The Israel the Media Ignores Intentionally

There are two sides to virtually every story and by describing only half the story, the media shapes public opinions. This is especially true once political opinions and editorial censors cherry-pick what news to show and when media moguls frame an entire conflict, then the news can lead to damages which can never be reconciled. This has been very true about President Trump and especially the presumed guilt of Russian Collusion, but that we will leave for others to rectify which somehow the Mueller Report failed to close that in many eyes and they will continue to dig and claim to have found evidence demanding another Special Council. Where President Trump might lead in the one sided news stories and the framing such that every last accusation must be treated as the impeachable offense, but coming in second and being such a story for far longer has been Israel which has been hounded and scapegoated by the media consistently since even before President Carter, though his Presidency could be termed as the turning on Israel pivot by the media. We will begin our story with the Gaza regions of Israel and their largely untold story. The map below shows the Israeli cities, towns and Kibbutzim in close proximity to Gaza and there is where we begin.

Gaza Communities and Relative Sizes

Gaza Communities and Relative Sizes

There is one thing that is universal, children at play. Even in the above-pictured towns, one will find children at play. Like many children in the world, they play soccer and any picture of them playing soccer would appear to be totally normal until a second sharper and more detailed look provides what did not quite feel right upon the first glance. What appears wrong is in fact quite normal in these regions. The kids play soccer placing their goals along the mid-field stripe, one just past one end and the other just past the other end. Then they play running across the field placed sideways using the other lines on the field to designate out-of-bounds. Why would they play their games sideways when they have a complete soccer field for their use? Why would they use those easy to move goals when the field had very good permanent goals? It is not that they actually desire to play on a truncated and shortened field, but it has one extremely important quality, it helps them survive. These communities are not protected by the Iron Dome anti-projectile systems. This is because this may be the one improvement which hopefully can be made soon in the future. The reason the Iron Dome is unable to protect these places and the reason the children play soccer on a truncated-sideways field are the same, time; and its being measured at approximately fifteen seconds give or take three seconds depending on out of where in Gaza a rocket or mortar was fired. That fifteen seconds is how long these children, and all the other children outside playing, have to take shelter in any of the public shelters, the shelters which are basically shrapnel catchers often made from large pipes which are also used for water transport (see below). These shelters, which are places strategically in this region’s common areas, playgrounds, shopping centers and wherever a need is recognized, have to be close with easy access as the people and children all have that fifteen seconds to dash into one of these or other shelters. The schools of the region have been fortified with walls and especially roofs thickened with reinforced concrete such that even a direct hit would not penetrate and potentially kill children. Daycares, preschools, many shopping malls, and other stores are reinforced often at the expense of the owners and sometimes with government funding. Fifteen seconds, think about how far you can run in fifteen seconds, how about your mother or your aunt with a hip replacement, the more you think about it, the shorter fifteen seconds becomes. But running does one no great favor unless they have chosen the object into which they are running, and that fifteen seconds after the siren may be a mere seven or eight seconds as the detection took slightly longer to project potential areas which could be struck. The shelters around soccer fields are on both sides of the field at the mid-field stripe close to the benches and where fans would most likely to be situated. This is why the children bring their own goals and set them near the benches on both sides of the field, from this truncated soccer field they can play and reach the shelters most likely in under ten seconds, thus they are playing as safely as can be expected. But that is when they are even permitted to go out and play, as when the chances for Hamas or Islamic Jihad rockets is high, the children are kept at home where there is a safe room, a bomb-proof room built as a government program to retrofit every house with one such structure, most often the smallest bedroom. We would like to show a video but we are forced to provide a link and hope you view it, you will not be sorry.

The next subject we are going to address is a specific form of terrorism which one would not expect to specifically target children. Still, somehow it seems that the only people who suffer injury or worse, death, are inevitably children, by which we mean kids under age thirteen. One of the more recent of these events was editorialized over in this article which is just one of far too many similar events. The place for these terror strikes is almost always a window facing an Arab village in relatively close proximity, and these can be beyond the Green Line or within the Green Line, that boundary makes no difference and this proves that the Palestinian Arab fight is against all of Israel, not just the Green Line. So, it is a sunny Sunday morning and a younger child innocently walks to a window to see the wonderful sights along the valet below. The youth has stood at that window a thousand times and walked away unharmed. Yes, their overly protective mother has yelled and pleaded that they stop standing at that window, but it has the best view and we all know kids will be kids everywhere. This time there is the sound of glass being punched through leaving a hole with three or four cracks spreading a few inches. Almost like a delayed reaction, the child falls to the floor with blood dripping from their soaked shirt and they lie there motionless. The child has been shot by somebody within an Arab village hundreds of meters distant. This is exactly what happened on Sunday March 24, 2019, to a seven year-old boy in Beit El, as in the article. Just imagine that there is a potential for a person to be shot simply because they were visible through a window in the home. What is the answer to this dilemma; homes with fake windows fed either by a camera on the house or any of numerous scenes and themes from the Internet. But, honestly, there has to be a better means of addressing this potentially deadly situation. The youth referenced earlier was severely injured by the bullet but was saved by surgeons at the hospital where he was rushed. In Israel, one of the things we do with great speed and quality is emergency treatment. Most often, the first to arrive are the medics on motorcycles which carry a good-sized compartment with most of what they might require. Next will be the arrival of the ambulance with more EMT’s and these two working closely with hospitals often mean the difference between life and death. These heroes have saved many a life here in Israel and the motorcycle EMT volunteers are one of the reasons, as they can get through traffic far more easily than the ambulance even with sirens as both have sirens to alert other traffic to yield. The first few minutes after an injury are the most vital and often make the difference between life and death which is why the very rapid response in motorcycles EMT’s are such a blessing.

There are more threats such as Hezballah which all but rules Lebanon and has reached an agreement, informally, with the Lebanese military, as a fair number of its recruits are also part of Hezballah as this is how they manage to train their people to use modern heavy military equipment. In our little cozy corner in Nahariya, we are informed that when the sirens sound, we have at the most thirty seconds to reach our Apartment safe room. We tested it and when the dog figured out what we were doing, well, you can guess who was the only one who made it in under twenty seconds. Were we to take the precaution of dropping all of the window steel covers before heading into the safe room it would take closer to four or five minutes. There is nowhere in Israel where one had over three minutes from siren to rocket or missile strike. If an Arab state were permitted in the Shomron, then once Hamas has again taken over the region and Iran has sufficiently armed them in the Shomron areas as they have Hezballah in Lebanon, then nowhere in Israel would more than forty-five seconds between siren and strike (see map below). The map does not show the complete range of Hamas and Islamic Jihad who can readily strike Tel Aviv if they desired so, thus one would be required to extrapolate the times reaching to Haifa and Jerusalem and figure which attack would be more imminent, Hamas and Islamic Jihad or Hezballah, but such would complicate the map considerably.

Time From Siren Launch Warning and Expected Strike

Time From Siren Launch Warning and Expected Strike

Shootings, knifings and rockets can strike anywhere in Israel, but there is another form of lethal terrorism which all Israelis need to keep eyes open seeking a safe wall or other obstacle capable of stopping anything from a car to a ten ton truck to a front loader to any other heavy equipment to sooner or later an APC or Merkava Tank. All of these can be utilized in what we refer to as ramming attacks. Our government reacted fairly rapidly to this threat and put in place at bus stops and light rail stations steel posts cemented into the ground to prevent any vehicle striking any group of people waiting for a ride. This was seen as the best means of protecting the people of Israel, specifically those simply awaiting transportation. There were certain bus stops and light rail stations which appeared to be the favorites of these vehicular terrorists. Perhaps it was ease of access, maybe a long run-up in which to reach speed, or perhaps it allowed numerous escape routs. All too often, these vehicular terrorists will race through an area attempting to ram every bus stop along the way almost inviting an Israeli to shoot if they have a carry license. These terrorists of all stripes appear to have suicidal desires as if their death while committing acts of terror against the general public but more often than not, when the terror becomes an individual attack, inevitably they tend to choose a woman. What some have done to these women is enough to cause one to be sick to their stomach. The fact that they almost always rape their victim, but it is also obvious and included in the death reports that the victim had been brutally tortured and often this brutalization would continue until their victim expired. Coroner reports have, on occasion, been unsure if the rape intercourse came before or after the victim passing from the brutalization.

Often, and here is a crucial point, the terrorist is incapable of understanding that they committed any criminal act. Under Palestinian Authority legal procedures, were one to even face a trial for the murder of a Jew, there would be no possibility for any conviction and by later that afternoon, they would be celebrated in their hometown and across the Palestinian Arab Territories. Yes, there are two regions where the Arabs are ruled over by their own people, Gaza under a Hamas dictatorship and Area A and B under Oslo Accords where they are ruled by the Mahmoud Abbas dictatorship as he is in the fifteenth year of his four-year term as Chairman of the Palestinian Authority. Their oppressions are at the hands of the terror masters ruling them, not Israel. In these regions, Israelis are warned not to enter due to the threat to their lives (see photo below). Should one stray into these regions, their murder would go unpunished and their body also might simply vanish from the face of the earth. Within these regions, terrorism is taught in the schools, broadcast on their televisions where it aggrandized as a courageous way to act, their streets and parks and so much more are named after the terrorists who murdered Jews. Once, a while back, two reservists took a wrong turn ending up in Nablus where they were brutally torn limb from limb by a mob which had surrounded the police building and since the lynch mob was too large for all to take part in the acts, a youth poked out a window and extended his bloodied hands for them to see and gleefully yell with excitement. This photo taken at risk to life and limb by a brave reporter and can be viewed here, warning, violent content. Just to clarify, there are no similar warnings for the Arabs residing in these Arab ruled semi-autonomous regions when they come to enter Israel. There have not been but a few cases of Jewish terrorism against the Arabs, and they have all been imprisoned or died in the commission of their attack. In the Arab media, textbooks, newspapers, radio and virtually every other medium they are fed propaganda, the same tropes, and other traditional anti-Semitic undertones. When it comes to interaction, violent or otherwise, there is only one thing which might cost a Palestinian Arab their life, which is should they sell land or any residence to a Jew. That is against the law while murdering a Jew is considered an impossibility as by murder can only be perpetrated by one human being against another human being and under their laws, a Jew is not a human being and thus cannot be murdered. The closest one can get to the way the Palestinian Arab society views Jews would be to use a term recently used by Louis Farrakhan who stated, “I‘m not an anti-Semite, I’m anti-termite.”

Children in Israel are generally unbothered by the threats which abound. This is because even with terrorism, they know that it is unlikely to strike them. Many of the teenagers, like teenagers everywhere, they believe that they are invulnerable, invincible and indestructible. Israel remains within the first dozen nations of the world for happiness and our children bring us joy and are the definition of joy. What is a terrible thing is explaining to a child, five, six, seven years old, that they must never stand before the living room windows because they might be shot. We do not always see the scars caused by running to shelters sometimes multiple times each day for weeks on end. It does become evident on some children but others find some means of coping and even reaching a level of understanding. The fact that this is even permitted to pass without a solid effort to protect and serve the people, especially the youth who are our future, is a disgrace. The time has come where the citizens of Israel need to ask themselves what nation and what problems are they willing to pass off to their children. Can anybody claim that we need to pass the present broken system which allows citizens to be bombarded for as much as a week, a month or even longer off to our children where they will one day face this same dilemma? Israelis are electing the next government on Tuesday, April 9, 2019. We all need to think long and hard as to what we expect of our government. Do we want to remain with the kick the can down the road because to do what is necessary might upset much of the world. Well Boo Hoo I could cry you a river.

We need to report here that we belong to Jewish Home and thus are not exactly impartial. With the expected reelection of Bibi Netanyahu, we can expect that can to be kicked further down the road almost as if he prefers to retain the problems which allow him to retain his position AS Prime Minister. But perhaps the Israelis are ready to try a new and fresh approach. This could be a dangerous proposition as who would make a better Prime Minister would become the question. What we would need is somebody who understands the problems and who actually would prefer not to ever become Prime Minister and had to be coaxed to even enter the political ring. We have always thought that those who prefer not to hold power are often the most suited to wielding that same power and doing so with pinpoint accuracy. Currently, General Gantz is considered to be the main rival and he comes with Yair Lapid being Prime Minister after two years. With each man taking two years, it is doubtful much could be accomplished. Of course, that might be a good thing, as their stance on many issues would lead inevitably to a final Arab Israeli war, as the next war will end very abruptly and in a conflagration unseen by the world to our knowledge. This would be a very bad result but it would be an unavoidable result of simply providing a Palestinian State through another disengagement except this time the IDF will still patrol in the region. Their plan is to take the fiasco of the Gaza Disengagement and apply this to the Shomron and pull out the established cities and infrastructure leaving everything beyond the Security Barrier to the Palestinian Authority and top this off by leaving the IDF within lands Israel has discharged all claims of her sovereignty which is exactly the situation in Lebanon which eventually led to a disorderly and disgracing evacuation of the IDF which led to numerous complications. But General Gantz claims he has learned how to do these things correctly and yet that does not fill me with calm acceptance that he would be anything but a disaster. Of the remaining candidates, none of which have anything better than a hope and a prayer, but Israel is the land of hopes and prayers and where they can come together at the strangest times and ways. The main two choices would be Bennett and Peretz which would be a difficult choice. Of the two, General Peretz is the unknown while Bennett, along with Shaked, is known from their years with the Jewish Home Party. Well, they left that party in an absolute disaster of a state which appeared initially would be the end of Jewish Home as a viable party to reach the Knesset. Bennett claims he would be completely different from Bibi Netanyahu and that he left Jewish Home because we had caved to Netanyahu too often. Well, he was the party chairman who decided when we were to cave to Netanyahu and it was he that made those policies which we were to follow. We will allow you to draw your own conclusions from that. Ayelet Shaked did perform well and brought some miracles into the Justice System. The work there is far from done and short of forcing many of the Justices to pick up and leave a vacancy, which is unlikely. Former General Peretz is the wildcard. He was happily retired when he was approached and invited to take the lead of a damaged and injured party limping off to lick its wounds and possibly die if it failed to make the Knesset. Rafi Peretz is a man of moral leadership which he proved in numerous different roles during his time with the IDF. He was initially a combat helicopter pilot while later in his career he was the Chief Rabbi of the IDF. As a Rabbi, you know Rafi Peretz would be a moral leader, not just because he was a Rabbi but because he was selected as the Chief Rabbi of the IDF. Then one has to consider his other service as a combat helicopter pilot. This implies a man with great coordination, able of complex thoughts while engaged in the challenging piloting of the helicopter. He also knows the horrors of warfare but appreciates the greater risk sometimes caused by not acting. He has had to work as part of a team and also been responsible for actions he undertook on his own as a pilot. Where I cannot claim to have great insight into General Rafi Peretz (Ret.), my gut tells me that this is probably just the man Israel has been seeking. We will see his performance as we proceed and should he rebuild Jewish Home and make it into a party capable of challenging Likud, then we will see how much Israel can love him. Rafi Peretz taking the lead of Jewish Home has already had effects upon some friends and acquaintances who served in the IDF when he was Chief Rabbi and they respect the man so much that a fair number of them are switching parties. We are simply fortunate that such a leader has taken charge of rebuilding our party and now we will get the true measure of the man as time proceeds. Maybe the next election he can challenge for the top spot as Likud cannot last into eternity, or can it?

What Did Ireland Do To You Lately?

In my little corner of the world, perched snuggled in at the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea, we have read that Ireland does not like all Israelis equally and shows disdain for those Jews who employ thousands of Arab Palestinians who could lose their jobs if what Ireland decided to support works. The prototypical example was SodaStream. SodaStream was an Israeli owned and run company with their main manufacturing plant beyond the Green Line. The BDS boycotters harried and hassled with noisy demonstrations, often inside the grocery store targeted, such that they joined the boycott of SodaStream. NGO’s had bought advertisements calling for the boycott of SodaStream. Well, SodaStream was a growing company and required a larger plant. They decided that they had been targeted enough and built their new plant within the Green Line selling off the land they had in the industrial park. This closing resulted in five-hundred Arab Palestinians losing their well paying jobs. Some were managers and in upper supervisory positions. These were jobs which paid better than almost anything one can do beyond the Green Line. Ireland wants every Israeli employed Arab Palestinian to lose their jobs. Probably, when Ireland has convinced others that destroying jobs helps the Arab Palestinian cause, then they will accuse Israel of not employing Arab Palestinians finding this a deplorable example of racism. That is a simple plan, cause a problem and then blame the Jews for the problem you caused. There is a name for such activity.

Does anybody remember what the first thing Hitler arranged to occur? He gave Germany the Brownshirts to destroy a mere ten percent of the stores in the Jewish Quarter of every major German city. His hope was it would frighten the rest into packing up and leaving. The Jews insisted on remaining as they had rights in the German Republic. Turns out that was a very bad plan. Ze’ev Jabotinsky made numerous appeals in an attempt to take the Jews from Europe, at least Poland and Germany, as many as possible. They scoffed at him and claimed he was a conspiracy type, having wild visions that the Jews who had been living in relative safety, the pogrom here or there every four or five years, but millions are not in danger, how could that be. Well, the rest is history, but it started with targeting a limited number of Jews, just those Jews. Jews need to learn that if there is one bad Jew, then we need be wary; when it becomes those Jews, it is time to go. They even asked where could they flee to, what country would take us in, they wanted to know. Eretz Yisroel was his answer and they had heard that life was rough in Israel where much of the world is very much like hard labor digging new irrigation to replace a swamp, of course step one is drain the swamp. That was not for them, they were merchants and tradesmen, not ditch diggers. Ditch digger probably looked like a very enticing place to be in a few years when the world darkened its soul. Then, anything in the Holy Land would have been better than the camps. They had made the most dreadful mistake not seeing the signs and doing something, anything to avoid what came.

Ignoring the signs is a modern thing as well. I do not wish to talk about Europe or North America and what they may be ignoring at their own peril. I want to remain with Israel and what she hopefully has planned out is an exacting plan, as almost any plan is preferable to waiting until it is on the verge of too late. Razor thin margins between horrific devastation and, Whew, that was a close one. The world knows about the rioting along the Gaza border which is ratcheted up and allowed to mellow until they decide Israel needs a good poking and stoking the riot cauldron. Gaza became such old news that even when they launch a volley of rockets every so often, that barely makes the news as the Iron Dome has proven very well worth the investment. Then there is Mahmoud Abbas, eighty-one-year-old Mahmoud Abbas. There are no set in place replacement as was with Arafat who had groomed Mahmoud making him the obvious next in line. There is no next in line, there are quite a few and this problem we discussed just the other day. The result will likely be Hamas takes as much of the lands as they have support, which they actually do in the Arab Palestinian society. But they are still a relative known, for now.

Then there is Lebanon and Hezballah. That can be summed up in a single fact, they have approximately one-hundred-fifty-thousand rockets and missiles pointed at the length and breadth of Israel. They have installed bunker positions connected by tunnels throughout the entire region south of the Litany River. They have ambush sites specifically for catching tanks and the anti-tank rockets to put a hurt on any tank, be it a Merkava, Abrams, Leopard, Black Panther, Armata or Challenger, the top six tanks in the world. Many of their firing and sniper locations are inside of people’s homes as are some of their mortars and rocket launchers. Every town as well as the cities are a maze of interconnected positions and command and control points. The entire arrangement used by Hezballah, as well as Hamas, is designed for a smaller and lighter armed group to overwhelm a more heavily armored and presumably more advanced, though that is no longer a truth as the Iranian computer systems and communications are actually quite good, but presumably superior enemy by making them pay dearly for every block and face ambushes on the connecting roads. The way to defeat this type of force is actually very easy, bomb the entire area until the entire land mass has dropped about ten feet, and then drop incendiary bombs to sanitize the rest. This is the way wars were fought by the powers in both World Wars, and then these same nations decided to write a code such that they could never do such warfare again. Do you know what happens to any civilization which decides that there are limits in what one is permitted to do in performance of military actions. They are conquered by the first group who is willing to use things beyond these limits, many things from amongst the worst variety which you would never resort to using. Israel refuses to use such a plan, they would never even write such a plan, because it would be such a waste of human lives is an abomination to Israelis and their military. For proof we offer any of the numerous testimonies given by foreign officers who served as observers during IDF activities both in war and peacekeeping such as British Officer Richard Kemp on Israeli Defense Force tactics and actions.

So, massive bombing and raining down missiles will not likely be the Israeli response to an enemy completely prepared for a ground invasion and susceptible to an air campaign. So, if and when it becomes unavoidable, Israel will resort to playing by their enemy’s rules with a ground slog. That becomes position to position fighting with house to house in towns and cities, and watching for ambush on any open ground movement. This is the most difficult means of clearing a region and poses the highest risks to your soldiers, but it prevents civilian casualties as much as the situation enables. That is why Israel uses her soldiers in situations where heavy bombing would be faster and save on IDF casualties. But that would also kill too many presumably innocent civilians of southern Lebanon.

But the final front is potentially the most threatening, and that is the small section of the Golan Heights and the border with Syria. Syria offers some unique situations and peculiar angles all in one short border. The real enemy on the other side of the Golan Heights is not so much Syria as it is Iran, specifically the IRGC, and Hezballah. They send up a few rockets every couple of weeks just to test if Israel sleeping at the switch. Israel has struck numerous targets within Syria but, and here is the wild part, without ever violating Syria airspace. There is a simple problem with making one of your limits overflying Syria, the range as to how deeply your missiles launched from over Israel can penetrate into Syria. But this is the chosen response of which we are aware. The problem with shots coming from the Syrian side of the border is one has to first determine what this particular incident represents. It could be an errant round from a firefight in Syria, was it a sniper shot, and if so, what was the firing position. Then there are larger objects which on occasion have come across the border. There were artillery rounds fired which were using the wrong targeting address, the numbers were transposed. That was relatively easily resolved. But then there are those other objects which are intentionally fired or launched at Israel. There are artillery rounds which target vehicles, plural, and positions, also plural, or are observed lining up and firing with intent to strike Israeli targets, military and civilian, then comes the time to eliminate that particular firing position or positions. Sniper fire need be suppressed and the sniper eliminated if possible. The easiest to determine is the anti-tank missiles. These are line of sight missiles with a variety of aiming controls, some better than others, but the projectile is largely straight-line path. There is no doubt what was targeted and from whence the projectile was launched. There is a trail of smoke leading to a large cloud of dust and debris from the back-blast of the launch which denotes exactly where the weapon was fired. This makes removing that weapon fairly easy while the operator somewhat more difficult as a smart operator leaves the weapon and puts distance between themselves and the point the weapon was fired as quickly as they are able often having a spot prepared for them to leap behind as protection from return fire. Then there are the rockets which are fired weekly. Finally, there are the drones, many of which were weaponized, which have been flown by numerous means into Israel. There have been preprogrammed drones which are made most often for a specific attack which the drone takes a complicated, low-profile approach to the target becoming visible only when it raises up to fire. There are those with human pilots which are useful for hunting a target such as a vehicle or person which is of particular importance. Then there are drones which are computer guided with a human operator overseeing the flight and in case of detection, they can take command of the drone in order to retreat. Sometimes all that might take is pressing a key which puts in place an override set of directions. All of these types of events of fire have occurred with somewhat regular rate of occurrence. The main reason nobody has heard about this is simple, Israel has not violated Syrian airspace while Iran, Hezballah, IRGC and Syrian forces have all invaded Israeli airspace and fired upon Israeli positions and civilians. All of those events where they crossed into Israel, specifically with the drones, were acts of war, which as Israel is still with war with Syria really makes everything even stranger than usual. Israel needs more than solutions for each of these fronts but far more. Israel needs a select group of precise plans and target lists for the first two hours, because that is exactly how quickly actions will be required, for any three fronts erupting in a coordinated fashion to maximize their initial strikes.

Distance Between Israel and Iran Plus Nuclear Sites and Size Comparison

Distance Between Israel and Iran Plus Nuclear Sites and Size Comparison

Now for the numbers about Iran and Israel, mostly real numbers but we will tell when the numbers are our projections. The first thing is that Iran has numerous missiles which easily reach over two-thousand kilometers, more than for enough to strike Israel. Iranian missiles have excellent guidance packages with many different kinds. Their accuracy is within meters of any intended target. They also have numerous rockets with sufficient range to reach Israel from Iran if their desire is to lob rockets indiscriminately at any general region. Iran can fire their rockets and missiles from anywhere in Iran and strike Israel, and where within Iraq as well as anywhere in much of Syria or even from Yemen if they are seeking to try a surprise, though mostly they fire at Saudi Arabia from Yemen. Israel can easily strike Iran and probably strike any target within a matter of under a meter and has tracking systems so as to strike the launch point no matter where Iran launches so return fire can be almost immediate. Iran has a slight size advantage over Israel, as it is seventy-nine times the size of Israel. Contrary to the fables that the United States and European media have been feeding the world, the Iranians have worked on atomic weapons since the late 1980’s and have very likely been making atomic warheads very probably for fifteen to twenty years, according to our guess. As one can see on the map, Iran has seven nuclear installations and four of them are Uranium mines. This means they have all the necessary nuclear material within their borders for the production of atomic bombs. The odds are they also have cracked how to miniaturize hydrogen fusion bombs and by our figuring they could have as many as fifteen to fifty all depending on their ability to get the necessary isotopes for the construction of a device. In the case of a nuclear exchange between Israel and Iran, it is doubtful Israel would survive anywhere resembling intact were Iran to launch everything all in a single strike; but Iran also would not survive the exchange despite the size differential. The problem is the Grand Ayatollah has stated that he is willing to permit the destruction of Iran if that also means that Israel was destroyed, as that would be a fair price to pay. Most, if not the vast majority, of Israelis would not accept this exchange as most hold no animosity for the Iranian people and do not wish them such harm, only their own government believes this would be acceptable. What is so worrying is that it appears as if Iran is attempting to set up some reason for making a war with Israel and using their presence in Syria in order to provoke such an attack that they could utilize it to demand the complete destruction of Israel and then fill the obvious void for the Arab world and destroy Israel themselves and claiming their victory with the hopes of turning the Arab world over to Shiite Islam. The leadership in Iran is not mentally stable or possibly not even sane by most standards, but they are heavily armed, potentially with advanced nuclear weapons and chemical weapons, are establishing hegemony across the Middle East and see destroying Israel as their right and privilege to do so for Allah. They feel similarly about the United States and only a little less antagonistic towards Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States. They have often mentioned being the new Persian Empire. Iran is probably amongst the top ten dangerous nations most likely to start the next great cataclysm.

Gaza Didn’t Make Us Wait Long Enough

Hamas has returned to their old tried and true means of irritating Israel, mortars and soon to be followed by rockets. At least eighty rockets and mortars were launched and while most were intercepted, one landed in the yard of a kindergarten, slightly wounding a worker, another in Netivot where one resident was treated for shock and another round struck three IDF soldiers were wounded by shrapnel with one requiring hospitalization. We thank Hashem that no children were injured in the kindergarten in that strike though ten people in various communities in southern Israel have suffered emotional shock due to the barrage of rockets and the resulting iron dome interceptions. The mortar striking the grounds of a kindergarten was in the Eshkol region bordering Gaza a mere short period before pupils were to arrive for the morning. This attack could be simply considered the next phase of the Hamas summer offensive. We have fortunately not experienced the levels of violence in the past few summers as we are this summer. We can only assume that Hamas has received orders from their Iranian masters to push Israel into another summer war along the Gaza front. Should things reach such a level demanding an Israeli response, we will know they were ordered from Tehran if the propaganda arm in Iran is ramped up in addition to the others who always decide before they witness anything that Israel has to be at blame.

The media which cover the Gaza and other confrontations between Israel and the various Arab Islamic forces on her several borders seldom leave their hotels and coffee bistros. They prefer the safety and the beach scenery found in Tel Aviv and leave the coverage to stringers readily provided by Hamas. The stringers all but write the final story and provide ample satisfying pictures to be included. These stringers also provide video for the major television and internet news agencies. Often five or six stringers will provide live coverage with a convincing moderator who speaks fluent English with just a hint of an accent. This is acceptable to the major news media as such coverage provided by Hamas is often exactly the slant on the reporting which they prefer, especially print media in Europe and much of it in the United States and Canada. Many news reports in the Western World will open their coverage reporting that Israel struck at numerous sites within Gaza today and talk all about the damage and other pertinent coverage making these attacks sound horrific. They will include that tank or artillery fire accompanies the screaming jet fighters overhead and then towards the end of their broadcast they will mention that the Israeli strikes were in response to Gaza mortar fire and they might even mention that a shell landed in a kindergarten. They will add that there were no children present when the round struck and make note that Israeli Iron Dome intercepted the vast majority of the rounds.

They love to point out that the rocket and mortar attacks are intercepted by Israel as if that makes it as if the attack never happened. Then they stress that the rounds fired by Israel all hit their targets or struck within Gaza thus the force used is disproportional as more Israeli rounds successfully struck while the Gazan fired mortars were intercepted. Israel, apparently, is only permitted to shoot an equal number of rounds to the number which successfully struck within Israel and Israel must suffer an equal number of casualties as does Hamas and Gaza or the war is considered an unfair fight. Since when was warfare supposed to be a fair fight? We have always believed the object of warfare was to win and to win as convincingly as possible while raking the minimum amount of damage and casualties while imposing the maximum damage and casualties on your enemy. Apparently, the real rules of war as they fit other nations are modified for Israel.

The reality which will most likely follow this reinitiating of hostilities by Hamas and Islamic Jihad out of Gaza will be followed by resumed, or should we say increased, rioting and violence along the border. The terrorists will follow on with more rockets and mortar fire continuing initially at a lower level attempting to gauge Israeli responses such that they avoid a general attack by Israel to clear the terrorist groups’ storehouses and destroy as many of the launchers as can be located. This is what has happened in the past three offensives which Israel resorted to after the previous series of launching of these projectiles reached levels which had become intolerable. Still, despite taking far more assaults by terrorists into the small nations of Israel than even far larger nations would ever suffer without responding, the media still questions Israeli decisions to respond even after weeks of ever-increasing indirect fire into her territory threatening her citizens in an ever-wider area. Over the years, Hamas and Islamic Jihad, despite the blockade which Israel has imposed in order to prevent weapons of ever greater destruction, greater range or moderating technologies from reaching the terrorists in Gaza, Iran had managed to smuggle plans and rocket motors and even basic guidance systems through tunnels or other clandestine means into Gaza greatly increasing all areas of range, warhead weight, explosive volatility, accuracy and more advanced technologies making the potentials of such fire out of Gaza causing unimaginable damage has become a dire threat for Israel.

As wonderful and unimaginably effective as the Iron Dome system has proven, Israel does not possess anywhere near sufficient such systems to prevent every dangerous launch. Another problem is that in some of the tallest buildings in Tel Aviv, there is no way to get everybody out of the building and into a below-ground shelter. This is why there are safe-rooms built inside the newer high-rise buildings allowing for the safety of the occupants. There is still one major difficulty with the system, Hamas has been provided with the M75, also called the Khyber-1, missile which has a guidance system with a range which easily reaches Tel Aviv and possibly even Haifa. This missile carries a 175 kg (385.8 lb) warhead which is most often fired from a multiple rocket launcher, typically truck or trailer mounted. It is the range and warhead which make this into a large problem for Israel, as they are a multiple-launch-system, and they could potentially strike a target with more than one of these larger missiles. The potential for a barrage of this rocket system has the potential of bringing down any building it strikes making the shelters no longer the safe-rooms. The danger of a war between Israel and the terror government of Gaza has become an existential threat which if the worst should come to fruition, the governing coalition would probably fold if their reaction was not immediate and of a scale which would prevent Hamas, Islamic Jihad or any other terror group to ever operate from Gaza ever in the future.

This is the reality which the government is currently facing. They are attempting to walk the fine line between lower end military response such that the world does not explode and bring every imaginable pressure down on Israel causing great damage to the Israeli economy and not striking sufficiently hard to prevent further attacks and escalation by Hamas, Islamic Jihad and others from Gaza resulting in a disaster such as bringing down a high-rise skyscraper in Tel Aviv killing potentially well over a thousand Israelis causing a general revolt of the electorate bringing down their government. The pressure to simply overreact to any provocation grows within the Israeli populace and should further assaults continue from Gaza, there will be a point where the Israeli population will demand that they be brought to an end and to do so once and for all. The patience in Israel for these constant attacks every few years has grown short and the pressure to simply respond to any attack with overwhelming force is growing. Along with this intolerance for attacks and terrorism, there is also a growing pressure to simply apply Israeli law to every Israeli population center beyond the Green Line and ending the military rule and their often choosing to impose British, Jordanian and even Ottoman law and a system which demands the defendant prove their innocence, the guilty until proven innocent style of old French style law. There are currently moves being made to demand that all Israelis be permitted the respect and modern law enforcement such that the weight of proof falls upon the State, and the accused is innocent until proven guilty. We pray that Israeli law is extended and the innocent until proven guilty becomes the rule throughout the land for all Israelis. We also pray that there are no more attacks from Gaza and if there is another attack such as today, the response be such that none of the terrorists in Gaza desire testing Israel any further. We have a suggestion on how exactly such could be managed; simply target every Hamas and Islamic Jihad leadership’s homes. Warnings should be given such that their families are not killed and only the homes are destroyed. We would hope that such would be sufficient to prevent their escalating further. Lastly, should they insist on attempting to murder Israeli civilians; the next attack should, after warnings, take out the beautiful mall, the grand hotels, the top end shops, the fine restaurants and other such places where the leaders and cronies enjoy the good life. The time has come to leave the people of Gaza in peace and make those who push the terrorism be made to pay.
