respect shown a state who acts and rules honorably. One of the initial tasks which must be accomplished to rehabilitate the Israeli image in the world would be to either redirect or found new news services which speak in English and other languages other than Hebrew which take an attitude and view of Israel that is positive and not simply regurgitate echoing every claim and disparagement spoken by those who would erase Israel and likely the Jews from the face of the Earth given the slightest opportunity. If Israel but echoes the propaganda which are released by her enemies while ignoring the truth, then the world has but one side of the discussion and will never hear the other side, This has the effect of limiting the conversation to the only view being projected, the Israel is an evil and horrid entity. We have had a recent set of events which give perfect example to this phenomenon.

During Shabbat for the last month the Arabs, with incitement, encouragement, cooperation and support of Israeli Jews who hold great spite and hatred for anything Zionist in nature, set fires to the fields surrounding the Yitzhar community in Samaria. When emergency personnel arrived to extinguish the flames before they spread to the community and the homes within, they were greeted by the Leftist Jews and their Arab compatriots showering them with rocks attempting to deny their ability to put out the flames. When the residents of Yitzhar responded in kind to protect the firefighters, the leftist Jews from B’tselem made sure to catch this on tape. Afterwards, these leftist Jews further edited the tape and distributed to the television news departments and sent selected picture to the print media along with a suggested dialog scurrilously depicting the situation as the Jews from the community of Yitzhar as having started the fires and initiating an attack on the Arabs completely unprovoked. This was the sole evidence available as the Jews who live in Yitzhar are observant Jews and thus unable to film the confrontation due to the Sabbath. This past week they had received allowance from their Rabbis allowing them to film the altercations even on the Sabbath. This week the television news organizations received both films, the heavily edited film from B’tselem as well as the longer and unedited film from the Yitzhar community. The news outlets unanimously showed the B’tselem video while deciding not to show any of the Yitzhar taken raw film which showed the Arabs exiting a Red Crescent ambulance and setting the fires and one of the Arab men pulling a knife and setting to attack the firefighters. The Arab was wounded by IDF troops who were called to protect the firefighters and disperse the rioting Arabs and B’tselem Jews. Israel will have no chance of escaping the scorn and rebuttals from the world as long as the Israeli news organizations for the most part appear to be a further outlet for Al-Jazeera News or Palestinian Authority or Hamas Official News Station. The other side of this erroneous picture drawn by the liberal Israeli press has been the near total blackout of the ever escalating rock attacks and car-jacking being perpetrated by Arab gangs in Judea, Samaria and Arab neighborhoods of Jerusalem. These attacks have included daily incidents against the new Jerusalem light rail system which runs through one of the major Arab sections of Jerusalem.

Add the one last slant often taken by much of the world media is the propensity to report every single retaliatory strike by Israel in response to rocket and mortar attacks on Israeli civilians in the communities and cities within range of these munitions fired from Gaza. While the rocket and mortar attacks originate from Gaza where Israel has already removed all their citizens and all IDF troops from stationing within Gaza leaving all of Gaza under direct and independent Hamas rule, the Israeli retaliations target weapon storage facilities, rocket manufacturing locations, and the smuggling tunnels which cross the Gaza borders either heading to Egypt to facilitate supplies being brought to Gaza or to Israel which are used to infiltrate and attempt to attack or abduct Israelis. These reports almost universally report the Israeli strike in active and forceful terms while making only the slightest references to the initial rocket attacks and using passive terms to describe the terror strikes. This is also often the view expressed in Israeli television and other new sources. If Israel actually wishes to retrieve their former respect, then they must first recall the pride and justness of their actions and transfer this emotion and perspective to their reporting and make such the centerpiece of their activities with not only the rest of the world, but with each other in their everyday dealings and reporting. Simply reporting the entire story is all that is required. Israel has no need to pretty up the truth in order to be depicted as honorable, they have honorable as their source guiding their every move. All Israel and her reputation require to shine once again as the virtuous country they are is for the truth to be told without any requirement for polishing or positioning it in anything but a cloak of virtuous honesty.
