Why the Left Hates Competitive Education

First, please allow us to define “Competitive Education.” All Competitive Education entails is allowing there to be competition in educating our most precious asset, our children. Whenever this is suggested, big money from the Teachers’ Unions and Labor Unions in general start claiming that if we go away from general public education, then there would be no schools operating in the inner cities, the children will all receive subpar education, only the wealthy children will be permitted into the best schools and a myriad of false accusations and strawman arguments which a casual investigation would reveal their complete vacuity. The accusation that only the wealthy would receive a decent education is so absurd simply because the wealthy already are not sending their children to the public schools and are instead using Competitive Education in choosing in which of the elite academies they will educate their children. They often make their determination after a serious assessment of their child’s particular needs. If their child is rebellious, they might decide that a strict academy where they children wear uniforms and rules are strictly applied and if their child has a learning disability, they choose a school which is suited to such challenges and lastly, if their child shows a particular proclivity towards some subject or ability, they would choose appropriately. But the omniscient overlords of the public school system wish to deny to everyone who is not wealthy the exact same system which the wealthy are able to afford. What if instead of forcing everyone into the one size fits all and often-subpar education system provided by the government, after all, name something the government provides which has proved superior to the same service provided privately. We often immediately hear that law enforcement, and we agree that the level of protection provided by those dedicated individuals who choose to train and provide law enforcement are above the average, but we will also point out that the wealthy often have private patrols and other applications of security which augments, and in some gated communities replaces, publically provided law enforcement.

Allow us to make a few other potential areas where the identical argument about public education would apply and we would like to see how many would prefer the government take over these other areas of products, after all, education is a product in which we are given limited and too often no choice beyond the location where we reside to determine the educational level our children will receive. The first and most obvious would be grocery stores. After all, without the government providing our groceries, how do we know that just because we live in a poor neighborhood that we are not going to receive second or third rate food choices or no food choices? Would we not desire that the government provide grocery stores with government distributed groceries and government employees stocking the shelves and as cashiers and every other position right down to government run farms to assure the right measure of fertilizer is used and only approved pesticides which will not harm the environment and water rationed to prevent runoff and on and on. This was how food was grown, harvested and distributed in Soviet Russia as well as a number of other socialist nations such as Zimbabwe which had been the highest food producing country in Africa and when a new governance took over the entire economy and placed their own people to raise their crops and tend their herds and they became the least productive food producing country within a matter of three or four years, the length of time it took to replace all the existing farmers, or at least most of them. We already have heard that people want healthcare provided from the government. In our studies of such systems, we have found one which performs adequately and it does so by allowing competitive healthcare facilities and private hospitals and physicians and with the competition for members in the separate plans offered by these companies, quality remains quite high and prices remain relatively low. In the purely one size fits all nations there are prolonged wait times for surgical procedures, cancer treatment, diagnostic tests (the one place the system in our preferred nation could use an upgrade), permission to see a specialist, for physical therapy and so many other items and unlike our preferred nations where private practice is permitted as long as you also provide a set amount of your services in one of the plans, most of the socialized medical systems forbid private practices. What about socialized, government clothing? Everybody gets the same styles from which to choose. China had this at the start of the Mao Zedong rule and it was wonderful seeing all the happy people dressed identically. Let’s face it, there is nothing that the government does better than private providers, with the grave exception of military power, something which any sane people would never entrust to private companies as then the wealthy would have too much power.

So, let us talk private schools and see what we can learn. First and foremost, there would be testing which would demand that students meet a minimal level of education in the necessities such as reading, writing, arithmetic, history, civics, sciences and even physical training for a level of fitness. The way these schools would be largely financed would be by having the monies currently spent on education divided by the numbers of students and the money would go to each school with each student. This would set a level of tuition which the most basic schools would charge with specialized schools potentially charging a higher tuition. Special needs education students would receive an additional amount divided from the current additional expenditures on a per student rate as the general education funds were divided. The general education schools could also provide specialization with the level required in the other subjects still requiring to be met. With private schools, the better schools would receive more students and be able to fill classroom sizes which could be regulated such that class sizes could not exceed a set figure, probably thirty or less as per regulations in each state. The states could be placed back as the primary sculptures of their school systems through their specific requirements. It would make sense for schools in central Nebraska to be more oriented to farming and such technologies while schools in the major cities would have less of an emphasis in these areas. Such decisions are best left to the individual states and counties, as they understand the requirements of their communities far better than would any bureaucrat in Washington D.C., where the current curriculums are mostly regulated. The testing regimens could be set at a level desired as minimal acceptable requirements from Washington D.C. but the specific requirements should be left to the individual states to determine any additional emphases. The better schools would survive and spread as their reputations spread and those whose level of proficiency was of a lesser quality would soon go out of business. Another advantage of such a system is that these schools would be answerable to the parents and far more approachable than the current public education systems which in many instances have virtually no means for parents to have any measurable influence. Teachers also would be rated individually and as such be more inclined to add to their education and become more qualified as well as staying up to date on the latest changes to their subject matter. We know that most of these reasons are an anathema to the teachers’ unions; who once a teacher gets tenure, they can coast along with no fear of being removed from their position. Further, the teachers’ unions in the majority of instances have become political influence peddlers and less education monitors. Their main interest is the continuation of schools as is and bigger salaries, less required class time, more specialized advisors, more counselors, administrative positions and a myriad of items with little if any influence on the level of education provided.

The argument is that schools would not be provided to remote regions such as low density farming communities or to many central areas in major cities where there are problematic reasons for low performance and other scare tactics. The city argument is ridiculous, as the students in these areas would take with them a premium fiscal incentive to provide education. This alone would be a great incentive as money talks. The arguments that in some areas the schools would choose not to admit troubled youths could be remediated by providing an additional scale for payment for schools taking any youth who had been expelled from another school. These children could be considered to be youths with special needs. Such schools should be given some additional leniency concerning their maintaining order in their classrooms. Further, an allowance might be made to have law enforcement officers stationed at these schools which would tend to blunt any precocious student deciding that they were permitted to have a violent outburst. Further, the schools would be responsible for student safety and in preventing the kind of incidents which have become all too common in schools. These incidents have occurred despite the availability of psychologists and other professionals placed in schools who are supposed to see such problems before they occur and not to provide the reasons why such events take place after the fact. With schools free to accept and expel, the environment in the classroom will become more conducive to learning, a major plus. One of the greatest problems in discipline was when because of costs, reform schools were dropped and new age approaches of placing discipline problem students into normal regimens in the claim that such an environment would prevent their acting out, and this was applied even to students who it was known had violent tendencies. Some schools may even provide special programs for just such students where a more regimented system where outbursts are not tolerated and other older tried and true methods applied to such students. Not everything is better just because it is a new approach; sometimes the old-school approach is more effective. Most difficulties would have applications which, as long as there is a need, there will be somebody to fill the niche, often at a price.

Schools could once more offer a series of hands-on job training giving student a skill which they could become licensed and qualified for apprenticeships or trade school certificate which would create graduates who could take any of the myriad of unfilled positions in what we derogatorily refer to as manual labor. There is nothing wrong with making a living using hands-on skills such as carpentry, plumbing, roofing, electronics repair or any of the many other skilled professions. We must refer to them as skilled professions and as an alternate route for those who choose to create actual physical objects which create the houses, malls and other structures or that repair medical equipment and other electronic items or even factory work with assembly, calibration and testing. Below is Dirty Jobs host Mike Rowe in a suit speaking at the Independent Women’s Forum where he was awarded the Gentleman of Distinction award speaking about the growing gap of jobs which need filling which do not require a college education and the burdensome debt which comes with it. We also can bet that when they make education free for everyone, these free educational opportunities will exclude the menial positions, the way the elites in the ivory towers refer to those of us who perform the jobs which keep their worlds running smoothly with plenty of items produced by people without a college education. The stigma placed on these honorable professions is really doing our children a disservice as instead of running up a debt to gain a degree a youth could apprentice in a profession or even go to Caterpillar’s free school too become a heavy equipment operator and where they will place you in a job near whatever city you desire. For the professionals out there with the six-figure incomes, a heavy equipment operator after four years on the job which includes the first year with Caterpillar will match your six-figure salary working near New York or other major metropolis.

Many parents argument for why they are unable to place their children into a private educational facility is cost. For those who claim that their children are their most precious darlings of their lives, to them we simply ask, are such darlings not worth a small outlay of funds beyond what the government provides for worthwhile to provide the best for them? With the government outlays per student now given to the child to take with them, the cost of that private school may just have come within the reach of many such a parent, and would that not be worthwhile for them to finally be able to place their children in the schools they desire? The answer to both questions should be a resounding, “yes,” and is another reason privatizing education is something whose time has come. What will happen to all those educators currently in the public school system? Well, they will be able to find jobs with these private schools which will start to appear almost like weeds once they know that the money is there. Competition will keep the prices in check and competition will provide the best teachers receiving the higher salaries. Can you imagine teachers being given raises commensurate with the results of the education they provide the children and the decorum they manage in their classes? Schools will retain their best teachers and slowly weed out those whose methods and results prove to be less than expected. Those who are back to thinking that private schools would be a horrific idea, would you also desire government grocery stores and government clothing stores along with your government education system. Education is a lot like the weather, so many people complain about it but nobody does anything about it. Maybe the time has come to try something different. As Einstein was reputed to have said, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.” The reality is that the United States had private education for much of its history and the argument for public education was made to provide every student with an equal education which followed the prescribed curriculum such that the workforce would have a standard upon which they could depend. Many of the current results from the government run schools lays lie to such result, as many school systems no longer provide equal education in their schools or even an adequate level of education. Colleges at all levels are finding that they are required to provide remedial education in the most basic subjects without credit for incoming students often adding another year to their time required to graduate. What does this tell you about the level of education the average student are receiving in government schools; perhaps we should try something else and see how it turns out. We would love to see a state decide to try private education taking whatever Federal money they receive and taking the money they provide and dividing it into a per student amount. They could even sell off their school buildings to any system and making sure that different systems are provided with these facilities thus increasing competition. If any state were permitted to try this as a test case and the bureaucrats in Washington D.C. could permit their control freak tendencies to go into remission just for one state, then that could be the test case and any problems addressed as they are encountered. Imagine if such a test were permitted in, oh let’s pick someplace which would represent the nation as a whole, how about Illinois as it has Chicago plus a fair number of decent sized and small metropolitan regions as well as some rural farming communities thus it just might make a representative test case. Would it be simply unthinkable to Americans to accept private education where they would actually have to make decisions as to their children’s education? They choose the food their children eat, the clothes they wear and almost every other aspect of their life, but education which should be amongst the most important items just has to be trusted to the government. That simply does not make sense and is completely counterintuitive.

How to Evict All Religious Jews and Eventually Christians Too

The United Kingdom, with the encouragement and urging by Humanists UK, a staunchly atheistic organization which opposes the operation of religious schools; is using Britain’s Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services, and Schools (Ofsted) to impose the teaching of instruction on same-sex marriage and “sexual orientation” issues as part of their curriculum. The demanding for religious institutions to teach that which is staunchly opposed in their religious doctrines is simply a demand that they close or commit to sins all but beyond forgiveness. They call it the 2010 “Equality Act,” which requires schools to teach “about protected characteristics” including sexual orientation and “gender re-assignment,” knowing full well that imposing these demands will result in these communities leaving the nation, and if smart, the continent and return home to Israel. While the intent according to all official information states that they are targeting unregistered religious schools, but the apparent main and primary target appears to be Hassidic and Orthodox Jewish schools. Using lack of teaching about same-sex marriage and “sexual orientation” issues along with testimony from graduates who have left the community whom they turned to for their tainted recollections are being used to demand that Jewish schools include these sexual and gender education curriculum or face closure. One of the first schools targeted is the Yesodey Hatorah Senior Girls’ School, founded in 1942 in northern London, which teaches Haredi girls age three to eight and Ofsted insists that these impressionable and very young girls be exposed to education which is directly against the teachings of Torah, the basis and center for Judaism.

This is the best spot to quote Rabbi Klein, the director of the Belz Hassidic community’s educational institutions in London, who said, “A school that does not teach a syllabus that includes totally alien, atheistic values could be summarily closed. Ironically, the proposed standards attempt to promote tolerance and respect for some elements of society, while being completely intolerant and disrespectful of our community and our religious principles.” His point is even more poignant when one takes into consideration of the policy’s name, “Equality Act,” which imposes the Secular Humanist religious dogma upon other religions which do not share their atheistic, sexually open, presumed liberated and godless viewpoints. There is not much equality in the “Equality Act,” unless you abide by the “liberated, open and supposedly all-inclusive” outlook in which there are no restrictions on sexuality or gender. The Judeo-Christian schools, seemingly more Jewish schools, cannot teach such curriculum and remain true to their religion. This is an attack on religions, especially Judaism, and is obviously designed to eradicate the Jews from England once again. We might be looking at another expulsion order not so dissimilar in kind to the expulsion of all Jews from the country in 1290 by King Edward I. This expulsion will be performed not through a direct law but the result of demanding that the religious Jewish communities adopt a secular humanist school curriculum teaching their children subjects which their parents would never dare even broach in the home. This is another case of the government knows better than the parents on what their children are to be exposed to and at what age they are ready to discuss these sensitive subjects.

The next step would be to make any speech which crosses these subjects in anything resembling rejecting them and referring to them as against religious teachings illegal. This could then be used to restrict the preaching to the flock or even the printing of the Bible, Christian, Muslim or Jewish, and absolutely no speech even in a religious service. Once the orientation wars reach their ultimate point, and that is what is being waged in the United Kingdom, then even reading parts of the Torah would become prohibited as commentary on same-sex relations makes reference forbidding one to partake of such relations and insisting that such yearnings are to be fought by the individual. Torah teaches that one facing this challenge is to be loved and accepted into the community and assisted in living a proper life free from these forbidden actions. The feelings are not forbidden, only acting upon such feelings and even then, only the act of sodomy is technically forbidden. There is a reason behind these guidelines as religion presents guidelines which assist in the formations of families capable of offspring and the raising of these youths such that the result is their being a comfortable fit within their community. These communities are the target of Humanists UK in their drive to erase any religious dogma other than their secular humanist dogma, and as history has shown, it will start with the Jews but it never ends with the Jews.

Now let us get into the particulars of the Secular Humanist religion and the attached dogma. The first rule is never admit that Secular Humanism is a religion with dogma and its own list of the unacceptable acts, beliefs, dogmas and other related life events. They adopt purist atheism which must be accepted as the official religious rule with full state provided enforcement. The Atheistic Secular Humanism has a unique primary target which they define as the root of all evils and from which all other blasphemous sacrilege emerged, Judaism. Whenever these groups decide the time has come to attack religious people, they start to impinge upon their worship and study imposing their dogma using the law. This is exactly what this “Equality Act” is and it fits their anti-religious aggressions to a ‘T’. This was covered perfectly in George Orwell’s Animal Farm where it states, “All animals are created equal but some animals are more equal than others.” In the case of Secular Humanism which is the religion of the left, and the further left the more ardent the believer, who are the ones who people government, the George Orwell quote produces something frightening as these are the people who control the regulation engines in most developed nations allowing them to make their beliefs legal and all others not so much. This is exactly what is in motion here, the use of laws and regulations to prevent the teaching of religiously based education which is in contrast to the Atheist Secular Humanist faith.

Before people start asking how we can claim that the majority of government employees are left leaning, please allow a simple explanation which will clarify our reasoning. Let us begin with a conservative government led by actual conservatives. Conservatives currently believe in a smaller government. They are not progressives, though there are some who claim to be conservative progressives, they are not really a conservative but a populist progressive who is less left than those who currently control the progressive agenda. These conservative governments do not often open a new department of the government and very often impose a hiring freeze in order to allow attrition to deplete the numbers of government employees. Before the government reaches a critical point where hiring becomes necessary, there will come an election where a true progressive government is put in place. This will be a left leaning or even leftist government which believes that the solution to all problems is the government and new laws, rules and regulations. Along with this, the left progressive government removes the hiring freeze and begins a large hiring period. This hiring often reaches a government employee level equal to that which existed at the beginning of the former conservative government. The hiring does not stop there and continues. These agencies then are filled with left leaning to leftist employees as the people in charge of the hiring will be a left leaning or leftist appointed by the President or Prime Minister or somebody chosen to oversee hiring by this appointee. Thus we see there are periods of little or no hiring under conservatives and free-wheeling hiring by left leaning or leftist government leading to a left leaning to leftist employee set which appoint similar thinking people to the supervisory positions which becomes an impediment for conservative employees, if some manage to sneak in, from being promoted and gaining any real power. This leads to slanted regulations which, in this case, are anti-religious regulations which promote only the Atheistic Secular Humanist dogma.

Conflicting Dogma Between Atheist Secular Humanism and Judeo-Christianity

Conflicting Dogma Between Atheist Secular Humanism and Judeo-Christianity

These regulations and laws are always passed under fairness and equality, inclusiveness and egalitarianism, openness and fairness. These are the code words for the discharging an execution of traditional religious thought and belief often making them unacceptable to express in public and in public will eventually be applied to houses of worship. Eventually, this is carried to the point where a few Atheist Secular Humanists will attend services claiming to be new congregants and may even join the Synagogue, Church or Mosque and attend services sometimes with a hidden recording device. They will collect incriminating evidence of transgressing the regulations written to promote the Atheist Secular Humanist agenda over all other religions. When they have sufficient proof that horrid and unacceptable dogma is being promoted by this house of worship, they file a report bringing charges demanding the clergy of said house of worship be brought before some court for their transgressions. Thus far, we are not aware of any clergy serving prison sentences in the Western World due to hate speech or other laws restricting expression of Biblical and Torah expressions incorporated in their faith. Such is not true of the Islamic World where leading other than Islamic religious belief is a risky business where either the State forbids or limits such speech with arrest and potentially brutal treatment as well as the threat of brutality by the public where religious police could decide to dissuade those of other faiths of forgoing conversion to Islam. There is at least one Islamic nation where the practice of any other religion is forbidden under the law and punishable by death.

Some might be led to believe that the most “open minded” people who are the “paragons of virtue” are defined as such because they are true adherents to Atheist Secular Humanism. Should they be the most serious of believers, they know something which should be impressed on the rest of humanity and imposed for their own good. This secret is that only Atheist Secular Humanist dogma should be permitted in any modern society because of its acceptance and openness. Of course, any religious belief which contradicts their dogma is considered to be closed minded and exclusive and as such is to be admonished and eventually made to conform to their dogma or be prosecuted. These targeting are used to only initially be used against the Jews and other minority religious populations but in our modern society, the Atheist Secular Humanists feel they have sufficient power that they can legislate and then prosecute every religion which they disapprove. Needless to point out that their initial target remains Judaism but they also include Christianity in their local regions. In all too many places, peace and love are being replaced with openness and inclusion as the magic words for any religion. By openness, they mean accepting of all forms of sexual orientation and all forms of relationships, or as they claim to name it, “families” by which they mean any pair or group who wish to form a family unit. By inclusion, they imply acceptance of all, simply all with no limitations or lines which cannot be crossed except that which they declare to not support openness. Over time Atheist Secular Humanism will be the only religion practiced in many of the world’s major cities and Judeo-Christianity will be relegated to rural areas and small towns. What will be interesting will be what occurs when Islam and Atheist Secular Humanism run headlong into one another as this confrontations will be one of epic proportions.

The Hole in the Whole Society

Friedrich Nietzsche gave us the terms, causes, cures and repairs required when dealing with Nihilism. Nietzsche’s thoughts on nihilism, the belief that life has no intrinsic meaning, were important in the effect that they had on Martin Heidegger, philosopher and Nazi-backer extraordinaire. Heidegger took the idea of nothing, of emptiness, of the null set and produced the framework upon which postmodernism was built. Postmodernism took the nothing from Nietzsche and applied it to every concept and made everything irrelevant, worthless and simply nothing. The followers of postmodernism believe that G0d is dead or never had existed. This takes the postulation that the universe came out of nothing and thus everything within the universe is nothing. The premise behind postmodernist is that there exist no definite terms, boundaries, or absolute truths. Simply put, everything is relative and open to each individual’s personal definition and no definition is wrong because to claim there is a wrong definition would be to define what something was not. There is no reality other than what you personally believe reality to be but your reality exists no further than your existence. If you do not like your definition which describes your reality, you are free to redefine your reality and there are no limits to how many times you may redefine your reality as it is your reality and does not have any effect on everyone else’s definition of reality. Postmodernism, by its own definitions, removes any basis for religions because religions are all based on certain absolutes, defined morals, specific laws and other items which are defined specifically and as nothing can be absolute and definitions are all relative and must remain undefined, religion has lost its basis. Politics likewise has no real existence nor does nationalism or any other form of organization because any organization would have, by definition, rules which postmodernism portends that there can be no absolutes, no definitions and no rules. Postmodernism has one very dangerous and destructive conclusion, namely, life has no intrinsic value and is thus worthless making whatever one does of no real value, as there can be no real value.

This lack of meaning and lack of any intrinsic value of life and the emptiness of society with no rules and nothing such as right and wrong as we define such terms for ourselves has become the basis for what teachers teach in the public schools and throughout most colleges. They tell children that everything is of no worth and value is a figment of each individual’s mind and these values extend no further than their own thoughts. Then they take all of this a step further and teach that laws have no actual meaning and each of us can make up our own laws by which to live under. The laws of our societies are simple contrivances invented to control us and other than control, they are valueless. There is no morality about the societal laws because we each define our own morality and it does not require that it be restrained by the laws. What they leave out of these lessons is that breaking the societal laws has consequences, breaking the moral codes has consequences, breaking the traditions has consequences. The main consequence is that if your definitions, which they are taught are just as righteous and valid as anyone else’s and they need not care about what the rest of the world thinks, vary too broadly from what the majority accept, you will become an outcast with few if any friends and will very soon find your life empty and without other human sharing or contact. When a person with slightly deviant tendencies develops their own set of rules defining their social beliefs and structures and it is also deviant such that the person becomes ostracized, this is a recipe for a destructive personality to develop. These individuals are amongst the most likely to become a mass shooter, including a school shooter. These individuals who end up outside of the norms of the societal norms and has been counseled that there is nothing wrong with their deciding to be outside of the norms in no way makes them wrong and they should not face any real consequence for their beliefs.

Friedrich Nietzsche and Martin Heidegger

Friedrich Nietzsche and Martin Heidegger

The problem is there are consequences for having such deviations from norms and telling such a person that they do not need to adjust to attempt to return within societal norms, sets them up for some very rough and hurtful rejection by their peers. Even in postmodernist thought, we know that rejection has effects and they are real. We know that rejection, if left untreated has some very nasty results. Consistently telling a person that the rejection is not their fault nor really the result of their different value system and wayward actions, but it is actually the problem of the rest of their peer group because they are being judgmental, something which is inherently wrong, about the only thing which is defined as wrong. So, the person being rejected will begin to blame their peers for their rejection because their wayward actions and differing beliefs have been validated by the counselors and teachers because of their belief in the absoluteness of their postmodern beliefs. Then, when the rejected person acts on their blaming their peers for acting scornfully against them and decides to punish them for their rejection and wrong and hurtful actions, when the counselors and teachers are asked about the shooter who also usually commits suicide, they claim they saw no reason as he was a quiet and well behaved, there is no such thing as wrongful behavior to these counselors and teachers, and they saw no real problem or any signals that such violence was imminent. They might note that the individual spent a greater amount of time alone off to the side but there was nothing wrong with this situation, despite this was not being a voluntary isolation but caused by peer rejection as this youth did not fit in nor did they act in a way which was acceptable as normal by their peers.

What does this tell us about these mass shooters? Well, it tells us that they are a direct product of our postmodern standard which is being foisted on the society by in large by the education systems throughout our society. Postmodernism has even crept into some of our religious institutions who have taken up the popular beliefs of our no rules societies and rejected their own teachings in their texts such as the New Testament, Old Testament, Torah, teaching of Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, Taoism, Shinto and virtually every religion. This has led to the more Orthodox and traditional institutions central to these religions finding themselves in a war with the more liberated branches of their religions who through postmodernism have decided that the rules need be changed, loosened, liberated and even simply lost. Postmodernism has brought on problems which were probably never anticipated by those who originally took the teachings of Friedrich Nietzsche and applied the expanding of his concepts by Martin Heidegger and the other postmodernist philosophers. Teaching the youth that there are no absolutes have proven dangerous despite many refusing to blame the consequences found on their philosophy. Postmodernism, the way it has been used in many classrooms and universities has led to replacement of religion and traditional societal standards which had served Judeo-Christian and Far Eastern societies for centuries if not millennia with free wheeling variable rules subject to whatever feels good or seems appropriate at the time. These concepts have had consequences which are, more often than not, covered over and explained away often simply because those best qualified to see these results are also those most sold on the validity of postmodernism. They believe that postmodernism is a proven system under which a society will operate with maximum freedoms for every individual as long as each individual takes personal responsibility. This is where the system has not functioned, as the students do not have stressed that they take personal responsibility for their actions, instead they are stressed that each person can develop their own rules and structures in life but not that they need to structure them with some regard for the norms of the societal norms of their group. This is something that most adults understand, as they must cooperate in order to keep their employment, live in their neighborhoods, live with their groups, clubs and other organizations and groupings. Youths have not developed these structures nor do they understand the complications of social interaction and when they hit puberty, they face the strains that their changing physiology places on them and without definite rules and social structures, they can easily develop psychological problems with unfortunate deadly results. What is the repair for this is likely beyond our pay grade. Our only advice is that vulnerable youth require rules, standards of behavior, consistent expectations and structure in their lives upon which they can build purposeful and meaningful lives. Teachers, parents and counselors need to work together as a team to provide these and these requirements leave little room for such an advanced and adult philosophy as postmodernism. But what do we know?
