Israel Did Not Win the 1948 War

If the definition of winning a war is holding your own territory or enlarging your territory, then Israel cannot be said to have won their 1948-9 so-called War of Independence. Israel lost the Gaza Strip to Egypt and most of Judea and all of Samaria to the Jordanians and lost the Golan Heights to Syria. That is what most would agree defines losing the war. The reason Israel is said to have won the war is because the invading Arab armies, all six or seven depending on whose recounting you read, did not manage to drive the Jews into the sea and slaughter every last Jew. So, if one Jew had survived, would that have also been winning the war? Probably not as they might not have lived long enough after only that singular Jew showed up for the victory parade unsure if they were a participant or a spectator. Whichever one they chose would negate the other making the entire dilemma an exercise in futility.

This is a very important perception which must be emphasized, the war of 1948-9 was not Israel’s War of Independence, it was the Israeli Defensive War for Survival. This is a particular and important concept. Israel survived the war of 1948-9; we did not win that war. Israel won the Six Day War and the Yom Kippur War which were also both defensive wars. The fact that both were defensive wars permits retention of parts or all of the gained lands and guarantees that any lands regained which had been lost in a previous defensive struggle (war) are liberated lands and automatically not only can but must remain under the control of the entity regaining lands lost and the peoples who may have settled in those lands are foreign citizens at best and enemy combatants which may be forced from those lands as they were illegally settled there after the former war. Any of the regained lands which had belonged to the liberating nationals is returned to them and the squatters removed. Such situations get clouded and fuzzy as there are so few precedents as nations very rarely regain lost lands and more often the comparable situation is when lands are given to the defending nation as reward for having been invaded as compensation as the attacking nation rarely has funds which can be considered restitution so lands whose real original ownership is contested or undetermined is made part of the defending national lands and no longer contested under International Law. This was the case for France and Poland when they regained contested areas. It should be noted that any residents of the area which was contested or for other reasons is rewarded to the defender which survived and gained such lands in their defensive struggle may be made to resettle in their original national citizenship, another important concept to be remembered in Israel’s case in defensive wars.

So, since the war brought against Israel in 1948-9 was initiated with the lands awarded Israel, after the Arab entities declined the partition, was defined as the starting borders for Israel of the Sinai-Negev border, the Golan Heights border with Syria, and the Jordan River with Jordan. These lands are Israeli lands and anything less are lands lost in a defensive war and in the case of Israel a defensive war of survival. This must be stressed at all times that the original war which often has the title War of Independence thrust on Israel is in reality the Israel War for Survival. If the 1948-9 war was a war of independence, then Israel would have been warring with the British who were the holding entity of these lands before Israel presumably had to fight for their independence which was not the case. The British held the mandate until such time as the Jewish population was deemed sufficient to form a viable nation on the lands being held and ‘guarded’ by the British under their Mandate from World War I and still after World War II. The borders were as described above, the Golan Heights, the Jordan River, the Sinai-Negev border and the border with Lebanon all as described in the British Mandate at the point of the British guarantors departing and turning these lands over in total to Israel when all her neighbors reinforced with armies from other nations well beyond the Israeli borders such as the troops from Iraq and Yemen amongst other militias and other forces which were not under a national flag. Israel continued to exist after this War of Survival, but be it under truncated lands. This is crucial to be made accurate that the originating borders of Israel were, and these three are the most important, the Sinai-Negev border including Gaza, the Golan Heights which at the highest point being the least generous definition (anything beyond the central line on the Golan Heights would be described as additional lands in order to secure said border from further aggressions). This is important and is an application in this particular case, and the most important, the Jordan River.

Since the time of the initial Israeli War for Survival that Israel managed, despite having important and valuable lands stolen from her defined borders had managed to retain these truncated lands with the international powers setting a new border as the Green Line, the position of the front at a set day and time, defined the lands Israel managed through great expense to retain while there exists large areas of Israeli lands now occupied by Egypt in the Gaza, Syria in the Golan Heights, and Jordan from the western side of the Jordan River. These areas described between the Green Line and the original borders upon the departure of the British are occupied lands by Jordanian aggression. They instigated the war upon the nascent state of Israel in total disregard for the legal border of the nation of Israel as defined by the British Mandate. The remaining areas were occupied Israeli lands liberated, not stolen, from Jordan which had been set by an agreement between the Zionist Congress and Britain, not like the Zionists had any manner of arguing at that time. Further proof of these facts come as numerous Jews were forced from their lands in Judea, Samaria, Gaza and the Golan Heights by their occupying powers, These lands should have been immediately returned to their rightful owners when these lands were liberated and returned to within Israel’s borders in the Six Day War of June 1967 and retained in the Yom Kippur War in 1973.

That is as simple as it would get under any other circumstance where any other nation other than Israel was the eventual victor in 1967 and survivor in 1948-9 Wars. The first and most important fact is that Israel was attacked in 1948-9 on that initial morning of May 15, 1948 and was fighting against a War of Annihilation, a War of genocidal intent in which had Israel not managed to retain even the smallest sliver of lands in which to squeeze and accept those refugees forced from their original lands by the invading and genocidal nations while settling all of her peoples from the originally larger land mass defined by the British controlled areas upon their departure and their rewarding these lands to the Jewish State of Israel. The borders left by the British at midnight or even dawn of May 15, 1948 are the legal and just defined lands of the original borders for the State of Israel. These are the definition of Israel and any foreign peoples or peoples whose intent is to steal these lands from the Jewish Nation may legally be forced to leave the areas and return to within the border of the previous occupying power which in Judea and Samaria and East Jerusalem are any peoples who claim other than Israeli citizenship by legal definition, Any former citizens of Jordan or Transjordan, Syria, Egypt, Lebanon, or other Arab land of origin may be required to depart as they were illegally settled on these lands. What could be a more simple and obvious concept?

There is one reason and one reason alone that the normal Rules of War and traditional laws regarding land of conquest after a defensive war by the defending power if by some miracle they blunted the attacking forces and then proceeded to drive them from lands that were previously contested or occupied and lands beyond those contested or occupied lands. It boils down to the nations who were the hegemonic powers of the world, all of them including the antagonistic powers of the Soviet Union which backed all Arab and Muslim claims and contested the fact of Israel’s existence, the French and British who had originally under the Mandates set up in the San Remo Conference were holding the lands of the British Mandate for the formation of the Jewish State, and the United States which had proven to make the defining difference in the contest of World War I. The British did at a point very early in their duties as the manager of the Mandate for the Jewish State forsake that role and make a proposition to the Zionist Congress and the Jews residing in the British Mandate for all seventy-eight percent of the Mandate for the Jewish State west of the Jordan River be surrendered by the Zionist Congress for the formation of an Arab State under Hashemite rule in return for which the British Crown would be the guarantor of the remaining twenty-two percent as solely for the formation of the Jewish State. The Zionist Congress at that time having no military of any consequence acquiesced to the British offer realizing the alternative would be the British simply throwing the Jews to the fate of the Arabs and washing their hands of any responsibility and pretending that no such entity known as the British Mandate had ever existed and taken a San Remo Conference, wasn’t that the little ski weekend the major powers held in the Italian Alps somewhere, despite San Remo being along the Italian Riviera with nice beaches and not a ski slope in sight. What real choice did the Zionist Congress have? None might be a good defining place to start and less would be a more refined assessment. So, there we have a definitive definition of a real and defined border emerging from the definition of British Mandate lands for the Jewish State, the Jordan River. Everyone did catch that definition by the British and presumably backed by the British Crown for all time, well, until it was not backed by even a single British citizen if they knew what was good for them and wished to avoid a lifetime admission to the tower of London.

As Israel voluntarily departed from the Gaza during the disengagement, Israel was left facing the prospect of resettling eight to nine thousand refugees who had been displaced. Israel is still resettling the remaining thousand Israeli Jewish refugees. The list of communities of Jews in Gaza dissolved and their occupants resettled numbered twenty-one and were named; Bedolah, Bnei Atzmona, Dugit, Elei Sinai, Gadid, Gan Or, Ganei Tal, Katif, Kfar Darom, Kfar Yam, Kerem Atzmona, Morag, Neve Dekalim, Netzarim, Netzer Hazani, Nisanit, Pe’at Sadeh, Rafiah Yam, Slav, Shirat Hayam, and Tel Katifa. Additionally, there were also four sizeable communities dissolved as part of the allowances for a semi-autonomous areas in Judea and Samaria defined as Area A were Kadim, Ganim, Homesh and Sa-Nur. There were two other areas set aside and given definitions where Area B was under a form of joint security and governance which would be where the border would presumably be drawn during any agreement and an Area C which was completely under Israeli control and was intended to be incorporated back within Israeli borders at the conclusion of any settlement. According to International Law and what has been applied in virtually every instance, even some despite centuries of the usurped lands coming into major population shift towards the occupying nation, the lands were returned to their previous sovereign and all foreign nationals expelled and lands returned to originating family ownership or the State where no heirs were able to be located.

Judea and Samaria as proposed division between Israel and the invented Arab Palestine promised nation replacing Israel and actual legal under International Law Israeli lands

We have yet to hear any cogent and reasonable explanation given us beyond blatant anti-Semitisms for the complete disregard for International Law and all precedent for the denials to Israel for reconstituting her original borders and permitting the expulsion of at the least those actively challenging and using terror so as to attempt to force Israel from her returned lands. The World Powers, even those claiming to be the Israelis best friends, are quick to demand that Jews be restricted, forbidden or removed from any lands and some even call for the eradication of Israel as they stand in judgement over Israel while standing with the Arab demands. With such friends enemies become a luxury as they at least act their part. We really do not know how to make this any simpler; all of the lands west of the Jordan River up to and including the Golan Heights and Mount Hermon and the areas west of the center of the Sea of Galilee are rightfully Israeli lands by means of all International law. The facts that Jordan occupied the lands previously and then pretended to give them after they no longer possessed the lands thus attempting to give away formerly occupied lands which had been rightfully restored to their rightful owners and the world backs the occupier’s claim to be leaving lands they no longer occupy and never truly owned to a third and previously never before heard of peoples is the ultimate act of indecency by all supporting such insanity and thievery. Can we for the fifteen minutes it would take to set things right just sign over the formerly occupied lands back to the rightful and legal owner, Israel? Such honesty in dealing with the Jewish Nation would be appreciated as we are tired of fighting even our friends on this issue. To be completely honest, this insane tearing-up of International Law and couching to accept claims that all of Israel actually never belonged to any Jews and has always belonged to some Arabs who adopted a name which at best referred to a tribe of Greek Mediterranean seafaring tradesmen.

Let us close with one of the honest assessments of the origins and reasons for the invention of a special subtribe of Arabs which had never existed in all of history and were invented in order to replace Israel and end Jewish rights in what they believe is conquered and permanent Arab Muslim lands. The quote is from PLO executive committee member Zahir Muhsein, in a 1977 interview with the Dutch newspaper Trouw; where he gave this honest assessment of the faux-people the Palestinians were.

“The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct ‘Palestinian people’ to oppose Zionism. For tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa. While as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan.”

What can one add to such honesty, the one-time honest appraisal of why the requirement to invent an entire population out of nothing, absolutely nothing. For good measure we can add the plot by none other than Yasser Arafat, and Egyptian born and raised in Cairo and Alexandria and whose ties to the lands of Israel were cousins whose parents left Egypt and came where there were jobs and a future. Yasser Arafat came to make himself rich beyond his wildest dreams on the backs of the very people he claimed to lead knowing he was a Soviet Puppet on stage with somebody else pulling his strings. Yet on the same day Yasser Arafat signed the Declaration of Principles on the White House lawn in 1993 with Israeli Prime Minister Rabin in the presence of President William Jefferson Clinton, Arafat explained his actions on Jordan TV. This is what he said,

“Since we cannot defeat Israel in war, we do this in stages. We take any and every territory that we can of Palestine, and establish sovereignty there, and we use it as a springboard to take more. When the time comes, we can get the Arab nations to join us for the final blow against Israel.”

The only thing to add after those quotes is it is over; Game, Set, Match!

David Horowitz Freedom Center has launched the “Jew Hatred on Campus” campaign which produced a list of the “Top Ten” offenders guilty of allowing harassment against Jewish students. The top ten universities played host to numerous incidents of anti-Jewish actions, such as Israeli Apartheid Weeks, interrupting university activities by staging mock “checkpoints” on campus, campus speakers that call for the destruction of the Jewish state, as well as verbal and/or physical harassment and violence against Jewish and pro-Israel students.

Jew Hatred on Campus founder David Horowitz stated, “These anti-Semitic incidents occur on university property, often with the support of university funds, despite the fact that such behavior is explicitly forbidden under campus codes of conduct. We made the decision to form ‘Jew Hatred on Campus’ to expose anti-Semitic student groups who support or are associated with known terrorist organizations such as Hamas and Hezbollah, and which call for the destruction of the Jewish State. These activities against Jewish and pro-Israel students would not be tolerated by university administrators if they were committed against students from any other ethnic group. But because Jews are the target, they have been largely ignored. It is an obligation of university administrators to recognize and condemn acts of anti-Semitism by campus hate groups and to withdraw campus privileges and university support from them.”

Now, without further delay, here are the top ten listings of those colleges and universities found to have the highest antagonism and biases anti-Israel, anti-Zionism and ordinary anti-Semitism which led to a threat based attitude towards Jewish and pro-Israel students endangering the safety of such students. “Jew Hatred on Campus” top ten list reveals some very noticeable names as well as some surprises and also some well-respected educational institutions which permitted and even enabled and abated such animosities leaving a very poisonous atmosphere which stifled and had serious negative impacts according to extensive surveys and various data collection techniques revealed:

1) Columbia University
2) Cornell University
3) George Mason University
4) Loyola University Chicago
5) Portland State University
6) San Diego State University
7) San Francisco State University
8) Temple University
9) University of California Los Angeles (UCLA)
10) Vassar College

These increases over the last few years have caused some Jewish students to drop from their first choice college or university due to the negative and even hostile environment which made them feel threatened and uncomfortable on campus. As David Horowitz stated, these actions of hatred often occurred “with the support of university funds, despite the fact that such behavior is explicitly forbidden under campus codes of conduct.” Somewhat deeper in his short fact-filled statement he was quoted stating, “These activities against Jewish and pro-Israel students would not be tolerated by university administrators if they were committed against students from any other ethnic group. But because Jews are the target, they have been largely ignored.” Where many have claimed that the reemergence of anti-Semitism in both its traditional form and its closely related new anti-Semitism disguised as anti-Zionism or anti-Israel as denying only the Jewish Peoples not to have the same rights to self-government is definitely another face of the same monster simply hiding behind righteousness when calm discourse breaks down and the full extent of rage becomes revealed and easily identifiable as the pure hatred of the Jewish Peoples. This is an unfortunate hatred for one to face, especially when so young and often unlikely to have sufficient knowledge to defend themselves from the prepared sheet of memorized items with which to launch their diatribe of accusations. Despite reports which make it appear that this is a modern problem which had lain dormant for half a century or longer in much of the world after the extent and the horrors of the Holocaust had been revealed, I had the misfortune being a blonde haired blue eyed Jew which looks gentile to the point that nearly anybody else compared to me would win the look Jewish contest which allowed for many to confide their dislike and even raw hatreds towards Jews. Had anti-Semitism lie dormant for decades, mostly but far from completely as there has been that constant tinge that refused to die which was exemplified in the Chicago suburb of Skokie when the National Socialist Party of America (derived from the American Nazi Party) won its court battle to parade through the heavily Jewish section of town and immediately in front of a Holocaust survivor’s home. Despite winning their court battle, in the end they marched in Chicago instead. Still this was a victory for hate speech, a victory for free speech, and horrifying for one Holocaust survivor. The entire series of events was made into a feature length movie titled “Skokie” and starring Danny Kaye, John Rubinstein, Carl Reiner, Kim Hunter, Eli Wallach and Brian Dennehy.

The rapid increase in anti-Semitic hatreds once again and the fact that it appears to be growing fastest on the college and university campuses is distressing in so many ways. Anti-Semitism has begun to spread onto the campus of Brandeis University and City University of New York (CUNY), which are two schools which have a Jewish history spread back to their founding with Brandeis, which was named for the late Louis D. Brandeis, the first Jewish Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, even having Zionism written into its founding mission statement. It was once held that simply looking at our university campuses, you get a glimpse into the future as the students there are the leaders of tomorrow. If that statement is true, then our future as a tolerant, multicultural and intelligent people is doomed. The political correctness found on many college and university campuses is anything but acceptive and often is exclusively dogmatic and selectively defined as to what is politically correct by binding to far leftist ideals and slogans such as group-think to define their efforts. The acceptable ideas on most campuses appears to be a message in a bottle where holding any other view is defined as an abomination. Whether your ideas will be accepted at your university depends on numerous functions and ideas, all of which are just featured prominently on your application.

On no subjects is this more evident than the Middle East with the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Movement and Muslim Brotherhood sponsored groups. Be it because the Muslim world, and particularly the Arab Muslim world, donates billions of dollars to build entire buildings and buy other necessities for universities in exchange for control over, or even the establishing of, Departments of Middle East Studies and the chair that goes along with that honor; by literally bribing to gain these positions these departments become centers which spread the ideology of Islam while concurrently defaming Israel positing that Israel is a stolen and illegal entity and that the Jews have no actual claim to anything in the Middle East and that the ancient Hebrews became today’s Arab Muslims or all died out and that the Jews are all interlopers who actually trace their lineage back to a King of the Khazars in the area of Turkey today who had his people adopt Judaism in the eighth century, about the same time as Mohammad established Islam, a very convenient coincidence. Genetic testing has proven that both Ashkenazi and Sephardim Jews have Middle East ancestry. This theory also does not explain why the Sephardim Jews who make up approximately half of the Israeli Jewish population are not entitled to their ancient homelands even if the Ashkenazi might have a questionable claim. Almost all the claims against European Jews do nothing to discount the claim of the Jews, many who were forced from their homes and forced to sacrifice almost all their belongings when their Muslim national leaders forced them out by threat of pogrom or even laws passed forcing them out have no claims to the lands of Israel. Still, this is the subject line taught across the United States and Europe in many universities.

Concurrently to these teachings you have the establishing of Muslim and Palestinian groups which have in turn established a series of activities with the singular aim of disestablishing the legality of Israel or at least causing students to question and eventually reject the claims of the Jewish People to their homelands. This is established with a combination of very well practiced and advanced campaigns combined on playing on historically established anti-Semitic tropes, slogans and defamations. They play on themes that the Jews have been chased from every nation as they destroy any nation from within that harbors them. Somehow they are unable to explain why the United States has succeeded despite having the second largest population by size in the world only recently exceeded by the numbers of Jews living in Israel. This last leg of the demonization of the Israel primarily and the Jewish People secondarily completes the efforts to conspire against Israel and the Jews leading to the problems documented by David Horowitz’s “Jew Hatred on Campus” research group and their top ten colleges and universities offenders guilty of allowing harassment against Jewish students. It would be a great hope that this listing might shame some college and university leadership to take steps to remedy this problem but the continuous flow of mostly Saudi Arabian and the other Gulf oil states monies into these universities and colleges that they will remain forever bought as long as oil remains as lucrative as it has proven in our world. The sole path to ending this horrific conspiracy would be for the students themselves to reject this propaganda, but that is something probably beyond hope as they too face the moneyed campaign demonizing Israel and the Jews and for some reason anti-Semitism seems to have its own allure and has throughout the last four-thousand years of human history. It really is a sad but true tale that tells us a lot about the human situation that mankind has never been capable of shaking off this stain on humanity. It is not for lack of knowledge as they know of this evil’s existence, so it must be due to a level of warmth and satisfaction derived by this hatred which assists in fueling its red hot slavery to the concept of the daemon Jew while ignoring the Biblical promises granting the Jewish People the Promised Lands into perpetuity .

There is one subject that every candidate not able to honestly run on a Zionist campaign theme will spend their entire campaign avoiding speaking about is their position on reaching a peace with the Arabs and how granting them statehood over Judea and Samaria without gaining any restrictions on further demands, end of terrorism, end to hostilities and recognition of Israel as the nations state of the Jewish People. They will talk about how Prime Minister Netanyahu has not moved Israel any closer to peace with the Palestinians. They will bemoan the lack of programs addressing poverty. They will demand that Israelis vote their pocketbooks. They will call for free education, free childcare, free transit tokens for the poor, free food programs, and free stuff for everyone. They will denounce the financial inequality in Israeli society and the loss of the middle class. They will denounce the past leadership for every possible single economic inequality without explaining where the funding will come from. Some might even go to the populist favorite of making the wealthy pay their fair share while promising to equalize the distribution of wealth in Israeli society. They will dance around on every issue except the most important issue which should be the first issue on every Israelis mind; how to provide a safe Israel for all of her citizens from the Galilee to Eilat, from the Golan Heights to Sderot, from Tel Aviv to Beit El.

The question we must demand every candidate and political party must be made to address is what position they take on taking a strong stand against terrorism and in annexing in stages Judea and Samaria after every single terrorist act. All the talk about economic redistribution and establishing higher minimum wages is completely meaningless to anyone if they are not first safe and protected in their country. Yes, the economy is important but nothing will permit the economy to grow in leaps and bounds faster than an end to terrorism and that can only be established when there is a definite and strong price to be paid for every single act of terrorism. First Israel needs to annex Area C dunum by dunum and then move on to Area B and, if the lesson has not been learned, Area A. Once all of Judea and Samaria have been returned to the State of Israel in a response to terrorist acts, then it will take the stiff spines of the Israeli government to remind the world, the United Nations, the European Union, the European governments, the United States and the rest of the world of the promise made in 1920 at the San Remo Conference where the world gave the Zionist Congress and the Jewish People their honor bound promise to return their ancient homelands to their possession for their establishing the renewed Jewish State with the provision that all peoples living in those lands were guaranteed religious rights and legal land rights would remain protected. There was no demand that those residing other than the Jewish People were to be guaranteed political rights, the Jews were free to grant political rights as they chose, but only Jews residing within the lands granted to the Zionist Congress were to be guaranteed political rights. The formation and rights for the Jewish State of Israel had absolutely nothing to do with the Holocaust. It had everything to do with the granting of political and indigenous rights when the lands of the defeated Ottoman Empire were cut and delineated into individual nations by the victorious allies. Much of the decisions were decided by Italy, Britain, France, and Japan and recognized by the United States. The United States Congress passed a resolution recognizing the decisions made in the San Remo Conference of 1920 which was arranged in response to the decisions reached during the Versailles Conference, the Paris Peace Conference, and the other sections which made up The League of Nations Treaty Series which established the main concessions demanded from the defeated powers and established the largest establishments which not only assigned the establishing of the new map by the Sykes–Picot Agreement for the lands of much of the Ottoman Empire and also redrew the map of much of eastern Europe dividing up the lands of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire and redrawing the borders of Germany and placed financial demands on Germany and the rulers of the Austria-Hungarian Empire leadership and lastly the San Remo Conference which established the Jewish homelands. The establishment of the Jewish State was relegated to the British under their Mandate and the formation of a Christian state, Lebanon, and an Arab state, Syria, were relegated to France under their Mandate. The Mandate System was further ratified and reassurances granted by the United Nations in its Charter under Article 80.

The British reached an agreement with the Zionist Congress whereby in exchange for the Zionists relegating their claims to the Mandate lands east of the Jordan River stretching to the border of Iraq to be utilized to form an Arab State for the Arab population within the British Mandate which they granted rule over to their Hashemite allies as the sovereigns as compensation for their loss of their rule over Mecca and Medina to the Saudi Royals in exchange the British guaranteed that the lands west of the Jordan River was to remain inviolate to be the lands for the Jewish State. Perhaps the British need be reminded that the promises and honour of the British Crown is vested in the reserving of all of the lands west of the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea for the Jewish State of Israel no matter how much of an inconvenience keeping their word may pose. For the rest of Europe who appear more and more every day to be increasingly uncomfortable with the remnants of Jewish citizens remaining in their lands who also see fit to constantly denounce Israel demanding that Israel surrender every demand before the Arab demands which they knowingly realize will eventually lead to the end of the state of Israel and the eviction of its Jewish population there is a simple question, are they willing to take in these Jews who would no longer have a nation and should their Jews find themselves unwelcomed within Europe, where would these Jews find a new home without Israel? The Arabs already have twenty-two nations whose total land areas so dwarfs the lone Jewish state of Israel that the comparison should border on embarrassing that the world appears unable to permit this slight sliver of land at the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea to remain in Jewish hands. And to the Arab states which have repeatedly demanded that the Jews of Israel return to their lands from whence they originated, are they prepared to permit the half of the Israeli population to return to the Arab lands from which they or their parents or grandparents were forced from exiling them to Israel? With the rising anti-Semitism rising throughout the world it is beyond unseemly that while the Jews are to be made to feel and actually be made unwelcome in their current homelands that the one nation which will take them and give them a welcomed safe refuge and love them unflinchingly is also being put upon challenging its right to retain the small sliver of land the world made a faithful promise to reserve and protect until they could establish themselves within and then spent the majority of the next quarter of a century making their immigrations there, and their escape from the threats of the Holocaust even more impossible during the years of World War II, and then have hounded much of the past forty years pitifully demanding that they grant the Arabs a second state in addition to the state formed in over three-fourths of the original Mandate in exchange for promises of the remainder inviolate is beyond any measure of defined perfidy. But that is something Jews have come to expect as we have seen every form of persecution and survived every past attempt to dissolve our peoplehood and have out-survived every great power which raised its hand against us and we will survive your hands as well. This is what every party must promise to stand firm against and to assure that every inch that has been promised us from the first day that Abraham and Sarah walked over the river and into the lands surrounding Hevron to the day when Moses walked off over the hills and Joshua returned up to the lands where Abraham and Sarah first surveyed to the land which the Jewish People never entirely were driven from, to Jerusalem which has had a Jewish presence if not a Jewish majority since before the modern calendars of every peoples who counted their days from their first as a civilization, to the lands where we had built the Second Temple as Buddha and Confucius laid out their wise thoughts, to Jerusalem the city we have prayed facing for close to three thousand years, to the lands we were promised and to these lands where the Ten Commandments which serve as the basis for Western civilization, these are the lands every Israeli Party must make their pledge to protect before they promise anything else as without the lands the Jews cannot have anything else. The land is the first promise and all else flows from that.
