Israel Fault and Lack of Flexibility End Negotiations

The evidence keeps rolling in with one presumably credible source after another pointing the finger of blame on Israel over the latest failed peace initiatives. United States Secretary of State Kerry was probably one of the closest people to this last round of talks which he negotiated into place with promises from both the Israelis and the Palestinians that the negotiations would proceed for nine months and would likely end with a resultant peace by or before April 29, 2014. The initial agreement appeared to be one-sided though there were demands made of both sides. From Israel, Secretary Kerry gained the concession demanded by the Palestinians as their demand required for them to even consider entering negotiations with the Israelis. This concession consisted of the Israelis eventually releasing one-hundred-four terrorist prisoners who had been incarcerated since before the September 1993 signing of the Oslo Accords. These prisoners had been convicted of carrying out or planning terror attacks responsible for multiple fatalities and near countless injuries of which many caused permanent physical impairment as well as a wider amount of mental difficulties. Many of the terrorists to be released were serving at least one life sentence and a fair number more than one such sentence. These terrorists were to be released in four groups of twenty-six and each subsequent release was predicated on advancements achieved through the negotiations.

On the Palestinian side, Secretary Kerry managed to arrange for them to agree to meet the Israelis providing the terrorist prisoner releases could be arranged. It was at the outset of the negotiations that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu made the demand that the Palestinians recognize Israel as the home of and for the Jewish People. From the start Palestinian Chairman Abbas refused to grant this demand exclaiming repeatedly that neither he, nor the Palestinian leadership nor the Arab World would ever recognize Israel as the state for the Jewish People. Chairman Abbas went further stating that it was impossible for a nation to be based upon a religious idea thusly the Jewish People could not be the basis for a nation anywhere on Earth. Despite his stating such, Abbas also held to the idea that any lands which would result in being under Palestinian control as a result of the negotiations would necessarily be cleansed of any Jewish population residing there. Another demand made by Chairman Abbas was that Israel would necessarily be forced to accept resettlement of as many as six-million Palestinian refugees and their descendants, in some cases four generations of family would have gained that right under the rules which are applied by UNRWA and are reserved only for the definition of refugee status for the Palestinians. Also from the outset of the negotiations, despite the Palestinians choosing to demand the terrorist prisoner releases and forgo a building freeze, Abbas and the other Palestinian leadership constantly demanded that Secretary Kerry pressure and force the Israelis into also enacting a building freeze. This request was even spoken of disapprovingly by Secretary Kerry though he eventually sided with the Palestinians on this issue making it an additional demand on the Israelis if the negotiations were to continue beyond the initial nine months. Secretary Kerry also sided with the Palestinians when he posited that it was unnecessary and foolish that the Israelis were demanding that the Palestinians recognize Israel as the home of the Jewish People. His reasoning was that it should be sufficient that the United States recognized Israel as being the state for the Jewish People and after all the Palestinians and even Arafat had recognized this fact though no actual quote was ever produced, let alone confirmed.

Despite there being imposed at the insistence of Secretary Kerry a gag order making the progress and machinations of the peace negotiations secret and not released to the press or public, there were almost constant little bits of information leaked by the Palestinian side. Often accompanying these leaked pieces of information were demands of the Israelis which either had not been discussed due to their improbability of being agreed upon or had been refused by the Israelis and the Palestinians believed they would gain the Israeli surrender by appealing to the world in general. When these tactics appeared to have been generally failing and with about ten weeks left before the April 29 deadline for the talks to have reached at the very least a framework agreement, the Palestinian negotiators staged a walkout of the talks declaring they were done with the intransigence of the Israelis. This denunciation was despite the fact that the Palestinian side has also refused to compromise on even a single item during the talks. After a big fuss was made publically, the Palestinians returned to the negotiations even more stridently defending against any need for them to offer any compromise on any subject. Meanwhile there were constant comments to the press and in general decrying the unfairness of the talks and how Secretary Kerry and his main staff were being used by Jewish forces within the United States government. Abbas was constantly noting that he and the Palestinian negotiators were remaining at the negotiating table solely to gain the release of the final twenty-six terrorist prisoners and were planning on “blowing-up” the negotiations immediately after receiving these final prisoner releases.

Also a little earlier than the start of the Palestinian threats to depart the talks Secretary Kerry lowered his expectations from reaching an actual peace agreement to establishing a framework and then extending the negotiations and using the framework as the guide in these additional negotiations. It was towards this end that the American team began negotiating with the Israelis in order to find some manner or path that would permit Israel to release hundreds, if not thousands, of additional terrorist prisoners including Marwan Barghouti, one of the worst of the worst terror planners who was responsible for some of the most horrific terror attacks in Israeli history. It was for these crimes that Mr. Barghouti was serving five life sentences. In addition to gaining the release of the additional terror prisoners the Palestinians were also demanding a complete and comprehensive Israeli building freeze by Israel. All the time that these demands were being issued, the Palestinians continued to threaten to walk away from the table and then recant and restate their remaining solely to attain the last twenty-six terrorists release before bolting. With there having been a complete lack of advancement resulting from the negotiations and the Palestinians continuously taking stands in complete opposition to every demand made by the Israelis while claiming that Israel was causing the talks to fail by making unreasonable demands and refusing to meet any of their obligations as were presented during the talks by the Palestinians. After weeks of threats and bluster from the Palestinians the final release date approached and the Palestinians added to their demand four additional prisoners released as well as the inclusion of Israeli Arabs who were incarcerated for terrorist crimes that caused an Israeli response to delay the final release and demand some return concession from the Palestinians due to the change in the Palestinian demands on the final releasing of terror prisoners. The Palestinians refused but the Israelis remained firm in their demand that the final release be totally renegotiated in order to accommodate the additional demands placed on this final Israeli concession warranting such a reexamination of the terms. This is what led the Palestinians to apply to fifteen United Nations and international treaties, conferences and agencies by the Palestinians as their first step to legitimacy through alternate means and without having to negotiate a settlement with the Israelis.

When Secretary of State Kerry appeared before the United States Senate committee he aimed the lion’s share of the blame for the talks failing on the Israelis though mentioning almost in passing that some of the actions by the Palestinians being unhelpful. But it was definitely the Israeli withholding the final release and their refusal to enact a building freeze as well as granting the terrorist prisoner releases and even announcing the request for tenders to build several hundred apartments within southern Jerusalem, building which the Palestinians had been informed were to be built before the negotiations commenced when they chose the terrorist releases over a building freeze. Of course the Palestinians felt that they should have been gifted a building freeze and did not understand why they should have to choose only one concession when there were so many concessions they desired to force from Israel. Obviously it was the fault of the Israelis by their demand that the Palestinians make at the least some compromise in return for the numerous compromises, concessions and allowances made by Israel, and not only during this session of talks but overall the negotiations for the past twenty-plus years. The Europeans also offered to assist getting the talks back on track and were implying that it was Israel’s responsibility to make concessions and agree to demands of the Palestinians in order to allow for their return to negotiations without losing face or standing. Of course the Arab League has completely backed the Palestinians and condemned Israel. What can be expected going forward will be the agencies, treaties and commissions which the Palestinians have applied will all agree to receive them and grant them full recognition of statehood. After they have pocketed these recognitions we can expect them to apply to another hundred or so followed by demanding recognition from the United Nations General Assembly and possibly seek membership by applying to the Security Council, especially if they can assure themselves that the United States will restrain from using their veto power. Whatever Israel does from now going forward is of little consequence as the initial stone had been skipped across the still waters and the ripples will only sell and become tsunamis with possibly horrendous consequences. Eventually the world will need to decide exactly how far they are willing to take Palestinian statehood. Will they be willing to intervene with troops and starting a war against Israel in order to retain the narrow strip of land coating the shores of the eastern Mediterranean? It is something we all should fear as such a war would not end well for anyone, least of all Israel.

Kerry’s, Obama’s Paranoia of Jewish Influence Borders on Anti-Semitism

A source reportedly close to President of the United States Barack Obama and many in the Administration, especially with Secretary of State John Kerry, claims that the two leaders have expressed their being “uncomfortable” with the “Jewish activity in Congress” which they allude as being orchestrated out of Jerusalem by the Israeli government. Israel Radio has reported that their sources have told officials in Israel of leaks that the two American leaders are quite a bit “disappointed” by criticism on the government by Jews in the US. Assuming the reports are true, and considering the actions, statements, references and intimations made by the two men, it would seem to verify such; they are approaching dangerously close to the same blood libel put forth in the Czarist propaganda publication which they used to cast aspersions on the Jewish people and blame all the ills in their society and the world on the Jews. This belief, or at least the suspicion of such, is not as far-fetched as many would have you believe as reprints of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion are still alive and condemning world Jewry today through much of the Arab and Muslim worlds as well as within many NGOs, hate groups, supremacist organizations and anti-Semites around the globe. President Obama has spoken about the difficulties he and people from his Administration have faced in their attempts to negotiate a peace between Israel and the Palestinians. The President’s actions, such as his demand to impose a building freeze on the Israelis, stating his support for using the 1949 Armistice Lines (also referred to erroneously as the 1967 border or lines) as the basis for negotiations on setting the Palestinian State borders, his many comments, especially his “hot microphone” derision concerning Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu responding to French President Sarkozy’s complaints, and the fact that President Obama has made no real effort to pressure the Palestinians into making even the smallest of gestures to show their desire for peace with Israel despite a litany of demands upon the Israelis, have all painted a picture of someone who believes that the Israelis and Jewish support for Israel are the main problems blocking an agreement while holding that the Palestinians are truly interested in peace and are making minimal and honest requests.

As far as Secretary of State Kerry is concerned, he has never been referred to as being all that supportive of Israel, though he had spoken of support for Israel whenever pinned down by reporters on the Middle East or when speaking to Jewish audiences which would be obviously necessary for anybody seeking election in Massachusetts considering the large Jewish presence in and around Boston. Secretary Kerry has further demonstrated that he believes that in order to forge a peace in the Middle East between Israel and the Palestinians that Israel must be pressured far more than the Palestinians. This is backed by the deployment of virtually all his specialists, advisors and other personnel of the team to pressure Israel while almost entirely ignoring the Palestinians. Furthermore, Secretary Kerry has stated when referring to the diplomacy going on in his efforts to forge a peace that it is Israel that requires pressures and that he fully understands why the European Union and many European governments are threatening Israel with boycotts while making no reference or demand for continued support to the tune of hundreds of millions of Euros in aid to the Palestinians, not even a single demand that the Palestinians actually cease and desist using European donations to finance terrorism or that there be transparent records of where the donations are utilized. Secretary Kerry has reportedly gone so far as to express support for the preconditions being demanded by PLO chairman Abbas and other Palestinian spokespersons even providing them with a document guaranteeing that the final treaty will include reference to Israel complying with and meeting every one of their preconditions. Meanwhile, there has been very little mention, let alone pressure, made to the Palestinians pressing them to at least make minimal efforts by recognizing Israel as a Jewish state or by reaching some compromise placing limitations on the “Palestinians refugee right of return.” This one sided pressure pressing Israel almost exclusively by Secretary of State Kerry and it being performed with the full support and backing of President Obama lends complete credence that they would believe that the Israeli government is the main source of the difficulties with forging a fair and balanced peace and that in order to resist the pressure that the Israeli government has dictated orders to the Jewish leadership in the United States to lobby and pressure Congress and anybody willing to give a favorable ear to rally support for Israel even if such support would necessarily mean opposition to President Obama and his agenda, thus working to undermine the efforts of the United States to make a lasting and good peace and the ability for the United States to carry out their foreign policy goals in the Middle East.

The proof of where exactly President Obama and Secretary of State Kerry stand will become more and more evident crystalizing before our eyes in these last few months remaining in the agreed to nine months of renewed peace negotiations. Despite the nearly constant coverage of diplomats and politicians in the mainstream media claiming that Israel is unwilling to make necessary compromises, the truth is rather different. Where Israel has been compromising almost constantly since the end of the Six Day War of 1967 and the Yom Kippur War of 1973, the Palestinians continue to stand fast on the very same demands originally made by Yasser Arafat, arch terrorist and founder of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) that the Arab state of Palestine must be formed by the lands between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea and that this state must be both Arab and Muslim with any non-Muslims permitted to reside as a Dhimmi peoples. If anything, the position of the leadership of the Palestinians has actually hardened over the years as the application of the PLO’s original definition for reacting to any Israel position has been constantly applied. This position is that any position or principle expressed by the Israelis will immediately become a Palestinian demand except that the recipient of any advantage will be changed to the Palestinians and the Jews will become those who must further compromise. This is how the so-called Palestinian right of return came into being; it simply was the distortion of the Israeli Laws of Return which was established to allow the Jewish people be facilitated in returning to their ancestral lands. The Jewish claim to the Biblical history was twisted into claims that the Palestinians were the original inhabitants of Canaan and had a history going back nine-thousand years thus predating the Jews. There were the numerous rewritten Biblical stories which stand from the Quran and Muslim lore claiming that Jesus was a Muslim, Moses was a Muslim, Abraham was to sacrifice Ishmael and not Isaac, the Temple Mount became the foundation of the al-Aksa Mosque and even Noah was made to be Muslim which was going even further than the Hebrew Bible which states that Noah was a righteous man but as he lived before Abraham he could not have been a Jew. Apparently being born to predate Islam and Mohammad is not a problem in one being Muslim. In closing allow me to list one of the most recent reversals of an Israeli demand; Prime Minister Netanyahu has insisted that the Palestinian recognize Israel thus ending any continuation of the terror war against Israel. The Palestinians refuse to recognize Israel and demand that even should there be a peace treaty establishing a Palestinian state they reserve the right to resist and protest the continued occupation and presence of the colonizing Zionist trespassers. The definition of resistance is violent terror and a state of continued aggression until all of Palestine has been liberated and the accursed Jews driven from all of the lands. As the Palestinians simply continue to include additional demands and never have acquiesced or moderated a single demand since 1964, even before there were any presumably occupied lands by Israel though the world then recognized the West Bank as occupied Judea and Samaria and Jordan as the illegal and occupying power. The real question concerning Judea and Samaria is who really owned the title to these lands and the answer is that those from whom Jordan was occupying those lands is the real owner and that happens to be Israel. This was based and is still based on the Churchill White Papers and Article 80 of the United Nations Charter.

Palestinian Announcement After Abbas and Hollande Meet

French President Francois Hollande and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas met in Ramallah where they were reported to have had a frank and honest conversation. President Hollande presented the position that if the Palestinians were serious about establishing an independent state they would need to make at least one single concession and give up their demand for the “Right of Return” forcing Israel to accept numbers of Palestinian refugees and their descendants, some descendants being of the fourth generation of the original refugee, of approximately five million changing Israel into an additional Arab State. Palestinian Authority President Abbas said nothing in response during their meeting. French President Hollande had previously met with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and subsequent to his meeting in Ramallah gave a joint speech appearance with Netanyahu before the Israel Knesset. During these appearances and conversations President Hollande also advised the Israeli leadership that they need to completely stop any planned, present or future, construction in what he referred to as the West Bank, historically known as Judea and Samaria from Biblical times and after until the areas came under internationally rejected Jordanian occupation after the 1948-9 wars where over a half dozen Arab nations and militias attempted to obliterate the nascent Jewish State immediately after its birth. President Hollande’s supposedly friendly advisory is just one of a long litany of demands and conditions made by virtually every government in friendly suggestions and lists which Israel need enact if they are truly desirous of a real peace.

The most interesting item is that all of these well-wishers who regularly advise Israel what steps and sacrifices are required of them so as to reach a true and lasting peace with the Palestinians seldom if ever make a similarly lengthy list of actions that the Palestinians need commit to in order to forge a true and lasting peace with Israel. French President Hollande should be lauded for actually having the honesty to ask that the Palestinians make any gesture by withdrawing their demand for “Right of Return” in order to meet Israel somewhere closer to the middle but still far from the middle. Truth be told, for the Palestinians to come even remotely close to making equal and as significant of concessions to even be considered comparable to the long litany of concessions given by the Israelis that started with the Oslo Accords and continuing seemingly in an unending stream over the twenty-plus years since that accord, the Palestinians would need to surrender many of their most dearly held demands. There is no real need to go into the concessions made by Israel as those who would approach the Arab-Israeli peace talks spanning almost fifty years since the Six Day War already are familiar with many, maybe even most, of these concessions and those who blame Israel for every apparent failure for peace will never believe anything presented in defense of Israel. Just to whet anyone who is interested here is a short list of concessions made by Israel to the Palestinians; the over one-hundred terrorists including many convicted of multiple murders just to facilitate the present negotiations, the Oslo Accords themselves allowing for arch terrorist Yasser Arafat to return and be given a pass for all his previous ties to terror and grant him a diplomatic position and a semiautonomous region to control, a ten month building freeze in Judea and Samaria which became a new Mahmoud Abbas demanded precondition after it was suggested it be imposed on the Israelis by United States President Obama early in his first term, Israel has armed and provided ammunition for the Palestinian Security Forces, and perhaps the most significant, troubling and damnable concessions of them all which was the disengagement from Gaza which led directly to the coup by Hamas over the Palestinian Authority which has resulted in tens of thousands of rockets and mortars launched onto Israeli towns, cities, kibbutzim, farms with the intent of murdering innocent civilians and not for any military or tactical purpose.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said during the joint press conference Monday with French President Francois Hollande that the fate of five million Arab refugees, according to Palestinian provided numbers, must be resolved if a peace treaty is to be achieved with Israel. That must come in addition to the establishment of a PA state in all of Judea, Samaria, and Jerusalem. This demand has been codified into law by the Palestinian Authority Parliament in 2008 which states, “Right of Return of Palestinian refugees to their homes and property, along with compensation for their suffering, is a holy cornerstone of their rights that cannot be negotiated away. There will be no consideration of negotiation on this issue, nor will there be a referendum on it.” An additional law passed by the Palestinian Authority Parliament states, “It is forbidden for Palestinian refugees to leave their current domicile as a solution for the ‘right of return.’ Anyone who acts against this law will be seen as a traitor, and will be subject to the penalties that this crime entails.” The penalty demanded for any Palestinian convicted as a traitor is death, often by hanging in a public square before cheering crowds, and the term traitor with its death punishment is also the result of any conviction for a Palestinian who has sold land to a Jew. Yet the world lines up to take to the public platforms before the press or anybody else they can find to listen to demand that Israel make concessions and stop finding ways to prevent a lasting peace which, according to these sources is the Palestinians dearest desire. Why, one must wonder, does nobody demand that the Palestinians at least make a singular gesture to prove their honest desire for peace. Why not simply request that the Palestinians take actions to end the throwing of rocks the size of bowling balls at Israeli motorists which has claimed numerous lives including infants under three years of age, and that is infants plural, and then judge them by their success or lack of honest effort. Why not tell them that the so-called Two State Solution calls for a Palestinian State called Palestine and a Jewish State called Israel, not two Palestinian States under any name, and then watch as Abbas once more trots out the “Right of Return” demanding that Israel surrender and become an additional Palestinian Arab State and the end of the Jewish Homeland. Where are the rest of the politicians willing to make equal and even demands for both sides and not just blame Israel and Jews for every ill perceived in the world?
