President of Switzerland Didier Burkhalter announced his nation is holding a Conference on Humanitarian Law in Palestinian Authority’s Assigned Territories in Geneva starting on December 17 devoted to the Fourth Geneva Convention. Despite Israel and the United States announcement that they will not be attending, President Burkhalter is still expecting “very large participation” making his assessment on the consultations about the conference which have been ongoing for weeks. President Burkhalter was quoted making additional comments stating, “Our objective is to advance the cause of international humanitarian law.” In addition he claimed, “Even if Israel and the United States boycott the meeting, the international community must speak on the issue. There is no denigration of Israel planned.” The Swiss have decided to call for this convention responding to a request from the United Nations General Assembly which was petitioned by the Palestinian Authority. The acquiescing to any and every whim and request from the non-member observer state Palestinian Authority official observer should hold little if any surprise to anybody who has followed the consistency of the General Assembly to bow before every demand to censure Israel as well as to respect and validate anything even hinted at by the Palestinian Authority United Nations observer. My biggest problem is a question as to whether or not observers are assigned and permitted to watch and report back to the entity they represent and not to make suggestions or especially dictate steps and resolutions to the body they are presumably simply observing? This is simply another example of how the world will go to any excess in their efforts to kowtow to the Palestinian Authority, otherwise known as the Abbas Arab entity, in their efforts to establish a body of conferences, resolutions and pronouncements undercutting the existence of Israel all so as to be capable of pointing to the amassed perfectly inflammatory pronouncements against all things Israel in the Abbas Arab body’s insatiable drive to place in question the legality of the existence of Israel, something which was decided long ago when the very same General Assembly passed a resolution which made a non-binding resolution which had it been accepted the lands west of the Jordan River would have been evenly split by acreage with Israel being granted the greater challenge as their allotted areas were approximately three-quarters consisting of the Negev Desert and the rest barely arable hills and beachfront property around Tel Aviv while the most fertile areas of the central Galilee making up the half of the Arab lands with the rest in the central farm lands east of Tel Aviv leading towards Jerusalem and Jerusalem would have been an international city preserved for the benefit of all peoples. This aforementioned non-binding resolution was refused by the Arab League as they were incapable of accepting that any lands could be reserved for a Jewish state instead insisting that any Jewish lands must be ruled by Muslims with the Jewish population accepting their Dhimmi status just as Jews had always been subjugated throughout the lands of the Islamic Caliphate which had ended with the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in World War I, but the Arab League insisted on quoting the Quran dictates which ruled that any lands once conquered by the forces of Islam and included in Dar al Islam could never be permitted to be relinquished back to Dar al Harb; and especially not relinquished into the hands of Jews who had been relegated as inhuman offspring of in-Halal animals and defined as those to only be vanquished by Islam since the Battle of Khaybar of the year 629 by the forces of Mohammad who ruled in Medina.

It was between this rational and the resultant refusal by the Arab Muslim leadership to accept even a minimalist Jewish state leading to their rejection of the United Nations suggested solution for the Arab-Jewish growing conflict and their ensuing genocidal assault on the nascent Jewish state of Israel by seven Arab national armies and an assortment of militias the morning after Israel declared their independence. Despite having marginal aircraft, armor and weaponry as well as limited and conflicting command and control at the onset of the war, the Jewish forces did manage to congeal into an effective fighting force and over the next eighteen months of intermittent fighting managed to gain control of much of the lands west of the Jordan River, the very lands guaranteed them by the British Crown in exchange for releasing any claims to the lands east of the Jordan River for the founding of the Palestinian Arab state of Transjordan which subsequently was renamed simply Jordan, with the exception of Gaza which was retained by Egypt and Judea and Samaria which was retained by Jordan who renamed it West Bank in an effort to remove any reference which intimated of their Jewish origins. Egypt never attempted to annex Gaza but Jordan did announce they had annexed what they called the West Bank and extended Jordanian citizenship to the Palestinian Arabs living within, a move which was only supported by Pakistan and Britain while being rejected by the Arab League and every other Arab and Muslim country and United Nations member states. During the ensuing eighteen years until the June 1967 Six Day War there were absolutely no attempts or even thoughts to establish a Palestinian Arab state with the lands of Gaza and Judea and Samaria even after in 1964 Yasser Arafat established the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) which was the predecessor of today’s Palestinian Authority as well as Fatah, all of which are headed currently by Mahmoud Abbas, thus the reference Abbas Arab body.

Despite Switzerland President Burkhalter Conference name, the lands of Judea and Samaria, West Bank, are not Palestinian Authority’s Assigned Territories but simply contested areas which were originally divided by the 1993 Oslo Accords into three areas with denotations of Area A being under autonomous Arab control holding both security and civilian control, Area B which was under shared security control and civilian control to be determined though most assigned it to the Palestinian Authority, and Area C which was under Israeli security and civilian control and was never initially considered to ever be relinquished to Arab rule but was to remain Israeli lands. The Oslo Accords did not delineate that Jerusalem would be left in Israeli hands and made no mention of ever allowing Arab control even over East Jerusalem as Israel had previously annexed all of Jerusalem and the Oslo Accords made no mention of contesting that annexation. This coming conference is simply another avenue for the Europeans and much of the rest of the world to stand with the Arab block of nations which includes the twenty-two Arab nations and the vast majority of the Non-Aligned Movement Nations (NAM) as well as other blocks bringing the total number of nations currently echoing every Arab claim to somewhere between one-hundred and one-hundred-seventy nations assuming those European nations who have had their parliaments already voted to support recognizing the maximalist demands of the Abbas Arab body which includes all of Areas A, B and C as well as East Jerusalem all previous agreements be damned (pardon my excited language). Having the vast majority of nations acquiescing with the presumptions of this convention is far from surprising as it falls right in line with the entire history which depicts a world doing whatever was within their powers to place stumbling blocks and other obstacles legal, physical, psychological, and through media and political measures all aligned to prevent the Jewish state from reaching fruition despite the accord reached by the majority of leading victorious nations from World War I plus leaders in the world and agreed upon by the leader of the Arab world at the time, King Faisal, at a number of treaties and heralded in the San Remo Conference where the Balfour Declaration was adopted word for word and letter for letter. How the world has turned and how little surprise there is in that fact.

There were the numerous British White Papers which were all issued to attempt to tear lands away from their intended use as the Jewish state and to prevent the immigration of Jews thus making it impossible for the Jews to reach a majority of the population and thus trigger the transfer for the lands to be utilized as a Jewish state. The Peel Commission all but placed into law stipulations which would have made the formation of anything other than a hamlet of a Jewish state all but impossible and completely reneged on the promises given upon the formation of Transjordan. Then there were the forerunners of this coming conference, the Durban Conferences. These three conferences were not held to address what they claimed in their initial title which read, “World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance.” The reality became known within moments of the opening of the first conference, the denouncing and delegitimizing Israel and defaming and delegitimizing Jews both generally and as a people thus taking up every angle possible to demean and disestablish the Jewish nature and rights for the continued existence of Israel as the Jewish state, and continued to be the theme through the remaining two conferences. This conference with its name, “Conference on Humanitarian Law in Palestinian Authority’s Assigned Territories,” is simply starting off with the specious claim to be the successor to the Durban Conferences which by their third session had lost their shock factor and had become a mere shadow of the original with the largest amount of media attention given to those nations who refused to attend and the order and reasons behind their refusal and not a stich of media cared about the rehashing of the same tired hyperbolic parroting of the same tired accusations and declarations just as empty and lacking meaning as was meat and grist of the first two Durban Conferences. Unfortunately the mainstream media will take to this conference as all new and daring to enter virgin territory despite all we will witness is the exact same gruel which we have experienced before and hopefully the media will be sufficiently unimpressed that they give more time to those nations who refuse to attend and their reasons as those are the brave nations who are willing to buck the trends of anti-Israel, anti-Zionist and anti-Semitic rantings which the world has heard a gazillion times if not multiples more than even that. The fact that there will be nations beyond the usual suspects gathering at this conference to be subjected to the usual expressions of the same old tired hatreds and bile which these same haters have delivered a thousand times and still do not seem to tire of their roles is what is the only surprise. I await the announcement from Canada that they will, surprise surprise, not be attending as they would rather be counted as a supporter of Israel than to swim in the mire and fetid swamps of hatred. May the echoes from this conference die as quickly as did those from Durban III whose echoes barely lasted the half dozen blocks to reach beyond the General Assembly meeting room before falling flat and quietly dissolving into the ether ignored and unremembered.

There are reports that the European Union has distributed a list to its twenty-eight member states detailing sanctions to be taken against Israel as punishment should the Israeli government refuse to bow before European demands regarding activities beyond the Green Line, the 1949 Armistice Lines, refusing to reengage in peace negotiations with the Palestinians, though there is no mention that such might be impossible as the Palestinian Authority has been refusing to negotiate until Israel surrenders to all of their demands granting them their state within the entirety of the West Bank (Judea and Samaria) with all of East Jerusalem as their capital and total control over the Temple Mount and Old City, or refuse any other demands made by the European Union in the name of as part of agreement with the Palestinians. Of course the list was to remain secret and concealed from the Israelis as per instructions given, according to Haaretz, from the drafters and designers of the sanctions regimen, the European External Action Service (EEAS), who distributed these instructions to the numerous European diplomats. But this economic assault on Israelis as punishment for Zionist activities, defined as inhabiting and claiming the ancient lands of the Jewish ancestors, or Israeli defiance to European directives and demands for their submission to Palestinian demands, attempting to strike at Israel economically is simply the latest of those assaults on Israel and Zionism using economic punishments much as was used against the Jewish people both in periods of European and Islamic history throughout the many states and under numerous rulers within both.

Another economic assault on Israel is better known as it has been very public and have made their demands well publicized is known as the Boycott, Divestment and Sanction Movement (BDS). The BDS movements is nothing but the modern-day interpretation to the medieval banishment against permitting Jews to own land which often forced Jews into the towns where they learned trades, dealt as money lenders and financiers, learned sciences and medicine or tended stores becoming the retailers of later ages. The BDS economic assaults on Israel have similarities to the barring of Jews entering many guilds, governments banning Jews from certain professions during the ages of the inquisitions and purifications across Europe or restrictions placed on Jews economically as Dhimmis living in Muslim ruled lands.

The history of economic and legal warfare against the Jewish communities during their existence within the Diaspora is well known, well documented and had numerous peculiarities making each episode and each age having their own identifiable peculiarities. There were often cases where Jews were restricted in where they were permitted to live, often in places referred to as the Jewish Ghettos while other times at one end of town separated by a short distance almost as if they were relegated to their own town separate from the non-Jewish peoples. One recent example of a generally held suspicion of Jewish perfidy which existed into the middle of the last century was that the Jewish People had some unfair advantage when it came to business acumen which gave them an unfair advantage over other business people. This suspicion was not actually valid as there were just as many Jewish businesses which failed and the percentage breakdown of Jewish successes and failures were just slightly over the statistical deviance. Still some back then pointed to that slight margin above statistical error as sufficiently significant that without some viable explanation there should be an investigation into why the Jews are more successful. I heard this argument made by some classmates (yes, I’m ancient) and could not help but laugh at which point I found myself challenged to explain what I found so amusing. I asked them if perhaps the obvious reason that Jews might be slightly more practiced and have a wellspring of knowledge within their community was due to the fact that while much of the Christian world was farming Jews were forbidden to own or work land and were forced into the towns where they ran were practitioners of skilled trades, or ran businesses such as money lenders (the predecessor to modern banks facilitating trade), taverns, provisionary, clothiers and other businesses which gave the Jews centuries of experience over those who held the wealth of land ownership or those who worked the farmlands or tended flocks.

Back during those earlier times some Jews amassed varying degrees of wealth with some by the twentieth century had become extremely wealthy. The Rothschild family which owned one of the oldest and largest banks in France had amassed sufficient wealth to cause conspiracy theorists to accuse them and other wealthy Jewish families of controlling governments and having unhealthy influences. There were theories during the Middle Ages that blamed the Jews for plagues or other mass illnesses, such as the flu or other viruses, which struck towns which resulted in some instances in pogroms or even the burning at the stake of a town’s Jews. One could interpolate that the same may be behind some of the hatreds and conspiracy theories concerning Israel as simply the ancient hatred and accusations made against the Jewish People have now been adapted, possibly subconsciously, and applied now to the Jewish state. Part of this theory can be proven when one realizes that one of the current demands made of Jews in Europe and was made against the majority of the Jews within the Islamic world from 1947 through the early 1960s where Jews were told with all the hatred and ferocity a society could muster to take themselves to Israel with the rest of the Jews as they were no longer welcome amongst the real citizens and accepted members of the society within whom these Jews resided. Now the exact same thing in reverse is part of the Arab and Islamic demands for the Jews to leave Israel and return the lands to their rightful Arab owners, similar to the demands for the Jews to leave many nations, regions, localities or other dominion which resulted in the Jews often moving from one place to another only to need to relocate once again within a few years or maybe longer time and time again. The Jews were then told to take themselves back to where they belonged, which then was to the Middle East to Jerusalem or anywhere between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea, exactly where Israel is today. But there are other similarities.

When Israel first established her independence she had to fight a war against over a half dozen Arab nations’ armed forces, many militias and forces under the command of the Mufti of Jerusalem Haj Amin al-Husseini who spent almost all of World War II within Hitler’s Germany where he added his approval for the ‘Final Solution’ for European Jews and demanded Nazi assistance in dealing with the Jews of the Middle East and North Africa after they had conquered Europe and moved on to the Middle East and beyond, for which she received little assistance from Western Europe and the United States imposed an arms embargo and despite of which the tiny nascent state of Israel not only survived but gained some lands they had not initially held at the initial time of the intended genocidal invasion. After the initial survival of Israel she became a predominantly socialist, agrarian society which, despite hard work reclaiming their lands from the swamps, rocky terrain and desert which composed much of their new homelands. Early Israel was well received and accepted by most of the world and for the first time in almost two thousand years the Jews were free, in their own ancient homelands, had self-rule and were joining and had a belonging amongst the nations of the world and a member of the United Nations. Slowly the nation of Israel began to develop a more technically advanced society and economy. Upon the winning the release for Russian Jews to make Aliyah and immigrate to Israel the Israeli economy took on a whole new facet and the technology explosion erupted expanding the Israeli economy. Very soon after Israel became a much wealthier nation and also saw the turning away by many of the nations who not long ago were friends but now were siding with her enemies. Many of these nations had gone from their position which immediately after the June 1967 Six Day War had supported and fully expected that Israel would retain some, if not a fair amount, of the lands she had gained as a result of a defensive war started by Egypt and Syria and one day later they were joined by Jordan over Israeli warnings and pleadings for Jordan to remain peaceful, but soon after the October 1973 Yom Kippur War and the fuel embargo by OPEC, these nations started drifting to the Pro-Palestinian Arab position initially fearing further embargoes and eventually as representative of their hate for capitalism and wealth gained by Israel moving from a socialist society towards a capitalist free trade society. Israel returned all of the Sinai to Egypt upon making peace, a somewhat surprising generosity as many had thought Israel would retain the parts of the Sinai east of the central spire of mountains. The largely agreed belief was that Israel would retain the Golan Heights and all of Judea and Samaria (West Bank) as retaining these lands would provide Israel with the security of defendable borders, the exact wording from the United Nations resolution which had called on Israel to return lands, not all the lands, just lands, and retaining those regions which would provide for Israel to have defensible borders. Today and since soon after 2008 Israel has been pressured to return to within the Green Line. Israel has been treated with great amounts of animosity from much of Western Europe, much of the Islamic world, the nations which make up the Non-Aligned Nations (NAM), and now even the United States, or at least the administration under President Obama. The increased levels of animosity and hatred from around the world against Israel had been directly proportional to her increasing economic wealth, much like what the Jews faced in many of these same areas as they individually gained wealth.

The ironies and insanities displayed by the nations of the world when it comes to Israel, Zionism and the hatreds of both and the Jewish People is astoundingly absurd. Just a few weeks ago Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei called for the Jews in Israel to return to the nations from whence they had come. The Iranian leader implied that all Israeli Jews arrived from Europe and the United States. There is a gaping hole in this theory which the Ayatollah Khamenei is perfectly aware of, half of the Israeli population originated outside of Europe and North America and instead arrived from across the lands of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) including his own Iran. One must wonder whether or not the Ayatollah Khamenei would be willing to accept the return of the near one-hundred-thousand Iranian Jews and their descendants into Iran with welcoming arms? This has been one of the most persistent and ignorant errors and suppositions about Israel that all Israeli Jews originated from Europe, Russia, Canada and the United States. The truth is that half of the Israeli Jews arrived from the Arab world with many arriving with at best one suitcase, no funds, stripped of their valuable possessions, monies, jewelry, business stocks and other supplies and valuables, homes and anything else of value. This includes such nations as well as Iran of Iraq, Egypt, Algeria, Libya, Turkey, Tunisia, Yemen, Jordan and numerous others. There are a residual group of Jews remaining in some of these nations but there are some which have completely lost their Jewish population just as the Palestinians expect there to be no Jews permitted to remain in whatever lands they make their nation just as has already been executed in Gaza where there are no longer even a single Jews, IDF soldier or Jewish person of any kind. This is despite the fact that Hamas, Mahmoud Abbas and other Palestinian spokespeople and other sympathizers continue to claim Gaza as being under occupation. The same can be said for Area A in Judea and Samaria as at the same time that Israel removed all Jewish presence from every square millimeter of Gaza, Israel also removed every last vestige of Jewish or Israeli presence in Area A in Samaria which was made-up of almost a half dozen towns, kibbutzim and farming communities. Somehow, none of these sacrifices are recognized nor appreciated by most of the world with the European Union leading the charge ignorant of the real history of Israel, the British Mandate, Article 80 of the United Nations Charter, the San Remo Conference, or the entirety of the history of the ancient Jewish lands described in the Old Testament. These truths and the obligations of the world to respect their promises to Israel which are being ignored much like the reasons that the Jews were fist permitted to arrive in an area and the economic growth they facilitated when there came a crisis the local leaders found a need for a scapegoat which almost always became those Jews, those who are different from the real and original inhabitants of the lands. The difference is now the locality that is being defined where the Jews are no longer welcome is approaching the entirety of the planet as the Europeans and so many more want to grant the Palestinians the entirety of their defined homeland which they define in their chant which reads, “From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free.”

World Ready for Security Council Without United States?

In Israel most of the hubbub has revolved around the speeches before the General Assembly by Mahmoud Abbas and his accusations and abuses heaped on Israel and the response and defenses along with counter arguments by Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu by his speech. Further, there has been commentary of those parts of the speech by President Obama, among others, which were applicable to Israel in particular and the Middle East in general. Other than Prime Minister Netanyahu’s comparison equating Hamas and ISIS, not much of the other references and activities regarding ISIS have been given comment as they have mostly been ignored or mentioned in passing for background and supporting commentary by which Israel should expect to possibly find more vocal, unrestricted, unrestrained and unqualified support along with potentials for a more sympathetic understanding of the threats and difficulties faced by Israel and her peoples. But even should these hopes and aspirations materialize or not, there may have been evidence of a potentially far more sweeping and definitive change in the future which might have far reaching detrimental results for Israel. There was evidence given of a united opposition to the efforts by the United States to address and attack ISIS without having first attained the support of the United Nations and attaining a Chapter Seven Security Council Resolution. These demands were made by Iran and Russia who backed their complaint with accusations that the United States and their allies’ attacks on ISIS and their intents to arm and train Syrian opposition rebel groups as an uninvited aggressions and assault on the independent nations of Syria and Iraq. They further pointed to the actions taken jointly by the United States and Russia to attain Security Council backing for the initiatives to remove the chemical and biological weapons stores held by Bashir Assad in Syria which prevented any attacks on Syria by the United States holding them up as an example of the correct and cooperative manner for addressing such actions and its being preferable to any unilateral actions.

An international journalist and professor at Moscow’s Higher School of Economics, Boris Kalyagin, speaking to Pravda.Ru on 23 September stated, “Such actions must be carried out exclusively within the boundaries of international law. That means not formal unilateral ‘notification’ of strikes but the clearly expressed approval of the government of Syria or the passage of a decision by the United Nations Security Council.” Further comments from the Wall Street Journal; noted that, “Hasan Rouhani, the president of Iran, agreed and said the U.S.-led airstrikes were illegal and constituted an attack on Syria, while also condemning Islamic State militants as ‘barbarians.’” Also quoted in the same article was Bassam Abu Abdallah, director of the Damascus Center for Strategic Studies, which is close to the Syrian regime, who stated “We are witnessing the beginning of change in the U.S. position. And in politics you have to deal with reality no matter how long you resist; there is a Syrian state that has persevered and there are institutions that one can communicate with.”

The question many might be asking about now is, “How does this relate to the Security Council without the United States?” It probably would not surprise anybody to hear that Russia in a former life as the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) had expressed desires to have the veto power removed from the United States as well as its permanent membership in the Security Council even at the cost of giving up its similar privileges. These expressions were usually supported by the Soviet bloc nations as well as China, the Arab and Muslim bloc nations and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) nations, all of which have misgivings about the vetoes cast by the United States which have blocked their efforts to enforce their political intrigues. One glaring example has been the attempts of the nations of the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (IOC) and other Muslim and Arab majority nations to gain sanctions, denunciations and other censures against Israel which have almost universally met with a United States veto. One outstanding exception was after the Israeli airstrike against the Iraqi Osirak Reactor on June 7, 1981, when the United States did not veto the Security Council’s denouncing the Israeli strike on another United Nations member state, something not usually successfully accomplished against Arab nations for actions and activities against Israel. The desired changes which those disgruntled with the veto powers of the five permanent members of the Security Council, whether the discontent is over their permanent representation or their ability to unilaterally vote down any motion unilaterally with their permanent veto powers, is for at a minimum to have the veto powers rescinded and more optimistically to have the permanent representation rescinded as well thus allowing for all the positions on the Security Council to be rotated allowing for complete equality in the representation to the Security Council which would result in the Security Council to be nothing more than a glorified General Assembly with the Western nations facing overwhelming opposition by the representation from the rest of the nations. Such a Security Council would result in regular denunciations of Israel and the United States rendering both nations susceptible to economic sanctions and potential interventions by the rest of the world all done under the auspices of the United Nations. Imagine the Security Council acting as an echo chamber for the Human Right Council or the General Assembly. Such would be a resounding nightmare for the so-called free world.

Where these denunciations of the efforts by the United States and allies in combating ISIS and incorporating arming and training the Syrian rebels in their attempts to change the Syrian governance which would likely remove Syria from Iranian influences have not mentioned removing the United States veto power or permanent status in the Security Council, they are being initialed by the same interests. Former attempts to remove the United States from their blocking position in the Security Council had been centered and championed by the USSR and these efforts had pretty much gone into remission after the fall of the Soviet Union. With the recent expansionist policies and efforts engineered by Russian leader Vladimir Putin and the resumption of some of the old axes of the Arab bloc nations joining with the replacement of the USSR, the Russian Federation, we may also soon witness a renewal of the efforts to change the makeup of the Security Council which would start by removing the veto powers of the permanent members and eventually the removal of any permanent membership thus removing much of what differentiates the Security Council from the other United Nation bodies. This was a warning shot over the bow of both the United States generally and President Obama in particular. The message was a simple one warning President Obama not to get too adventurous and to not strike out too independently and remember his place and the promises he has made and the predicament that President Putin had rescued him from vis-s-vis the Syrian chemical weapons Obama Red-Line fiasco, thus the mention of the cooperative efforts between Putin and Obama and their using the United Nations to address that situation before it got completely out of hand. The warning is that there is the possibility that President Obama may have misjudged the situation and this was the one opportunity he was being warned to take to return to the greater flexibility he had promised to be capable of taking after his reelection. This was also a blatant warning from President Putin to President Obama to back off and remember his place. The odds are that President Obama will heed this warning and retreat and seek to gain the cooperation of the Security Council and by such provide Iran and Syria with a say as to how the allied bombings against ISIS will be carried out and where and when such strikes will be allowed to be carried out. We might also see a retreat on training of the rebels though it is doubtful that Britain’s Prime Minister Cameron will back away from his efforts in training and arming rebel forces so easily. It is not likely that there will be any efforts immediately to seek the redefinition of the Security Council as President Putin also enjoys the ability to stymy any adventurous use of the powers of the Security Council, especially should such efforts be taken pertaining to the conflicts currently in the Ukraine and the potential for further Russian adventurism in Luxemburg or any of the other former Soviet satellite nations. This will be an interesting test of whether President Obama has grown any bolder as a result of being forced by the threat situation to act boldly and take military measures in the Middle East and especially in Iraq, even more so after he had announced that he had pulled all the American forces from Iraq and left behind a strong, vibrant and independent nation capable of taking care of its future without the need of American military presence. It will also be an indicator of what direction the Iran nuclear negotiations are likely to take, but more on that in the near future.
