Israel Further Divided is Israel No More

How many times can Israel be divided down from the original British Mandate until there is no longer any viable Israel? Would taking away seventy-eight percent of the lands make Israel untenable? History would indicate that was not the case as Israel survived two Arab mass attacks to try and eradicate her. The division was made when the Palestinian Arab State of Jordan was granted to be ruled by the Hashemites and Israel was left with the twenty-two percent of the Mandate west of the Jordan River. The first assault came within hours of the State of Israel being declared established where half a dozen Arab States attacked across every border and yet Israel survived. Again in June of 1967 Israel was attacked across her three land borders by Syria, Egypt and Jordan and survived. Then again in 1973 Israel was again attacked by Egypt and Syria but survived due to still holding the Sinai Peninsula otherwise Israel might have been lost. But with Israel having returned all of the Sinai Peninsula to Egypt for the promise of a future of peace, a cold peace, but peace just the same, well, thus far; Israel was shrunk back to controlling merely the twenty-two percent of the original British Mandate west of the Jordan River. Still, this was too much land for Jews to hold according to the rest of the world, at least all of the world which was making any noise. What then followed is frightening but nowhere near as frightening as what the future potentially holds.

Since March 26, 1979, when the Camp David Accords was formally signed and peace broke out between Egypt and Israel, the Sinai Peninsula was returned to Egyptian control with the proviso that it remains limited in military powers being stationed by Egypt with any exceptions as required being established with the full knowledge and permission of Israel. This peace has been a cold peace much of the time but both nations have kept the agreements. There was a short period where the peace appeared to be potentially in danger while the Muslim Brotherhood and President Morsi won an initial election after President Obama assisted in forcing President Mubarak from power. The Egyptian people, or at least a fair percentage, appeared to protest the ill effects of the Muslim Brotherhood rule and the Egyptian military returned to power with President Sisi being elected after the Military removed President Morsi and the Muslim brotherhood from power. President Sisi did at least resign from his position as head of the Egyptian Military before running for President but his election was assured by his leadership in removing the Muslim Brotherhood from power. Israel and Egypt remain at peace and presently there are additional allowances for Egyptian military activity in the Sinai Peninsula to address terrorist activity which has blossomed with Islamic State, Muslim Brotherhood and various other terror and criminal enterprises taking control of much of the Sinai Peninsula.

During President George W. Bush Administration and his plan for Israel-Palestinian Peace named the Roadmap, Israel was pressured in removing every Jewish settlement, industry and other presence from Gaza and a number of other communities in northern regions of Judea and Samaria in order to allow for the Palestinian Authority to be able to establish semiautonomous rule in Judea and Samaria and complete autonomy to establish a working state in the surrendered lands of Gaza to prove that the establishment of a Palestinian State was not only possible but would pose no threat to Israel and could live peacefully side-by-side. The Bush Administration also issued a letter granting fourteen guarantees to Israel as a protection for their taking what could prove to be a huge risk if it went wrong. Since then President Obama basically voided every guarantee granted by that letter claiming there was no promise or guarantee despite a near unanimous approval of these promises by the congress. President Obama’s destruction of those promises was done unilaterally without any council or consent by Congress. Further, within two years the Palestinian Authority lost control of the Gaza to Hamas who has utilized it as a staging area for launching rocket attacks, mortar fire, sniper shootings mostly at Israeli civilian targets and three wars and counting in order to end increasing rocket fire which was ramped up almost in a regularly scheduled timeframe which shortened with each confrontation. Further, the range and accuracy of the rockets have grown significantly placing much, if not all, of Israel within range of rockets fired from the very same locations which had been under the control of the Jewish communities which were removed from Gaza. All told the surrender of Gaza to the Palestinian control turned out to fulfill every single worst possible scenario as predicted by many Zionists and nationalists. Despite the debacle which resulted from the Gaza withdrawal, the world is demanding that Israel now withdraw completely from Judea and Samaria allowing the Palestinian authority another opportunity for displaying their ability to rule and live at peace with Israel. They are demanding this despite, or possibly because of, the fact that Mahmoud Abbas has pledged to use any such withdrawal as an opportunity to destroy the remainder of Israel and murder every Jew residing between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea. The world claims that he does not really mean his threats and Israel should give him the opportunity to prove he does not desire to destroy Israel, kill every Jew he can find and take every inch of land from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea even if he must burn everything to the ground and lay waste to all of Israel. Actually, he claims to desire and do exactly that and has repeated that threat consistently. But the world is sure that it would be worth it for Israel to test his resolve on this as nobody other than Israelis are threatened and they believe that by sacrificing Israel the terrorism which has spread to their lands will cease because the Arab and Muslim world do not really mean it when they claim that Allah promised them they were to conquer the entire planet and rule it as the lords over all humanity and thus make Islam the only religion and political power on the Earth. What could possibly go wrong, after all Gaza was the exception and the threat does not also transfer to Judea and Samaria, let alone the entire globe.

The problem comes when one realizes the tactical position of superiority giving over all of Judea and Samaria gives the Palestinian Arabs as they take the high grounds and have a direct line of sight over Tel Aviv, Haifa and all of central Israel and the major structures, industry, residential areas, the sole international airport and major docks in all of Israel. There is an article which has a series of pictures taken from what would become Palestine overlooking Israel with detailed description of some of the major targets which would become vulnerable which can be read here which we recommend highly. Below we will post two of those pictures which we feel are pretty much self-descriptive though the sight has information on both and far, far more.

Israel could always make things more difficult for the Arabs by constructing a little wall about two-thousand feet in height and thick enough to withstand a few direct strikes by rocket fire or artillery and then station around five hundred or a thousand Iron Dome Batteries with hundreds and hundreds of interceptor missiles costing approximately $50,000.00 firing one at probably three-fourths of the $50.00 rockets fired over the wall and Israel could afford to do this for almost three weeks before going so far into debt that the nation would financially fail. But of course Judea and Samaria could never turn into Gaza II and Hamas would never be capable of overthrowing the Palestinian Authority a second time and the Islamic State would also have no interest in staging in Judea and Samaria against both Israel and Jordan at some point. And the world would be so appreciative of Israel taking such a risk for peace that they would have Israel’s back should everything go so terribly wrong just as they have with Gaza. Oh, wait; they have not had Israel’s back unless stabbing Israel in the back counts as having our back. Remember that the United Nations had demanded Israel cease attacking Gaza immediately after the IDF fired a single round in counterstrike for a rocket fired using back-tracing technologies which allow a strike to hit nearly exactly where a rocket originated within less than a minute and often mere seconds after the rocket was tracked by an Iron Dome or radar array. Then, when after the numbers of rockets approached almost one thousand per day and Israel sent troops into Gaza to end the barrages the United Nations, European Union, numerous governments and any number of NGOs began accusing Israel of using disproportional force because insufficient numbers of Israelis were being killed despite the overwhelming number of those killed in Gaza proved to be terrorists and others were largely human shields used by Hamas and Islamic Jihad to protect their rocket firing positions and in order to wage political war against Israel. Do not even try and tell me that this time things will be different, they will not and everybody knows they will not except this time there will be massive Israelis killed as well which at least will remove the disproportional force dialogue, but that claim will continue as the Palestinian Authority releases inflated numbers of dead and the world takes their numbers at face value while questioning any numbers released by Israel. Oh, and when the investigation by the United Nations verifies exactly what Israel reported and proved that the Palestinian Authority was making up numbers when claiming there was a massacre, say Jenin for example, the world will continue to claim there was a massacre despite all evidence to the contrary, like Jenin for example. Please spare us the inanities as the stories and empty promises will not sway the majority of Israelis, we have about had it with the double standards and the false pretenses and are fed up and not taking it any longer.

We do not need to explain the reasons why the Arabs have no valid claim and never used Jerusalem as a capital city for any nation and how there was never a nation called Palestine and how it simply denoted a region which has also been referred to as southern Syria but that does not make it Syria any more than it is Palestine. The treaties which make all the lands from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea belonging to Israel, are reserved exclusively for the Jewish State and which cannot be used for any other purpose without the consent of Israel are well known which is why nobody had taken Israel before the International Criminal Court. The entire world of politicians and professors and experts and whoever else is knowledgeable knows, as soon as the case is heard in The Hague the game is over and it will be verified that Israel controls the lands between the Jordan and the Mediterranean, all of it, period. The sole exception is Gaza which Israel ceded to the Palestinian authority and should Israel take it back from Hamas, then there would be an argument which could be heard that it should be returned to the Palestinian Authority. That would lead to another coup as even the Arabs do not wish to live under the Palestinian Authority as their mismanagement and stealing of funds is legendary even to their own people. That would start the question of how many times would the Palestinian authority have to lose Gaza before Israel could simply keep it and allow the Arabs residing in the Gaza to have semiautonomous lives basically ruling themselves while still under the security provided by the IDF to prevent terrorism and any forced takeover by outside forces such as the Muslim Brotherhood or Islamic State or other such forces.

But the world will not sit still and allow Israel to live in peace because the world cannot accept that the Jews are ruling themselves. The world demands that the Jews live under the thumb of others who are their betters and know to keep an eye on the Jew and keep them from ruling the world which they would do if permitted. If one does not believe the Jews run the world then why is the entire world despite all its other problems always holding hearings and conferences to decide what to do next with the Jews and Israel? Obviously since the world concentrates so much energy and time worrying about what the Jews and Israel are up to then there must be something nefarious going on with the Jews and Israel. So much effort is put into dividing Israel into smaller and smaller chunks until it can be erased completely must have some actual reason other than people hate the Jews, they must deserve to be cheated out of the lands so foolishly granted them after World War I and the conferences which followed. Why the Jew must be made subservient just as they have been for the past two and a half thousand years as see how much trouble they have caused even when under the thumb of others, imagine the problems they have caused with their own nation. There have been an inordinate number of resolutions, hearings, conferences, approaches and what not simply to wrest all of the land of Israel from Jewish control so there must be a good reason. Hatred and anti-Semitism cannot be the explanation; it has to be the Jews who are the problem, not the rest of the world. It is entirely impossible for the entire world to be wrong and Israel to be right, isn’t it? It has to be the Jews as the world would not spend so much time, effort, treasure and all else that’s holy just to destroy little old Israel if the Jews were not the problem. This appears to have been the reasoning of the Europeans, the Americans, the United Nations, the Arab World, the Russians, Chinese, and whoever else one cares to name because otherwise everybody has been wasting so much time all about nothing other than hate. Could it all be that simple, could it all be about hatred of the Jews, a three-thousand-plus year problem that the world just cannot seem to get past?

That would be insane as the entire world knows that if the Jews were to be left alone and in peace in the lands between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea, that entire 26,184 sq. km., the entire 0.005% of the Earth’s surface, then left to their own devices the Jews of Israel, a whole 0.1% of the World’s population, allowed freedom to invent, research, work and live and share their discoveries and inventions with the world, these Jews who are a remnant of the world population residing on a mere scrap of lands at the east end of the Mediterranean Sea would somehow manage to ruin the lives of everyone else and own everything within a mere decade, maybe two decades? Is this the fear the world has because we often hear of this “Greater Israel” which would come about should Israel not be hampered and driven into extinction by those who have a reliable and valid fear, right? Is it really too much to ask that the world leave us alone and allow us to run our lives, study our Torah and make wondrous discoveries which we will share, invent new applications, programs, devices and miracle cures for diseases and maybe even cancer and share them and do all sorts of what might be seen as miracles and share them all and do it all and remain on our little patch of soil and nothing more. We do not wish to conquer anything and would not have agreed to every proposition made; even when the United Nations proposed on November 29, 1947, against Article 80 of the United Nation’s own Charter, to divide the remaining Mandate Lands between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea in half and make the Jewish half be made up of over one third Negev Desert; the Zionist Congress speaking for the future Israel and the Jewish nation agreed and the Arab League refused demanding all the land or threatening war, a threat they carried out the very morning of May 15, 1948, the morning of Israel’s founding as a new state, as over a half dozen nation’s armies with militias attacked the nascent Jewish State and somehow a miracle, Israel survived.

About that war where Israel survived but lost Judea and Samaria, renamed West Bank by Jordan, and lost Gaza to Egypt and still Israel celebrated as we Jews had a homeland in the vicinity of our ancient homelands. Jordan occupied Judea and Samaria illegally and even the Arab States refused to recognize their annexation, an annexation they cancelled in order to make additional Arab refugees after the Six Day War, a war Israel begged Jordan to refrain from joining but Jordan saw those pleadings as weakness and found out different. That was the Six Say War where Israel liberated Gaza as well as Judea and Samaria while also conquering all of the Sinai Peninsula and the Golan Heights, another area given away by the French and British in order to deny it to the Israelis and give Syria the high ground overlooking the Galilee. Here is the really interesting item about the lands lost by Israel in 1948-9, the Gaza, Judea and Samaria. These are the very lands that today the world is demanding that Israel surrender to make another Arab State called Palestine. These are part of what the world claims was the ancient land of Palestine though there is no record of any nation ever in all of history called Palestine. There is a region known as Syria Palaestina under the Romans but that was a region ruled from Rome, like Prince Georges County in Maryland, ruled from Washington D.C. but never would one call it a nation. Still, for the eighteen plus years that Jordan and Egypt controlled these regions there was not a single call to form a state called Palestine. There was the formation of a terror group called the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) in 1964, a full three years before the six Day War and the liberation of Gaza, Judea and Samaria by Israel from Egyptian and Jordanian control respectively and the start of the Arab League deceit of stealing land called Palestine. The PLO did claim they were going to liberate Palestine but they were not interested in Gaza, Judea or Samaria as these lands were already in Arab hands. The Palestine they declared they would liberate was Israel, all of Israel, and that is exactly the area they desire to liberate today, all of Israel and not just Gaza, Judea and Samaria. What is so sad is that almost the entire world appears to desire to assist them in exactly that goal and assist them in their conquest of all of Israel. That is the truth and that is why there are seventy nations conspiring in Paris to imagine a new and inventive way of destroying Israel and gifting it to the Arabs who will ignore the land within a few years and move on as they never did populate the lands between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea until the Jews returned and an economy was born. Read Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) and Herman Melville and others descriptions of these lands when they visited the Holy Lands before 1900 and get a taste for the reality and not the fiction being sold as real history by the fabricators and their revisionist history which suits their political ends over the truth. Once you know the reality, please pass it along with some advice that the Jews be permitted their little scrap of land and we will promise to repay in kindness and miracles almost beyond belief.

There is one very basic and simple question which nobody dares to ask and if asked the answer is drowned out by the bellicose cries of Israeli Apartheid is the reason and the debate is settled. How dare you challenge the accepted narrative! Well, when the quiet truth goes orphaned from the conversation, how in all that is holy and logical falls to the side and gets discarded as useless to the discussion. The problem is that the discarded realities are the sole reason that there is an Arab-Israeli conflict today and the truth is so simple and easily validated that it surprises almost every curious individual who inspects the historical records. So, what exactly occurred that spawned the modern discontent which threatens peace and tranquility and has been the source of casualties of a terror war for almost a century. The history goes back to the 1917 Balfour Declaration which declared the existing Jewish rights and claims to the lands on both sides of the Jordan River and on to the Mediterranean Sea just as described in the Old Testament and also recorded by the Persian Empire, the Greek Empire and the Roman Empire as well as written of by the Crusaders, Mark Twain wrote of the area in his treasured work describing life in the Holy Lands and other historic writings and records from the Ottoman Empire and the British Mandate records. The Jews had always resided in this area even if only a remnant of the entirety of the Jewish peoples. They had almost exclusively made up the majority of the population of Jerusalem and a large proportion of the population of Hevron. The return of the Jews to their ancient and historic homelands began about the midpoint of the 1800’s and continued throughout the decades that followed independent of any outside forces. During World War I there was a Palestinian Brigade which was completely made up of Jews from the Holy Lands. These Jews and their bravery were much of the impetus for the Balfour Declaration. Contrary to popular myths, Lord Balfour was not Jewish. The Balfour Declaration was adopted by the winning nations of World War I at a conference named after the city where it was held, the San Remo Conference of 1922. Immediately after the Balfour Declaration and kicking into a higher gear after the San Remo Conference, Arab unrest threatened even the British troops charged with facilitating the conclusions of these two treaties. In an attempt to placate the Arab demands for their own state on the same lands as those reserved by the aforementioned treaties the British made a deal with the Jewish Zionists. They guaranteed that all of the lands of the British Mandate west of the Jordan River would be preserved into perpetuity for the Jewish State guaranteed by the British Crown in exchange for permitting a state for the Arab residents of the British Mandate, also referred to as the Palestine Mandate, for the Arabs in over seventy-five percent of the lands which covered all the lands east of the Jordan River to the Iraqi border. Thus was Jordan born initially called Transjordan. The Jewish State was not initially declared as it was presumed that over time Jews would eventually become a majority. Reacting to Arab pressures the British placed one difficulty after a blocking of Jewish immigration on and on assuring all the time that an Arab majority remained preventing the declaration of the Jewish State. Eventually came World War II and once again there was a Palestinian brigade which was constituted of Jews from the Holy Lands. Once again the British promised to form the Jewish State immediately after the war. Again they broke their promises to the Jews and did everything in their powers to prevent the Jews from Europe, the refugees of the concentration camps, from reaching Israel instead herding them into what could be called concentration camps without the crematorium. Eventually, even the British were unable of preventing the Jews from making their way to Israel, to what they believed to be the only salvation which would provide for Jewish freedom and a future.

At long last the United Nations in its formation took on the promise for founding a Jewish State when they internalized the edicts from the San Remo Conference and the Mandate System when under Article 80 of the United Nations Charter took those specifics under the auspices of the United Nations to finalize the ideals and ideas of these historic treaties. This is where the real sources for the problems today became inevitable despite any and all efforts to mediate an equitable resolution, the one thing the Arab world could not accept. The United Nations General Assembly on November 29, 1947 made a nonbinding resolution proposing an even division between Arab and Jewish States within the lands remaining from the British Mandate west of the Jordan River. The Arab League simply need only accept the offer and the Arabs within these lands would have gained their nation on the vast majority of the choicest lands west of the Jordan River. The Jewish relegated lands would consist half being the Negev Desert, a coastal strip from Tel Aviv to Haifa and a small section in the northern ridges of Judea and Samaria leaving the entire farmlands of the Galilee as part of the Arab declared state. The Arab League met and issued their response to this proposition. They refused to accept the formation of a Jewish State no matter how segmented, no matter how much was wastelands and desert, no matter any area as they refused to recognize any size of Jewish State. The Arab League refused to accept half of the lands simply because they refused to accept a Jewish States of any dimensions or size. The Zionist Jews agreed anxiously and willing to accept anything as their own lands from where they could begin to build and make a future for themselves and to form a state in which all Jews could eventually come to and make their homes as a people. From the declaration from the General Assembly of the United Nations the Arabs living in the lands west of the Jordan River began a series of pogroms attempting to destroy any chance for the formation of a Jewish State. This was the beginning of the Arab war efforts to destroy the Jewish State both before it was founded and ever since. Despite the Arab riots of Hevron where Jewish businesses and homes were set to the torch and dozens of Jews were murdered and scores injured. In response to the violence the British took harsh actions and relocated the Jews to Jerusalem gifting Hevron to the Arab rioters. This led inexorably to the Arab riotous pogroms in Jerusalem where the British again stood aside initially only intervening when the Arab rioters threatened the British troops themselves.

Finally came May 15, 1948 and Israel declared her independence and was invaded by the armies of more than a half dozen Arab nations and numerous independent militias including the one fanatical group led by the Mufti of Jerusalem who had recently returned after spending almost the entirety of World War II as a guest of the Nazis and supervising the Muslim troops who were left to cleanse the Balkan States and did so with efficiency and a great zeal pitted in hatred leading to brutality that even shocked the Nazi troops in the area to the point that they attempted to distance themselves from those troops under the Mufti’s command. By the eventual end of the conflict which continued off and on for almost two years only coming to an end in 1949, this led to Israel holding the borders referred to as the Green Line, the 1967 Lines. These were actually formed as the 1949 Armistice Lines which the Arab League demanded they be denoted as simply Armistice Lines and never to be used as a border as to allow them to be a border would mean they had recognized the existence of the Jewish State of Israel. From 1949 through to June of 1967 Jordan had control of Judea and Samaria, renamed the West Bank, and Egypt held the Gaza Strip. During that entirety of near eighteen years there was absolutely no attempt made to form an Arab state by any name as Muslims already held the lands so all was as they perceive it should be. The PLO was founded with the assistance of the Soviet Union and the KGB in 1964 with the called for in its charter the liberation of Palestine by which they meant all of Israel as there was no occupied lands before 1967 unless Israel is the lands you consider occupied. That is the dirty little secret, Israel is the occupied land at any size, be it including Judea and Samaria, the West Bank, or be it before June 1967 and Israel inside the Green Line without Judea or Samaria, the West Bank, and without Gaza.

Across Europe countries are recognizing an Arab state without any declared border being declared by Mahmoud Abbas or any other Arab leader. The one constant that is known is that should Abbas and the Arabs be granted a state and its borders are restricted to the areas of Gaza, Judea and Samaria outside of the 1967 Lines that they refuse to consider such recognition as being a reason to end the conflict with Israel. Mahmoud Abbas has made a point as part of his refusals of offers which included as much as ninety-five percent of Judea and Samaria and all of Gaza with land swaps to make up all differences, he has refused these offers because they include the end of hostilities. The problem with the making of an Arab state west of the Jordan River by any name is meaningless as far as ending the conflict as long as it allows for the remaining existence of a Jewish State. As long as Israel continues to exist the Arabs will continue to make claims that the Jews are occupying their land. The problem has never been the lack of an Arab homeland; it has been the existence of the Jewish lands. All one need do to realize this truth is to peruse MEMRI, the Middle East Media Research Institute, translations of speeches made by Abbas and his fellow Arab leaders as well as the speeches of leading Arabs from throughout the Arab world and one will realize the reality that it is the existence of Israel that infuriates the Arabs and the destruction of Israel is their sole raison d’être. Perhaps the European governments might ask Abbas and the rest of the Arab leadership exactly what borders they are willing to accept to end the violence and terror war before they decide to grant them a state which is undefined and left to their wildest hopes to define after the fact. The response would likely be informative and potentially surprising. But the Europeans are simply attempting to feed the alligator hoping they will be eaten last and they would gladly sacrifice Israel for fifteen minutes reprieve from their eventual self-imposed coming fate. Israel does not plan on accepting the role of sacrificial lamb for the continued existence of Europe for an extra few months or so. Perhaps Europe and the whole world would be better served to repair their own houses rather than attempt to sacrifice Israeli homes. Israeli homes are not up for being sacrificed no matter what the eventual desires of the rest of the world may decide. Israel was before, Israel is now, and Israel will remain after.

European nations are showing eager excitement over who will be the next nation to signal their approval for the formation of a Palestinian state despite any concerns for the ramifications or difficulties such may represent. This has been spurred by the Swedish government having formally recognized the Palestinian state. They are the third Western European nation to do so after Malta and Cyprus who had followed the lead of South American nations Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, Bolivia, Uruguay, Chile and Peru. This has had the impetus to send ripples through the remainder of the European countries and with the obvious pressures and support for a Palestinian state being so ham-handedly pushed by recently appointed European Union Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini during her introductory weeks in her new posting. Who would have ever thought that Lady Catherine Ashton might be missed? The coming European rush to excitedly etch out their ‘principled stand’ for the recognition of a Palestinian state will rush headlong ignoring any potential ramifications or harms their actions may produce. These recognitions in many nations will simply be non-binding votes affirming the Parliamentary support for the formation of a Palestinian state as the necessary votes or support of the Prime Minister stand in the way of an actual binding recognition, though this is not universally true as proven in Sweden. Still, these votes will have an immediate effect across Europe and will only serve to quicken the anti-Semitic attacks which have been on the increase already on the continent. What has also been an interesting item to note is that some of these recognitions from South America are lacking in stating recognized borders or even naming a capital city for the Palestinian state they claim they recognize. This does leave such recognitions to be quite lacking in any means for enforcement, not that any of the European nations would be eager to send troops to enforce their recognitions either even if they did actually state what they desired for recognized borders and such. It will be an embarrassment when the inevitable cries come from Mahmoud Abbas and he appraises his ambassadors across the European continent to demand the nations who have so boldly recognized the Palestinian state provide troops to enforce the borders and sovereignty of that very same entity. What a pickle that will create as many European nations would be hard pressed to enforce their own borders, let alone anyone else’s borders.

Still, there will be other embarrassments which will result from this headlong rush to grant some form of recognition for any potential future Palestinian state other than soured relations with the already existent state of Israel. There will be a quickening of the lashing out against the European Jewish population which was already picking up momentum with, oddly enough, Sweden being amongst the most dangerous of places to be a Jew. French Jewish organizations are frantically warning the French government of this potential ramification should they follow through even with a symbolic recognition. There was an assault on a Jewish man in Antwerp, Belgium where, according to the European Jewish Congress, the attacker “ran towards two Hassidim who were on their way to the synagogue, stabbed one of them in the throat and got away.” This was simply the latest of the reported assaults upon European Jews who have been victims of being assaulted for no other reason other than their being Jewish. These assaults are only the tip of an iceberg which includes taunts, firebombing of Synagogues and Jewish schools, daycares, senior centers and other institutions across Europe. Similar anti-Semitic attacks as have occurred in Europe have also been reported, but to a lesser extent, in the United States and Canada. In Germany, the neo-Nazi ‘Die Rechte’ Party demanded Mayor Ullrich Sierau of the city of Dortmund provide them a list of the city’s Jews and the Jews living in its surroundings, along with their addresses, a request which was fortunately refused. There will be those within the European populations who will see these ratifications of Palestinian statehood as an assault on Israel and even interpret them as signaling the end of Israel and ratification for the end of Judaism and take actions onto themselves towards that end. These political acts cannot have a positive influence on the Jewish communities who already are facing increasing attacks and antagonisms as the evils of anti-Semitism have not only returned to Europe, but appear to be gaining general acceptance amongst certain entities and social groups which had previously remained under the radar and refrained from acting out of fear or simply the social stigma against open hatred or acts against Jews. These official governmental statements, even if only symbolic, will appear to be an approval for such groups to become more active and potentially emerge from their hidden backroom enclaves into the open public and even seek political representation no longer fearing any social stigma for their once forbidden hatreds.

There will be those who will want to claim that such fears are simply the attempt to influence against recognition of the Palestinian right to have their own state. The weird thing is that Israel has not been the primary obstacle to a Palestinian state, not originally and not since the 1967 war when Israel gained control of previously held Arab lands. Here is the history once again, this time in a bare bones look. In November of 1947 the United Nations General Assembly passed a non-binding referendum suggesting a partitioning of the remainder of the British Mandate into an Arab and a Jewish state. The Arab League refused this partition and went to war to eradicate Israel and failed. In 1964 Yasser Arafat and Mahmoud Abbas along with the assistance of the KGB formed the PLO which declared their intent to liberate Palestine which they defined as Israel as there were no ‘occupied lands’ other than the original state of Israel. In June 1967 Egyptian President Nasser along with Syria threatened Israel’s destruction after which came the Six Day War which Jordan then joined the attack on Israel in the second day and by its conclusion Israel gained control of the Sinai, Golan Heights, Gaza and the West Bank. Israel made peace with Egypt which surrendered Gaza to Israel. Israel made peace with Jordan who surrendered the West Bank to Israel who returned their ancient and historic names of Judea and Samaria. Subsequently, Yasser Arafat complained that Jordan had actually bequeathed the West Bank to the Palestinians, a claim the King of Jordan granted as he desired no confrontation with Palestinians as his nation has a majority Palestinian population. The United States pressured Israel into permitting the return of Arafat and his henchmen with the signing of the Oslo Accords. The Palestinians have never made any changes to their charters as required in the ratification of the Oslo Accords which technically means they Oslo Accords have actually been in a state of nullification and never actually enforceable. Should Israel press the matter the Oslo Accords would fold but at this date such would create a firestorm similar to what is building as a direct result of the charge from across Europe to reward Palestinian violence with a state. The main obstacle to the Palestinian having their own state has been the Palestinian leadership who demand that they will only accept a state if it includes all of Israel and unless their state includes the destruction of Israel they prefer to scream and commit violent acts in a terror war they believe will either drive the Jews from all the lands or the world will force the Jews to give them all the lands from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea. Listen to the chants at the next rally for the Palestinians when it comes to your town or nearby college campus and you will hear this chant, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.” What did you honestly think that meant?

Here is a dirty little secret, the entire world could ratify and recognize a Palestinian state with the 1949 Armistice Line* with East Jerusalem as its capital and that would not allow for the Palestinian state to be formed. Even should Israel finally give-in and agree and the Palestinians would make some claim which would prevent the formation of their state and, of course, blame Israel for the difficulty. They would lay claim to an additional piece of land or object to the stipulation that anybody be permitted to visit the holy sites within their lands or some other demand as it will always be something. The Palestinians have received offers to found their state in ninety-five percent of Judea and Samaria (West Bank), all of Gaza and with most of East Jerusalem as their capital city which was refused by Yasser Arafat resulting from the efforts of the Clinton Administration as part of the Camp David Summit and then in a desperate last minute effort by President Clinton himself in what was referred to as the Taba Summit. The European leaders and politicians should take a long hard look at the herculean efforts put forth by President Clinton who put more effort and placed his name directly upon the efforts going beyond any outside politician or head of state towards finding a solution only to be initially accepted by both sides only to have Yasser Arafat find some minutia he claimed to desire clarification and then to blow-up the entire effort in a pretend explosive upheaval over the explanation he received. Arafat knew exactly what he had agreed to when it was presented to him and to what I suspect is to be President Clinton’s credit, I believe he pretended the offer claiming he had not been able to force the Israelis to agree and was seeking to gain Arafat’s agreement of intention and full acceptance in order to further pressure the Israelis knowing full well that had Arafat known the Israelis had already agreed to the offer, that Arafat would have refused to accept the offer. Arafat agreed to the offer as he was convinced that the Israelis would never have accepted to grant him virtually any and everything he had ever demanded and assuredly they would refuse this offer, they had already agreed and had told President Clinton they would accept this deal if Arafat would. That placed Arafat in a tight spot as any Palestinian leader who ever accepted anything short of the destruction of Israel would be set upon and slaughtered by the very people they have taught and instilled a ravenous all-consuming hatred of Israel who would see such a deal as a betrayal of the highest order. That was the reason behind Arafat finding something which he demanded a full explanation and clarification despite having fully known the minutest of details as to what he had accepted, he was not a careless person who was oft to act without fully planning every little detail beforehand, and knew that accepting peace with Israel would have been the end of his life and he would have been murdered and disgraced forever held in highest contempt by the Palestinian people and much of the Arab world.

This is also what Abbas faces and why he will never accept any peace with Israel even if it has the appearances of having been force fed the Israelis against their will. In all honesty, if the Europeans could through their actions establish a final peace whereby the Palestinians accepted their statehood and forgot their hunger for the destruction of the Jewish state and the bloodletting they expect to fulfill upon their eventual victory over Israel and their conquest of the Jewish state, then the Israelis would likely thank the Europeans for managing the impossible. Thus far, every offer the Israelis have made to the Palestinians has had three points which they have completely rejected out of hand. These are the recognition of Israel as the state for the Jewish people, allowing freedom for all persons to visit the holy sites in Jerusalem (never mind the rest of Judea and Samaria which hold many of the holiest of sites for Judaism such as the Machpela, burial cave holding the burial of the Jewish patriarchs and matriarchs outside Hevron, Joseph’s Tomb, Rachel’s Tomb and hundreds of other sites) including the Temple Mount, and to end all hostilities and consider the peace as a final peace between our peoples. Mahmoud Abbas has sworn that he will never allow for any end to the terror war against Israel until all of Palestine from the river to the sea has been liberated. The Palestinians do not desire a state living next to the Israelis in peace and security, they demand their state instead of Israel and demand that their state replace Israel and that the Jews be destroyed or delivered back into exile, except for Hamas whose charter states their desire not only to destroy Israel and murder the Jews within but to then continue and murder the Jews throughout the world and finally to spread their version of Islam across the entire world under their rule. There really is no difference between the goals set by Hamas and those claimed by ISIS despite the desire of so many in the Western world to try and differentiate between the terror war against Israel and the terror war they face. So, go ahead Europe and try to placate the growing monster which you have nurtured within your borders, but be warned, they are not able to be placated and will not rest until they are dancing on the grave of Europe as you know it. Once upon a time Europe knew who they were and what the world required for them to remain who they were, no longer apparently as they have become a shell of their former selves. In the various states of society, armies are recruited from very different motives. If I may, a question posed and an answer offered. What will it take to propel the civilized to stand and protect that which civility has fashioned, built and established, from a code of conduct to buildings scraping the skies and roads beyond the horizons leading to wonders on every shore? For the answer, a quote from Edward Gibbon’s The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, Volume II, Chapter XVII. “Barbarians are urged by the love of war; the citizens of a free republic may be prompted by a principle of duty; the subjects, or at least the nobles, of a monarchy, are animated by a sentiment of honor; but the timid and luxurious inhabitants of a declining empire must be allured into the service by the hopes of profit, or compelled by the dread of punishment.”

Beyond the Cusp

* There is no such monstrosity as the 1967 border and only the armistice lines which when agreed upon after the failed war to annihilate the nascent Jewish state the morning after her founding was delineated to be the demarcation of the front lines at the noon hour of the last day set for the war by the United Nations. The Arab League and Arab nations in the armistice made one particularly unusual demand that the armistice lines would never be used to form a border for the Jewish state, ever. This was their way of being able to continue to claim there was no actual state of Israel because it did not have one of the necessary requirements for an actual state, a defined border. This is what is behind their insistence to this day that Israel does not exist, that and wishful thinking. (see Montevideo Convention on the Rights and Duties of States)
